[Q] Can one SBF to froyo from OTA ginerbread? - Droid X General

Having read the linux sticky
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1020203
the answer is not-obvious.
I am stuck in pre-firmware-flashing limbo
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1244248

Yes. The 1 kds disc will work. There is also a 1 click method to automatically root 602. Go to droidmodderx.com Has the file and drivers needed below his video.

+1 on KDS. I did the OTA upgrade first from rooted Froyo - couldn't manage to get rooted after that so I used the KDS linux iso to SBF back to Froyo .340. I see now that there's a .602 1 click root solution - search d3 1-click root

[Q] Trying To Root DX 2.2

Droid Newbie Here, trying to Root my DX on original 2.2, I am trying to root on the easier 1-2-3 Droid Root, and I even went onto youtube, and saw the video by Dark Onion on how to do this, I followed the instructions step by step, and I get this error message
Ok, here is what I get now, "Error 06, Failed To Give Proper Permissions System File" Root Failed.
Any suggestions as how to fix this?
Thanks!
You need to search for the droid 2 or rageagainstthecage. Its a adb method. I think its only way to root 2.2

Droid X stuck in BootLoader!!! help!!!

Alright, so I rooted my droid and couldn't figure out to unroot it, so I Googled it and found out how to get the 2.2.1 OTA. I followed the guide on Droid Life and now I'm stuck in the bootloader. I'm totally lost...But I can tell you exactly what the boot loader says:
Bootloader
30.03
Err:A5,70,70,00,1F
MEM_MAP Blank
Service Req'd
Battery OK
OK to Program
Connect USB
Data Cable
That's it...All I really want it to be completely unrooted with 2.2.1 on my Droid X. Can somebody please help me/point me to a guide that could help resolve these issues?
Thank you so much!!

well pull your batt and see if it will boot up if it will not it and you never flashed the leak or took the ota as of yet then you can still use the 2.2 sbf and then once you get going update with the .340 ota and you will be unrooted on 2.2.1,here is the 2.2 sbf with instructions if needed
http://www.mydroidworld.com/forums/...droid-x-2-2-full-sbf-leaked-download-now.html
now remember you can only use this if you never flashed the .320 leak or took the .340 ota yet and if you did then you need to use those sbf

I believe that you will have to SBF to .621.

When you say you upgraded to gingerbread how exactly did you go about it...if you took the ota upgrade then you're most likely on .621 and you'll have to use the .621 SBF file but if you used on of the methods where you flashed a zip file or two in CWR then you should be able to just use 1KDS's Linux SBF method and you should be up and running again. But if you did do the ota and are running .621 then DO NOT by any means use any other SBF then the .621 SBF or you'll be back in the same spot you're in now.

Please bear in mind, there are different SBFs for 30.03 and 30.04 bootloader version. Be aware of that when you download the .sbf file.

how to root vibrant 2.2

is there any way on how to root the vibrant on android 2.2?? im trying to root it to put stock android
As far as I know you don't need to root your device to flash rom, just use stock rom .tar file and flash it with Odin; works for me while changing from stock 2.1 to stock 2.2.
And if you want to root your Vibrant anyway, use One Click Root.
That would definitely be the easiest way is to odin back to 2.1, and then root using one click root/unroot program. That's what I done. Took all the guess work out of it all, and I'm currently running Bionix 1.2......sooooooo much better than stock 2.2
is there a video on how to use odin??
MIght want to start here.
http://www.google.com/search?rlz=1C...ome&ie=UTF-8&q=how+to+flash+vibrant+with+odin
i did this, but im not sure if they are showing how to flash it back to 2.1 or not

Click on Superuser in my signature and download it. Put it as update.zip on your internal SD card and boot into recovery. Hit reinstall packages, let it cycle through and hit is again. Reboot and check for Superuser.apk in your app drawer. Go to market and update it. Might have to user the update fixer too.
See the Noob Guide stickied in the Q&A section for more info.

