i was having a problem when playing hd games .... the device got very hot and the battery temp reaches about 45
finally i solved this problem using tegrak to set cpu speed to 200 min : 800 max
no heat any more
but i need to ask is it safe to change it in games only and return it normal (1200 mhz) all times and return it back to 800 when playing games ??
Shouldn't be a problem doing that, the game might Not be as smooth or whatever though. 45 is not too high by the way, it's just scary because you can actually feel the heat on this phone more than others...

but it is a great feelings that ur phone is still cool after one hour of playing
and the game still smooth as usual no any difference
and now i m running stability test it reached 46 minutes and nothing wrong
but my Q is if i returned it to normal after gaming and return it again to 800 when playing games is there any problem or what ..... i just notice very slight difference in loading but not in performing so i dont want this difference in loading i want to use the full power of the device without heat
Jeez pal, you underclocked the CPU because temp was 45°C! What was the problem if it were 50/52 or even 55°C? Playing game is a CPU intensive task, so the phone will be hot than any other things (benchmarking included) and that is very NORMAL.
Regards.

i knwo it is normal but it is very annoying
the battery temp is 45 and may be more "48 or even 50 " and the processor temp is more for sure and the phone is very hot as it is very thin and i know it is normal but it is annoying to me and to others so i think this is a slotion for this problem
but my Q is if i returned it to normal after gaming and return it again to 800 when playing games is there any problem or what

By the way guys if u have KH3 stock rom then u have the option to under clock ur device by default
Haha very nice & neat option to save battery life & cool down the handset.
It cap the cpu on 800 mhz, I addition to under clicking the gpu as well (which kernels don't do)

u do this all the time "800 mhz" or when gaming only ?? as i prefer to leave it 1200 mhz all the time and only while games and intensive use as gps underclock to 800 te decrease heat and battery use
but need 1200 mhz performance in normal processing to perform faster

I only untick this box when I fancy:
1- rapidly discharging (battery calibration thing)
2- Showing off the amazing speed of this wonderful device
Otherwise 800 would do every other simple task like ( calling, email, games, browsing...etc)

That option does halve the GPU/graphics frame rate from 60 to 30 though, which may not be what you want in a graphics based game.

no harm in lowering the clock speed, the game just won't run as smoothly. the temps of this phone do feel alarmingly high due to the (lack of) thickness.
if it runs fine at 800mhz thats good. undervolt it too and enjoy gaming just that little bit longer

thats not really
if u tried to put it on max 800 mhz and tried benchmark u will find that the frame rate that are shown on the corner of screen during benchmark test reaches 60 and more than 60 and the lowest number shown was 50 or 48 and the total score is about 2700
if u remember the galaxy 1 or hts dhd never reached this score only if overlocked and these devices was playing games well with single core processors 1 ghz
so a dual core with 800 mhz with a 4 cores in gpu ....... powerfull result

I am not talking about setCPU here, I am talking about that Samsung "System power save" mode that KH3 has as an option. It definitely halves the gpu rate.
Running quadrant with that option off sees 60 frames/sec, running it with that option enabled sees only 30 frames/sec and if you look at the help/tips for that option you can see what it does (well, they don't give much away about what it does mind u).
Geez....
I have a car that does 150MPH. Is it safe to do only 60MPH?
It does get less hot and uses less power.

Hi. The X1 come with the QUALCOMM 7200 A CPU normally @528 Mhz. But i read somewhere that the X1 is underclocked @400 mhz for power save. Its ok if it return @528 mhz when we watch movie or listen music... But can we know if he really do that?

overclockin this processor is the the PRIMARY thing i wanna do to this phone....ANY way of doin that i'll try...
he is speaking about Underclocking not overclocking ... and why you wanna Overclock ... 528 is enough...!!!
No , i want to verify if the CPU is at 528 mhz or not.
I've see on another thread (the X1 performance thread) that the CPU is auto underclocked for save power...

my cpu monitor plugin on my today screen has never budged from 400mhz.
The plugin also has a temp reading and my xperia runs around 108F with the wifi running were it idles around 84F, 91F watching a properly converted movie (500kbps and 30fps for me) or music, and 95F when watching a movie that makes the Xperia work.

