[Q] getting my new wildfire on thursday! - Wildfire General

Hi Guys
Getting my wildfire on thursday cant wait!
ive been reading the forums trying to get some ideas what i can do with it,
this is my first android phone.
I know i definately want to root it,
overclock it,
and try some custom roms...
Just a few noob questions if you dont mind....
Can any1 recommend a good rom to start with where everything works and not buggy.(i do like the look of wildpuzzle would this be a good choice?)
Will i have problems using the android market place, goole apps or be any other cons i need to know about?
What would be a safe speed to overclock to?
any other tips or tricks would be most appreciated
many thanks craig

The only thing i can say about The wildfire is that it is a really slow phone. Absolutely not for games. Before my desire i used my wildfire and wanted more speed it was my first android phone too, good starter. Have fun with ur wildfire.

First make sure it's still on Eclair 2.1 and not FroYo or else you'lll have to wait a while before you can root it.
Try all the ROMs first with all the apps you would care about, so you won't have any usage or compatibility issues. IMHO start from flashing Safe Stock ROM > other Sense ROMS> AOSPs > CM7.
I played around with some ROMS when I got my Wildfire, and then settled for WP v0.8, but this was before the dev moved on and CM7 nightlies were out.Still, it's awesome and serves all my needs.

As the previous post said:
MAKE SURE IT'S ECLAIR 2.1 !!!!
The Wildfires currently retailing are Froyo 2.2 and can't yet be rooted - ie. NO overclock and NO custom ROMs.
Apologies for the shouting but I don't want you to be disappointed like I was earlier this week when I bought my 2nd Wildfire retail.

ooooooopppppppsssss!
Jusy brought it from three in the uk.....
Can honestly say i dont know.....
i am pooooping myself will know on thursday/friday.
Keep your fingers crossed for me

i can recommend wildpuzzle v.08, not one problem since flashing.
you should be ok 3 have only just released update

I will take my Wildfire tommorrow, already comfirm that it's 2.1

Hi just want to echo the posts from above.Make sure it`s 2.1.Got my Wildfire just over a month ago and have got it rooted, overclocked and running live wallpapers.
If I can do it after years of having Nokia phones anyone can do it, mostly thanks for the instructions and help from these pages.
I`ve currently got WildPuzzle v 0.8 overclocked 691 max and 245 min and running nicely.
Sure its not the fastest phone so pay 3 times as much and get a desire!
Seriously for the money it`s a good phone

thanks very much guys
i must say this forum rockz!
lots of fast responses unlike the insanely mac forums(dont ask me)
Thanks guyz will keep you posted

Just get my phone, rooted and installed CM6 into it. Wildfire rocks

Some would argue that going from N1 to SGS is a downgrade, but oh well I'd try to avoid doing any unofficial flashing for the moment until Froyo is officially released.

I went from a Nexus One to SGS, it is a bit of a downgrade firmware wise, but the screen on the SGS so much nicer, it's worth changing just for the screen.
Keeping in mind that pretty much everybody's is whining constantly about their rom versions, I would upgrade to JPK from 23 September '10 (yes the old and first "real" one) having OCLF over it, and am still pretty amazed by his responsiveness nd decent gps reception.(even playing with it just to see for myself how stable it is)
I have, since a couple of days, increased the minumum cpu to 200MHz for a bit more responce and it's working for me, one full day with a bit less then 2 hours of navigation will not be a problem with this setup.
Maybe and just maybe i'll update to an jpx rom when everybody is satisfied with it, .. hard time restoring hundreds of apps constantly
unless you're having a 'newer is better' mentality, you should go with the pack!
Thanks for the reply compulse, the main reason I would of wanted froyo was for the flash web browsing.
I like the desire hd aswell but the speaker is a bit crap and the screen is a bit washed out, im sure there's not much difference in screen size between the sgs or dhd

My recently acquired Desire HD is amazing!!

