Actually it does not work', so i wanted to know how to mount this external sd card reader as an USB hard drive if possible

Assuming you are rooted, snag a drive mount tool and try to mount it from there.

What brand is it?
I have a cheap GE card reader that works. # 97942
Maybe not all card readers are supported.
And you don't need to mount it, if it works it works.
Does it light up?
Do you have a file manager?
With my card reader I have to first put the card in the reader then plug it into the usb. If I plug in the card reader with no card in it and then insert a card in it it does not even come up as usb_storage.
So try putting the card in first and plugging in the USB.
Then it lights up and flickers which means it is reading what is on the card.
Then in my file manager, (file manager HD) I click storage on the left then click the up arrow on the top right. Then I see the usb_storage and click on it.

[Q] Help a noob with micro sd problem

I installed a new 32gb class 10 sd. It shows up in Astro file manager as being available. However, none of the many APP2SD programs I have tried allow me to move my apps to the card. What am I missing here? Do I need to format the card first and if so, how do I do that?
Apps2Sd will put apps in the "SdCard" directory which in the Iconia is actual internal memory.
You can only use your card for extra storage (like music/videos)

So, where in the file system is the actual SD card?
It's under /mnt/external_sd
the USB is under /mnt/usb_storage
They will not show up with the USB connector cable attached, but can be accessed through ADB on the host computer.
I think you are meant to actually pull the card and put stuff on it then put it back in the tablet.
Not all media players will see the card because of this name change in Honeycomb.

In the "First start information" document that came with my Acer, it states:
Transferring files from a microSD card (optional) to your PC
Remove the card from the tablet and use a card reader or USB adapter to access the card as an external storage device.

[Q] USB transfer to SD Card buggy?

I've just got a 32GB Sandisk Class4 MicroSD and my transfer speeds are horrible when mounted over USB.
Also after some time, the transfers may fail, and the mount is no longer reachable. I.e. you can no longer browse it through My Computer.
When this happens, the phones interface grinds to a halt, and I need to restart it. Key strokes will take seconds to come up, etc.
I've tried reformatting the SD card, reinstalling Kies to get the latest USB driver, but the speeds still the same.
I found if I manually did "safely remove hardware" for the Android internal SD mount, the speed is a bit faster.
Any ideas?
Try adding the phone as a USB mass storage with USB Debug On, also use only the supplied Samsung cable and finally did you format the card in the phone before you started using it?

I couldn't find that, but ran H2TestW, which managed to write all the files fine but had read errors.
Not sure if that is because I have it going through the phone, maybe I should try an SD card adapter to the PC?

MicroSD is write protected, how do I fix?

Hello,
I recently tried to flash the Epic Sense ROM and it screwed up my SD Card, it wouldn't install system files and I was waiting over an hour. I pulled the battery out and ever since then, I wasn't able to paste any files to it because there was no paste option. I decided to format, but I was not able to because it said that the card was write-protected. I even made sure that the switch on the side was unlocked. I tried using CWM to format, but no luck. Is there anyway I can fix this?
Thanks
I have also tried the manage computer and tried to format using that, but the format option was greyed out I wish someone could help me fix this.
i went through this but it was cuz the switch was on lock
have you tried to format it through the phone?

It won't format through phone, it says cannot delete folder whenever I try. I used ESFileExplorer and Astro, I even tried the CWM formatter, but no luck. Does anyone know how I can format the card or make it readable again?
Thanks

Did you try pulling SD card, put it directly in PC, save everything to PC, format card, then put SD back in phone and format. Then put whet you want back on SD from your PC

Yeah, I tried formatting on PC, says write protected. I can only copy the files, and then I tried putting it on the phone and formatting, but it just makes me wait when I use CWM and then says its done, but nothing happens. When I use esFile Explorer, it just says that the files cannot be deleted.
If you have a way to try another computer, card reader, and Micro to mini adapter that might work.
Also, you might try this format utility written specifically for SD cards at the bottom of this page:
https://www.sdcard.org/consumers/formatter_3/
It's also possible that your card was damaged by the flash or battery pull. At least 16 gb cards are pretty cheap these days.
I tried the formatter, said the card was write protected.
Any other options? or should I start searching for a micro sd card?

