True root? - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have successfully rooted MT4G using method from this forum.
I can install few items that need root access, like shootme, titanium backup etc... I also see su in terminal OK.
However, when I run titanium backup/restore I only see 5 items: accounts, app widgets, bluetooth pairings, country/language, wifi access points - that's it!
Am I truly rooted? On my nexus one I had almost 200 items....

Only you know which you followed the temp root or perm root instructions. Did you run the root.sh? guessing from SU in console you are fully rooted. I just find it odd you rooted your own device and did not know it now thats dangerous.

Busybox installs fine with msg 'your phone is rooted'
Btw, no danger when I said 'successfully rooted' based on the info from this forum.
Did it exactly: visionary and then ran the code in terminal, everything is loookig good.
It's actually much easier than previously thought.
However, this titanium backup bothers me - there isn't much to backup.
Is there an alternative? Love titanium, it's just doesn't seem to work for me anymore.
Why would that be?

When I finally restarted the phone the third time (restart and power off are exact bass-awkwards - power off is just like sleep mode, doesn't remove items @temp cache)
the whole slew of apps showed up @titanium. Case closed.
Another q: can't find nandroid backup. I'm on clockwork, which it has its own backup/restore, and I'm assuming it's the same thing?

Nandroid backup/restore is included inside the recovery OS that you must flash. It is not a Java app.

Anyone got Titanium backup to work?

I thought once we have root all apps would work. But titanium says it needs busybox. That's one of the best root apps

Click on "problems?" in the app and it will download bussybox.
It works just fine on my rooted phone.
I just finished rooting my Evo and did exactly as above. The first time you start Titanium, it will ask for root, then say it failed. That's most likely because Busybox is missing. Click on "Problems?" and let it install Busybox. Restart Titanium Backup and all is well.
I also had good luck grabbing the TitaniumBackup directory from my Hero's SD card and putting it on the Evo's card and restoring my apps that way. Very handy if you want your settings back.

Wanna root. What all should I backup?

Hi.
I want to root my legend and Want to know what all data I will lose on my internal memory as I heard that rooting involves wipe of the phone.
So do I need to backup my apps, messages, contacts, before rooting ? And is there a software that will Do this job well ? (Have heard that this app called nandroid will do this job)

Use softroot using Universal Androot 1.6.2 beta 5
Install SuperUser from the market as well
Then get Titanium Backup and backup all your user apps and system settings (at least the green ones)
Nandroid is a full "ghost" like backup and isn't possible without root/recovery...
Hi, will softroot allow installation of apps2sd ?

Didn't work
Universal androot said your device is rooted but titanium couldn't get through

Yes, see my post above...
Did the universal androot.
Got the superuser
and titanium backup... And clicked the 'problems' button and downloaded a patch.
However, when i tried deleting some software (which i am 100% sure it's not system, but bloatware), HTC shutsdown everything and force restart my phone...
Any other ideas? I love my ROM as it is (non-rooted) but hate the bloatware...
You can't change the content of your /system/app folder, not even rooted. Only in recovery mode and if you have a patched kernel. That is until S-OFF comes out, correct me if I'm wrong
Thanx Kwen. It worked after downloading the busybox.
Pls tell me what can I do with the soft root. Can I use Apps2Sd ?

[Q] z4 root? how to? where?

I am new to this and all I am looking for is wireless tether. Can anyone help please? Where do I find z4 root and then how do I use it and what else do I need to download? Thanks
Here you go!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833953
Thanks but when I look on the market I cannot find z4 root. Anywhere else it could be?
z4root http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833953
wireless tether http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/
Just as an.fyi as someone has provided links....
Z4root was removed from the market. You have to find it here on forums or floating around on the web

Ok so I found it on google somewhere I installed. It ask if I want temp or permanent. After I pick one how long should it take. And do I need to install anything else
i forget if z4root wipes your phone, but i suggest doing a batch backup of all your apps and system data in titanium backup (on the market) and def get dxbootstrap to make nandroid backups if you plan on doing anything further with your phone in the future.
thanks i dont really know what that means
except for a backup file
nandroid is a complete backup. and when i say complete, i dont know another word that can describe how much i mean complete. it has every little detail down to your text messages.
titanium backup is an app that is just awesome. it can backup, freeze, and uninstall apps and system data/apps
Z4root doesn't wipe your phone... once it's done doing its thing and you're successfully rooted you won't even notice anything different (except for superuser in your app drawer) .... you'll know if you're rooted once an app that required root works...good luck!

[Q] how do i uninstall t-mobile apps on my mytouch 4g

Is there any way to uninstall the factory app without perm root
No I don't believe so, but if u do root, you can flash a rom called ice glacier(unthemed) , its basically the stock rom without all the bloatware that you're trying to remove, or you can just root and freeze the apps with titanium backup pro version, freezing doesn't delete the apps it just renders them useless incase. U ever need them just unfreeze that specific app very easy to do.

how do i uninstall the factory apps???
Once you have root you can use a Root File Manager from the market to uninstall the apk's or use BloatFreezer. Alternatively you can flash Faux's Orange Glacier rom, which is Stock 2.2.1 with the bloat removed
Root manager cost money.. haha is there a free one? or another methods?
You can flash this, its just the stock rom with root and t-mobile apps taken out

Titanium Backup can uninstall system apps. Honestly, though, uninstalling things can be risky because you don't know for certain what apps your system actually needs in order to function properly. It's much much easier to flash a custom ROM that doesn't have any of that to begin with.

Titanium backup kept spam asking me for superuser access so I used a differnet app
I use "Root Uninstaller" and it didn't have a problem

When the SuperUser prompt comes up, is the box for "Remember" checked? If it is, then Titanium Backup should be added to the SuperUser allow list.
I use titanium backup, im temp rooted & have deleted several apps. Works great

[Q] titanium backup root access

Hi,
I've rooted my Aria using Unrevoked and loaded FR008 ROM, however Titanium Backup keeps telling me that the phone is not yet rooted.
I wonder if anyone has similar experience with Titanium Backup.
Thanks.

I personally have not but what i'm wondering is...have you tried any other apps such as "my backup root" and received the same message?
oh, also, you can try going into the superuser app and see if anything regarding titanium backup is messed up in there (i.e. being denied root access)
Make sure you accidentally didn't disallow titanium root access in the superuser app.
If you previously allowed it, remove the entry and let it re-ask permission.

Thanks. My backup root works just fine. Will give Titanium another try later.