That sounds like a very handy plugin. Could you provide a link or attach it please?
I find that the back plate gets quite warm when it's on charge in the car holder and running TomTom. If I could measure how warm it's getting then I might feel okay about it.
sounds interesting aswell, the plugin.
"

oO that's crap. Its a 528 mhz cpu and we can't have a real 528 mhz? 400 is less than the iphone...
Same here. My today plug-in says 400mhz and usually the temp is between 30 and 39 degrees (celsius).
The name of the app is "wk task". It's extremely handy with tons of options. It has system tray launching options. Shows cp speed and temp, ram etc.
P.S. Did i mention you can launch programs from the system tray??? Hehe
we have a "hot" phone lol
hot in price design and temp!
Yep. But why the X1 don't run at the normal 528 mhz frequency?
It run @400 . I think we can boost him @528mhz. @400 it's slower than the iphone . In idle use ok , for save the battery , but when we watch a movie , or surf with opera 528 mhz is better...
then go this web page, www.xda-hackers.com lol
I tried using Teksoft Speedbooster to make certain apps "high priority". First one was morphgear, thinking it might bring up the fps. I cant notice any diff :-/
So I would also like to overclock the cpu (if its possible)...itje's touch-it v4 beta 6 uses even less ram than before...fantastic rom...but yet morphgear is still not running perfectly.
I will try with core player and maybe opera
Try this
Please try to connect your X1 to power supply and check CPU speed. For my previous device connected power supply caused CPU works at maximum speed.

We don't need to overclock the CPU . It will be good if the CPU run at his normal speed also @528mhz and not 400 (under the frequency of the iphone)!!!.
Also , a overclock on this type of CPU may cause overheating issues. Only 528 mhz will be a great advance on performance.
I think that the X1's CPU is underclocked @400mhz... It's bad
Yeah, thats what I meant foxvengeor, but didnt make it very clear
I would also like to bring my x1 to the proper cpu speed, rather than what it is currently. Like somebody else said, I would take a hit on the battery standby time over performance (unless it ruins either my battery of my phone).
Wow seriously? I had never heard it was underclocked.. It is advertised as 528mhz isnt it?! I mean the battery life is great as is, but I would like to see how it does at 528.. The device info control panel does say 528 though.

I dunno if I'm a bit slow or something but I just installed wk task and after aunching the taskbar from it, and looking through the settings for about half an hour, I couldn't for the life of my find anyhting to do with temperatures and/or ram/cpu or anything related.
It seems to do nothing more than work as a task manager/task bar/launcher.
I can set it as high as 1646. IV looked around and it seems that people use 1504. Is it unsafe to go any higher?
Thanks

1400 is safest I run Alexandra iii
if you go up to 1.6 GHZ, you might get SHUTDOWNS...
if you don't run any games, or apps, sure it will work. But not smart to overload it.
If on Custm ROM, Read DEV Notes, usually they'll say (or mention about Kernel changing)
as a rule I keep it on 1.5 Ghz (when 1.6 was max) (have tested on about 8-10 diff roms) (never have had any shutdowns yet)
*** also maybe use a meter app to check TEMPS (like battery TEMP)
Cool Tool - shows battery temp, RAM, Proc Freq, + more in little box on screen all the time (adjust settings)
https://market.android.com/details?id=ds.cpuoverlay
"setCPU for Root users" - underclock to lowest when off, set lower cpu freq if battery gets warmed to ur custom Degrees)
http://www.setcpu.com/
***Some custom ROM's have thier own Freq CONTROLER app (that could clash with prog or have 2 progs do the same thing)
Like humans NO TWO CPU's are equal
All of the above it true with one exception..NOT every cpu is created equal Not all ram chips and so on also live up to this..
Start over clocking your cpu slowly. as you push clocks higher of course lower voltage. This keeps heat down .
Two processors even made on the same casting can be totally different . Where one will take more heat with less errors and corruption and the die next to it will almost crash running its designed clock speeds . Being that extreme is very rare with a few exceptions. most are close as to a common ability. within a few 100 mhz.
So the answer is there is NO TRUE Answer. its trial and error but on the side of caution and testing clock speeds and heat is not a 30 second yes it runs. Do it over a week or so. I know with my dragon cup in cell phone its at its end of life from being over clocked for a few years. some last longer some die quicker.. Its kinda like drinking on your brain the more you drink the more cells you kill.. The hotter your cpu gets the more transistors fail the slower it becomes the more errors you have .
Relax .. go slow.do not expect to get what everyone else is claiming. and you will be fine..
Sorry again for long winded post..

Any is unsafe. Higher speed equals heat and heat kills semiconductors. Might work for a while but why risk it
My daughters has been running at 1.6GHz for 2.5 months without any crashing or blowing up.
I say at 1.6, you're starting to enter the "red zone", sort of asking for problems. Why go up that high? I mean, 1.5 shows enough performance improvement over the 1GHz...
How to tweak this kernel for stopping G2 from overheating? Even I lowered my CPU to 1ghz it is still overheating. :crying: please help. thanks
Hi,
What is exactly overheating for you???
Can you share your CPU/battery temperatures?
Overheating... But when? When playing a game while downloading a huge file over 4G and while charging?
viking37 said:
Hi,
Guys you realize that you have a quadcore at 2.26 Ghz... And when you play a (heavy) game or some other heavy tasks (browsing in 4G for example) it's normal that the CPU heats, right?
Temperature is very subjective without reading the CPU temp with an app, it feels hot in your hand (you can have cold hands and in this case you feel much more the heat) and it's hot because the CPU temp is about 90°C is different...
Heat and overheat (or "maximum overheating" like above ) is different too..., in any case there is a thermal throttling that prevent overheating. Our CPU shutdowns at 120°C so there is a little room... Even 80°C is nothing for the CPU...
Even 90°C for the CPU temperature is almost nothing (for the the stressed people) and there is a thermal protection in any case. Thermal throttling that reduces the CPU freq according to the CPU temp, same thing for the battery. And in case of extreme temperature -> shutdown.
And if you speak about "overheating" when playing a game or browsing while charging your phone...
Check your CPU temp with an app and report here...
It remembers me all the threads about "overheating" in the Nexus 4 forum...

