Using ADB to wipe sms/mms messages - Vibrant General

I accidentally restored more than 10k + sms/mms messages using SMSBackup +
Obviously the phone is not responsive any longer except to ADB commands. That is, I can't open the messaging app, or titanium or anything else.
I just want to erase ALL sms/mms data using ADB so that I don't have to wipe my SD card. Does anyone know where they are stored?
adb shell and su are working fine, the phone is rooted
just need to know what to rm in there...

Just give your phone about 15 minutes to set up. I know after restoring 1k messages, my vibrant can become slow/unresponsive for a minute or two.

copy app data between wipe

i was wondering if its possible to copy application data between wipe. e.g. right now i have k-9 mail set up for my work e-mail with all my appropriate settings and such. if i want to perform a wipe is there anyway i can backup all my settings for the app and restore them after perfoming a wipe and installing a new rom? my biggest annoyance right now is setting up all my apps again after switching roms.
my guess would be to just pull the .apk and .odex (if available) files from the app and push them back once the new ROM is installed.

Titanium Backup...its in the market. I would swear by it. I've never had to re-setup an app since I started using it. There is a free version and a donate version. The free version works great but its worth the donate if you can.
True, titanium back up is the best. You get every thing back. If your phone is rooted.
Will titanium work between frameworks? Say, swapping from Fresh 2.1 to Darch Legend
yes, it will. though it won't restore market links unless you pay for the donate version.
Hrm, it's popping an error:
"Busybox works but the "su" command does not elevate to root: "Whoami" reports "whoami: unknown uid 10091" instead of uid 0. I think your superuser whitelist system app does not work. Please check with your ROM provider."
Superuserpermission.apk fixes the uid issue. Search for it in a post from mercado79. The author of titanium knows the solution.

[Q] How to delete 4500 sms?!!

Hy, I have a big problem: I have 4500 sms on my smartphone (HD2), and i can't delete all my messeges D:
I try with chomp sms,sms backup and restore, but there is nothing to do D:
When I try to delete,my HD2 continue to work, but don't delete messages :/ It work, and work and work for too hours, but no messages are delete!!
Wow, I wonder what is happening? Can you delete in smaller "chunks"? Almost sounds like the SMS thread is getting choked.
Have you tried to suspend the SMS Service and then delete? Worth a try.
Is there a menu item to transfer the messages to SD Card and them wipe them out from there?
I could always write something, but it would take me some time since I"m in the middle of other projects (one of them being SMS related LOL).
Idk if this will work but handcent application has force delete in the application. Just an idea.
You can just delete the dialer Memory in settings apps...

If it has adb like a regular android device, then do this from a windows cmd prompt:
Code:
adb remount
adb shell
cd data/data/com.*.*.telephony/databases
rm telephony.db
rm mmssms.db
exit
adb reboot
Been awhile sense I ran android on my hd2 but try booting back into windows and delete them from there and then reload android. This is of course if you are running dual boot. Could be wrong though been known to happen a time or to lol

True root?

I have successfully rooted MT4G using method from this forum.
I can install few items that need root access, like shootme, titanium backup etc... I also see su in terminal OK.
However, when I run titanium backup/restore I only see 5 items: accounts, app widgets, bluetooth pairings, country/language, wifi access points - that's it!
Am I truly rooted? On my nexus one I had almost 200 items....
Only you know which you followed the temp root or perm root instructions. Did you run the root.sh? guessing from SU in console you are fully rooted. I just find it odd you rooted your own device and did not know it now thats dangerous.

Busybox installs fine with msg 'your phone is rooted'
Btw, no danger when I said 'successfully rooted' based on the info from this forum.
Did it exactly: visionary and then ran the code in terminal, everything is loookig good.
It's actually much easier than previously thought.
However, this titanium backup bothers me - there isn't much to backup.
Is there an alternative? Love titanium, it's just doesn't seem to work for me anymore.
Why would that be?
When I finally restarted the phone the third time (restart and power off are exact bass-awkwards - power off is just like sleep mode, doesn't remove items @temp cache)
the whole slew of apps showed up @titanium. Case closed.
Another q: can't find nandroid backup. I'm on clockwork, which it has its own backup/restore, and I'm assuming it's the same thing?

Nandroid backup/restore is included inside the recovery OS that you must flash. It is not a Java app.

