Possibly the most beautiful piece of equipment you will ever see!
This jig was made out of bits n bobs I could find in my garage. I only made it quickly and was going to order one instead but I'm off work with a broken foot so made this beast this morning. :/
Oh and it comes with a case!
[UPDATE] mk1.5 has arrived. Take a look at this beautiful piece of equipment. I think I could charge at least 20p for it If i was to sell it. What do you think?

Very nice!! Your clearly a Sparky by trade mate? Lol. I love those little monsters you often end up with (only a mother could love springs o mind) after muttering the fateful words....
"I've got the time, how hard can it be?"
A little bit of the heat shrink tubes hiding , some not all though, of the metal will take it from industrial art to polished prototype .... ?
I'd also be interested in you doing a photo rich tut so we the home viewers can play too?

srry but i want to ask about a component that i didn't see it before
that black circle connected to the resistance parts and the usb part ???
i know that it is only made by 301 k resistance as total and usb part

Yea I'm a Sparky. Its much more satisfying in making something rather than buying one.
Hmm heat shrink would be a good touch but I don't think I got any. I could always strip some insulation off some cable and use that instead though.
I'm thinking of putting this bad boy on YouTube and showing it off in action lol. I'll post a link here when I do.

Ah that is a variable resistor. I used that because the other 3 resistors didn't equal to 301k ohms. So with that I could adjust it to 301k perfectly.
Oh and its adjusted using a screwdriver.
Bit rough with all them wires compared to a real USB recovery jig .

That's pretty bloody amazing, in its own twisted never should have been born into this world kinda way

Love it! I use two jumbo binder clips held together with tape and a rubber band, lol. Office kludges ftw.
i changed the smd 0603 leds under the home, back and menu buttons. (soldering looks more messy in my picture).
very easy to do if you have had experience with 0603 components. what do you guys think.

The plan was to check using the led I took off(they have a tiny arrow on the bottom.) But also the board is marked under the led with a bracket to show the negative. So just solder the led with the arrow aiming towards that
I don't have a streak... yet... but this mod is sweet. So much better then seeing white all the time... makes me wonder if there is a way I can do similar on my hero.
Thanks for the info on polarity arrows for SMDs as well. Thats once less thing to google now!

sorry but the logical question that comes to my mind is ....why ??
I thought different led's drew different amps thus requiring you to also swap out the resistors.

in a week I'm gonna be going to a concert. I need to get my phone waterproof prior to the concert. I'm gonna go cheap easy and efficient. my initial idea was use 2 condoms just to prevent liquid from getting in on the phone. then I started to think I'll need the camera to take pictures and video but theres condoms covering the camera and taking away from the clarity. Its there any easy easy way to achieve this.

Isnt there lube in most condoms ? Wouldn't that mess up something? It's been a while since I used one, probably explains my three kids existing

Yes, most do. But, you can get "dry" condoms. Problem with those is that they really aren't clear.
Double seal ziploc bag would do the OP better.
(see, this post/thread has nothing to do with modding...hehe)
Yeah.. I was going to say not go the the ones with lube lol...
That would be funny
A good clean Saran Wrap job may work. Its Cheap to try. Test it out. It may cost you a few feet of clear plastic wrap. a couple layers may do the trick
shrink wrap like you put over your window in the winter time at least those of us who live up north

Funny but you might have better luck burning the seams closed with a lighter rather than trusting the ziplock itself old school baggie style

A vacuum sealer (the ones for food)...they heat seal. Or dip it in hot wax. (No seriously...don't do that).

yeah, shrink wrap would work well. I used to mess with one at my old job, if you find a place that shrink wraps, they might even be nice and just do it for you, I imagine you can still use the touch screen without difficulty too. What on EARTH is intended to happen at this concert? I've been to a few with my vibrant and it was never at any risk of being submerged in water?? Ha

Well, sounds like all he wants to do is avoid it getting wet from rain. And it would do the trick. But, these would do it even better. I know for a fact that these work, as I have used them before when kayaking.

10 pack of springs
Small Phillips Screwdriver
Set of Safe Open Pry Tools
Void stickers for the squeamish

Wow!! Your hinge looks amazing! I just ordered the t5 screwdriver kit. Once I receive it, I will be attempting this.
I still need the springs, but I'm debating on ordering the 10 pack or not.

I wish there was a cheaper spring solution, I stretched mine, but it's still kinda loose. I don't have the $6 to spend on a spring, I had to search for change to get a T5 bit from Ace Hardware, and that was $2
Just a little update - after a day of full use, the phone seems more solid with the keyboard CLOSED; No wobbling at all. It really does feel like a one-piece device until you slide it open, and the clicking sound that the sliding makes really makes it feel good in the hand
Wow thanks for doing that and providing a link to the parts! My only gripe is that to get all the tools and parts, it will cost about $38. I wish we didnt have to spend that to get the phone to operate the way it was intended. Not to mention having to risk the phone not working because we had to take it completely apart.

The wobbling screen bothers me way more than the loose hinge, so much that the hinge doesn't bother me at all. I just don't understand why the screen can't sit flush to the base.

Red cells have hemoglobin, a protein(metallo-protein actually). The hemoglobin forms has an affinity for oxygen and it forms oxyhemoglobine. Besides a slight change in color ( a bit lighter than if they would be carrying CO2), you can't really see the red cells carrying oxygen.
