Hi guys
I was wondering if anyone have found any fix/settings for the lagging when recording with our omnia 7 in 720p mode? It doesn't seem to lag with other devices (have tried some LG E900s). Also haven't heard that any HTC devices should suffer from this.
Sorry if this have been brought up already but I haven't been able to find a thread regarding this.
Thanks

Also my Omnia 7 lags when records video in HD. It lags with NoDo and Mango too...
I once heard that a new firmware could fix that issue. Maybe it will be fixed in a future update.
Mine lags too recording in HD but hope it's solved with future updates. I don't know what's going on with Samsung, the device is mature enough to have these little problems solved already.
Me too have this problem. I hope they will fix this issue. It really sucks, for me 720p is really unusable

It isn't so bad for me, in fact I consider it a small glitch and I can still use it no problem but we're talking about a 1st class Samsung mobile and they have had time enough to solve it.
Software: Windows ® Phone 7

SW 2424.11.2.2
HW 0.0.0.800

SOC 0.36.2.0
All fine here. Running Mango RTM. Never tried it on NoDo. But worked fine to me in mango beta 1 and mango rtm
ROM : I8700_XEN_I8700XENJK1
Works fine for me too in Mango RTM (never tried on NoDo)
Weird how it only affects some devices..could this mean possibly different parts in certain models?
I dunno. I'm new to this stuff.
mine is OK, too.. no lags at all.. during recording there is lag, but not at playback.
and what i noticed, too, is, that when you upload the hd videos to youtube, its not as smooth as on the phone. i think youtube's converts the video and skips frames and make it laggy.
i'm on mango rtm with newest firmware from samfirmware.

Hi guys!
I'm totally new to this forum and I apologize if this issue has been discussed/explained earlier, but here goes:
I recently purchased a new HTC P3600/Trinity , as I have been using Qtek/HTC pocketpc's the last years and have been very satisfied with them. One of the main reasons I bought Trinity was because of the 400mhz Samsung CPU which I thought would be fairly faster than the 200mhz TI CPU on my previous S200. But, what I don't understand is that, when I try to for example play NES games with PocketNES or PocketNester on the Trinity, the emulation runs sooo slow, even with sound disabled. On my S100 and S200, NES emulation was flawless with sound enabled. I have also noticed some other slowdowns when running apps/games as well. Why is this? I do hope this is a bug that can be fixed somehow with a hack/tweak or a rom upgrade.
I am also wondering if there is, per date, any overclocking apps that work with the Samsung 400mhz CPU?
Any help/comments appreciated, thanks!
- Stian
CPU MHz isn't the sole determinant for the overall application performance. I bet you are not running number crunching application in your Trinity, don't you?
Playing games inevitably involves the graphics chip, in Trinity's case - the ATI Imageon chip, which unfortunately is not too well supported by these apps. You don't get decent playback of video until recently.
And speaking about overclock - I still don't see any proper app to really overclock that Samsung CPU....
Alright thanks for the input! I really thought that the previous HTC devices had sort of the same graphics chip. I sure hope there will be software enhanced for the ati chip in the future though. More comments appreciated as well!
Its mainly because of the stupid ATI Accelerator
Please take a look at a wiki. Its a known issue , whenever you play a game (that uses stylus input) , you'll notice that fps drops dramatically but then if you just use the buttons , it works fine..I am not sure why or what. But it seems that ATI Graphics chip is the culprit
Yeah, I've heard about the thing with the touchscreen slowing it down. But even if I'm not even close to using the touch screen, it's already slow..

so has there been any fix for this? i know that wm6 certainly doesn't make the situation better.
More comments on this issue is greatly appreciated.. As far as I have experience by now.. Every game and/or application I use that requires holding the stylus to the touchscreen suffers from major slowdowns. . I will definitely send an e-mail to HTC complaining about this issue and I hope that others will do the same. They should really fix this issue in the next ROM release ..

You can try XCPUScalar to overclock your device (paid software) http://www.immiersoft.com/, tried it on mine (HTC P3600). Works.
Good luck

I haven't used any NES emulators on Trinity - but does it involves the touch screen at all?
If you are talking about raw video performance, I guess those software like emulators will sooner or later support the ATI video chip, which would then provide better video speed.
But I doubt there's any fix from HTC regarding the stylus performance hit problem.
Besides the problem with the touchscreen...have you tried to upgrade to WM 6?
Mine is much faster since the upgrade.

