Some would argue that going from N1 to SGS is a downgrade, but oh well I'd try to avoid doing any unofficial flashing for the moment until Froyo is officially released.

I went from a Nexus One to SGS, it is a bit of a downgrade firmware wise, but the screen on the SGS so much nicer, it's worth changing just for the screen.
Keeping in mind that pretty much everybody's is whining constantly about their rom versions, I would upgrade to JPK from 23 September '10 (yes the old and first "real" one) having OCLF over it, and am still pretty amazed by his responsiveness nd decent gps reception.(even playing with it just to see for myself how stable it is)
I have, since a couple of days, increased the minumum cpu to 200MHz for a bit more responce and it's working for me, one full day with a bit less then 2 hours of navigation will not be a problem with this setup.
Maybe and just maybe i'll update to an jpx rom when everybody is satisfied with it, .. hard time restoring hundreds of apps constantly
unless you're having a 'newer is better' mentality, you should go with the pack!
Thanks for the reply compulse, the main reason I would of wanted froyo was for the flash web browsing.
I like the desire hd aswell but the speaker is a bit crap and the screen is a bit washed out, im sure there's not much difference in screen size between the sgs or dhd

I thought I read on here that the update is going to be in two stages, one preparing the phone and the other giving us 2.1 which was pushed back to June. Maybe this is just the crappy update.
I don't believe that bull****. Just another rumor.
Also can someone enlighten me what the hell means this: "and could cause seizures in small pets" ?

that's crazy talk
Anyway I was asking myself :
Assuming that almost every member/reader of this forum would have tried at least once to install a custom ROM on their Hero, what to expect from the Official 2.1 update ?
Will I be sticking with it ? Will I wait for Villain/Kimera/other ports ? Assuming also that custom Roms will never be 100% stable...
Because from my experience with custom roms (and I've installed A LOT of them on A LOT of devices), it's allways about finding a compromise between speed and stability...
Yep, it's wednesday morning and I really don't wanna get to work...
I think when this 2.1 update comes out (probably won't happen soon, not even friday, as we all know HTC) this only may help custom modders in the stability of their roms, nothing else I'm guessing.
Wouldn't that be the Sprint Hero anyway?

Hmmmm,.... Well I haven't had the experience of swapping and changing ROMs on my Hero,... But having had it for about 2-3 months now, I'm still 100% happy with the speed and stability of the ROM I flashed to it on day 1, ... MCR3.2. I think I'v had 3 or 4 application force closes, and only had it freeze up forcing a re-boot ONCE!!!
I'm sure the custom 2.1's will be just as stable once we get the official ROM to use as a base.

Yes, I would assume so.
I'm not really looking for a more stable 2.1 rom. I just want the speed that is in the 1.5 roms. Since i've heard the 2.1 should be faster the the previous versions I have high hopes får the official release and that the dev can make the most out of it.

So it wouldn't change anything, would it? I mean, don't we already have ROMs made from the Sprint Hero leak?
Hopefully this news would be true. I'm also looking forward to 2.1 rombut not because of its new capability but actually for developers in enhancing making the 2.1 rom using overclocked method

Hope that devs wil make some nice looking and fast rom out of it.

no feel.....
I just really hope the battery life will improve.
Current 2.1 ROMs are already quick and stable enough for me, I wish the battery would last longer though. Aside from that, there are only a few minor bugs in most 2.1 ROMs that are currently out there, which do not really bother me.
Its not the 2.1 ROMS that are the problem its all down to the Kernel, which no1 has!surely if it was coming soon then it would have leaked somehow!
if you follow the link from the article it says sprint hero...

That's what he asks for. jm8 (the mooded version is just fine)+voodoo is the best you can currently get by so far. stock rom bugs are aweful. Especially lag. Horrible.
you do know the "lag fixes" are the cause of people posting problems with their Internal SD messed up and corrupted?
also people posting about semi-bricked phone unbootable past the boot screen logo?
^^ you're right!

Please do keep in mind that such things to most end users who don't want to get their hands dirty or potentially lose their warranty, are trivial. Not everyone wants to experiment with what's not official. Further more, stating that something is the "best" is pretty baseless. Most users will trust the vendor first. To them, that would be the best! Not to mention that better things keep coming along the way anyway, so it's just best to wait IMHO....

