Attempting to create Goldcard - G1 General

Unfortunately the guides that I have seen dictate that you must use revskills.de which it out of commission.
Are there any alternatives to the QMAT?

are you using this guide?

I just went to http://psas.revskills.de/?q=goldcard
and it opens fine for me.

Right, but I am running into trouble with the Hex Editor. Even though my physical disk is no read only I am stuck with the media being write protected.

If you use the program in my link you don't need a Hex Editor.
The only thing that I can think of is that the little switch on the sd card is in the write protect position. Try sliding it the other way.

a thing that make me become so so bad, the size of files doesn't match with the used area on the card, what kind of trouble is this? they erased my files but the space didn't change..
is there any idea to get my files back before i'm goin' to format it?
how to avoid it in the future?
thx for read it..
The only way to avoid it is to write protect the memory card by moving the slider switch to lock position.
slider switch...
thank's for ur answer, it migth be useful, but can you point the position of the slider? whether it's.on the pda or on memory? l'm using visipro mmc 256mb, n' i don't see any slider on lt.

Yes, but how? I have it on my PPC and when I click it, it says: "There is no applicationassociated with SD_FIX (working)". Run the application first then open the file from within the application".

Sorry, I forgot to advise you to install Registry Editor Program on your PPC first. (e.g. PHM Reg edit)
hi,
it's quite good, i alo thought that but i had installed "regeditce" prog so the file doesn't associate .
I'd installed the PHM as u mentioned above and ran the SD_fix but it didn't react (install or import..ect), it just opened the PHM program. Hence, i dont know whether it's imported to the registry or not now i'm waiting and hope the problem will be solved.
Thank you all
Unfortunately, it doesn't work well, after running that file, i installed two programs on storage card (HandMap and E-dictionary). Then I tried to soft reset and my MMc card was erased. oh, what can i do now ?

Where is the SD_fix.reg file
Hi,
How can I get the SD_fix.reg file? Thanks
hi,
the file is above
I think that the .reg file is exported form a key in REGISTRY, but when i run it, it isn't imported to the defined key exactly so the card is still erased
Help me, thanks 'coz i like the 4.01.16 of T-Mobile
hi all,
Let use "Resco registry" to import SD_fix to Registry. It's okay now

Hi guys,
How can I change Quick links from down bar from my Touch Cruise? By default there is calendar and contacts and i would like replace calendar with Action Screen.
use this... should do the trick
thanks, I will try that
I have a Samsung i760. I have tried all sorts of programs including this one without any luck. Is it possible that Samsung has locked the phone that good that I am not able to change the bottom buttons????
Anyone have any idea. I tried to extract the softkey.exe file from the rom. I got it to my computer but am unable to disassemble the .exe file due to it not being a Windows32 file?????
I am completely stuck. Any input would be great.

Maybe this could help:
http://www.pocketpctweaks.com/pocketpc_tweaks/change_softkey_buttons
Yes, now it is as supposed, thanks!!
Nope doesn't work. Neither the download or the website faq. I tried everything. For some reason Samsung or Verizon had really put a good lock on this right button. I am able to change the left button but not the right.
Im going to keep tinkering with it and hopefully.

Help for a first time tweaker?