I know you said you had the switch on the adapter in the unlock position, but I've had adapters who's switches were so loose that just inserting them in the reader slid the switch back to lock. Make sure that's not happening too. (unlock or writable is forward, towards the contacts. write protect is towards the end of the adapter that sticks out)

I'm 100% sure thats not the case because I have even tried formatting on my phone and also tried formatting another micro sd card with the same adapter.

I'm out of ideas. A quick search on google doesn't bring up any software solutions either. Sorry.
sounds like its messed up i guess
to be clear, you went into Settings> SD Card> Format on the phone and it didnt work?
i agree with the other guy. atleast 16gb is pretty cheap these days lol
I've had this issue in the past. This is what I do.
Put it in a full size SD adapter and push the lock switch to lock.
Plug it into my laptop via either a built in SD card slot or a USB card reader (depending on which laptop I have in front of me.)
try to delete a file (it should tell me it's locked)
eject the card by right clicking on the drive and choosing eject
flip the lock switch back to unlocked
Plug it into my laptop via either a built in SD card slot or a USB card reader
try to delete a file
It usually lets me at that point and then I can format it via the phone. I did have one instance where I was never able to get it out of locked mode and I had to buy a replacement.
Good luck.
I have the same issue right now and i've been using an sd adapter and my laptop's reader all the time.
I coppied all my files on a folder and i'm doing a format right now (not quick)... :fingers-crossed:
Have you tried a pc with Linux or a Mac? I'm pretty sure that'll work!
I' ve fixed it but later on it got me the same msg again... So i had to transfer my files from my Mac. But i' ve found out that the transfer from recovery is working even if i can't transfer via the card reader of my laptop...

[Q] videos to ext sd

Is it possible to copy videos stored on n10 to an external SD card?
1) Hook both the the N10 and the SD card up to your computer and copy.
2) Use Stickmount and an OTG cable to copy them.
Thanks, but, looking for a direct solution without use of a computer.

Then use Stickmount with an OTG cable. Plug an SD Card reader into the OTG cable and put your SD Card in it.

I actually have an issue with the SD card - i'm not able to write to it. It is mounted through stickmount and is shown in any explorer ( but not in the storage though) however I can't write to it (nor it is showing the content). I can 'read' the content using Nexus media Importer, but that's pretty much it
Any suggestions?
(i have rooted nexus 10)
Use FAT32 as filesystem. If you intend to store large videos (>4GB), you will have to split them into multiple linked files (using MKVtoolnix for example).
Is FAT32 the recommended way to go with sdcards as a general rule, or just in the OP's case?

fat32 is the read and write format for otg and ntfs is read only. So ya I would recommend fat32.

[Q] Can't Transfer Big Files to Internal/External SD Card After Rooted

Hi all, I just got my Note 3 N-900 Exynos few days ago and I decided to root it. Before it's rooted I can transfer big size files (100mb-700mb) to my internal/external SD card without any problem. But after it's rooted now I can't copy files around those sizes anymore. Anybody know what's wrong and got the solution for this issue? Any help will be much appreciated.

If you typically use USB 3.0 then it might be the 5 minute timeout. Try a large file with USB 2 and see if it completes.
Frank
What do you mean? I just plugged in the stock usb that came with the phone to my pc and copy-paste the files. Not sure whether it's the 3.0 or 2.0 usb. When I paste it suddenly the explorer force closing.

I would try a SD Card reader from Best Buy, you should have no problem transferring files with the card out of the phone. it plugs into the computer similiar to a flash drive, and you can access the micro card with a reader.

Yes I do have a micro sd card adapter so I can plug it in to my pc as a removable disk. But it's annoying that I have to unmount my sd card, take it off my phone, put in in the adapter and then plug it in the pc everytime I want to transfer files to my phone.

No I didn't format both internal and external sd card. You think formatting them is a possible solution for this issue?
none
You wont format the internal, just the external. I can only tell you it worked for me, make a folder for your files, move them off the card, format and put them back on
