Hi newbie here, i just moved to cm7 gingerbread 2.3.5 courtesy of Mur4ik's guide everything is sexy looking and the performance is great but for some reason when try to enter "settings" i get this

has stopped unexpectedly.
please try again.
So far i havent found anything else that Force Closes just seems to be settings :S.
Immense forum btw, any help would be greatly appreciated.
just found out it has to force close when attempting to enter settings via any method and accessing widgets force closes aswell
REflash
You should wipe your data and flash the ROM again. If you have Clockworkmod Recovery, you can wipe dalvik cache and fix permissions.
Remember that wiping data will delete all existing user data on your internal memory. Backup if needed ^_^

I flashed cyanogen 5.0beta. It was working great.....then i went to compress cache in one of the new apps(can't remember the name) the phone reset itself about 3 times so I wiped it and restored it. Now it completely boots, but then I get a "force close" message that won't go away. If someone could help I would appreciate it.
When you wiped, did you reflash the google stuff and the cyan rom?
I tried wiping it and the re-flashing cyan but I still get the same messages. Thts the only rom I flashed
I mean after you wiped did you also flash the Google Add on supplied in Cyanogen's thread (http://www.mediafire.com/file/jmmzywtlnjd/gapps-passion-ERE27-2-signed.zip) along with the ROM after you wiped?
Also, what is force closing? Is it specific apps? If so, are they system apps are market/3rd party apps? Is it processes that are force closing?
I just wiped and reflashed cyan and then downloaded and flashed the google addon and the I rebooted just fine. now i want to see if i can restore. Plus the force close message was google startup wizard

Damn. Well at least it's fixed. Thanks for the help. I don't know why the google add on helped but it did.
So despite innumerable threads on this strange issue, I'm not seeing a definitive answer on how to fix the problem.
Clearing cache on "download manager" and "market" DOES NOT WORK!! I still get the white screen of death, followed by the friendly message..
I also CANNOT see anywhere in the manage application settings where I "clear the download history" or wh8ever....and really - I'm feeling like I might have to invest in a computer science major just to maintain a reliable, updateable phone!
PLEASE HELP, anybody...is there any fix to this other than factory resetting everything & reinstalling everything??

I also get this error message on my stock G2 every single time I download an update to an app I already have installed. once I clear the error message, the download and install always completes, but its annoying as all heck. can anyone confirm if master reset permanently resolves the issue? if it does id be willing to do it...
Primarily force closes happen when application permissions(or system data) either overlap or conflict... Hard reset will only resolve the issue if you stop installing whatever it is you have messed permissions up with... Boot into recovery and fix permissions and see if that helps... If not, hard reset and install apps individually to see if you can trace it..

I apologize, but that doesnt help me at all. this issue doesn't only happen with certain apps, it is literally 100% of apps that I experience this issue with. if I boot in to recovery mode, what permissions am I looking for?

Are the apps missing, are they there but won't open, do you get force closes? the more detailed you are, the more and faster responses you'll get.

it viberates one when i click to launch the app, then it viberates twice and says

What rom are you running? Did you try applying a theme on a rom that might not be compatible with your current rom?

I tried to change the battery icons on my new Arc, it didn't work and I was obliged to reflash the root image to get my phone back.
Everyhting looked working again but not the market.
It will FC everytime it download and install an app!
I tried to uninstall it via titanium backup then reinstall a new market apk but without success, still FCs
What should I do now?

did you delete your cache already ? (in recovery)

Try going to Settings/Applications/Manage Applications/ then Wipe Everything Associated with Google, Checking Services, Market, Market Updater, Uploader, etc. Either that or Reboot to Recovery and wipe Cache, DalvikCache!!

You must mean u8800. Are you running custom roms, do you have root, have you restored backup when changing rom? These can be reasons. If you are running custom rom, i'd reccomend you to take backups from apps, and the reflash the rom with all wipes.

You flashed a new ROM? If the case, make a Factory Reset and tell us. The other way is to apply an Backup.
