[Q]Camera problem in HTC mini - HD Mini General

Hey there I have a serious problem,
I've made a 24 minute video with the Camera, set some settings in the Camera settings like no preview and no limit recording time.
About the 22th minute the camera window just froze and the video stuck, however, the audio continue to be record. I could see the minutes of recording still advance on the right.
I stopped the video, and watch it on computer. Video was clear until the 22th minute, and then 2 minutes after that ,there was only sound, video froze on some point.
I have Official Rom 1.36
Sandisk 8gb class 6
WHAT CAN I DO?

Well, there're many things you can do.
1- does it have the problem everytime?
2- didn't you ever change the ROM you're using or Hard Reset?
3- Maybe (Not sure) change the SD you're recording.. but I see your SD is Good.

thanks for the replay
hmm,
1. it happened only twice so far.
2. hmm yeah I've done several times H.Reset, and no. didn't changed the Rom.
U think i should go non-official rom?
3. happened 2nd time on sandisk 16gb class 4(tought the base of the problem is in the SD-Card, well it's not)
maybe check another vendor?

ROTFL
I have had this problem before. You have to take out the MicroSD card and re-insert it then do a soft reset then all is good.
Same problem here!!
I've got the same problem. It seems to black out when I take photos in bright daylight or bright lights. Could be an software problem related to the metering / exposure. Taking out the MicroSD card doesn't help.

you have to choose "fine" and not "super fine " in the camera parameters

Well I did have a very ocassional problem with superfine setting and the old black picture problem. This thankfully is not a routine problem and I think it just happens if device gets short on memory. Since I moved virtually everything onto sd card and got an application to truly shut down running programmes it's never done it since - as I say it was only a sporadic problem anyway.

I have 27MB of free program memory fresh after a reset so I don't think that's quite a problem. Got a SanDisk Ultra II 2GB MicroSD card too. I've tried the Fine setting and it seems to work so far but I'm pretty annoyed I can't use SuperFine!
Go for the best!

Interesting, at the moment all I can say for sure is I had the problem and now it's gone, I had assumed a memory issue. Not necessarily amount of programme memory but perhaps cache size/fault.
Does yours not work on superfine when set to save to On-board, SD card or both?

Tested both, even the Extended ROM with no success. I've also increased the WM5 cache to 4MB so I'm pretty sure that isn't the problem either. Not to mention 41MB free Storage memory since everything's on the MicroSD card.
Anyone else experienced this problem?

Some folks at modaco with same problem. No sign of a standard solution though except one person found a hard reset and selective re-installing of progs. worked for him:

It feels more like a driver issue to me, or something similar. I installed CoolCamera 1.5b beta, when the normal capera ap takes black pics, I switch to CoolCamera, ake a pic, then switch back to the regular camera, and it seems to work ok again. Very weird I think.
I replied to a similar thread on thursday night saying that I had seen this problem once my TyTN had come back from repair. but then hadn't seen it for many weeks. Sure enough Friday morning, I was taking blank pictures again.
I also noticed that the camera application seems to crash when this happens. It no longer appears in the Running Programs list to shut down and when you hit the camera button it says cannot start camera application - application already in use or something. A soft reset fixed it....
At the moment I am unable to tell if this is a hardware or software issue... because it seems that if I open the keyboard.. then shut it "firmly" (i only did this out of frustration really) but the app started working again properly.
I don't think it's got anything to do with the settings (super-fine - fine etc.) I could take blank pictures an virtually all the settings.

Video Recording has stopped working - and causing other issues too

Hello -
(Please move this if not in the right forum)
It seems just recently I have been having issues recording video in any format.
I am using the Rooted .6 Stock FROYO ROM
Taking pictures is working just fine but when I try to open up the Camcorder it does some weird stuff:
1) After hitting record in the camcorder the time and flash option go away and just the record button is left on the screen - the phone becomes sluggish and takes time to get back to the home screen and then go stop the camera app
2) if it does start recording hitting stop then sends me to a black screen and then the phone becoms sluggish and I have to force stop the camera app
- Removing video files from the SD card seems to solve issue #1 and brings me to issue #2
a full wipe in recovery does not help - issue occurs as soon as phone is ready to use.
Any suggestions are welcome - and I am curious if anyone else is having this issue
Thanks
Mine is doing the exact same thing. I tried reinstalling the .6 update but that didn't fix the problem. I'm taking mine back to the Sprint store.
My 4G speeds suck on .6 but were awesome on .3 so i have another problem on top of the video recording.

