I've used to get to the web using my laptop as an Ad Hoc access point since my partner doesn't allow me to have a dedicated access point, but, since the day I updated to froyobread V18 coming from V17 it stopped connecting to my laptop using Ad Hoc (which is the only way to share an internet connection wirelessly) and instead it stucks at "obtaining IP address"..!
I've tried to go back to V17 and that didn't fix anything, and now I'm running GingerDX V13 and the problem still exist..I've also tried to format my SD card which also didn't help, so I'm now almost out of "web coverage" since there is no real 3G support in my country..
Also tried to do a full wipe and to "forget" all remembered networks.. and it didn't help.
Any ideas regarding the problem would be greatly appreciated..
May firewall of your PC cos this problem, close it and try again.
anoher possibility, you can't use WPA/WPA2 PSK type password, WEP or OPEN is ok. sorry for poor English.
Have you restarted ur phone after removing stored wlan information?
I did but still not wotking.

Thanks a lot qjw451.. however my firewall is always turned off and i used to connenct using open network all the time..I geuss that something went wrong with my phone but I don't know what it is..
@l1nkiboy
So you do have the same problem?..
Actually I've tried it, didn't work..
Any other ideas?
As you can see it is really a big problem not bieng able to connect your Android phone to the internet.
try connectify.
wc_how
Thanks a LOT!
I wonder how I forgot about connetify, I used to use it before upgrading to Froyobread (since the stock ROM doesn't support Ad Hok), then I moved to Ad Hok connection since connectify is buggy a little bit. However it is WAY better than nothing.
Thanks again wc_how.
I never thought to tell you anything because i have no idea with the ad hoc.
But when i saw you asking for any other ideas, suddenly connectify came to me.
You are lucky lol.

I use CM_InternetSharing app on my WM mobile phone to create a hot spot. The software works great and all my Windows pc's & my brothers iPad find my cell phone and gain a internet connect but the Elocity A7 does not connect. The Elocity A7 does connect to my home network but it does not find the mobile hot spot.
Note: WiFi Analyzer finds my WM phone but I can't connect - So I guess it has to do something with the WEP encryption between WM & Andriod in obtaining a IP.
My elocity is on build 0127.
Any ideas?
I have to install the adhoc-fix.zip by dexter on to see my hotspot I have a hotspot on my virgin mobile phone . do a search here on the forum for adhoc-fix.zip and it will give you the link. You rename it to update.zip and install like the mods on the a7 but you do not have to clear stuff.
ninetoes49
I found the adhoc-fix.zip. Did you apply this using recovery? Ie. rename to update.zip.
I also seen that someone mention to execute a chmod on a file. Do you know how to get keyboard in command prompt mode?

yes just apply using recovery. I dont know about the other.
Well I applied the adhoc-fix.zip. It got me closer. I can see my phone broadcasting SID XDA-Wifi-Sharing but it won't obtain a IP address. -- Thanks. I'll keep looking

I run the barnicle legacy on my phone to make my hot spot. I have a virgin mobile samsung intercept.
I believe barnicle is for Andriod -- so you are communicating Andriod to Android. My phone is Windows Mobile running XDA CM Internet Sharing. My A7 will not connect to my phone while other PCs (windows) in my home can connect to my phone.
Im in the same boat and I cant get the darn thing to connect when to the XDA-wifi-sharing (adhoc) network on my wm touch pro 2. I wish someone could solve this. I used to be able to dual boot my phone into android 2.2 (rooted) system and set up the hot spot on that and it would connect but that doesnt even work now for A7. I wish someone who really knows this stuff would give it some attention. Ive looked everywhere I find a search query. This is especially annoying since I cant switch to a different phone for at least another six months and I use the phone to get remote access to the internet for all my hardware.
I've got a work around if you are up to it. I starting thinking about a previous user using barnicle. So I ported Andriod to my WM6.5 TP2 CMDA http://sites.google.com/site/androidport/downloads. I launched Andriod from my WM and went to Android Market place and downloaded barnicle. Lauched barnicle and connected my A7. It works. I just have to remember to boot into Andriod when I want to tether.

Is there another place to get the adhoc-fix.zip? I have tried pulling it down but without any luck.
Glad to see you keeping this alive. I did the same thing except the android rom i installed on tp2 had a wifi hotspot feature built into the wireless settings. Its a pain going back and forth though and i find wm is way more stable. I saw someone mention wifi encryption ane cmod on a file. I dont know much about these and how to fiddle with it but im gonna keep searchin.

