Your question is so vague that it is pretty much unanswerable, and potentially not even the question your looking to ask. [MOD EDIT: taking sideswipes at a user which isn't relevant]
Try supplying more detail, and hope with all your might that you're not asking a question that's easily able to be found with an answer somewhere in the forums... [MOD EDIT: taking sideswipes at a user which isn't relevant]

A video uploaded in it in 1080p format avi or mp4 will not play giving me error

You need a good player, so pick one between Dice player and the less good but free MX video player. Then get ready to overclock, and you should play easily any 720p video. Just forget 1080p, the Tegra2 can't handle it.

That was funny

I've watched 1080p videos on youtube but I haven't felt like copying a +10GB file to my TF just to see.

the screen doesn't have enough pixels to play 1080p
1080p is 1920x1080
But the transformers screen is 1280x800
720p is the higest resolution it can play

Without downscaling. The even lower resoultion Galaxy tab (the original 7" one) is 1024x600 and yet it does play 1080p... we could argue about the point of doing that, but that's not really on topic

with hdmi out you can get 1080p. that said since the tf can only play low profile 1080p h.264, there is little point to transcoding to anyghing other than 720p

Actually there is ppl who are looking for TF to play 1080p without transcoding... like someone who have lot of 1080p videos in NAS/PC who would like to stream over TF.
I know u can transcode over on the fly via VLC, but it would be good to stream it as it is. Whether TF can display 1080 is another question.
I think this is a valid request to asus since Nvdia put this as the key feature of Tegra 2.
"1080p Video Playback Processor — Watch 1080p HD movies stored on your mobile device on your HDTV without compromising battery life."

Maybe it's an android limitation.....iin media format specs i read "h264 baseline profile"...and i think no videos today are in this format....
I'm tryin with some footage shooted with my pana TM700 (1080/50p)...usignd adobe media encoder i'm serching the way to see my videos on my TF.....

How to watch HD movies?

I have 720p movies ripped from original disc to MKV on my desktop. How do I watch these 720p movies on my EVO? Is there an easier way to put movies on my EVO?
Another question, when I go to YOUTUBE.com on my EVO, all the videos look blurry and are horrible quality... Even when I do a search for 720p quality videos, when I play the video it looks horrible... What am I doing wrong?
What audio/video codecs were used during the encodong?
With youtube, click the HQ button. That should increase the quality.
i have also set youtube to high quality from the setting but still no 720p videos even after the HQ on.

The Evo doesn't have support for HD video. What you're looking for is the HQ button, which stands for high quality. Not all videos have the HQ button enabled.

Sounds like you may be browsing to YouTube. Instead, go to "All apps" and open the "YouTube" app.
It all depends on the videos themselves. For example, lookup any new movie trailers and set the app to HQ, they should look spectacular.
Remember, Android still doesn't have a quality video player akin to CorePlayer for WinMo.
The device itself (correct me if I'm wrong) does not support playback at 720p on its own screen; it outputs 720p via the HDMI port.

You are correct--720p is 1280x720 and the EVO's screen is 800x480. So it will play 720p video, but scaled down to fit the EVO's screen resolution.
As far as playing video on the EVO screen, I think it will play any resolution (although you may get performance issues at very high resolutions) but scaled to fit the screen.
What programs are you guys using for ripping? Just curious...
Handbrake cya

handbrake.
Aspect ratio: 800 x 480
Video codec: H.264(x264)
Framerate: Same as source

It's not cheap, but I figure that is the cost of having the freedom to copy blu-ray to my other devices. It would be nice though if it was a one time cost, but alas it is not.

Can Xoom play Youtube 1080p or 720p videos ?