Really?
Is it stable and all with the WM6 upgrade? I would prefer a Norwegian WM6 rom though, considering the norwegian special letters and all .. I'll might upgrade to WM6 then, can anyone else confirm this?

What version are you using. According to the developer Samsung support is on his "to do" list and not yet implemented.

I believe the android.cab is like an autoboot from winmo (I personally didn't install it) for those that may not have one. As for the rest of the rom, well I understand your caution, but as with anything, no one is forcing you to install it. There is an inherent risk with ANY rom on this forum. Using caution is wise, so what I did is I compared the files to other roms I have used and saw that they matched up, I have installed it (with the attached 2gb image), it's running now, you have to select the English language, unless you understand either of the other 2 Chinese languages available. From there the setup was the same as the other HD roms. Testing it now, will report results later. So far so good...
Hi, have you asked about GPC before posting this?
OMG the camera quality compared to all other builds i used before is AMAZING !
After turning off the handwriting in options i think it is my new daily Android.
And the camcorder seems to record in 720p but we are not able to playback...

I concure about to put it through its passes. i decided to test this build just for the 720P recording...wanted to see if it was indeed working. and for sure it is. as well the cam pic quality is very good. have not tested sound quality as of yet. waiting for the build to do a full update from the market before i start really testing it out...first impressions are good...will report back later today after more use.
Just tried this build and it's looking VERY promising. i tried the other Desire HD build with the camera fix but the camcorder still wasn't working on it and for some reason every time i tried to get into the market it would force close. as for the android cab..yeah,i wasn't sure what that was so i just thru it into the android folder along with the media folder.i tried the camcorder and it's working.it also played back my video. i know some were sayn that they didn't have playback on their camcorder. i may not go back to any other android build. i think i found my holly grail of android builds !
Just to clarify, this can record at 1280x720 but can't play it back?
Hi,
My Desire HD updated itself to Android 2.3.3 a few days ago and now it plays video at a terrible quality, with all kinds of mpeg artifacts. Both the stock video player and Vplayer do it. I haven't seen this issue mentioned in any of the threads about the update on this forum.
Has anyone else noticed this? Is there anything I can do about it?
Thanks in advance...
I dont think theres much you can do about it with the stock ROM apart from a factory reset.
Other than that I would highly recommend rooting and installing a custom ROM. I just did it a few days ago and I'm the last person that would tinker about with expensive electronics. Very easy to do and very safe as long as you know what you are doing. I made myself a guide combining many other guides on XDA which I can post for you if you want.

Nope, i haven't noticed it.
Since the Gingerbread update my DHD has been playing videos better than it ever did on froyo.
Only thing i can suggest is a factory reset, or clear the data for the programs you're running the videos with.

there is no problem in mine,
do factory reset
When did yours update? Was it an Orange update, or have you rooted or something else?
Thanks everyone for your helpful replies. Fortunately, the issue seems to have disappeared.
It's weird because it happened persistently with both the stock video player and a 3rd party one (vplayer), with videos that showed perfectly before, and soft resetting initially didn't help, and it was really bad -- about the worst mpeg artifacts I've ever seen!
So I guess all's well that ends well, although I'm still slightly baffled.
For the record, I'm on the Dutch stock HTC ROM, unrooted.
@raze559: If this issue hadn't resolved itself I might have considered a custom ROM. I'll probably try one some day, but it's hard to find good and simple info among all the different options. Especially since I'm a bit late to the Android party after years with Windows Mobile. So yeah, your guide sounds like it could be very useful for a lot of people.
First of all, sorry for my english.
I think there's a GPU driver problem. There's a lot of FC with a lot of games.
Okay, it could be the developer but why just the SGS2 have this problem?
The games:
Defensoid
HexDefense (now it's incompatible with SGS2 on the Market because of the problems)
Cut the Rope (when using rotating wheels in gift box)
Any ideas?
EDIT:
Just recieved an e-mail from the HexDefense developer. And yes, I thought right, there's a lot of bugs in the Galaxy S Gingerbread update and there's a lot of bug in the SGS II Gingerbread sw. So Samsung did it again. I selled my SGS, I've buyed an SGS2 but maybe this is the last time I buyed from Samsung. The hardware is good, but the SW is a crap again and again.
"Unfortunately, you're right - the game crashes a lot on the Galaxy S2. It used to work fine, but they introduced Gingerbread and the Gingerbread update for the S2 added a few major bugs. Hence, we've stopped selling it for that phone.
I'm working to find workarounds for the bugs that have been introduced in the Gingerbread update and hopefully we can get it working on the S2 again soon. You're definitely right- a lot of people use the S2!
Thanks, I'll keep you posted,
- Ben Gotow