You can't root 2.2 on Vibrant by using the normal update.zip method. I forget exactly why, but it has something to do with Samsung changing the recovery verision from 2e to 3e or something like that.
A lot of the new people in the Vibrant forum don't know everything the original vibrant owners did, and a lot of the original Vibrant owners are no longer in this forum. Moved on to new phones.
Anyway, if you want to root 2.2 you can just make life easy and go into the dev section and find "rooted deodexed stock 2.2 kb5." Install that if you want a stock rooted 2.2.
However, to go back to 2.1 eclair, you don't need to be rooted. Just use odin to go back to 2.1. Just make sure if you have voodoo installed that you disable it first.
odin is easy and safe to use, as long as you put the pit file in the pit section, the tar file in the tar section, and you don't mess with anything else that is unnecessary.

I rooted on a 2.2 but now that I think of it, my ROM was from Cincinnati Bell and not T-Mobile.
Superoneclick has never worked for me on any phone but has worked for many others. YMMV Best bet though is to get the ROM Samsungvibrant mentioned above and use that, or flash any number of other ROMs out there.

True. Unless you don't do your research, you can brick your phone. And even if you do, you can still unbrick. I did this every once in a while for fun (I know, bad idea, but I wanted to test it).

You can't always unbrick, trust me. I've bricked a Vibrant, and a SGSII.. there are things you can do with odin that are only recovery by HARDWARE jtaging your device (because it's hard bricked).
thanks.i was searching for this.. i am using custom rom and i know that one day i will want to turn to stock rom
I wanted to root my Vibrant (SGH-T959), which was on FROYO.UVKB5 as updated via Samsung Kies.
The latest versions of Superuser wouldnt root it, but the older version Superuser 1.9.1 would (you will get an error the first time. Retry and the root will complete).

Yeah, you just have to SBF back to .340 or .320; .340 didn't work for me but .320 did. This link provides the files you need to download and explains how to do it.

there is one out already comes pre rooted and another version that is pre rooted and deodexed
I mean when can we expect to be able to root within GB itself, without having to sbf if I already am in GB.
semi related;
if anyone needs to flash a SBF on a 64 bit Windows OS the .sbf file will need to be in the root directory of your main hard drive (C:/) and you will need to SHIFT+RIGHT CLICK your RSD Lite shortcut and run as admin
putting this up here because it took me a few google searches to figure it out...

People are working on this, it has proven to be more difficult than anyone thought. So I wouldn't be surprised if it takes a while.

I SBFed and used the pre-rooted version from P3Droid. I can get root apps to work like Titanium Backup. But when I go to adb I am at the $ and adb remount won't work. When I type su I get access denied. Any thoughts?
Edit: Nevermind, tried su again and the screen asked me for permission. I'm good.
Just SBF, if you haven't done it yet then now is the time, if you can't handle an SBF then you shouldn't really be modding your phone :-/ dont mean to sound harsh but really its a basic procedure and you WILL eventually need to do one.
Either way I would just go back, update to the rooted build, and trust in TBH. They will not leave us hanging and they will probably be able to keep us rooted through any official updates.

Not entirely true, at least in my experience on Win7 x64. For me it has been hit and miss. I have never had the sbf on c:\ and have sbf'd successfully at least 50+ times. Typically the sbf file is on my desktop or lately in a folder on the desktop because the temp files annoy me while its in progress.
What I have found is running RSD Lite 4.8 in XP compatibility mode seems to be th best bet. Since I started this, I have 6 sbf's without a fail. Prior to that it was just hit and miss taking 1-4 attempts to get it to sbf completely.

[Q] Rooted Before .621 OTA Now Back on .604

Here is the deal. I was rooted before .621 when .621 hit I let it update me and used it for quite awhile. Now I'm getting the urge to go to a custom ROM. I followed the steps to get back to SBF .604, it's running great and my radio is AOK.
But for the life of me I can't get root back now. I've tried Pete's way on my Linux box and I get errors. I've checked my phone to see what's going on and when I adb I'm getting $ instead of #.
I've even tried z4 just to see if it would work, it can't do it either.
What is doing to be my best way of getting root back? I looked in my bin and sbin and I don't see su in there.
Here is what I'm running on DX
4.5.604.MB809.ACG-nTelos.en.US
Model Number Milestone X
Android Version 2.3.5
Any help is appreciated. I have access to Linux and Windows 7.
