I have an Infuse that came with a stock video player. It works well on my infuse and I wanted to port it over to my Iconia. I pulled it from my Infuse, copied the .apk and emailed it to myself. However, the .apk will not install. Unfortunately, it starts to install, but fails. I get the package installer dialogue box, it starts to install and then ends with application not installed.
Am I an idiot?
I know that not all .apk's are universal, but I like the video player from my Infuse. Anyone care to let me know their thoughts?
Thanks,
If it's a stock player from a earlier verson of android its likely not completable.
Ugh...
It probably won't work - porting stock apps from one rom to the other tends to be a bit tricky, at best.
Try "MX player" . Free, fast, and pretty much will play every format you throw at it
Dice player plays nearly everything with hardware acceleration. Therefore no lags

Thanks for the responses. I kind of figured that it was a compatibility issue, but wanted to see if someone had any ideas.
Appreciate the responses and recommendations for different players.
Wow, most useless thread.title.ever.
Would you consider editing your original title into something more appropriate so it can be found easier by other people searching or scanning? That would be peachy.

So is full flash experience with adobe 10.1 possible on HTC HERO. I have Darchdroid 2.8 running on mine.
thx
guys... theres like 15 other threads asking the same thing, and multiple posts within rom threads..
If you want flash in any kinda way (lite) you need to be running a sense_ui rom
For example both zenheroFX and zenEXP have flash.
Darchdroid, aosp and cm roms will not be able to run it.
Thanks for pointing that out. Really liked DD2.8 otherwise.
what are you guys doing that makes you want/need flash on a phone with a tiny screen? I really am curious, I cannot think of anything that I would want to do on a phone that requires flash. Are you trying to play face book flash games or something? Hulu could maybe be a use, but flash video barely works on an Atom running anything but windows, so it sure as hell isn't going to work on an ARM running android...
I am interested in some news websites that show live feed of tv channel. went to sprint's store and evo played it really well.
so flash video.... the evo is a much faster phone, also htc put a lot of effort into the version of flash that's on there.

That's right... it took sometime and effort and some craziness. I have successfully achieved bootstrap and clockwork recovery on my Dpro!!! Here is what I can tell you so far:
My phone is of course rooted.
It is Deodexed using the manual method described in one of my earlier posts!!!
My sd-card came out of my former droid x that was also deodexed, clockwork modded and bootstrap.
Here what I did and without an sbf it was crazy but sometimes it pays off.
I downloaded the Droid X bootstrap from koush in the android market, applied bootstrap and reboot recovery...
I have yet to be able to access recovery via rom manager but I feel I have made a big step towards getting us to that point... I believe with some tweaking and trail and error, I might be able too...
I will post anything else I stumble into.... I will try to hit koush up to see if rom manager can be tweaked.... here hoping!!!
Also remember you take the risks on your own. there's no sbf out so if it fails you are stuck!
Extra Followup
I successfully bootstrapped and was able to enter clockwork recovery. Here's some additional info:
Droid X bootstrap appears to work... can anyone verify this other than myself?
You can enter Clockwork Recovery only through the Reboot Recovery button in the bootstrap program.
I successfully backed up my Droid Pro with Clockwork version 2.5.0.6 which runs from the bootstrap. I have not tried a restore to see if it works... has anyone?
I have tried to rom manager and flash a new recovery. Upon restart, phone tries to enter clockwork recovery but freezes on load. I tried to get the phone flashed with the same recovery that is in the bootstrap program but no success.
This is where I am at. If anyone can share any new info, please do... I will continue on my side to try different things. I am also trying to get koush and tbh involved to help without success so far.
Thanks Everyone!
Wow...great job!
I won't bother trying it because I can't afford to mess up the phone, and it's not like I would be able to do anything even if it worked, since I have no developing knowledge, but I do know that this is a big step forward.
It's a great effort mate. I hope the chef's can build on this method and improvise. Hence giving us Custom ROM's to play with.

