Bypass "align screen" - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

I have uppgraded my IPAQ 614C.
ANd when booting, it demands that I must align my screen.
This continues whatever I do.

If you mean that it keeps asking you to align your screen over and over again, its because you're not giving it accurate enough results. Keep doing it, it'll work

Create empty file on SD card called WELCOME.NOT

if device is detected by activesync create the same WELCOME.NOT empty file and copy it to root of device.

still have the problem? let me know. I have a program, I'd have to search for it in my external hdd. But it'll fix it for you.
had that problem on samsung omnia!! the biggest POS of all phones.
thanks

Just what he says... NOthing more nothing less.

There is a registry setting that lets you change the degree of accuracy.
Forgot what it was though. I used it when part of my touchscreen broke

Since this thread comes up first in the Google search results, I thought I've give a quick summary of the ways to bypass the screen alignment:
1. Keep aligning; for some, the process may stop. For me even after 20 tries, it's till going.
2. As advised in this thread, connect to the Pocket PC using ActiveSync, Explore the device, then delete Windows\Startup\Welcome
3. Create an empty file called "welcome.not" on the SD card, or in the root directory of thedevice.
4. Installed Code Factory Remote Alignment. As far as I know, they are out of business, and the only copy of that software that I could locate has been uploaded to this thread. This is the only method that has worked for me, but obviously it requires a computer connected to the phone.

2nd splash disappeared, not a welcomehead.96.png problem!!

My second splash screen (Windows Mobile) has disappeared. ATM only a white screen and fortunately I can boot.
I copied welcomehead.96.png to my PC to see if I can edit it (YES) and back to Wizard \windows folder and still same white one...
Any suggestions (I do'not want to flash or something like that because it takes a lot of time to shapen up the programs installed)
BTW, I have AKU 2.3 Mr. Clean 2.24 ROM. I can't edit extended_rom because of Wizard Extended_Rom 2.xx restrictions (no solution yet, at least I couln't find anywhere, Just Buzz was working on it)
:?:
I had this happen to me too, if you are using your own one, just replace the files again. But if you are not sorry you will have to find someone with that file. I copied it in 2 times and it works ok now!
Find what? an original "welcomehead.96.png file" ?
ya, cus i have changed my, but i did not like it so i did not keep a copy of the one it came with!
(cus the 1st file i put there did not a thing but then the 2nd one said to replace the file and i said yes!)
...It isn't dissapeared. Just delete the new one and voilà, there it is: the original.
I myself got a white screen after I installed pocketRSS reader...
Exactly the same program "pRSSreader". After installing it just a white screen. Will give a try to delete.
I have replaced it many times but nothing changed. Deleting might be a solution as yours
I'll post if I manage
Thanx

