Archos 101 root options - Gen8 General

I'm hoping to get an Archos 101 for Christmas this year and I'm big into the jailbreak/root scene so having rooted my iPod and my trusty ol' HTC Wildfire I have quite a good knowledge of terms and what not.
I was just wondering about root options for the tablet and Archangel just seems like a useless sort of root as you can't do anything involving reboots.
Chulri's root seems good and well and Urukdroid seems to incorporate elements of Linux, if anyone could clear this up for me or offer any experience it would be greatly appreciated
Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the Archos Commuity
Its quite simple:
If you wanna use the stock android -> chulris method
If you wanna use the best rom (atm) -> urukdroid
Urukdroid is a bit more "hard" to do it because you have to copy one file more as for chulris mthod
But both methods are good and they do what they should do
Greets,
Lenn
PS You'll get the 101 or the 101 G9?

Thanks for the welcome! Im going for the 101 and not the gen9 one because its cheaper :$ anyway, I think I will go for urukdriod as it seems to be a bit more interesting/gives you more options so thanks a lot!

To buy or not to buy that is the question (Galaxy S)

Ok i just ordered my 8gb Samsung Galaxy S i9000 in Swisscom so im having some questions as a newbie to Android,i just "upgraded" myself from windows 6.5 to android 2.1 and im quite excited but im hoping you can answer me this;
1.Ive seen a lot of themes on the subject Iphone vs Galaxy, but would really like to know is Galaxy better?
2.Should i upgrade my stock Galaxy 2.1 Android to 2.2?
3.What apps do you recomend i get started with and are most essential
Thanx for all the answers and advice you give me,i hope i made the right choice (i shall find out in a week or so)
1. Never have got my fingers on an iphone 4 but 3GS. And yep imho sgs is better
2. Froyo(2.2) on my HTC Magic was rockin' like hell... on my SGS it was a bit laggy so i switched back to Eclair (2.1). However you should root it and install an LagFix like Voodoo
3. AppBrain to install Apps on the Phone from PC, and then everything that fits your needs
1. Its Not the question of "better". Its Android vs iOS. Android wins in my Eyes.
2. Wait for the off. 2.2 ROM from Samsung. JM8 and Voodoo is for me now the Best. Look here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KNEunD2Fsrg
3. Install what you Need. But AppBrain is a cool APP for App-Management.
The phone is great.
Someren me ik minor tweaks are myserver rcommendation:
-OneclickLagfix
-Apps2nand
Then your phone is and stays
the fastest handheld around.

I have the SGS Vibrant and I getta tell ya, it's an amazing phone..
You can start with RyanZa's one click app from the Market "I like AppBrain also"
the One click app has been updated and will give you Root and Lagfix. Just follow the one click directions... Once done, the phone is super fast..
Once you get up to date on the specs of the SGS and really read up on the "How To's" listed here at XDA, you can then start modding your phone for a more personal feel.
Currently I'm running a deodexed rom with an OCv4 1.2Ghz kernel update.
Their are lots of metamorph mod's to choose from and lots of rom's to fit your own personal pallet..
Good Luck and enjoy... and welcome to Android !!!!
I would get the htc desire i had it for a while then got tepmted by the hype around the galaxy s and got one, the desire is a much more mature product and works like a clock. The samsung is bugy and no where near as responsive as the desire.

but they stopped production of HTC Desires with the AMOLED displays, now the new Desires have regular boring LCD displays

just wait for it.
+1 for JM8 + voodoo and i tried about all firmwares so far.
It's the best if you want it stable and speedy.
For the apps that's mostly what I use:
xda app, engaget app (yeh lol)
fring, skype beta, msn talk (messengers)
google sky
tasker (i dont like it so much but i didnt find better for automation and app lock)
rockplayer (plays everything)
es file explorer (root file explorer, but also supports ftp/smb)
newsrob (rss)
k9 mail (supports imap push a must)
irssi conn (a must for ssh)
gameboid
adfree
Glyder 2 (game)
ping chat (like whatsapp but free)
SIP droid
lastfm
ringtone (makes your own ring tones easily from various sound sources)
titanium backup (if you switch roms around a lot especially)
have fun
Thank you for all your replies,i wanted to get the HTC but as you say it has a boring display compared to SGS
Ok so i downloaded 1000+ apps and there all waiting on my pc
I was wondering could anyone provide me with some links to apps that speed SGS up a bit so that i can transfer them from my pc to SGS and install or just tell me wich ones are the best to use on android 2.1?
Thank you again in advance
you asked the right man
check this list
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=765081
and there are more that i've not updated yet
you might want to also install the lag fix (Android Market)

[Q] getting my new wildfire on thursday!