Google Apps for Android 2.3.6 or pushing /data via ADB

Edit: The old title was "Google Apps for Android 2.3.6 ROMOW 4.1 ROM"
Hi everyone
I was running the great ROMOW 4.1 ROM on my Note and (I don't know what hit me) mistakenly flashed the google apps 6 for ICS (I didn't know the ICS bit at the time of flashing). In order to fix this I flashed the updated ROMOW 5.1 ROM and immediately ran into more trouble. After flashing, the system boots nicely but then hangs in a google account setup error loop. My last backup is from mid of december and I now wonder whether I could simply flash the correct google apps version on top of the mess in order to get back to normal?
Doing a factory reset also solves the issue but then all my Xmas SMS as well as other data from my last backup till today will be gone.
Before doing the factory reset I took a CWM backup of the faulty system which worked perfectly.
Thanks a lot for any suggestions and have a great year!

Sms backup + In the market backs up urn sms to gmail. Titanium backup does you apps and settings that about covers it I think?

Thanks for your answer. Unfortunately as I am stuck in a fatal error setup loop the only things I can do is boot into recovery and work from there or restore an old backup, trying to recover my settings and data from the CWM backup of the faulty system which I took before factory resetting the phone.
Does anyone know how I could retrieve my SMSs and call logs as well as my sMemo drawings from the CWM Backup of the faulty system as these are the crucial things I would like to recover. I have a many hours worth of sMemo drawings and restoring the sMemo user data with Titanium Backup didn't recover them. I don't understand why sMemo doesn't store the drawings on the sdcard and why Titanium didn't backup those. The same goes for SMSs, shouldn't those also be backed up by Titanium?
Again, thanks a lot for your help and for any short explanations of the above!
suxi
OK, this is a great way to learn about android
I learned that I can unzip the CWM backup data.ext4.tar from my faulty system and push certain user data back to a fresh system using ADB.
I am after my SMemo drawings and my SMS Messages. I think the sMemo files for example could be here:
com.sec.android.widgetapp.diotek.smemo
If I push those files/directories in recovery mode with adb to my /data/data directory everything seems fine. I can list them in an ADB shell but after a reboot they are gone.
Do I have a permission issue here?
adb root says I am running adb as root
I also tried adb remount before pushing with no success.
I really appreciate any help!
Thanks a lot
suxi
Nearly there!
I flashed a new custom ROM, booted into recovery mode and mounted the /data directory (before I forgot to do that and couldn't push any data in recover mode because of that).
I extracted the following directories from my faulty system backup and pushed them with adb to the fresh phone:
/data/data/com.android.providers.telephony
/data/data/com.sec.android.provider.logsprovider
After this all my SMS and Calllog Databases were restored.
Now I just need to find the necessary sMemo Databases. I found this one so far:
com.sec.android.widgetapp.diotek.smemo
But pushing this only brings back the document and pile structure with empty documents in sMemo.
Does anyone know where the missing documents are?
Thanks a lot and have a great weekend

This handy app can restore your sms and Apps from CWM. So feel free to flash again any ROM and then use the app to extract your SMS
Good luck

Thank you, that app sounds perfect. Have you tried it? I tried to recover some system Apps and it frequently performs a quick restart in the middle of it, so I guess the remaining Apps had not been restored.
Unfortunately it also doesn't recover my precious sMemo drawings. Does anyone have an idea where in the data directory those are stored?
Best wishes

Broken screen, need to check texts and missed calls

Hi,
My nexus 4 has a broken screen, the touch screen does not work but:
I have an OTG cable
Bootloader is unlocked
Touch recovery is installed
I can connect via ADB HOWEVER when I try su in shell it won't let me because I think I need to accept the SU request on the phone.
My lock screen password is the android 9 dot type password :/
Is there anything I can do? I just really need to see texts and missed calls (and whatsapp messages) I may have had calls and texts from future employers that I have missed.
Thanks
nandrioid
I remember from galaxy nexus toolkit that you could actually make a nandroid backup on your pc.
search for that procedure in nexus 4 forums, i think that's a common function of android. you can make a nandroid backup on ur pc.
after that backup you can put it in other phone and extract that backup using titanium backup. and restore your messages and call logs to other phone

flash multirom twrp(the only one i used), put phone on recovery mode, connect to pc and type in cmd prompt
adb shell mount /data(may give some error msg, its ok)
adb pull /data c:\backup
and wait till it backups everything.
when it does you can pass to some1(if u have games, u may delete files in c:\backup\data\media\obb to have less size on backup) with nexus 4 or get some database viewer to look the files in c:\backup\data/package.name.that.i.dont.remember
and in c:\backup\data\media\0\some.folder.that.i.dont.remember.
Got a new screen int he end