Hi everyone
I really want to start tweaking things on my new HD2 but am falling over at the first couple hurdles. For me it seems that the core things to know are and that I'm having problems with are how to:
'Back up the phone (ROM and data)'
- I've tried using 'Dump My Phone' to backup (dump) my mobile in case I wreck the phone with my registry tweaks. Unfortunately the backup won't work. I copy the whole folder, which includes the .cab, .bat and .dll files into a folder on my device. Then I run the .cab file (installs successfully) and finally 'try' to run Partition Addresses.bat. This is where it fails (error: There is no application with 'Partition Addresses'. Run the application first, then open this file from within the application). Does anyone know what I should do or can suggest a different free prog along with a simple guide? I would really appreciate it!
'Launch the Run command and execute'
- I'm used to using it on Windows XP/ 7 but can't find it on the phone. Could someone post the path to the 'Run cmd' so that I can launch and use it?
'Edit the registry'
-(solved - I think) Downloaded Total Commander from one of the threads in the forum. Ran the .cab, opened the prog. Eventually found that the registry is within \\Plugins.
I'd really appreciate any help/ pointers that anyone can provide and I'm sure other future newbies would too.
Thanks very much
Before replying pls keep in mind that I'm a total n00b with all the tweaking so I need really clear step-by-step adivce if possible (hopefully will help others too).
1 - Not easy, really really not easy - certainly not just a program to do it.
far simpler to look in the 'official roms' thread in the rom development section and find a copy of your stock rom to use as a backup.
Heres a starter link to give you an idea what is involved.
Dump Rom
2 - 'Launch the Run command and execute', , erm, not sure what you mean, , but if you mean how to run commands at a command prompt in windows 7, press start, type cmd in the box at the bottom left of the start menu, and voila
If you mean run it on the phone there is no cmd prompt.
3 - Total commander is good for on the phone, for editing via the PC grab CeRegistryEditor, brilliant and farrrr easier than doing it through the phone.
Thanks samsamuel for your quick reply (damn replies are fast in this forum!)
- if backup is that tough then I guess, I'll just have to go the route you suggested. I was hoping to have a way to backup (if I make many registry tweaks and the last one screws it up then it would be great if I could just fall back on the backup instead of having to do all the tweaks again due to using a stock or forum ROM)
- yeah I meant run cmd from in the phone (one of the guides on backing up the phone mentioned it (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=427507) or did I totally not get what was meant
-I like the sound of tweaking the phone registry from the the desktop PC although Total Commander seems quite easy
Thanks again
for backing up the phone to restore to the same rom after a hard re set, lots off people swear by spb backup, though you can have issues if you try to restore a backup to a new rom.

can use it to export/backup reg keys too. great software.
samsamuel, I just saw that the link u provided to 'dump ROM' guide is the one that I meant, which seems to require using the run cmd in the mobile. it states, "Run (copy paste):
“pdocread.exe -l” (it’s the letter L not a 1)".
Any idea how to do that part. if so then I can give it a go.
interestingly,in the first step of the guide it stages to change the policy value to 1 but that's already done on my phone.

Bypass "align screen"

I have uppgraded my IPAQ 614C.
ANd when booting, it demands that I must align my screen.
This continues whatever I do.
If you mean that it keeps asking you to align your screen over and over again, its because you're not giving it accurate enough results. Keep doing it, it'll work
Create empty file on SD card called WELCOME.NOT
if device is detected by activesync create the same WELCOME.NOT empty file and copy it to root of device.
still have the problem? let me know. I have a program, I'd have to search for it in my external hdd. But it'll fix it for you.
had that problem on samsung omnia!! the biggest POS of all phones.
thanks

Just what he says... NOthing more nothing less.
There is a registry setting that lets you change the degree of accuracy.
Forgot what it was though. I used it when part of my touchscreen broke
Since this thread comes up first in the Google search results, I thought I've give a quick summary of the ways to bypass the screen alignment:
1. Keep aligning; for some, the process may stop. For me even after 20 tries, it's till going.
2. As advised in this thread, connect to the Pocket PC using ActiveSync, Explore the device, then delete Windows\Startup\Welcome
3. Create an empty file called "welcome.not" on the SD card, or in the root directory of thedevice.
4. Installed Code Factory Remote Alignment. As far as I know, they are out of business, and the only copy of that software that I could locate has been uploaded to this thread. This is the only method that has worked for me, but obviously it requires a computer connected to the phone.

