No it wont void, but this question was asked on how to use the flashtool, search using the XDA on the Xperia PLAY cross Road section. There are more than a couple of guides for it

Patience..Just wait for OTA update..

Hmm.
I'm in UK and got the notification that there was a software update last night.
I decided to do it OTA so I could keep my root.
It downloaded fine, then went throught the steps to install.
After the final reboot I got 'update could not be applied'.
I am rooted, and I have frozen apps, but I unfroze them all before I did the OTA update. I have removed nothing else.
Any ideas?

Have you modified anything, installed the leeked home.apk etc.?
Regards Dousan

No Dousan.
I rooted and installed these root apps:
Titanium Backup
SD Booser
I only froze (not remove) a few bloat apps and made sure I unfroze them before update.

Try again. You may have lost your connection at one point or it may have corrupted. I don't have any frozen apps but I did remove the crap and my update when great.

Unfortunately no, same again.
Must be something causing it.

BTW Waz, do you know if I'm safe to root my play?
its sim locked to orange but no orange logo on the back like there was on my desire

yeah though the safest way (same way im doing it) is with gingerbrick, leave the bootloader locked and just root it that way.
I already had that version when got my play

as long as your bootloader is locked and you rooted with gingerbrick your ok to update
What were the changes from xx.181 to xx.184? I updated mine but not noticed anything apart from a bit more slowdown?
Does this update block gingerbreak in any way? I'm not rooted yet, and I don't want to lose the ability to root (just haven't had the time to root it yet) after doing this update.

What if you used Titanium Backup or some other freeze program to freeze apps like Timescape and other bloatware. Do they need to all be restored before the update?

If you have a locked bootloader then you can have a look at this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116090
I used this method and now have rooted 2.3.3
I think I'm going to root this weekend. Has anyone from Rogers rooted and went to 2.3.3 rooted? I have an R800a model. I have to uninstall stuff all the time because it won’t use the SD card. I can't even open Google Talk when the memory is low.

If you flash UK generic rom as he did, the phone will look for a UK update and not the one for canada. So you will be able to update OTA.

OK, so I did the PC update to 2.3.3. Didn't like it without root
So I used the above processes to get back to 2.3.2. All good but data dont appear to be working. Phone calls everything else is fine. Data is enabled but I never get G H or E in the status bar.

You have a locked bootloader I'm assuming?
Not exactly sure why this is happening for you but this is exactly what would happen with my phone before I flashed to the uk generic firmware. I was thinking it had something to do with some removed SE software (was rooted). I would probably try starting fresh and flashing the Xperia_Play_Release_Generic_UK.ftf with flashtool, root with gingerbreak and then try ota update again. As soon as I did this OTA update went through without a problem. I'm just guessing that maybe you're running a carrier specific firmware vs the generic UK. I've flashed my phone multiple times with that firmware and flashtool and never had a problem (until I do something stupid and have to reflash ). Updates are not region specific but carrier/firmware(which is provided by your carrier so same thing ...) specific. This isn't your problem of course, just saying rogers firmware will only poll rogers for ota updates, the same with other providers firmware. You might want to take a look at this post though http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14726176&postcount=41 hope it helps
thanks for responding...
thinking about it, I may have caused it. After doing the generic Uk flash. The last message said on the flash tool said to. enable debugging and reconnect.
I then pressed the root button, but it did not work. Stupid as this was for the x10 I think. Guessing maybe this changed something that causes the ota to fail.
I will just have to start from scratch.
thanks agin for your expert advice.

[Need] Original Generic Uk 2.3.2 home launcher

Hi, I have a problem updating via ota. It fails after two bars are completed, after searching around I found that if you remove or even alter certain default apps the ota will fail. The only app that I've changed that would cause this is the home launcher (I installed the leaked latest 2.3.3 one).
I've search around and could not find the uk 2.3.2 launcher and trying to install the r800x 2.3.2 launcher fails. Can anyone upload or point me to where I can find the original launcher?
If you change system apps, it won't even let you start the OTA, it doesn't cause it to fail. Are you updating through 3g or wifi?

Through wifi, and it does let you start the update. I've seen others on this site claim the same thing and requested apps to replace.
Afaik it will start the update. It did with me. 3 blue dots and then a boot and a pop up saying it couldn't update. Then I flashed the 2.3.2 and updated successfully.
I had removed a lot of bloa that was the reason for not updating.. Now I've unlocked my bl so can't update OTA without bricking. Not sure if it will start at all, maybe Sony fixed it so you can't update the usual way anymore with an unlocked bl (pc companion, seus, OTA)?

My bootloader is still locked. My best guess is that it does version checks with each app as it's updating and then updates it. Other apps like my market place was updated from it. But when it gets to a app that we've changed then it fails because it's a different version or some type of other check fails on it. Btw, do you think you could upload your launcher for me?

It might, I'm not sure to be honest. I had restored everything using backups with titanium.

@coreyon if you're rooted do a titanium backup and use flashtool to flash the uk generic .145. Then you could re-root, install your apps again and do the update. I'm not sure about root, you probably loose that with updating to 4.0.A.2.368?
Regards Dousan...
Looks like I just got bit by this myself.. did you wind up having any luck? I'm looking for the previous 2.3.3 version of home, can't update without it unless I reflash from scratch which I'd rather avoid doing if possible..
Sigh and a few days ago I had a 2nd Play that I could have used to grab that file I need LOL DOH
I'm wondering, I also replace my home launcher before with the leaked one (the one w/horizontal mode) that I got from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1195819 I even put a walkman MOD on my music player, but I don't delete or freeze any bloatware app.
Then why I was able to do OTA update a while ago..
Lucky... that's the only mod I did and the update fails for me.

this update came out one week ago. if you are on stock ROM, you can update it. otherwise you need to restore to stock ROM to update and then root and install customized recovery. these process can keep your user apps and data.

You can always GET an OTA but you won´t be able to install it in some scenarios.
Your system partition has to be mostly untouched, but root and Xposed Framework won´t cause any problem. You can use stock or Philz Recovery.
Also got the update but the installation is failing due to unexpected changes to build.prop. I have removed xposed and anything else I can think of that may have changed the system partition but still no go.
Any ideas? Maybe someone could post their build.prop?
I'm also getting the update in The Netherlands. Bought my phone online amazon.de

Yes, you have the right version of firmware for this OTA, don´t know why it´s failing for you, there´s too much variables, it´s hard to tell.
As to where the file I posted comes from - it´s right from my phone. Until today morning I was on French 4.4.4, then I flashed the German 4.4.2 firmware to look if I could catch the OTA and it really came, I pulled it from my /cache and posted here. Why so sceptical? Apart from a different dialer GUI, there´s not much difference you can really feel on 4.4.4, basically there are just some bug fixes.

Perhaps you need to uninstall and remove the modules and the xposed from the system before updating. Xposed and the modules add / modify system files and other sources in the device. Make sure you unroot as the last step as well. Stock recovery is required to install the OTA successfully