Ninetoes49 was nice enough to povide a link to the adhoc-fix.zip file at the following site:

After installing,, my A7 saw the barnicle SSID. I haven't used WPA yet but at least the wifi link is working.
I have windows mobile phone and barnicle is for android. From reading alot, i guess froyo (android 2.2) has problems with WEP connections. The tethering program i use on windows mobile, xda wifi-sharing, uses wep encryption only. Im wondering if something can be changed within the code to make it open like it is in android tethering program which works fine. I would keep using android on windows mobile phone except has no bluetooth functionality and its freezes up a lot. By the way, ive noticed problems with the a7 dropped from home wep networks ive been on too.

I wish I could help more but I am not familiar with Windows Mobile products.
I have been wondering if I should even fool with encryption on my mobile setup. I figure no one can jump on if its not running. I only use it occassionaly. Is it possible that enough people in a given area could "clog" the connection if I don't limit access with encryption?
wep
I'm assuming you have a key assigned in the WEP setup. Basically WEP is not secure since there are tools readily available to crack the key you use in less than 10min. If you don't broadcast the ssid that would make it more difficult since most people would not see the network readily. You would have to try that to see if you can access with an ssid that is not being broadcast. Some systems have a problem connecting to wireless networks that aren't broadcasting the ssid.
I am connecting to my home net using WPA/WPA2 with no problem. I have not connected to a tethering capability.

I have a TP2 (Sprint) and had the same issues as you do. I was using the XDA wifi sharing app but have found an older version of wmwifirouter that works and doesn't require a wep.
There is one caveat though. Using the app has broke my internet sharing one time causing me to have to clear storage. So, if you check the net for wmwifirouter 0.91 and use that, you should be able to connect after the adhoc fix is flashed on your a7.

Thanks Marbieskarb -- for the older version tip of wimwifirouter 0.91 http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=152502&d=1233460803 It worked for me too but after I applied the adhoc fix discuss earlier in this thread. So, now I do not have to dual boot my TP2 to Andriod just to use a tethering app. Great. I'm running wimwifirouter on TP 2 WM6.5.

What sort of more info do you need......... please elaborate
stuff like info about the wifi network, if you've checked several networks, signal strength, which browser (stock or other browser), have you tried other internet based apps etc...
In the OP you are pretty much saying "hey, i connect to a network and cant open a website, help!" How can anybody deduce the exact problem from that?

this is the real problem
Does this happen on only one wifi network or on more networks? If its only on one it might be a network specific issue, like having to set DNS, or something else. If you have only experienced it on one (even if you only tested on one) what can you tell me about the network; is it your home network, school network, work network or whatever, what kind of protection it has.
Tell me us anything you can about this situation, since we cant conclude what the situation is, is it a problem with the phone, with the wifi network, aliens disrupting your phone to get some laughs out of it. It could be anything!

Before resetting try to reboot the phone.
done, still the same problem
Which rom do you have ? have u flashed any ??
do you have a data connection turned on?
Hi.
I have wi-fi problem too. Just appeared 2 days ago. Wi-fi was working normally at my friends house and after i've selected "forget" on his wi-fi and now i cant connect wi-fi at home. It says "unable to scan networks". In phone status there is Wi-Fi MAC address unavailable. If you have an idea just write it down!
Didnt try factory reset yet, hoping you have better idea!
Sry for bad english..
you have to be roooted:
delete or rename(i suggest an extension change with the date) bcm_supp.conf in /data/wifi/
I suggest using root explorer, terminal is also an option.
warning, you will lose saved wifi networks/passwords.
you can open the file to retrieve some passwords.
if you have a titanium backup of system data i think you could restore it with that, not sure about it.
I dont care about passwords, will get them easy.
But i'm not that good using Terminal Emulator. What should i write in it to rename/delete bcm_supp?
EDIT : you are my hero! just installed root explorer (really cool apk), renamed the file above and works fine!
If u ever come to Croatia you got a beer