NOPE, didn't worked for me. I deleted ones, there u go, the original ROM file. but nothing changes.
...only when you uninstall pRSS the whitescreen disappears. It doesn't matter whatever you do.
But IF you have no pRSS anymore then you can regain the original welcomehead.96.png, because it's not gone but hide away...
Easily changed 1st splash with rom update (seems harder) but I'll give up the 2nd one because I like to use pRSSreader. Maybe ask the developer for a bug.
Thanx anyway
I tried deleting the welcomehead file but Resco says it can't be deleted as its in ROM.
I have the same problem, installed pRSSReader, it made my screen disappear. So I uninstalled it but the problem is still there.
Any fixes?
I would try the ones above but I can't seem to delete the png file.
Thanks..
copy welcomehead.96.png from Windows folder to anywhere(can be your PC) and copy it back to Windows folder.
think it will work
I tried that. It doesn't seem to work
I renamed the welcomehead.96.png file and then I deleted the renamed one. It created a new png file which, when I open, I can see is the Windows Mobile screen.
But it doesn't show on startup.
I also tried copying it to my storage card and then copying it back to Windows.
Doesn't work
Any other suggestions, please?
if you navigate to
HKLM\Security\Phone\Skin
Change the value of Enabled to 1
Soft Reset
do you get your logo now ....
I know changing the value to 0 should give the the default windows mobile screen
It was already set to 1 so I took a chance and changed it to 0.
Well...its still the same.
This is unbelievable. I also had a go with Total Commander and some of the instructions around this forum. Nothing.
I can't believe the developer of pRSSReader can screw up so bad...I am going to make sure I tell everyone I know to steer clear.
Thanks for your help, though...
try to create another welcomehead.96.png with properties 240x320 24bit (important) with your PC copy it over PPC windows folder. it should work.
i have done like this way and i change whatever i want but pRSS reader get things conplicated if u want your welcome screen do not use that program as well.
Should the image be 320x320 or 240x320? I know the resolution of the device is 240x320 but many people who have posted here on how to change the boot images say it should be 320x320.
I will do the above and let you know how it goes.
I can easily change my 2nd splash before pRSSreader and now and will after (uninstalled that RSS program)
I posted this thread becuse I wanted to learn if that program created the bug or not and if it's possible to overcome that problem without uninstalling. Asked the buddy who wrote pRSSreader and absolutely he was not aware of the issue. maybe will solve it eith the next release who knows ??
all my images are 240x320 24bit .png and they work perfect.
let me know how it goes as u told
Well, I edited the original 320x320 image to 240x320 and then copied it to my Windows folder. It still doesn't work! It's so strange
I can't imagine how its not working because it seems to be for everyone else.
I can confirm that the problem took place after I installed pRSSReader as I didn't install any other program before that for at least 3 days. It's a very nice program (and free, which makes it nicer) but not worth the trouble if it messes up my system.
Well, I guess I'll learn to live with it...till I decide to do a hard reset and install all my stuff again (which is just scary as I have a lot of stuff and it'll take up tons of time).

Is it possible to (un)disable the sd-card slot?

Hello guys!
I've just recieved a "new"(errh) qtek2020/Himalaya wm2003-device from my workplace today, so i went of to install TomTom navigator on it.
SO, I insert the sd-card that contains my tomtom navigator program, the device turns itself on, but nothing happends. The tomtom-setup won't autorun as it use to do, and the card won't show up as \Storage_card in file explorer as it is supposed to do.
Then, I try again with another sd-card, same thing happends. The device turns itself on, but still no \Storage_Card folder in the file explorer.
One possibility is of course that the sd-card slot is simply broken, but it wouldn't surprise me if they've just found a way to disable the slot.
Is there any ways they could have done this? And, more important, possible to revert this?
I remember some weeks ago reading on another web-page that there is a file in the \windows-directory at the device that is absolutely needed for WM to be able to read sd-cards, but I cannot remember what this file was, nor can I locate the page where I read this in the first place. Anyone know what file they could be talking about?
Thanks in advance!

How do I install updates and .cab files?

HI, I have just got the HD2 and have been on the HTC website and found a variety of updates for my phone. I follow these instructions:-
"This update for HTC HD2 allows for contacts stored on your SIM card to be properly displayed on your phone along with Phone and Exchange Server contacts.
Installation Instructions:
Note: This update is only for ROM versions less than or equal to 1.59.XXX.X.
Follow the instructions below to download and install the Update on your device:
Make sure you have Microsoft ActiveSync® installed on your Windows XP PC or Windows Mobile Device Center on your Windows Vista® PC. You can find Microsoft ActiveSync from this link or Windows Mobile Device Center from this link.
Connect and synchronize your device with your PC via Microsoft ActiveSync® or Windows Mobile Device Center using the USB cable.
To download the Update, first select the check box below. Next, select the Update and the desired FTP site then click Download.
To install the Update, tap the RUU.exe file on your PC and follow the on-screen instructions.
DOWNLOAD: To download this software, please follow the steps below:
1. Please select the file most suitable for your device:
--Please Select-- Update for HTC HD2 SIM Contacts
2. Please select a location closest to you:
--Please Select-- Europe 1 Europe 2 US Asia 1 Asia 2 "
I save the file to my PC, but when I try to run the file I get an error message saying that the .exe is not a valid Win32 application. Can anyone help? I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit.
Also, if I'm in the UK should I be selecting Europe 1 or Europe 2?
Finally, if I want to install .cab files to my phone where do I store the files and how do I open them?
Cheers
I can't say why the hotfix isn't working. You just run it from the PC and it works. Try downloading it again, in case it got corrupted during download.
As for cab files, I personally keep all my cab files so I can install them again after the next ROM update. I've got an "installers" folder on my storage card, with subfolders for different installer types (games, utils, htc fixes etc.) and I put them in there. You just run them directly on the phone by clicking them.
A word of advice - unless you REALLY want something installed on your phone, install it to the storage card. These babies run out of device space very quickly once you start installing stuff, and there's things out there that you don't have a choice about.
I only install things to the phone if the phone would function differently without it. eg. Theme modifications and essential utilities etc..
Hope you get the hotfix working. Most hotfixes run on the phone, so you won't normally have this issue. Oh yes, you should be selecting Europe for download location if you're in the UK. As far as I'm aware though, that's just the server location, so you pick the closest one. It won't affect what you download. That's determined by what region the site recognises you as.
Good luck
I've tried downloading it again but get the same error message. Should I be transfering the .exe file to the phone, and open it from the phone, or save it to the PC and open it on the PC? IF I should open it on the phone, where do I find the file once I've transfered it?
All the recent hotfixes, apart from the SIM contacts one, are local files that have to be run on the device.
Copy the file to the device then locate it using a file explorer. Simply press the file name with your finger to run it.

