I am going to switch to a new ROM (one of the MccM builds once I know which one to use!) after CoreDroid crashed on me (SD builds)
There are some apps I like cooked into CoreDroid for which I see the apks are in the Android Apps folder.
Can i just copy these apks into the same folder on the new ROM and will they be installed/work from 1st boot or is it not that straight forward?
yes u can copy them into the zip befor flashing ...but dobt copy mutch or the file will be big for the partition ...i tried one and it wouldnt boot but when i deleted some of the apps i copied it booted ...or just usr titanium backup to save all ur apps

The easiest way is to use titanium backup (free on the android market but you probably have it already).
yes but sadly Titanium is one of the apps permanently crashed on current build
You can copy the apks like you said and install them on your new rom. Just do it after flashing and do not copy them to the system folder.... but your data will be lost this way.

sorry i got confused by what you just said. if i copy the apk to the android apps folder, when i do a first boot will they not be installed to this build?
if not, how do i do it then please?
you copy the apk to your sd card and install them normally on your new build by selecting the apks in a file explorer.

When switching to a different build do I just swap out the android folders on my SD card? Is their way to keep all my apps and stuff?
just delete your current Android folder and replace with your new one and if you want to backup your apps and settings you could use MyBackupPro or Titanium backup form Marketplace although Titanium backup is said to have some issues. But seriously though, you need to do some more searching before you make a thread
Look in your build's thread. Some builds will have instructions for updating a new version. Usually if you are updating to a new version of one build you can just swap the contents of the android folder minus the data.img. I would suggest titanium backup if you are moving to a completely new build.
Every time that I flash a new NAND build (almost every day), I find myself at list one hour seating and installing all the apk files on my sd card.
Is there a way to install all the files on the first boot ? to save them on one folder and on the first boot android will install all of them ?
I know that in SD card builds it's possible.
Please advice.
No, that's not possible. It was a feature of SD builds only.
Why not use Titanium Backup to backup all your apps and data, and the restore them all with just 1 click (if paid - lots of clicks if not!)
Or keep your apps on a rom with ext partition support.
Backup in nandroid, wipe, install new rom, reboot cwm, restore backup where you can choose, select SD ext part.
Reboot, enjoy not having to install all your apk files

i just got my HD2 repair but i think they just gave me new one cuz my old one had a nick on the top left corner and this one doesn't (bigger bonus)
the point it that the phone is 100% stock but i reflashed HSPL and MAGLDR
but at the moment i don't have an SD card so i can't do anything with Android Recovery , and i found the Desire S Build but its only CWR flashable
so
my
question
is
...
is it possible to convert a CWM android build to a DFT flasher
With magldr 1.13, you can flash cwm srraight to nand, no need for sd card

Problem is that CWM requires SDcard to flash.
Would be nice if there's a CWM-to-DFT converter. Or maybe I just dont know about it?
that would be the best,
There's no possible way to convert .zip files to DFT ones as of yet. I doubt there ever will be too.
Why don't you just buy a cheap 4GB SD card or something?
i was thing of extracting the files of the zip and then converting the system folder and the recovery folder into iso's and then finding a dft build and replacing the iso's in the folder with the iso's i made

i asked exactly that a day or two ago, but the meta inf folder aparently contains symbolic link info that wouldnt get integrated when you converted the system folder into an img.

Extracting the system folder from CWM zip wont work. Its because during the zip installation the updater script is beeing called and it creates a lot of symlinks. So, if you just extract and convert, you will miss the whole bunch of symlinks (and permissions, etc..)

There is a simple one click daf to cwm converter, HERE, perhaps it can be reversed? (i dont have time to look at that stuff,) .. the bat file is a simple set of commands, perhaps run the commands in reverse (using the appropriate tools, should they exists, , spare few hours anyone?)
that's what i was thinking but when you go from img to zip it doesnt have the META folder , so maybe with some builds its possible
It does have the Meta info, its in a folder in the img2cwm tools folder.
so is it possible to go from CMW to DFT????
Flashed MikG last night from a stock EVO. All went well. Used Titanium to restore some of my programs but others that were on the SD card I don't want any longer and I'm sure there's data on that SD card that is now not used and just taking up space. My question: Is there a way to safely clean unwanted stuff off an SDcard?
Maybe a better option would be to install a new, blank SDcard, let the ROM configure it and then use Titanium backup to reinstall only the programs that I want?
go to the folder named titanium and erase the files for the apps you dont want anymore, also look on the root of the sd card for folders created by this apps, they are usually named like the apps

So unlike an OS you can just delete the apps folder on the SDcard?
I just got a new SDCard. If I installed that blank card I take it the ROM would configure it ok or do I need to copy anything over from the old SDcard first? I'd like to start off with a clean SDcard and then reinstall my apps.
i do it all the time never had any problems, just make sure you don't do that to any off the sprint bloat folders, you leave those alone and sprint apps you just freeze not uninstall you never know when you might need them, plus if you freeze them and your phone starts acting weird you can always defrost them, but if you uninstall them and it acts up you got trouble.
I have installed Nandroid 2.3 thru clockworkmod recovery 2 month ago.
1. How should i take a backup of this OS?
2. And the zip folder through which i had installed 2.3 should i delete that from my SD Card? Also there are many other files like zImage, Readme.txt, log.txt, initrd.gz...cam i delete these too?
3. Previous to running Nandroid 2.3 i was running 2.2 through SD Card. Can i delete that folder too?

1. You can back up via CWM > back up and restore > back up
2.The zip file is needed for the installation. You can delete it, but the other files - NO.
3.The folder of previos rom - if you don't need it ... delete it to. She was for other rom. Now your rom is running from NAND.
