Hi, im a new a500 user and wants to root, install custom ROMs and new kernals, etc. But i dont know where to start?! If someone could just give us newbies a step by step guide to get all those thing that optimize the tablet.
A guide that looks like this:
First .............. your device "link for guide".
then if u want ............, download this and follow this guide "link".
for new kernal... etc
//webspirit
Check the Iconia A500 Android Development subforum under the stickies rollup thread... should be everything you need in there
As previously mentioned, start in the Roll Up threads, and do lots and lots of reading, also the search function can be your friend!

Just got my hd2 today and looking through the boards im confused.
i understand theres new roms, loads of extensions and some critical apps but i dont know where to start.
Could someone please create a new thread thats just for n00bs, that gives an up to date guide for getting the best out of a factory fresh hd2?
im not talking about anything too specific, just the latest (or best.most stable/fastest) rom (and how to flash) and some general guidance as to the most popular apps to install off the bat (theres got to be some commonality there).
thanks guys!
there are at least three sticky guides to rom flashing on the rom development section, the hints and tips sticky in this section is also a first stop.
as to questions like"best rom"..that's a completely subjective question...everyone has their favorite.
course, if you wanna write a new guide no one will complain!
I know what you're going to say, 'WTF do we need more root guides?' But this is a complete guide which has everything in it that you need to root.
Goldcarding, Downgrading, Flashing, all in one guide!
You can find my comprehensive guide at sites.google.com/site/roothtchero
(I have roothtchero,co.uk on order)
Please give me feedback and suggestions on how to improve it and I hope this will help n00bs!
Bear in mind that even my guide is not "complete" it covers almost everything but still not 100% of cases - hence why forum responses are necessary to help the minority of users through ... and having them register for another forum isn't the way to get users on your side...
My opinion is that your guide isn't particularly easy to navigate or as clear as it could be.
Hi,
I have run a guide on the ZTE Blade on MoDaCo right from the initial launch of the device.
The guide at MoDaCo (I can't link because I am too new on this forum) is designed for new users to understand how to get started with custom roms and is also supposed to keep all users up-to date with the new ROMS and changes to existing ROMS.
The Question I have - I know that XDA is a big community and I believe that users would benefit from having access to my guide; should I Link to my guide from a thread here - or Keep a Duplicate thread in this forum?
Here is a non click-able link
android.modaco.com/content/zte-blade-blade-modaco-com/319831/25-dec-installing-the-modaco-custom-rom-from-scratch-and-other-roms/
It's a great guide, I read it a week ago or so when browsing for information on the ZTE Blade and it's modding capabilities and status of current custom ROMs. As an Ubuntu user I especially like the Linux specific step-by-steps
Would love to see it in "XDA markup", meaning "ported" to this forum since it would be easier to follow when you're used to this forum's style. Although, it's very easy to follow due to being well written and constructed, so you'd have to weigh that against the pain keeping two versions in sync.
Dunno what forum policy is regarding just linking to another site/forum, but I think this guide should be sticky somewhere on XDA. It would definitely keep down the numbers of questions and new threads
Hi there just got my new SGS 2 from Vodaphone ( an early upgrade ) on my SGS I follwed this guide to root and install a custom rom to it.... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=818556 .
I've had a look round and was wondering if there is a similar guide for the SGS 2 ie one that is in plain english for pepole who are stressed already lol so i can install a custom SGS 2 rom on to my SGS 2.
Thanks in advance...and to the flamers yes i did try to search
A similar guide for the SGS II to installing an SGS ROM onto it?
Step away for a while, decide what you're wanting to accomplish, then come back.
If after that you decide you just need root, [16/Nov][ROOTING/UNROOTING] Xperia 2011 Easy Rooting Toolkit [v3.0](zergRush Exploit) is all you need.
If you need something else, please, please, please read before you do something stupid, like using anything at all designed for the SGS on your SGS II.
HI there I have edited my OP.
I want to install a custom SGS 2 ROM on my SGS 2.
What custom ROM? Find the ROM you want to install, confirm it's definitely designed for the same model number phone as yours, and follow the instructions in its thread.
I was thinking about using darky rom this time round but the flashing routine looks more complicated....I was looking for a guide similar to the one in the post i linked to.
I used this guide to root my phone
before you do all of this go to your contacts and export/copy them to your sd card., so when you load a new rom on you can import them all back again if needed.
http://galaxys2root.com/galaxy-s2-root/how-to-root-galaxy-s2/
and to do a clockwork mod and back up of the standard rooted rom.
its a good idea to get titanium app to back up all of your info/apps.
once all of this is done, you can chose a different rom if you want to use one, then follow the user guide for the rom, as from what i have read, they sometimes can be different way to get them onto the phone.
hope this helps
You find a 40 step guide easier than a 6 step guide? Okay.
Well, if you've decided on the ROM you want to install, why not read through the thread and see if others found it difficult too and made it a 40 step process as well. If they didn't, and that's the ROM you want, post your question there.
lol the 40 step guide seemed easier tbh as every step was there and made reading and re reading before i did anything easier.
Im old and stoopid ....well thats my excuse and im sticking to it
I know that this is a developers forum, so I figure that I can get some good advice here. I have found this rooting procedure at android authority .com. Is it good. What is it missing
Dont need to start a new thread for what is a very popular question and has lots of other threads for it.
Suggest you try http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1399889 if you are doing this on a Winbox.
This guide is excellent as well.