Custom ROM? Nah... I just want a stock 2.2 Froyo or 2.3 Gingerbread with the moto blur layer and fixed auto problems. Seems droid pro's can't play music without chopping out / stuttering :'(.

You guys don't like your music chopped and screwed?
I actually haven't listened to music on my Pro yet. Is it really that horrible?

It is, even if you plug some phones, you still get very small freezes that are really annoying, I just don't understand how can Moto release a premium phone with an issue like this, and they weren't even capable of releasing a fix...

I have, and there's no skipping or chopping whatsoever
Those with a problem must be using sub-par media cards.
How are your phones set up, and what program are you using to play music? I just tried mine with 2 songs using both the stock music player and PowerAmp, and they work just fine. No skips or anything. This is with both headphones and through the phone's speaker.
Mine is rooted, with LauncherPro, and a bunch of the useless stock apps deleted. Other than that, I haven't done much.
im havingthe audio issue. lots of pops and crackling while listen to any music on any player. tried multiple things but have yet to try a different sd card. maybe formatiing it on the droid pro would help? any body try this yet?
Similar problem - choppiness ... in fact, I think my pro rebooted today from playing music.

I think you meant BlackBerry - as BlackBerry is its only competition.
EDIT: The Music and other battery issues will improvise with an OTA Update. Motorola is quite adamant in promoting this Enterprise Android phone as it directly competes with RIM. Hence we can expect OTA updates on a more frequent basis as soon as bugs have been discovered.
Wow! So far my first initial impressions with the Streak unlocked is very good! I never played with an Android phone, but this one is blowing me away with what it can do compared to my iPhone 4. I love how much control I get with this device. For the first couple of hours, I was getting error messages when browsing sites about server redirects and also noticed the screen was never auto rotating on 2.2. I found the Dell package update and now I am loving the browser and the rotation works perfectly! So far I downloaded the Dolphin HD and Firefox Browser, but prefer the Dolphin. I also synced my iTunes library and photos using Double Twist. I bought some games - Fruit Ninja, psx4droid and snesnoid. I only tried psx4droid which runs very well. I read a few online comics using flash and played some music listening from it's very loud rear speaker. I really like it. I am still trying to figure out how to add words to Swype, but eventually will figure it out. All I need to do now is find a good podcast player that does the 2x speed like my iPhone and somehow get Netflix playing on it and the phone/tablet will be perfect. I love how portable it is compared to my wife's iPad. I can actually fit it easily in my pocket and use it for real web browsing and book reading on the Kindle app! Does anyone think buying a magazine subscription on Zinio is worth it?
I think this is the post your talking about I pulled my build prop from my phone and it didint have the suggested value thou heres the link. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11268565&postcount=1201
I think vlara has got the wrong thread...
Glad to hear stories like yours! welcome to android!
You can use playon to stream netflix from your PC, i haven't tried it yet but you can there is a trial period for it.
As for zinio, if your into magazines go for it. There are some magazines you can download for free, try one of those out and if you like it, buy it

Performance Fix. I am running 318 with the performance fix and it works well for me.
Installing any of Steve's ROM's requires that you flash a replacement recovery, see this guide at streakdroid.com.
sorry if this has been hashed out somewhere else but i could not find it. does anyone know if you will be able to watch hulu on the transformer. my guess is no but alas i still have to ask thanks a lot
Hulu doesn't allow any mobile device to play their video, except for devices supported by Hulu+ (which I think is only iOS devices at this point).
I've been using PlayOn TV for both Netflix and Hulu on my Xoom, and it works well enough. Needs a Windows PC to stream the video, and it costs a bit of money, but actually still works out less than Hulu+ so it's a bit of a wash at this point.
Use the included My Desktop feature to watch Hulu.
that's what i thought. its pretty lame for those of us who want to use them as a laptop replacement