From looking over the specs it would have similar issue as the myTouch HD ROM, only in the other direction... it has a lower resolution than we do.

Yeah I was suffering from a momentary case of cranial flatulance on the resolution. For some reason I saw 320x480 and was thinking QVGA not HVGA. So yeah in theory other than adding the coding for the hard keyboard it "should" be fairly easy. Maybe Ace or Miquel could take a peak and let us rookies know. I can flash like a champ and help out with some minor issues/questions but am mostly code-tarded

This rom would be portable, I never heard of that phone, but I'll look it up for some info... Kb support can be done, has been done 100's times on G1+sense roms.
Well, this probably means that an official Froyo release for the Aria is close too. One thing that kind of concerns me is that I have seen more than one web site state that the Gratia will not run the "new Sense UI". I am still within the 30 day return window on my Aria, I got it because a) I did not want to be like 90% of the people around me with a iPhone 3GS or 4 b) it is small, I absolutely despite the size of the Galaxy S. However, if this is already incapable of running today's OS I will likely return it and grudgingly get an iPhone 4. Unfortunately I am stuck on AT&T on account of my wife and daughter being iPhone drones.
I wouldn't worry too much about it not running the new Sense. a) You haven't used it, so you don't even know if you'll like the changes. b) A ROM is sure to surface. c) I didn't think I'd like a ROM without sense, but now find myself really liking the vanilla Android experience.
So if you like the phone, I wouldn't return it based on what it's officially not getting. The wonderful thing is that there are options.
I did it. Still has some bugs though, but I'm loving it GratiousSlide in the dev section.

Has anyone ever been able to find a Froyo dump of that HTC Gratia ? I'm looking for it, but I can't find anything even here on XDA :-(.
EDIT: I should have searched better. LOL. Just found some traces of a rom based off a Gratia stock rom. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=819715. Thx.
There are plenty...
Here is one that is the latest Asian Gratia froyo leak one I could find: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1062149&highlight=football but still running FRF91 2.2.1
Here is one that has FRG83G (2.2.2) but it is AT&T branded and you will have to change a few lines in the .xml files to enabled "unknown apps" install. http://dl3.htc.com/application/sync/htc_sync_3.0.5617_us.exe
hi people
im not sure what people think of the sposed future stock update to gingerbread but i have a question
does anyone think that with the future stock update to gingerbread on its way and HTC hammering down the security holes, will it still be fairly easy to root ?
thanks for any replies
Hmm, well whenever there has been a update, we always find a way to root. dont worry this is a hot phone right now, and alot of devs will find ways around the security issues, Everything can be hacked, it just takes time thats all
alritey matey
cheers for that, hope it dont take to long

So.... today i dropped my phone (htc desire HD) and smashed the screen
and it really annoyed me for such a stupid mistake so i decided to cheer myself up and get another t mobile line out.
worst thing is my contract runs out in august so i only had a few months to wait.
but anyway.... i took the 2nd line and choose the galaxy note.
few questions.....
what will this start on? will it be 4.0.4 or will it be 3.2 something or other?
if its the 3.2 how hard is it for me to get straight onto 4.0.4?
will i need to root it?
I'm based in london, UK for anyone that might need to know.
note don't run on 3.x, most likely you will get a 2.3 phone. 4.03 was released few days ago in germany.
enjoy the wiki while you are waiting for the phone.

reason i went for note was....
I have a phone and a tablet, when im out i use my phone (htc desire HD)
indoors i use my tablet, so i thought i'd get something that can do what my tablet does, thats why i chose the note.
I do like the look of the s3, BUT... i want a bigger screen and the note is perfect for what im after.
all i want now is a link to where i can get this 4.0 from? as once the note arrives to me on tuesday, i really dont want the 2.3 crap that comes on it.
So can anyone guide me to the right thread/place ect, so i can update my new galaxy note to 4.0 ???

Nope, running CyanogenMod9 with no problems at all! Gotta be careful though, be sure to read the warning sticky before doing any flashing. It is a bit of reading, but it can very well prevent you from hardbricking/superbricking your shiny new Note.

You can, but the official ICS update contains an unsafe kernel that has already claimed Notes (don't know the details, but it's related to doing stuff in recovery). I wouldn't recommend official ICS if you plan on rooting/flashing.