Can the Xoom play Youtube 1080p or 720p videos ? I'm not interested in 1080p or 720p movie or video files playback. I want to know if the Honeycomb Youtube app has the option to play 1080p or 720p videos. The last time I checked a Xoom and its Youtube app in the store, it just had a HQ option, I couldn't find any option to select 720 or 1080p's. Please suggest. I spend lot of time on Youtube and I need this feature. It is one of the critical features, that helps be decide to go for the Xoom or not. Thanks.
I believe once the final version of Flash 10.2 is out the Xoom should be able to play 720p Smooth.

did you really need to post 3x in a row? coulda been combined into one post.
anywho, we were discussing 1080p playback on Youtube, not a 1080p file being played natively on the xoom.
just because on the youtube title its marked as '1080p' doesn't necessarily mean its being played in 1080p. its most likely playing in 720p, can't confirm, but theres no point in playing a 1080p file on a 800p device. thats all im really trying to get at.
I'm pretty sure it can, set you browser agent to iPod, go to youtube website and search for 1080p, it will play any of those HTML5 streams in 1080p. Make sure you add
&fmt=37
At the end of the URL. That's youtube code for 1080p

No, earlier posts have indicated that Tegra-2 is not capable of *high profile* H264 1080P playback! It is capable of 1080P H264 in baseline profile, and I believe main profile too.

Nope, 720p main profile and 1080p baseline, it's a pity.
Anyway i'm very pleased of 720p main converted in a couple of hours with Handbrack.
thanks everyone, my new Acer Iconia tab A500 is here, and i transfer my 108p, h.264, high profile movies into the tablet, it does not work!
according to your recommendations, i download handbrake, but i encountered a boring problem. it takes me lots of time to load my video into the tool, and i don't know how to use.
so i google "convert 1080p high profile to Acer Iconia tab A500" and found a tool called Fox Real video converter. hooray, it is easy to use. now i have converted 1080p h.264 high profile to my Acer Iconia tab A500 for enjoying successfully.
thanks everyone again!

[Q] Full hd video playback

I justried to play full HD videos through my pendrive......the default video player says file cannot be played and when I try to play through mobo player the audio and video is out of sync....I thought this tab plays full HD videos.....guys some advice!!
AFAIK it doesn't. 3.1 should have Full HD support but 3.0.1 doesn't have it.
I could be wrong though.
3.1 as far as we know will not play 1080p videos only output them via HDMI.
Currently only 720p can be played.
I hope im wrong about the first thing.
But in the tabs config it was written that it plays full hd videos!
And even xoom plays full hd vids!

FullHD 1080p wmv works and probably the same with some mkv's but audio will not ... it will just scale the video to 720p..
you can try mkv's with "Astro filemanager" -> Open As -> video
and the mkv will play, if not already loaded automatically..
this also works for other formats..

tablet have to convert and downscale anyway to render the video... since 1080 > 800
you should convert, it's the best things and that will save in a way the battery....

its not stuck at 720p.. but if you think about it, your native tablet resolution is 1280x800 , which is natively projected/mirrored to your telly and if you want 1080p which is then going to happen with it?
its gonna scale it...
if your video of 1920x1080 should be played on a tv without mirror, it could work, but i doubt it got the videomemory to have 1 fullHD and one scaled at 1280x1080 . which is the problem right now..
but i know Atrix4G have something like that, as i uses 2 separate displays at the same time. so it might be we get that function..no video on tablet, but fullHD on telly.

I dont think so, because have a checked topic for this problem. And some files is played fine, except 1080 i though have some problem with the Tegra2 decode, not because of OS.
So confuse about this problem, if can not play smoothly 720 and 1080, so HDMI output for nothing.

I've tried MX player, rock player and the default video player to playback my 1080p videos but they all still lag and play slowly. All videos are in mp4. Are there any apps out there that would be able to do this?

Dice player is the best by far IMO, even gets rid of the home and back buttons illuminating.
It plays mkv files and I have files over 3gb which also play without any problems.

Just for fun I searched this forum for "1080p" in the thread title only. This doesn't include all the other random ways someone has asked this exact same question at least 100 other times.

