Housing - Galaxy S II General

Does anyone know if the metallic part of the housing on the front, around the digitizer is part of the antena or something?
I wanted to change the case, which is all black. Just wanted to know.

The faceplate is just that, a faceplate.
Its a huge PITA if not almost imposable to detach the screen/digitizer from the glass/faceplate, so you may end up replacing the whole lot which is about $150/£120.

Pain In The Ass

oh...thanks.

The metal / dark chrome around the screen was damaged on my phone due to a drop. I have carefully sanded it off, and revealed a black colour housing, which is easy to polish if scratched. The metal, although looks great was annoying.
Saved me changing the housing. Personally it looks better with the black.

Solution to Peeling Black Trinity

Ok,
The solution is simply to apply a thin layer of nail polish on the problematic areas.
This is unseen and solves the problem.
This works fine!
Nadavi.
are u suggesting a grey nail varnish ? or a clear one before the paint starts peeling?
Yes
yes, Before it starts peeling.
Nadavi
may be it will stop peeling of painting.. I am not saying it will not, but will definitely invalidate device warranty.
i don't see how it can damage the warranty.
NAdavi
don't think the invalidated warranty will be a major issue in the UK, since it appears that it's not worth the paper it is written on
applying any permanet layer of chemical substance can lead to refusal to repair device under manufacturer's waranty.
Your milage may vary...
you can't even see it...it's a one millimeter transparent nail polish...its external and if you really want to you can peel it with your nail (its not easy but it can be done).
this is not an irreversible process.

How about peel it all off so it's nice and shiney?
Any suggestions on how to do this safely? Mine is peeling a little bit...but I think it's getting worse day by day.
Sugar cube?
Well...i'm a total n00b at this. I love the P3600 but noticed the peeling and joined on the forum to get some ideas. Has anyone done this already with photos to see what it looks like? The thought of sending it in for a few weeks seems totally crazy. Plus, I bought it from some small phone store that doesn't seem totally up on repairs and the like. Prefer to take care of it myself.
you can use sugar cube to scratch the painting off. it will not damage the underlying layer of paint. Old trick, but works well.
anyone have any pictures of after the sugar cube trick or with the nail polish on?

so is there or is there not a spring? if not, are there really magnets holding the screen in place?
Holy cow. I hope you have a backup G2 lol.
is that made out of plastic or metal?

i read thats its made out of rubberized plastic with metal backing. though can't confirm since i have yet to get mine
The bezel around the screen is metal as is the battery/sim/sd card compartment panel.
The rest as a nice ruberized coating that won't flake nor chip like the Vibrant/Etc family of phones.
Of couse, I got a cover for it anyway, but still, the build quality is really nice. I am a little worried about the hinges, but given the track record of the G1, I am not all that worried.
My only real gripes so far:
1. Screen Brightness...
2. To change the SD Card or the SIM, the battery must be removed.
3. Battery life... but this is something I can tweak but I used 80% of my batter in about 4-5 hours.
Anyway, I do like the phone and I have 14 days to decide if I will keep it.
What problem are you having with the screen brightness?

there are no magnets in any htc phones because of the compass... and magnets can damage board parts...

it seems the bezel has a poor paint layer

well that is what I was afraid of when I bought the note, the paint job of the bezel disappointed me, especially at the headphone plug, it seems that the paint job is really poor, i ended noticing that the paint started to flicker, what a disappointment i hope that it will not get bigger.
I almost knew from the start that it would flake easily especially at weak points like plug in areas, i wish to know how to fix it, but i saw some video and taking it appart is hell, maybe i should consider giving it a brushed look bezel

I've had my Note for around 3 months.
2 weeks back I was sick, having fever, throat & ear infection.
I took a visit to the hospital and unfortunately dropped the phone whilst sitting down.
I was so sick & weak the phone slipped whilst in my hand.
Thankfully the damage was minimal. The only minor mark was on the upper left hand corner of the bezel, a slight discolouration.
I too would like to change my bezel.
Would you be kind enough to post a link to a video which shows how to dismantle the bezel & then put back?
Thanks.

Yes.dont use hard case.if u have to put case on it use them rubber cases.
are you sure that its easy to replace the bezel, are there no wires or stuff to take apart when changing the bezel. So its only removing the 9 screws.

My first Note went for a swim with me in salt water so naturally I tried a few things to get it working again, including removing as many components as possible. The bezel is part of the back cover that the battery sits snug against on all edges, and if you use both thumbnails to separate the screen from this bezel/backplate then it should come off after a bit of manipulation.
IMO it's not worth replacing as one mistake will cause another mark and you'll never be satisfied with it unless it's as new. I've found that only after you get a few nicks and bumps that you actually use it like it's meant to be - used. It's not being careless but spending more time using it than being super cautious is where it's at.

If you haven't taken it apart there is NO WAY there can be dust "IN" the screen, it's hermetically sealed.
If you have scratches, just replace it, there are numerous guides out there but google is HARD, isn't it.
So here you go http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-895937.html
First link in google and you don't even have to leave the forum.

There is way! Well, maybe not in the screen but I have something somewhere under my glass in the top left corner too. Maybe not as bad as on the picture in this thread but in the right angle and light it's very visible.

Trust me, it isn't. At least not in all of them. The digitiser & screen are separate, not hermetically sealed to each other at all. They're cheap Chinese phones, little manufacturing defects are common. Small gaps that dust can get into are common, the back light leaks out of the side of my blade, I can see a gap, it shines out quite bright in the dark, I think I'm just lucky the gap isn't on the other side of the screen. My last blade (that broke) got a bit of dust under the screen (between the screen & digitiser), so far this one has avoided it.
You need to be careful if you're taking the blade apart, there are some delicate parts. The ribbon cable that connects the digitiser is a bit fragile.

I think there is something different between the GEN3 phones and others on this too.
The digitizer and the screen are fused together by a vaccum seal on my phone, it takes quite a bit to pry them apart and i can promise you that no dust could possibly get in there.
I think you're referring to white spot edge, a common phenomenon on backlit LCD's, it sounds just like it, i use hot glue mixed with water colour to fix that on on second grade items i might buy off the ... market...

Well, maybe there is on some of the versions, my apologies for assuming too much.
But now you have a guide to use to take it apart.

[Q] Bezel Replacement VS980

Hey guys. I was an idiot this morning and dropped my phone a whole 2 feet. Landed on it's bottom and now the bezel has dents in it. I'd like to try and replace it. Does anyone know a good site where I can buy parts? I was looking on eBay but everything I found seems to be white. Could someone point me in the right direction? I think it's the bezel that's damaged. I'm attaching an image. Any help is welcome.

it probably would but changing the digitizer is a difficult job because there is a pretty high risk damaging the screen when removing it if you font know what youre doing.