After that you can try to undervolt a little (be carefull, step by step and don't set your undervolt at boot unless you're sure it's stable) and play with the thermal control by decreasing the max CPU temperature before thermal throttling...
You can use an app like Trickster Mod or Faux123 app (kernel enhancement) on the Play Store.

After playing heavy games, I can use my phone to iron clothes. lol. Well, I know it have quad core that's why I bought it. And I think having this kind of power is a disadvantage too because it heats very quickly like 10mins of heavy gaming.. And by heating it decreases the battery life.. I don't want to use this quad core phone in just browsing and watching video only, i bought this for gaming also.. lol
I don't know now where to use these quad cores.. lol... I envy my brother now, playing games smoothly on his ip5s with cool temp.. >.<
I have fauxclock and leave it to Intellithermal frequency throttle temp:80c and core throttle temp 85c. Is that ok?
Thanks :cyclops:
Re,
Hummm.....
Decrease the two temperatures of 10°C... And use Ondemand or Interactive governor with MpDesicion "on"...
Try undervolt/underclock a little... No need to underclock at 1 Ghz otherwise, right, it will lag...
But I don't think you really understand what I was trying to say... Heavy games+quadcore 2,26 Ghz+10 mins of use with that...= heat (and not overheating), are you sure there is something wrong or abnormal?
What is your CPU/battery temperatures???
And please don't compare our CPU's with the one in the Iphhone 5, it's not the same thing.

Begin with -25 mV but don't set at boot, use your phone for a day like as always (games, browsing, etc...). If you don't have reboots or anything wrong then try another step by - 25 mV. Heloo i have the same problem when i play games likeplants vs zombies my phone hetas badly imen like 70°C(160°F) and i dont think it normal in like 10 to 15 min to be like that,i have root andtrickster app instaled and i alawys check the temperature.
I know its normal for the phone to heat but not so fast i seen thrads where users reported theyre g2 doesent heat bad att all.I have cpu threshold. on ,activated it from secret men.
So please helpwith advice and youre experience with this problem.
Thank you!
Hi,
Strif3, it's normal, point. 70°C is the CPU temperature limit before thermal throttling. What can I say more??? Read my posts above...
Use your phone like you want, as usual in any case there is a thermal protection! I think that Qualcomm knows how their SoC needs to be set about thermal stuff and I think (I'm sure) you can play heavy games without any issues even if your phone is at 70°C.
If your CPU temp was at 100°C (without modifie the thermal throttling), ok maybe here there is a problem (it depends also what you are doing), but I repeat 70°C during a game and after 10 mins i's totally normal!
If you all guys are worried about the CPU temperature, stop playing games, browsing in 4G and underclock your CPU to 300 Mhz and all will be fine...

Hi guys,
I'm trying to understand how and how much thermal throttling influences my LG G2 performance while using games; to achieve this I need some app that can show me, in real time, osd on-screen-display while I'm playing, the usage of the 4 cores of the snapdragon800. I'm more interested in their frequencies than in load percentage.
I tried to search on the web, but I didn't find what I'm looking for, but, I saw a video (this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J6Z6_nx1bUU ) in which there is exactly the app I'm searching for (the one on top left "multicore usage" ... I don't know if other boxes are from the same app).
Someone knows this app's name? or can recommend me an app with the same features?
Hey!
While I don't have the knowledge of an app that does exactly what you want, I've read countless times that the SD800 starts at max load and then throttles down as the CPU gets hotter. It would be interesting to see exactly HOW much it uses.
What I've done, though, is to start playing Asphalt 8 and having a CPU monitor from Android System Tuner on my home screen. I'd then play a bit, then quickly go home and open the CPU monitor. First 5 minutes it was at 2.26Ghz, then it throttled down to 1.95 Ghz and finally after about 10 minutes it throttled down to 1.72Ghz.
Now these times arent quite precise bit it should give you and idea of what to expect. I'm more than interested in hearing what kind of results you get, so go for it!