Well to be honest the SIMS was just one example, you have helped me with the others so many thanks
Once I've installed the hotfixes can I delete the .exe files from my phone?
You can, but they are relatively small so would you gain much?
Store them on the Storage Card (you can run then from there as well) so if you ever have to do a factory reset, you'll still have the update files to apply.

Good thinking
At the risk of seeming like a complete idiot, I wonder if I could pick your brains for some help.
I joined your forums when I bought my HTC HD2 a few weeks ago, (I had been a Nokia man for the last 20 years) and have spent the time perusing your excellent forums for information whilst learning the telephone out of the box, and now I have decided to expand my knowledge a little and start installing some simple .cab files.
I have tripped at the first hurdle!
I thought I'd start with something simple like the 'torch'
I created a folder on my computer specifically for downloaded cab files, and created the same on my HD2, downloaded the RAR file, unzipped it to my computer folder, then grabbed it and set it into the folder on the phone.
All good.
Now, when I use 'file explorer' to find the file, I can open it ok and when I click 'setup', the screen goes white with nothing but a small black box in the bottom right corner with what looks like a usb outline and an arrow above it.
If i click that, it looks like it's trying to take me to a website!
Now bejayus and begorrah, I'm not a stupid person, but I am an old dog trying to learn new tricks, so if anyone can help in laymans 'idiot proof' terms what I am doing wrong, it would be greatly appreciated.
Fantastic forum by the way, even though most of the information passes clean over the top of my head!
Well just so any other noob is/was in the same predicament as myself, the answer as expected was very simple.
DO NOT unzip the RAR file containing the .cab file on your computer when you download it and then send the unzipped folder to your phone.
Go to the location to where Firefox (or whoever) downloaded it on your computer, then copy and paste the intact RAR zip file direct to your phone and open it there.
I knew the answer would be simple, but thankfully the kind people in another forum pointed me in the right direction.
I know it's blatantly obvious to many members here, in fact, you probably laughed at such a stupid question in the first place...... but please keep in mind that not all of us are computer geeks.
I'm a hairy arsed construction worker myself, and merely trying to keep up with modern technology.
And I do love trying!

[Q] weird dissapearing act

This is strange, I have a file that keeps dissapearing! I keep a .pls file for one of my local radio stations in a "My Documents" folder on my storage card. I usually tap the file and it opens in TCPMP and streams the station. Or I can open TCPMP and browse to the file. Every so often, the file will be missing. The first time it happened I thought I had deleted it accidentally, but it has happened several times now. I can't seem to trace it to anything i'm doing like soft resets or program installs. I just recently upgraded to the latest Energy ROM but I always take my cards out before I flash and it was there when I checked afterward. Sometimes TCPMP will crash when i try to play it but the file will still be there. All other files in that folder stay in place. Anyone got any idea what could be causing that.

