Back Button Unresponsiveness SOLVED! :) - Galaxy S II General

Hi guys. Just got the SII two week ago. I thought I was imagining things but the back button was a bit unresponsive. Tried Googling it and I stumbled upon a site talking about back button problems for the first Galaxy S. It recommended to type in *#*#2663#*#* and it brought out a touch screen version menu. Clicked update on both buttons, reboot, and it fixed my problem! Amazing!
I'd like to ask though if there are other update hardware firmware commands like this for the Galaxy S II? It's strange that firmware updates for the hardware aren't automatically performed along with the software updates.
P.S.
The update changed my phone's "Part's Touch key FW version" from 0x4 to 0x7 and it solved my back button unresponsiveness.

Just tried this. Will see if its helps.
Thanks

Do you know if this solution improves responsiveness of the MENU button as well? I posted a thread here earlier describing what I thought was one small issue on my S2: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=17084207
I noticed a decreased sensitivity in both the soft touch buttons (Menu & Back) as opposed to the sensitivity on the actual touchscreen area. I just thought it was strange. Maybe you had the same scenario?

Thanks for the tip, but mine stays same after the update, 0x4 for the touch key version and 0x16 TSP FW version. I think the updated version depends on the firmware, as I am on KF3, an older build 0x4 is the upper limit
Also I've noticed that only inputting *#2663# works, no need to type that much
Regards.

I think the menu button isn't responsive because if the software itself?
Try rebooting the phone after the update. You might see your firmware version change like I did.

I also got that same update on KG3.

I tried this (on O2's stock XWKF3). Before, it was:
Phone's Touch key FW version: 0x4
Part's Touch key FW version: 0x7
Now, it is:
Phone's Touch key FW version: 0x4
Part's Touch key FW version: 0xff
Could 0xff indicate a problem?

I'm on KG3. Before the update it was Phone's...: 0x4 and Part's...:0x7 .
Now it is Phone's...:0x4 and Part's...: 0x3 !!
What could this possibly mean? A downgrade??

No change after updating on kf6. Only became a problem after I applied a screen protector, but I don't want to scratch it, so I'm leaving it on. Switching to a kg3 based rom now. Lets see if that does anything

Did you tried an hard-reset or factory wipe ? this should fix things but you will loose settings, apps and other data.
how to root SGS after upgrade?? nw I hv 3e recovery instead of 2e recovery , Can someone post a tutorial or steps how to root and also which is the best lag fix for 2.2 need one asap as the phones lags too much almost unusable!!
How is the browser with flash set to on demand?
Does it lag like xwjp6?
I thought they would base it off xwJPA.
xwJP6 is very unstable...
@gkg, you can search for recovery 2e in the development section and get it done from there.

Lags less after factory reset, but you loose all your application and its data which sucks. Battery performance has improved, at least it seems like.

Personally I think Kies is a safer way to update...as if anything does go wrong with the updating process...kies can always put your phone back to the emergency firmware image. (it happened to me with my galaxy tab 10.1)

i'm not getting updates, should I go for kies?
Anyone know if 2.3.6 KKA will get this update officially? I checked on OTA and Kies, nothing!
I am guessing that the 17MB update the OP is talking about is the XXKL3 2.3.6 update.

Could you please take a screenshot of your "About Phone" screen? Is you phone currently on KL3? I am also in India & I have no updates available. I had updated to KL3 using Kies when it initially came out. I am assuming you did not.

[Q] Straight Talk issues after ICS update

Hi all,
So, I finally got the ICS update via Kies (not OTA, through USB) 3 days ago. Since then, my internet speeds seem to have tanked I did the factory reset twice, and tried both APN settings, the one that came with ST and the one that has been posted here (one for internet and one for MMS). Prior to the update, I could easily get 4-6mb down and 1.5mb up; now it's hardly 1-2mb down and not even 1mb up. Did I screw something up?
BTW, I'm running stock, unrooted, ICS 4.0.3
Baseboard: N7000XXLPT
Kernel: 3.0.15-N7000XXLQ2-CL605927
Build: IML74K.XXLQ2
Has anybody else experienced the same thing? Any help is greatly appreciated!
Help a noob, please
Hi, I'm a beginner also.
Does anyone know if I have to revert back to stock GB before I connect to Kies for the ICS update?
Most importantly, can I revert back to Stock GB if I don't like this update? (I would PC Odin Stock GB ROM, zergrush for root).
Sorry I couldn't answer the question above, but I would gladly try out the ICS update if my above two questions can be answered. I just want to be safe before I proceeded.
I was on ICS for a brief moment and reverted because of well documented bricking risk. My guess is your apn's where off a bit, or maybe the modem needs to be switched.
But thats the least of your worries. Because you did a reset you may have damaged your eMMC .... that's the bug.
For now you need to get a safe kernel on there.
1. root your ICS
2. mobile odin a SAFE kernel
DO NOT WIPE AGAIN until....

Wow, I'm really shocked. This is ICS Update over Kies from Samsung. Not a leaked ICS ROM he got from a friend.
I am in disbelief that Samsung would allow us to receive this bug over their official Kies method.
Is this verified? The ICS that Samsung gives over Kies also has the eMMC bug?
---
Sorry, just did a quick XDA search, I couldn't find a definitive answer that the ICS Update via Kies from Samsung has eMMC bug. But they're all saying STOCK or Custom ICS ROM, DO NOT WIPE OR FACTORY RESET.
---
Just did a more extensive eMMC search. From this post I found this note.
All ICS official releases for the Samsung Galaxy Note (GT-N7000) as of late May 2012 - This includes XXLPY, ZSLPF, and DXLP9, and future kernels should be assumed affected until further notice.
To my understanding is, Samsung is shipping out updates that will brick your phone. WTF?!?!
---
Find another post regarding DO NOT WIPE
Please do NOT use Wipe Data/Factory Reset. It is the main difference between first and 2nd round of testing and is the current suspect
My newest issue seems to be unable to send a text message now! WTF? I would have dealt with slower data until I figured out how to go about fixing my damaged eMMC (if it's damaged, that is). Good grief!

That happens after your phone re registers on Samsung servers.
It also happened on ICS update !

Oops, Then you might have to wait for few more hours before it pops into Kies. This update installation time is taking more time than it took to install ICS.
Hope the EMMC bug is gone.

I never had the brick issue in spite of wiping the device multiple times on custom aswell as stock roms.
I was driving on my way to work in the morning. I saw the update arrows in the notification as i have kept auto update on.... It had already downloaded 4 MB but I went ahead an cancelled as I wasnt sure if the update was going to remove root or no !!

Could be two reason.
1. You may be using a different CSC other than "INU"
2. In the Software Update section, "WiFi only" is checked and you are using Mobile Data connected.
I had "WiFi only" unchecked and it popped up