This is the first rule of xda
1. Search before posting.
I guarantee this has been asked and answered many times this week alone
not sure about 1080p that's going to be hit and miss especially if you have big file sizes.
I'm using revolver 3.2 at 1.3 and can confirm 720p playback with file sizes of 3 gig or so play perfectly with dice player.
This can play back 1080P files just fine....DEPENDING on the bitrate. It's a limitation of Tegra 2. If the bitrate is high, it will have problems. Just like 720P files with really high bitrates have the same limitations.
Honestly, why does it matter? If you're outputting through HDMI to watch things, then I can kinda understand, but the screen itself only supports 720P. Why bother with 1080P?
Just out of curiosity, does overclocking improve video playback?

This can play back 1080P files just fine....DEPENDING on the bitrate. It's a limitation of Tegra 2. If the bitrate is high, it will have problems. Just like 720P files with really high bitrates have the same limitations.
Honestly, why does it matter? If you're outputting through HDMI to watch things, then I can kinda understand, but the screen itself only supports 720P. Why bother with 1080P?

Bitrate, uh?
How much is "really high"? 10mbps? 16mbps? and why the lower the resolution the higher the bitrate it can handle, if I got your post right?
Nah. I have a 1080p file, 16mbps. Plays well without overclock. I have another 1080p file, 10mbps, dosen't play well even at 1.6ghz. 720p file, still 10mbps, needs overclock (even 1.2ghz is enough). The difference between them? the kind of encoding. All this with Diceplayer, not the horrid Rockplayer, mind you.
Diceplayer works on most of my DSLR footage 1080 with 40-60datarate

I'm struggling with 720p encoded @L4. 1.. Mostly all L3. 1 plays nice in diceplayer.

If I remember correctly, movies encoded in High Profile will not play back well. Main Profile is the best this machine can handle. I believe it's a Tegra 2 limitation in general.

not sure about 1080p that's going to be hit and miss especially if you have big file sizes.
I'm using revolver 3.2 at 1.3 and can confirm 720p playback with file sizes of 3 gig or so play perfectly with dice player.

Let me comment on that:
LOL
Without OC, DICE player (and transformer itself) can only play Level3.1 content and it will slideshow on 99% of internet standard (scene) releases. If you think 'plays perfectly', then you're brain and eyesight damaged.
With OC, you can play play simple 720p content (think WebDL releases) with decent quality (though they will still drop frames in more complex scenes), but more complex releases (think blueray rips) will drop frames on most scenes and slideshow totally on more complex ones.
You would have to be really lucky to find a 1080p movie that will play. Many won't open at all, rest will be dropping frames constantly. When ASUS said that 3.1 update make 1080p playback possible, by playback they meant rendering first frame of the movie.
Dice player is the best
go for it
As mentioned on the other posts about HD playback, the hardware decode of 720p or 1080p H264 with AAC is currently broken in 3.2. Worked fine in 3.1, then got broke. Asus are aware of it and have promised a fix.
If you have such files (e.g. BBC iPlayer HD content) then no player will be able to play them back smoothly as software decode simply can't handle them. Only option is to either transcode or downgrade to HC3.1 to get hardware decode back.
Let's hope the fix is not far off now.
bro just play 720p. trust me you THINK you can tell the difference between 720 and 1080 on a 10' screen but you cant......unless your not human

Well, there cannot possibly exist a difference between displaying 720p and 1080p on a 1280x800 screen, since all 1080p content would be scaled down to 720p. Where 1080p would actually matter is if you often connect to a big monitor or HDTV that is capable of 1080p, such as I do on a regular basis for when I want to watch movies without having to boot up my desktop computer. There is definitely a noticeable difference between 720p videos I've converted with Handbrake and the actual 1080p Blu ray movies, but it's not really a big deal for me.
My suggestion for those truly concerned about high quality 1080p playback would be to buy a netbook equipped with a Nvidia ION or comparable video chipset, as I have had no issues playing Blu ray from my own ION-equipped nettop.
yeah my MX player would lag like crazy. Dice is the way to go!