Happenin' guys howz tricks?
I'm not on here as often as i would like (when i briefly had both my O2 XDA aka HTC Universal and my Nexus One) however it is a great forum.
Not long changed from a Samsung Galaxy S 16gb model to the HTC Desire HD and my god what a world of difference - Sense UI is awesome (damn sight better than TouchWiz IMO)
Absolutely lovin' it!!
Just thought i'd say hi and praise an awesome phone
And thats from stock..wait till you do a custom rom and oc kernel...then it really is amazing.

I've been amazed in general regarding the various rooting, kernels, ROMs etc for Android however i would much rather have a secondary phone precisely for the sole reason of mucking around with the software
I may get a second phone to learn about it because i reckon it would be something cool to learn... I may even use that HTC Kitchen thingy on the forum
It is amazing, coming my self from a sgs where i needed to flash in order to get froyo and to get proper lag fix coming to the dhd is a nice breath of fresh air!
ATM i don't feel the need of flashing roms unless there was a good compelling reason, all the bugs that I've read here , i simply don't have.
I however love launcher pro so using that instrad of sense ui, also just managed to unlock my device which is great too.
Can't beat custom roms and kernels...I'm getting..
Quadrant . 3001
Linpack . 52.149
Neocore . 58.7
My DHD is flying

i hate you all !!!!
lol im still waiting hopefully this week tho.
i used one in a voda store tho felt very snappy but sense launcher will have to go just not as clean as launcher pro lol

+1 Agreed...not as fast either....

I am bored and I want to root my desire.... BUT?

Update: attempting root, flash etc... help a brother out, lol
I keep editing my last post for problems I am finding, thx
what i've seen so far are other way round, that is rooting could make you unable to get OTA updates..
you can find rooting guides and roms in development section

I noticed u are from SG.. have u got the DHD yet or still waiting like the rest of us?
To the TS, there's a good sticky in the DHD Android Dev section, the very first thread by Ivo.. u should read that.

I read somewhere that the OTA could possibly stop me from rooting my phone? Is there somewhere/something specific I should check before I make the attempt?
With the help of this forum, I did get into rooting my nexus one... and flashing often... but if someone could point me to a proper how to.... and a known solid rom/kernel....
I would appreciate it, thx in advance

this is quite OT, but I was wondering how come DHDs overclocked to 1.5Ghz can achieve 3k+ Quadrant scores but the G2 needs to be OCed to 1.8 or 1.9Ghz to achieve similar scores? The extra RAM of the DHD makes so much difference?
Well its a different processor, not just lower clocked.
I dont know the specs off the top of my head but i would guess it has smaller caches. That does make a difference. I doubt ram comes into it for most of the benchmarks.

thx for the input, I know reading is a good thing... problem is, there is 100 threads.... I just need to know where to start to achieve root, then a suggested person to follow.... one that addresses issues fast, has the latest greatest etc
I will start reading and flashing tonight! thx

thx for that, I had a brutal day at work... and then I had a very, very late "tour" at a correctional facility..... so i did not get to any of this. Hopefully tomorrow.... I absolutely love this phone and case..... my windows 7 phone came today... and wifi compared to wife.... the dhd destroys it.... not to mention... things look normal on the dhd... on the w7p, it looks like crap until you zoom in... I just wanted to try the phone for myself, lol
so for me, it all comes down to 2g vs 3g.... dhd is better has down, for many things and reasons..... but the 2g vs 3g is causing me turmoil... oh well, once I root and see the goodness... maybe it will be a much easier decision
brb almost done

Not going to lie, I had NO idea what I was doing... but I think I just stumbled through it all.....
are the kernels dangerous.... how can I test/check to see if it is worthwhile.... will they drain the battery even more so? thx
Depending what kernel and what clock speed you set, you should be able to underclock to around 700 +/- mhz and not have any noticeable slow downs.
Just make sure you set a lower speed when your screen is off and you battery will last upwards of 24 hours.
thx, I just that 1.51 one for now.... seems to be working well, I put a profile in for screen off.... dropping it to 256-756 or whatever it is! did some light benching, angry birds, no lag or issues so far.... woke up and the phone is still alive, lol
thx