Try playing with sound off, it might not be gpu related as other games also crash when sound is on.
You should be right. They f.cked up the sound driver. I turn off the sound and music and all games I mentioned is just works. But it's a shame on Samsung and they have to solved this problem. It's not a solution that playing w/o sound on the high-end phone. Anyway thank you!

ZeptoLab confirmed too:
Thank you for informing us about the problem!
We have received several similar reports from the Samsung Galaxy S2
owners, and we are doing our best to fix this issue in the upcoming update.
At the moment you can overcome this problem by turning the game sounds OFF
in the main menu of the game.

Hi,
Since upgrading to 4.4 I'm experiencing stutter/jitter on YouTube videos.
I've tried factory wiping the device and it's the same, I've flashed the SinLessROM and it's the same. Only 4.3 didn't have the issue.
Is anyone else experienced this and is there a solution??
Thanks!
EDIT:
I would like to gather some data of units having/not having this issue respectively to see if I can isolate the cause:
If possible, please can you supply the following information:
1) How you upgraded to 4.4 (OTA, sideload, custom build of official 4.4. ROM, etc)
2) Are you using stock/custom kernel (if custom, which one?)
3) If you factory reset/wiped at any stage
4) Version of YouTube app
5) Link to an HD YouTube video that you can play without any stutter (it may be I/we are just choosing 'bad' videos)
I was using this video for testing and get the stutter on the device, so fi you can play this video as well and report back that would be great: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6v2L2UGZJAM
Thanks guys!
Just checked and mine seems to not be as smooth as it was before as well.
Somewhat related, I have the LG Nexus 7 phone with everything stock on it and the YouTube app despite buffering the video properly, still plays back the video a bit stuttery. I'm running the KitKat OS on it as well. The same videos play fine using the browser but the quality isn't as good (pixelization), despite it being HQ. They also play fine using Freedi YT player at the same quality as the app.
I thought I was the only one until I saw this thread! Pretty sloppy work from Google.
It's running great for me. I have ART enabled, give that a try and see it the problem persists.
Mmm I tried that too but it's still the same. Looking around a bit more people seem to have had issues with some versions of the YouTube app doing this in the past. What version do you have may I ask??
Are other video players effected as well?
Same problem here
Just finished updating to 4.4 Kit Kat. Fired up YouTube and noticed jittery/frames issue before seeing this thread. It's not a huge problem but it's definitely not as smooth prior to update. Warning for heavy youtube users maybe wait out on updating? It's only a little annoying short second jitters here and there.
My youtube is up to date with latest version installed. Lets hope youtube releases an update for Kit Kat OS.
My overall first impressions with Kit Kat so far is that it does feel snappier with the app drawer scrolling, multi-task switcher and touchscreen responsiveness. I'm a heavy Clash Of Clans player so I instantly knew and feel the difference right away.
I have an Ipad Air, Ipad mini (1st gen) and this nexus 7. I'm very happy with the touchscreen pinch to zoom improvement in this update. The screen definitely feels close to par with the ipad screens now. Not a fan boy or anything because I enjoy both iOS and Android!

If you're lucky enough not to be having any issues, can you post the following information so I can see if I can find the root cause of the 'problem'?

Thanks very much to anyone that can help with this!

Yes that's fine, I live in Holland so even the mediocre connection I have is 60mbps Down / 6mbps Up - it's not a buffering type of stutter but more of an issue with the decoding and rendering of the video. Like a driver is not optimised correctly or there is a memory bottleneck.

Sorry for the question, but english it´s not my mother tongue(from Spain). When you say sttuter, you mean in image & sound, image only or sound only?

My fault, I should have said! It is actually just the video that stutters for me. The audio plays perfectly. It just jitters slightly with the video, like it 'sticks' briefly especially during panning shots.