Hi Guys
Getting my wildfire on thursday cant wait!
ive been reading the forums trying to get some ideas what i can do with it,
this is my first android phone.
I know i definately want to root it,
overclock it,
and try some custom roms...
Just a few noob questions if you dont mind....
Can any1 recommend a good rom to start with where everything works and not buggy.(i do like the look of wildpuzzle would this be a good choice?)
Will i have problems using the android market place, goole apps or be any other cons i need to know about?
What would be a safe speed to overclock to?
any other tips or tricks would be most appreciated
many thanks craig
The only thing i can say about The wildfire is that it is a really slow phone. Absolutely not for games. Before my desire i used my wildfire and wanted more speed it was my first android phone too, good starter. Have fun with ur wildfire.

First make sure it's still on Eclair 2.1 and not FroYo or else you'lll have to wait a while before you can root it.
Try all the ROMs first with all the apps you would care about, so you won't have any usage or compatibility issues. IMHO start from flashing Safe Stock ROM > other Sense ROMS> AOSPs > CM7.
I played around with some ROMS when I got my Wildfire, and then settled for WP v0.8, but this was before the dev moved on and CM7 nightlies were out.Still, it's awesome and serves all my needs.
As the previous post said:
MAKE SURE IT'S ECLAIR 2.1 !!!!
The Wildfires currently retailing are Froyo 2.2 and can't yet be rooted - ie. NO overclock and NO custom ROMs.
Apologies for the shouting but I don't want you to be disappointed like I was earlier this week when I bought my 2nd Wildfire retail.

Keep your fingers crossed for me
i can recommend wildpuzzle v.08, not one problem since flashing.
you should be ok 3 have only just released update
I will take my Wildfire tommorrow, already comfirm that it's 2.1
Hi just want to echo the posts from above.Make sure it`s 2.1.Got my Wildfire just over a month ago and have got it rooted, overclocked and running live wallpapers.
If I can do it after years of having Nokia phones anyone can do it, mostly thanks for the instructions and help from these pages.
I`ve currently got WildPuzzle v 0.8 overclocked 691 max and 245 min and running nicely.
Sure its not the fastest phone so pay 3 times as much and get a desire!
Seriously for the money it`s a good phone
thanks very much guys
i must say this forum rockz!
lots of fast responses unlike the insanely mac forums(dont ask me)
Thanks guyz will keep you posted
Just get my phone, rooted and installed CM6 into it. Wildfire rocks

When we can have multi-users Android tablet?

There is a new mod for iPad:
http://www.engadget.com/2011/07/17/iusers-frees-your-ipad-of-monogamy-enables-multiple-user-profil/
Ok, it requires jailbreak.
But, we do have full root here ... So, developers, when we can have similar like this?
That would be awesome
My wife and I share our tab, this would be an awesome feature!
Been looking for this for a very long time!

Oh, don't be mean. ;^ ) I purchased a really nice early Tegra two tab before Honeycomb or the Xoom were released and for a variety of reasons, development on it just died completely and that's it. I had done my research but I was an early adopter and took a chance and...oh well....there are a lot of "deals" out there, and the desire to have an android tab can be strong.

Questions to 70it2 / 70B owners

Hello All,
I have few questions to 70it2 owners:
- How does it charge ? Through specific charger or usb port ?
- How is screen ?
- Did you try to root it ?
If you successfully rooted it, I'd be interested in a dd of mmc to check if I can get the aos keys. It's completely safe for your device, and it would help me for the future...
Thanks,
LeTama
Archos 70BIT2
- How does it charge ? Through specific charger or usb port ?
the charge is great, had no problem with it. It comes with 3 adapters from 3 countries:US, HongKong and Europe. Also with a USB cable and
- How is screen ?
screen is 7 inch and it picks up fast but regardless of the cpu usage but try not to use more than one app at the same time
- Did you try to root it ?
still looking but no one has not posted intructions to root it because this device just came out recently. I hope to root it ASAP because i have only have less than 15 days to return this. Thats all
Hi,
Thanks for the replies! Questions were a bit obsolete as I purchased a froyo it2 one (and killed it, but that's another story).

I rooted froyo it2, but don't try what's there on yours, it won't work. Root is a bit different on this tablet, but I can't do it without having it, too dangerous. Sorry!
Shame they won't release ICS for it...

Is it really that much different from the G9?
Yes, it's completely different, soc is previous generation, omap3, single core and slower graphics.
But I don't buy the argument that it would be too slow, we see it running quite smooth on slower platform. And it's supposed to be more efficient than Honeycomb after all.

I wonder for how much you bought it. If you bought it at carphonewarehouse, listed as 70IT and sold for 99 pounds, I think you shouldn't complain...
i have bought it 110euros but i had 100euros of reduction from the firm where i work.
210e real for an error of marketing like my tab. It's just the reality, then i can complain lol
and i don't think that this tab will receive a good support from archos.
It was annonced an archos it first generation like you.