Finnish layout for USB keyboards

First of all, I'm sorry if this is in wrong forum (wasn't sure if I should put this in development or not.)
Thanks to elouch for pointing out the file to be edited.
So, I edited the character layout file to get USB keyboards to work the same way as Finnish (maybe Swedish too?) ones. ä, ö, å all work, there are some special characters that aren't working yet, due to my laziness.
It should be clear that you need root to replace the file (either with root explorer, or adb/qtadb), should backup the file prior to replacing, and that I CANNOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR ANYTHING GOING WRONG.
Also I'm not sure if this was the right way to do it, but I haven't noticed any problems/oddities with Thumb Keyboard after editing the file.
Now with that said, grab the download, comment, complain about the keys not working so they can be fixed (at some point).
Just remove .txt from the filename and put the file to /system/usr/keychars/Generic.kcm and afterwards plugin a USB keyboard and try it out.

Thanks for posting this. Should work with my Swedish keyboards as well.
Do you think you could do a greek one, too?
Not really soon, because I'm not familiar with Greek alphabet/keyboard layout and in a few days I'm off to vacation....to Greece, lol
Hi Salleq, i`m trying to port italian layout but, after modifyed the .kcm as you, nothing it`s changed.
i`ve tried your file and it`s work great, so i don`t know what i`m wrong.
have you used same particular tool to modify the file?

Fantastic job you did there, salleq.
Since I'm from Denmark, I would love to be able to use the Danish æøå. I have been looking in your kcm-file file, but I can't figure out what you did to make it work with the Finnish/Swedish characters.
Is it possible you could point me in the right direction. I have already made some changes to some of the other keys, to match my keyboard. Just can't find æøå anywhere.
Thanks in advance.
>>> Update: I figured out, what I was doing wrong. I didn't see you was using Unicode character codes. Easy to fix the keyboard. LOVE my ÆØÅ <<<

Hi and thanks for sharing this.
I have problems getting it to work. I copied the file to /system/usr/keychars/Generic.kcm but, even after reboot, I dont get any åäö with external keyboard.
Tried both with an ordinary usb keyboard and a targus bt keybord.
Is there something I have missed? A setting somewhere?
I copied the file both from QtAdb and from a shell on the pad.
The pad is rooted.
Android 3.01
The onscreen keybord is set to swedish and working.

Hi,
Yes. The permission is set to -rw-r--r--, a chmod 644.
I can't understand why it does not take effect.
I copied the finnish Generic.kcm to qwerty.kcm just in case.
No change.
I even tried to replace the Virtual.kcm but then the terminal emulator crashed when i tried to use external keyboard, so it looks like the os ignores the Generic.kcm

The best way to see what's going wrong is to go on terminal, type ''su'' press enter, and the type ''logcat'', after that plug the usb receiver or keyboard. If an error with the Generic.kcm occour then with logcat you are able to see the code line of the error and fix it...

Got it to work.
I had to remove KEYBOARD_LESS entry and all the gamepad buttons stuff at the end of the file. also moved < and > to alt-, and alt-. since that button don't have an to me known keycode.
But now it works at an usable level.
Is there a tool that can be used to find the keycodes, like xev in "ordinare" linux?
I still need to find the codes for my Targus bt-keyboard, which has an Apple layout.
Thanks for the help!!

Hi, I am looking for the same thing to my Xoom, and Targus keyboard
Found this tool that gives you the keyboard codes, I tried it and it works as far as I can tell
Hmmm.... I am not allowed to post external links...
But if you google: keytest.apk
it will be your first hit
I have not gotten further yet in making my own file, if you solve it I would love a PM
Here is Czech layout.
Works fine with localized Apple BT keyboard nad Iconia A500/3.1.
Should this work on ics roms also? have been fighting with this all morning and cannot get it to work. I can copy it to right place and so on, also corrected permissions but still no go. Any ideas?
I tried it at some point with an ICS rom but like you said, I couldn't get it to work. I remember googling about it some time ago but couldn't find what files are changed and used now.
It's not really a deal breaker for me, I'm not actually using an external keyboard but it was fun to test and get native keymap working. I might try some stuff later if in the mood but for now I have nothing unfortunately
