Root Explorer and junk files - Atrix 4G General

Hey ladies and gents I rooted my atrix and even learned how to change the splash boot animations and now I am ready to use root explorer to clean my phone of junk files and left over files left over from un installed files. Do you have a list or for way of telling which files to delete without messing up my ATRIX?? Thanks

bloatware

how do i remove blockbuster? etc? do i have to root?
sorry for asking dumb question. i am new to android and a new verzion customer
IF you've rooted your phone, then the easiest way is to buy Root Explorer (trust me it's worth the couple bucks) and navigate to /system/app and find blockbuster.apk or whatever it's called. Click mount r/w and longpress, then delete it. Or rename it to .bak instead of .apk
There is another way to do it using ADB, but if you're new to Android it's probably a bit more complicated than buying the app. If you wanna know how to do it on adb just let me know.
edit: Also, welcome to the Android side.
lol thanks....
i think i already rooted. im using DroidXRoot to rooted the driod x. i just install root explorer and its not working.
blockbuster.apk cannot be renamed because the file system is read-only.
Do you guys know where the files for the bloatware 3G Hotspot are? I would prefer to use wifi tether vs the included app.

Hide it then. You don't HAVE to use it.
Also when you get the read only message, as was previously stated, you have to mount it as r/w rather than read only.

Just watch out what you delete...I wasn't able to update to froyo because it was missing system apps. I ended up having to reinstall the system apps and resetting all of the permissions.
Now I just use LauncherPro to hide stuff. If you are dead set on removing them though, I am sure most of us would recommend only renaming the apk files instead of deleting. While you can definitely reinstall them, it tends to be a pain. Also, I heard that removing some apps would cause a boot loop. Haven't experienced it myself, but something to watch out for I guess.
Use launcher pro to hide as well

I accidentally deleted the Conversations.apk... for future reference how do you reinstall system apps and reset permissions?
Thanks in advance,
Brandon
Instead of renaming or deleting apps/bloatware, just use "Titanium Backup" donate version and you can freeze apps/bloatware so they don't load up. This way if you want to update the phone later, you don't have to worry about things you deleted that need to be on the phone for the update to work.

Finding Droid X bloatware files

Hey I have 2.2.1 Android version and 2.3.340 Sytem version on my Droid X and I need some help. When I first rooted my X I very quickly uninstalled all the bloatware that I didn't want bc I didn't know that you could just keep it and rename it. Now I have Root Explorer and I have the capability of renaming files, but I'm missing a TON of bloatware. Do any of you guys have link directing me towards a place where I can download those missing files? Thanks!

Did you make a backup before you. Started your install spree
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Unfortunately, no. I'd already uninstalled a few apps before I made my first backup. Yeah, I know....stupid, right? Lol.

Lol I'm pretty new at all this but I'm sure you could find a stock rom and flash it on your dx. Search around. I'm sure your not the only
One whose done this. If not you can get the apks for em

I sent you a PM like 5 minutes after you posted this...
Check it?
Yes I recieved the pm. Thanks for the help!

Okay, so I've got the file now that has all the stock droid x apps on it. I tried to copy and paste the apps from my sd card to system/apps. Unfortunately that crashed my phone and I had to flash back to my backup ROM. What did I do wrong?

you cant just copy the files over.
you need the apk and the odex files
then you need to change the permissions to rw-r-r and install it
then you need to reboot
i would SBF and start over renaming them to bak or try a custom ROM thats 10x better than stock like apex, darkslide or if you prefer ASOP then Liberty.
You'll have to excuse my ignorance, but what's sbf? Lol.

Oh, and after reading your helpful info on changing the permissions I still wasn't able to install some of the files. So, a few questions:
#1- What folder do I need the files to be in before I try to install the apps?
#2- Do the still end up in /system/app like all my other apps once I install them?
#3- Why would an app like for instance "friendfeed.apk" say "Aplication not installed" after I click on "install"? Bc that's what a lot of my apps are saying when I try to install them.
Please help! I'd rather install each of these apps 1 by 1, THEN rename them, instead of completely returning my phone to stock, customizing it (ringtones, apps, wallapapers), THEN rooting it again, installing the rest of the apps that I can't run without Superuser access, and THEN renaming all those files. Ugh, this is a pain in the butt. Please give me step by step instructions on how to do this (move "x" file and "y" file to folder "z", etc....). I'm a noob at this so I need it basic. Thanks!
Back up your contacts to your Google account and return your phone to stock. All your apps can be redownloaded from the "my apps" section of the market once you sign in w/ your Google account. Your contacts will also be resynced. It's a piece of cake. And rooting with z4root is so, so, so, easy.

Ugh....I was trying to avoid returning it to stock. I've got all my ringtones and stuff customized. Is there no way to leave my phone as is and just put the files back on there?
Also, would just doing a factory data reset put all the stock apps back on there? Or do I have to do more?

[Q] Extracting HTC Widgets

Could someone tell me where the HTC Widget apk's are stored on the phone. My "get more htc widgets" no longer works so I'm going to pull the ones I want off my friends Evo and move them to mine. I'm looking for "Tasks" and "Tip Calculator". Thank you.
You should be able to just back up the apk. They should be stored in /data/app
You can install them normally, you don't have to push them to /system/app since they weren't system apps to begin with. Unless they're protected, you should be able to get them with any backup app. If they are protected, you'll have to use a root backup app or get them with Root Explorer. If they're protected, they'll be in /data/app-private

[Q] (Q) 188 Pages--Where it It?

I am trying to get a list of the system file names so I can remove things like the Chinese keyboard and other installed apps I will never use like Google+. Even a list of what not to remove should work.
I tried different search terms and came up empty.
I am a little OCD when it comes to junk on my PCs and just want it all gone from my 7.
I did order an OTG cable from Amazon that was recommended in another thread and it works great.
Using an app like root explorer, navigate to /system/apps
Delete anything you don't want from there, but be careful!
Have a backup ready if you delete something important

I guess I will look at the files and if it's something I'm unsure of, I'll ask.
I would definitely back it up first. Thanks.

Help

So my stock messaging app decided ton leave my device and not come back. Could someone please pull theirs off of their device and post it so I can place it back on to my device. And would there be a special way to put it into the system apps folder or can I just stick it in there using root explorer?
Thanks

Reflashing works. Or if you have a deodexed zip take it out there *extract it* then just put it on your phone and through root explorer put it in the system/app. Reboot usually helps to make sure it comes back.