I agree, but be thankful that you can take your Android device out of a box and start using it - with iOs, you are forced to use a computer to "activate" the device. What a PITA!
agreed i had a iphone 4 it was jailbroken. well anyways i tryed to do a master reset so i could sell it and low and behold it forced me to update to the latest software and firmware. it sure was a pain to sell it after that, now i have HTC inspire and much more happy
Actually, there is a flash player mod that hex edits the lib file to trick hulu into thinking your a windows PC. It works great on the incredible aand the xoom (I'm told) :,but whether that will work with transformer is another story.
Also, to the best of my knowledge, it requires root.

dont mean to bring up an old thread but in case anyone is wondering .. using the hacked flash apk, i was able to stream through hulu.com .. works good and although its not in HD, the quality is very good!

I had been thinking of all those who are going to or already have gotten a new phone, but thanks to the development community still love their old Erii. I am going to eventually (as soon as I get a job) switch mine, but I really love my Eris and don't want to see it end up getting tossed out like it's garbage. So I had an idea for a super-light ROM that disables or deletes anything not need for being a fancy mp3 player (read Android version of an iPod Touch).
I had asked Workshed if he might want to do it, and he said he thinks it's a great idea. I think it should happen and so I am asking the rest of the devs to try.
It should :
Be as fast as possible.
Be super stable.
Have (baked in) the WiFi only script.
Be sexy.
If possible, be either ICS or ICS-themed. (optional but would be cool)
If there is a dev that feels like giving it a try, respond here and see what you can do.
I love you all here on XDA. But even more so the development community of the Eris. It's made the using of such an outdated phone bearable and, in fact, enjoyable.
a froyo rom like this was made a year ago.. im surprised nobody has made a gingerbread version.. and honestly for a device thats not a phone.. i could deal with froyo... 2.3 on my touch pro 2 runs so slow...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=979808
I have made my own "music only" ROM based off GSB 4.5 that workshed just released.
basically, I just load the "wifi-only" script via init.d, and have stripped out everything not necessary. The only remaining annoyance is that the signal bars for the cell network still appear in the status bar, just grayed out and with an x over them... I'm trying to find a way to remove the signal bars entirely from the device, and then I will be happy.
Is it not possible to just remove them from systemui. In a sense just remove the actual PNG files.

I'm using xtrROM, because I needed native wma support. I stripped everything I didn't need. I used zeam launcher and put only one screen to avoid the annoying auto scroll from the well known crappy track-ball problem. I underclocked it with setcpu, down to 256Hz with the screen off. Added wifi only script, and I can get about 6 days moderate use and 8 hours of continuous play. I think an mp3 rom is a good idea, but I have already got a good setup. WMA support is a must though.

Futile post, I made a thread with the rom I released.
Called (ROM) Abridged for Music
I'll have to try that one once I get my new phone (soon so don't worry). If it's not fast, I suggest asking workshed for tips, since GSB has speed figured out. It should be really fast if the bloat gets removed, or at least easy to make faster. And as far as forgetting the script, don't worry. All devs forget something from time to time.
Also, if there are any devs working on ICS for the Eris, I would love one of them to try this out, as it could be a simpler "starter version" of their final work and be perfectly suited for this. After all, most ROMs start out really rough, with no working phone or some such problem. In this version, they wouldn't have to work all the major problems out, after all. All we want is to have no phone access, but WiFi. Not even Bluetooth.
However, I have to point out that this thread is for getting devs interested in the project. You should make your own thread for the result, so people can come to you and let you know of issues and suggestions.

I'd say leave Bluetooth, myself. There's a lot of Bluetooth pieces for streaming media and you won't have those stupid wires hanging out of your head ...

I just wanted to pop in and say that preludedrew mentioned the following to me about a possible future addition to Evervolv...
preludedrew: oh btw, kinda on the same subject of your small builds
preludedrew: I Want to do a 'media' build
preludedrew: more or less, a build that can be used as a media player
preludedrew: goes through and disables all telephony except wifi
preludedrew: for people that have spare phones and want to use them as mp3 players.

Not sure when one of us might get around to that but it's on our radar.