Best Hero ROMs

Hello,
I own an Epic4g rooted/rommed/themed and my friend with a Hero is jealous and wants me to give his phone similar treatment. I'm sure this discussion has been beat to death but I wondering if you guys could recommend the best Hero ROMs that are out right now.
We're looking for -Speed -Stability -Battery Life. I don't want him calling me every other day because his phone is glitching. Any ROM/kernel combos that will fit the bill?
Thanks,
1greek
AOSP 2.2
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I agree. I personaly have the Nightly installed, but for what you asked for, AOSP will do.
Forgive me. From referencing the wiki page I'm finding AOSPmod 2.2. Is this not "true" AOSP or am I looking in the wrong place?
Thanks so much.
Look in the development section, its aosp's rom that was last finished in december (i believe). Its fast, small, and very stable. It was the last rom I had on my hero, and it was the best I had used.

Thank you guys for being so cool.. i have been reading other forums.. and anytime.. noobs ask questions like these.. they get slammed... Anyhoo.. Thank you.
which i think is dumb, everyone started out from ground zero.
and they didnt get any where with out asking questions either. so dont think one moment
not to ask, but do research as well. that helped me a ton
oh.. i use search functions to death... ok.. and maybe i should be a lil more specific.. also.. is there a 2.2 rom with sense that is stable? i am on 2.1 damage control 1.0(bought it this way) it is fast and the sense stuff works great.. but.. i would like some of the newer sense apps.. like friendstream.. also i keep getting error 67.. also i am flashed to cricket.. i have been told changing roms wont mess with carrier settings.. ughh.. i hate being a noob..
If this were IOS or Xbox or Wii modding.. I know a Ton.. but am Very new to android modding.. Loving my hero tho... i know it is a little slow.. but .. it is a Cool phone..
Thank you for any help...
there is one that is close to what you want go to the dev section it is by PMGRANDS great rom in my opinion

1.6 rom is faster?

wildfire is very very slow phone. thx god i have lg optimus 3d now. but i gave wildfire to my girlfriend and she is angry with this phone. we will buy her another better phone, but till that happens how we can make wildfire run without lags? maybe 1.6 rom would be fastier for this phone? maybe 2.1 - 2.3 roms are to heavy for wildfire.
The cheek of it, my phone is not slow!!
And as you're so polite and explain your predicament in such grammatical etiquette, I'm sure you'll have no problem Googling a solution.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using xda premium
I corrected my mistakes. U can answer now.
There is no 1.6 rom for wildfire. It was released with 2.1. Even if there is one we can't use some hardware features which were introduced recently .
If we see benchmarking apps they show that the recent android version 2.3 has better performance than the previous ones as now (not only for wildfire but for almost every device) .
Sent from my Blade using XDA App
Understand. Ok;/ bad that wildfire doesnt have original 2.3.
well, here i am using my wildfire normally fast like another phone. please check ur phone 's app which is using big ram or try cm7.1

Lol................ angry birds runs perfect, yes we may have inferior hardware to your phone but its how you use it that counts. As I suggested before Google the solutions because you wont get much help speaking down to us like you do.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using xda premium
are u angrie because i said wildfire is slow phone? i dont know how i said because my english is not good. i say how i can ..
And angry birds i tried on all roms after just instal fresh rom and overclock cpu and so on. i tryed everything so dont be funny saying it runs good.
Nah mate, not angry I just love when people post ive tried everything, well obviously you haven't because then you would realise that wildfire is more than capable of running angry birds without a problem, there's plenty of information in this forum, too much to list in fact, your best bet is to read through these forums picking out ways to make the phone faster. Try starting here, in my post I've put links but if there's something you wanna try from another post Google it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1273240
Edit: I ain't been funny, it really can work perfect. Maybe not with a straight from the box rom but a few tweaks here and there and angry birds is no problem.

Oh dear $diety what happen I don't even.
As a dev though, I generally prefer to keep things mostly default as to not invalidate my own testing results. Running the latest cm7 nightly with whatever hacks to make it blazingly fast is impressive but if you'd send in crash reports I may not be able to reproduce them. And testing on nightlies is like chasing a moving target, I rather get my beef from the supermarket thank you. Of course I can't speak for everyone but I've met several other application developers and so far only one of them had a device with cyanogenmod.