I'm doing a similiar thing with Trickster mod to see how much time is spent on every single frequency... but it's very difficult to understand something in this way. The only thing I can say is that my snapdragon800 throttles like hell....
In 30 minutes playing:
only few seconds at 2265, 1958 and 1728 MHz (the same for 960 and 1190 MHz... I think this 2 frequencies are unused in playing)
2 minutes maximum for 1574 and 1497 MHz
Most of the playing time is at 1036 MHz and 1267 MHz....
But, generally I can't say at what frequency Thermal throttling is influencing smoothness.... this is why I need some app like computer programs such as atitraytool or msi afterburner... this is the only way to understand precisely.
However, I discovered that the benchmark used in the video of the first post, is a "Qualcomm" tech demo with built-in osd... but I'm unable to find and download it

What PVS bin is your SD800? You can check that in the hidden menu.
Keep in mind that there's another factor to determine the smoothness which you shouldn't forget - The frequency of the GPU. It might be interesting to monitor that too.
Hey for now you can try cool tool from play store which won't give multi core stats but it does display the constant change in frequency

Well PVS is basically how "good" your chip is. It is a scale from 0-6 where 6 is the best and describes how many volts your chip needs to achieve maximum frequency.
You can check it by entering (on a D802)

Then go into "Settings" AND "Version Info" - scroll down and see.
Naturally, the lower your PVS bin is, the more heat your phone will produce since it needs a higher voltage to acquire same frequency. This also means more throttling.

Well PVS is basically how "good" your chip is. It is a scale from 0-6 where 6 is the best and describes how many volts your chip needs to achieve maximum frequency.
You can check it by entering (on a D802)
3845#*802#
Then go into "Settings" AND "Version Info" - scroll down and see.

It's 4
I think it's quite good (infact I have -50mv, that is 2 steps less with trickstermod, on every frequency)
However, I found "PerfMon" here in xda... that has a floating window that monitors every single core usage and frequency (just a pity it doesn't monitor temperature...)
Also I noticed that gpu stays at 320MHz max while it should be 450 (in trickstermod it's correct)
Performance "gpu" governor works (but kills battery staying always at 450 MHz)
Simple_OnDemand "gpu" governor gets phone into bootloop
cpu throttles at 75c first ti 1.9 ghz, as the phone heats up more it will drop to 1.7. Phone will shut of at 92c.
and yes i got to 92C turning off throttling on CM and running antutu, wouldn't advice it ^_^
Weird. I found my cpu being throttled down to 1.57 ghz @ 69 degrees. Mine is pvs bin2

my s5 gets hot very quickly.. when i use it for 10-15mins (very light use checking mail and browsing).. it gets warm... when on moderate use (transfering lots of stuff on sdcard) it gets hot .... and when using a lot of apps (not even gaming).. it gets really really hot.
I installed cpu temp and I get temperatures like 60 degrees... sometimes i even get warning it's over 70 degrees.
I am on kitkat neatrom. will lollipop help with the heat? Is it actually normal? My friend has galaxy s4 mini and it does not get hot.. only warm under similar heavy load

No is not normal. Not even in games. When i was on kit kat hw accelerate h265 1080p movies only played in sw mod and then my cpu never got over 70 (and this is a ****ing cpu intensive **** for 1-2 h) and after finish the movie temp got lower immediately.
Don't use kernel others than stock!
I am on stock... I will try a stock rooted lollipop rom... I get 70 degrees at times (some peak..it's not continous i think ).. average max temp is 61 degrees celcius... is this dangerous? It's quite hot to touch the screen. Meanwhile I underclocked my max cpu freq to see how it performs.
can someone install stabilitytest and do the classic test for 5-10mins and tell me what battery temp they get? I get 36.1 - 37.5 degrees but i underclocked my cpu to 1190mhz. I feel the device being warm... top of the phone is warmest
edit: done same test on my old htc desire and the temp gets max at 33.6 to 34.6 but the device does not feel warm at all.. wdf is wrong with the galaxy s5?
It's actually the top part of the screen that is very hot to touch

in cputemp, go to changing curve to see the cpu temp monitor.
in cputemp --> settings --> you can enable cpu temp overlay.. it will show you the temp in status bar... can you tell me what do you get when idle and what do you get while doing the stabilitytest. thx

Thx for tests! So it does get pretty hot for you too on load but your battery temp is much lower than me. It is 36 to 38 for me undet load maybe thats because i am using a case? Do you feel the touchscreen very hot when doing the tests?
But normal temp is still high for me. It is 46 to 56 degrees doing just light tasks like browsing and gmail. Will try to factory reset. Maybe a nasty app causing it.
Thx again
anyone else having heat issues?are all snapdragon 801 phones that hot? I am considering selling my s5... I only had it for a few months... It's the first flagship device I bought and I am amazed that it has that kind of issues. (I also get a can't wake up issue).. unbelievable...