Yup, root explorer is a nice app, I had to do it via the terminal myself a couple of times, not as pleasant as with root explorer.
P.S. I got a beer, yay! Where in Croatia?
I just got an HD2 (flashed windows 7) and when I try connecting it to my home network, it will say connecting and then after a while it shows "Connection Unsuccessful"
I have a linksys wrt610n router, and i even tried resetting the router but still the problem persists.
First I thought it might be a phone issue, but it was connecting perfectly fine to the local library's hotspot and a starbucks hotspot. So that means, it's definitely something wrong with my house network that it won't let me connect.
All the other devices : ipod touch, laptop, xbox 360, connect fine to the network.
Please help me with this issue, as I am using HD2 without a data plan so without wifi,i cant fully use the functionalities of hd2.
Thanks.
Is your ssid hidden? Wp7 has troubles with that, you could try the wp7 section without sounding cocky, there is a couple of threads mate about it, more help in there.

Yeah, even before flashing the rom the same problem existed. I think it's something wrong with my network, as I am able to connect perfectly fine with at a starbucks hotspot.
And no it's not hidden. The networks visible and the name of the network is with spaces -> cow boy , does that make a difference?
do you have mac filtering or anything turned on liked that in the router setup ??
do you have any crazy characters in the password like %^& ??? that could be a prob not sure also check these out looks like it could be a sd card problem, have you ever had it connect using android or winmo 6.5???

All are so much talked methods but none them worked. Have you tested these process in your phones???
I tried and none of them worked. Connectify didnt worked and AdHoc just reboot the phone while getting IP. In GDX, GingerCruz, GingerXperia and Ginger Cyborg. Hahahaha
Have any new idea?
i also tried to share my laptop internet through wifi with X8, but failed, i was reading a lot about this virtual wifi adapter on win 7 and i tried connectify, Virtual Router, mHotSpot etc ( almost everything possible, command line too) but no good result, but in Connectify i was able to established a wifi connection with laptop, and connectify software showed no errors, but couldn't load any web pages or market, there must be a error in somewhere and till today i couldn't able to find it.
Did anyone got this working successfully, please share it with us....
thanks

I use Kuyadroid and I used to get reboot when screen timed out on ad hoc but with newest version I have very fast and stable connection. I suggest you try it out yourself, it's cwm and xrec so easy install and OC to 691mhz gives smooth games and scrolling plus great battery life.
Set up an unsecured ad hoc network for testing and clear all your remembered wifi settings on x8.

ok, great news. i will try.
For almost any OS other than Windows 7 - you need to root your phone, add ad-hoc network support and create a shared wifi connection in your PC.
For windows 7, you can use virtualrouter to share internet with android -
How to share pc internet with android.
It would have been very easy if android supported ad-hoc. But unfortunately they don't (even iphone supports adhoc) and from various threads, they don't seem to have any plans to support it in future as well.

The best thing you can do is BUY a Wi-Fi router. They're really cheap now, and you can connect many things at them.

Just use connectify ...

Im using it ..
Hi guys! I just wnted to ask something.
I rooted my phone with Baidu Root Application, and well, it was rooted.
After my phone was rooted, i can now use gamecih, titanium backup, and any other apps that require root. Here, I still have internet access. After a few days, I don't have internet access anymore. In our laptop, my mother's phone, and my father's phone, and my brother's tablet I have internet access but not on my cellphone.
Before, I got my new phone (Lenovo A396i) I have a Samsung Galaxy Y rooted. I got this same problem too. But, in the Galaxy Y, an expert rooted it, not me. And they installed Superuser in it. I got the same problem too, I connected to our wifi and it doesn't have internet access.
I tried to format my phone, unroot it with SuperSU, downloaded apps that can fix wifi, and rebooted it so many times.
Is this problem normal or not?
What should I do?
Do you have the same problem on other Wifi? (At school, work, ..) or just at home?
It might be a dynamic IP problem, maybe even from your wireless and not your phone.

I don't honestly know. Now, I don't connect to other wifi because there are no open wifi's. But, what if the problem is my smartphone and what should I do? And if the problem is the wifi what should I do too?
If the problem was from the Wifi, usually there is a problem from assigning dynamic IP to your phone. Usually if you're having this problem you'll get "Obtaining IP address" Message on your phone while connected to your WIFI.
You can try to assign a static IP address for your phone as mentioned here. You have to know the range of available IP addresses from your Wifi router though.
Anyway if it's your phone, I suggest try to "Forget Network" and then try to connect again. In worst cases, you can flash a stock ROM, and try a different root method.