I havn't tried that yet. I wasn't sure if I could flash back to .3
However it was happening on .3 also but I just assumed since it wasn't a final build that it would be fixed with .3
I think I got a bad install on .3

I see... this whole time I thought it was the netarchy kernel I flashed that caused it, so I guess I was wrong. Before this happened to me, I recall that I was messing around with the flash settings for video recording... I remember the last video I recorded was a video in 720p while I was toggling the LED light on/off. Then the next day I tried to record another 720p video and it just stopped working.
same here. I was able to fix it by reformatting the SD card.
My first thought after reading the details of the issue was a slow/faulty SD card.
Sounds like kauaiboymo may be on the right track.

If I format / Use a different SD Card
Video recording kind of works but when I try to end the recording the camcorder app freezes up - then after I have recorded a couple of videos the camcorder stops working again.
But I do have some interesting info to add:
Last night I flashed the 8/4 Nightly of CyanogenMod 6 that I had NAND Backed up - I wanted to flash the new RC2 Nightly dated 8/19 from last night
so when i flashed back to the 8/4 I tried the camcorder.. In CM6...
On the 8/4 the camcorder did the same thing ( Recorded some video choppily and then froze up when I hit stop)
I flashed the new nightly over it... and tried recording again
It works just fine....
Soo... I will let you guys know when I flash back to the stock rom if its fixed in there too now...
Flashed back to stock 2.2 and the problem still occurs but I have noticed something else that may be the cause..
When taking photos only one of my led flash seems to be working.
Maybe this is what is happening can any of you experiencing the same issue see if that is the case for you as well
sent from my HTC supersonic
Went to the sprint store tonight
They are ordering me a "refurb" but we will see what actually shows up.
Hope it doesn't have froyo
Same exact issue here.
What happens is that after you open the camcorder (or open the camera and switch to video), even if you dont record any videos, /system/bin/mediaserver crashes and begins using 100% of the CPU, causing extreme sluggishness until you reboot the phone.
This bug report seems to match the issue:
http://code.google.com/p/0xdroid/issues/detail?id=137
I fixed this on my phone.
A few days prior I had edited /system/build.prop and changed:
"media.stagefright.enable-player" to "false"
This seems to be what caused the problem, because once I set this back to "true" and rebooted everything was working again.

[Q] Camera won't save first picture [SOLVED]

Here is my problem,
it all started when I switched form a 2 GB sd card to a 16 GB SDHC card.
At first i didn't even notice, but then i realized that when i open the camera and snap a photo, it plays the little animation minimizing the picture to the left bottom corner indicating that the picture is saved. Then i take another one...
Later i go to the gallery, and the first picture i took isn't there, but the second, third, fourth ....are there.
This happens when i don't use the camera for a few hours, and then turn it on. It just won't save the first picture. Its like it doesn't mount the sdcard in time for the first picture. I have no idea what's going on, and i missed some awesome pictures. Please help.
I am using JBoogie3 Blurry Ginger based on (2.3.4)Defy+
Edit: the problem has been solved, you just have to put CM7 on your phone
Perhaps quick reformat the 16 GB SDHC card would do the trick..
Backup first.
That was the first thing i tried, and no luck. I also tried the infamous hp usb disk storage format tool.
I also tried to clean the camera cache... no luck.
Cleared dalvik cache... had big hopes on this... and yes, it works, but it worked for a day or two, then reverted back to its "won't take first picture" self.
Tried fixing permissions... works, but just like above, only for a day or two
I am out of ideas, and i'll probably move to another rom, maybe the problem will go away.

Sounds like a class 10 card, it will never work, buy a class 6 for a better chance or a class 4 to make 100% sure.
FUUUUUUU!!!!!! it is a class 10 card, i figured faster is better

Have a search about "mmcfix", the Defy has a problem with sd cards due to a malfunctioning kernel module. This is fixed in CM7, but may not be for your ROM. Ask your Dev if he has included it or not

Thanks for the info i'll keep that in mind, but i already switched to MS2Ginger 2.0
It's been a few days now, and it works perfectly, this rom is just amazing, especially the 720p stock camera recording, just love it.
Thanks for all the suggestions, hopefully this will be the end of this problem.
Final answer - CM7
Unfortunately, MS2Ginger 2.0 filed to save images about a week from the day of installation. And I had such high hopes.
After that I tried almost every MMCfix, patch, modules, trick and hack to try to achieve a normal working sd card, but they all ended in failure.
Since CM7 already has the mmcfix pre-installed, it was my last hope.
And it works. Been using it about a month now, and its still snapping and saving pictures like a boss.
So if you own a sd class 10 card, and have a defy, cm7 is your savior.