Just make sure you're connected via active sync and not disc drive mode when you go search for it that way. Also, just to be certain....you're sure you're looking in the My Documents folder on the SD card, and not the one on the phone, correct?
could it be that the my docs folder is being synced, but only in one direction, so the file on the phone is being deleted because it isn't in my docs on the pc?
just a thought.
maybe store it somewhere else for a while, see if it continues to vanish.

sync'd with both pc's one windows 7 and the other XP, and did soft reset....file is still there....will update when/if it happens again...
ok, happened again. Noticed it this morning. Can't search right now but will later. The only big change I've made recently is adding android to the root of the SD card, not sure how/if that could affect a file in a sub folder. I have not sync'd since i last noticed the file there. I have not installed or uninstalled any apps (aside from android) since i last noticed it. I have not deleted any files from that folder although i have moved a few. I've been very cautious around that folder. I have also not used TCPMP since I last saw it. I have no clue why this file moves/dissapears but i'm determined to figure it out. any ideas on how to troubleshoot this?
I know when it happens
It has to do with Android, I don't know why. It's been a while because I haven't installed an Android build to my SD card in a while. I just noticed both files there yesterday. Last night I tried this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=747492 Android build, but couldn't get the internet to work. I then decided to delete only the folders that Android installed after the initial boot. The two .pls files I'm concerned with are located at SDCard\My Documents\file.pls. And the "My documents" folder is otherwise intact. I have not checked exactly where/when in the process the files get deleted/removed and I can still not rule out user error, but I know i did not go into that folder and delete anything when I deleted the Android folders soo....Now that I know it's for sure related to android I can recreate the process and determine at which step the files go away. to be continued...
Did everything over again tonight and, unbelievably, the files disappeared after the first time I ran android. I have no clue how or why but that's exactly what happened. I copied the files back to Storage Card\My Documents\ , plugged in usb and let active sync connect. the files were still there. I then copied over the Android files, and checked again. both files still there. Restarted the device, checked for the files still there. Navigated to the android folder, ran clrcad and haret and android started. Did the initial setup and let android load completely. I then restarted the phone, checked for the files and they were gone . They were the only files gone. Why would android delete those two files??

PC to USB SD Card?

I connect my Android HD2 to my PC via USB and copy files (APK) to my SD Card. I check to see that the files on on my SD Card and they show as being there. Then I disconnect from my PC.
1. Turn on USB Storage
2. Connect without Scan
3. Open Folder via Windows 7.
4. Recheck to see if the files are displayed on the SD Card - Yes they show again.
5. Close the SD Card view on PC
6. Disconnect USB
7. Sometimes I can see the files and install while other times I cannot see the files. It is not consistent. I have been trying to figure this out for over a week without any consistent results. It seems to be hit or miss.
Any suggestions? Thanks!
I generally boot into WinMo to transfer files to SD, takes a couple of minutes extra but saves me this kind of hassle

Once you've transferred your file to your phone, disconnect the USB cable, go into setting and unmount your SDcard and then mount it again. Now you should be able to see all your transferred files.

Thank you! However, when you enter a Title a screen does come up with suggested like titles. If I am the 1,000th person to ask this question, it must be buried amongst the other 1,000,000 postings that have been asked again. If we stopped all the BS about people going back and forth and simply provide a link instead of a lecture, maybe this forum would be cleaner. Example:
1. How would I or anyone else know to check your replies to these questions in your profile? Who R U????
2. Use Droid Explorer here instead of Windows Explorer. I use the search function.
3. Know your facts before you get bent out of shape the next time.
4. If you would have taken the time to try and help instead of trying to play 'KNOW IT ALL' you could have saved some time.
5. If you think I am lazy, Tough Stuff.

I have used the option of Rebooting into WM then copy files to SD and that always worked. However, I have never turned off phone and take out SD Card. Try it without turning off phone and removing card.
Just reboot into WM, USB to PC, copy files to SD then go into your File Explorer and install from there without - turn off phone and removing card.
Let us know if that worked for you.