I tried using the zip files (I think I found 3 different versions), then applied them using custom recovery.
I also tried to put the required modules in manually, just copying the files in there right place, and I remember that you had to edit a file, so the modules can load at start up.

[Q] Unlocking screen

Hi,
I am having a problem unlocking my screen. I Have used several different roms: MCCM HD v6, MccMBoxmaX+GS+V+11, Jaguaralani Gamers Edition, NexusHD2-ICS-CM9-SD_v1.3, HTC sensation XL many others and currently the .... rom. With the latter the problem doesn't occur as often as with the others but it still prevais.
So here is the issue: When trying to unlock the screen (usually pushing the end call button) the screen does sometimes not turn on. The lights underneath the buttons do lid up as well as the backlight but the screen stays off.
If there is already a solution for this problem on the forum, I apologies but the forum is(thankfully) rather vast.
Many thanks for your support and keep up the good work!
Time Delay
In many of the ROMs there is a user definable setting for delay and timeout betwen screen ON and OFF with a default setting of 5 sec. Change it to "immediate" and you should be able to unlock the screen with just a click. Hope that helps.

Yeah the option is only on CM7 builds as far as I know (but I may be wrong, haven't used anything else in a while) and it shouldn't affect anything. This problem is common within SD builds, I constantly experienced it, I wouldn't worry about it. I think the only thing you can do is to wait at least 3 seconds between locking and unlocking the screen otherwise it probably won't turn on. If you are experiencing issues where you cannot turn the screen back on until you reboot, then that is odd. That's nicknamed the Screen Of Death and as far as I know that was entirely fixed on SD builds now
I had this problem too when using an app that was on SD card or when listening to music.
Format your SD to ffat32 with 32k or change SD
That solved the issue for me

I used another SD card and formatted it. And for some reason it works fine now. The strange thing though is the current SD card is only class 2 (4GB) and the 'slow' SD card was class 6(16GB)

Since the August update I have observed that the Gallery hangs very often and the pics dont show up immediately. Also the phone in general lags while unlocking. Earlier i used to think its because of the update. But whenever i remove the sd card it works fine. I am using a 64 GB Sandisk 80 mbps class 10 card. Could it be because of the card? Dont wanna spend another 1600 Rs for a card only to find that the problem isnt solved .
Should i try using Samsung card?

Are you running stock rom? Running xposed with a lot of modules? I read about the latest aod update gave some users lag. But I don't know the extend of it.

I forgot to precise it is SM-G935FD. I suspected OTA updates at first and I tried factory resetting the Stock ROM through stock recovey multiple times but the lag reappears either immediately or after a few days (without installing new apps). I then decided to root it and flash superman ROM latest version (with SupeSU, Xposed and magisk and with SuperKernel), it got fixed and then for whatever reason it reappeared again. Now I've tried clean installing the same ROM and following the same steps without any luck.
Hello there,
So I've got some updates on this lag that may help others :
-First, it doesn't matter if you're on stock or on custom ROM.
-It has nothing to do with SD cards or LTE network.
-A simple reboot or powering off/on makes the lag disappear momentarily.
-A clean falsh (with smart switch) can help but doesn't make the problem go away indefinitely, I'm not sure why. It still happens after that but a lot less frequently.
-I've narrowed down the bug to Google play Services, anything that it has permissions to access can cause the bug to reappear, installing apps, downloading contents through apps, making a phone call and sometimes taking a picture/deleting it... Etc.
-disabling Auto-updates in Play Store, proved rather helpful.
-Finally, I think that Samsung will fix this lag, intentionally or not, with the Nougat update since it is apparently a compatiblity issue with the latest Google play services updates.
In my experience, doing a clean flash, disabling Auto-updates both in Settings and Play Store makes the lag less frequent. Powering off/on solves it when it does occur occasionally.
Same error
I am also facing the same problem after upgrading to Android N, but I have not find any solution yet.
