I was studying for exams, so I decided to run some videos and do some GPS tests while I was studying on both phones at the same time.
Because the Atrix has a much brighter LCD screen, I had to set the Inspire at a higher brightness than the Atrix during some of these tests so the brightness level would match up.
Also, the atrix was running Aura 1.1.3, OCed to 1.1ghz.
1 hour youtube vid
Inspire 4G - 2/3 brightness.
Airplane Mode, WIFI enabled
Start: 100%
End: 79%
Consumption: 21%
estimated life: 4hr 46min
Atrix 4G - 1/3 brightness.
Cell Radio enabled, 3G data disabled (I needed to take calls), WIFI enabled
Start: 100%
End: 85%
Consumption: 15%
estimated life: 6hr 40min!!
Pretty good! Our Atrix has about 42% greater battery life compared to the inspire at similar brightness levels, set for a well lit office setting. Lets crank up the brightness a bit, as if we were outside in the shade...
1 hour youtube vid
Inspire 4G - 100% brightness
Airplane Mode, WIFI enabled
Start: 78%
End: 47%
Consumption: 31%
Estimated life: 3hr 13min
Atrix 4G - 2/3 brightness
Cell Radio enabled, 3G data disabled, WIFI enabled
Start: 85%
End: 67%
Consumption: 18%
estimated life: 5hr 33min
Once again the Atrix proves itself. Battery life is 72% greater (!) on the Atrix at a brightness bright enough for the shade on a hot summer day.
Lets compare battery life when running the GPS:
40min GPS Test
(Running the App named GPS Test)
Airplane Mode on both phones
WIFI enabled and connected on both phones
Both phones at 100% brightness. As if you were geocaching!
Inspire 4G
Start: 42%
End: 22%
Consumption: 20%
Estimated Life: 3hr 20min
Atrix 4G
Start: 64%
End: 49%
Consumption: 15%
Estimated Life: 4hr 26min
We can geocache for nearly four and a half hours at 100% brightness on the Atrix! Incredible!
So after 2 hours of watching videos over wifi, and 40 minutes of GPS use at 100% brightness, we still have just under 50% battery life left! You couldn't even use the inspire any more if you wanted to be able to take an important call! Incredible!
Also, take a look at the GPS reception of the Atrix compared to the Inspire. Both were sitting next to a window.

So yeah, our battery life is pretty good
Should I post this on the Inspire 4G forum? =D
With the proper setup, Atrix GPS gets a lock in under 30 seconds - by far the best result I had on any Android phone.
Also, with proper setup and usage our Atrix has the best battery life.
With every phone I owned there were also countless complaints on the forums about how battery life sucks. And the truth is, it all depends on how you use it.
If you know what you are doing, you will have good battery life on any phone, and the best with Atrix.
lol the screen on inspire looks much better xD sad
funny how the battery on the inspire is so small and barely last less

Can you explain a bit more as to what the proper setup is? I seem to be having problems getting an accurate signal with my GPS and was wondering if there is something I could do to improve it....

I guess if you consider virtually double the battery life "barely" better..then I guess you'd be right

Try that: Download GPS status & toolbox from market
wait till it load
pres menu buttom

manage A-GPS calibration
press reset
That could work for you

Just trying to get a feel if my battery is normal or not.
With continuous internet usage over wifi, it takes up 30%/hr on the STOCK battery.
With the Sprint OEM Extended battery (2600mah), it only takes up 10-12%/hr.
So I'm wondering if my stock battery just sucks or if the Sprint extended battery is actually more around 3500mah...
How much battery is used with continuous internet usage for you?
I was just browsing the forums here for an hour and 44 minutes - little g reader too - and the first hour recorded roughly 11 percent of battery loss with straight use, shown in juice plotter. Screen brightness at lowest and wifi.
That said if I was popping tabs left and right and jumping around in the browser it would be a bit different. I think I was on Deadspin for maybe 15 minutes though. Dolphin Mini.
SWYPED from my SUPASONIC
I'm getting about 15% an hour on mikfroyo (undervolted htc 15). that's about what I used to get on older build roms (evio) and stock kernels.

Well, guess I enabled wifi after 20 minutes or so. Between 20-25 percent in 2 hours 10 min didn't have a full charge. Just started using juice plotter to track how little battery gets used when phone idle. Cool little app! Always so late to the party.
SWYPED from my SUPASONIC
wifi strength is excellent, i'm only 8 ft from the source (in my room). i keep the screen brightness at the lowest setting since i lay in bed and use the phone before i sleep for about 30 min.
i'm extremely surprised at the drainage of both yours with just the stock battery. maybe i should try and get an exchange through Sprint.
some more info on your setup? maybe it's a software issue. try system panel to see what's running and how much it's been running. it also gives you cpu speed which should throttle back when there is no interaction with the device.
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
i'm on Fresh 3.5.0.1 with the SBC kernel. I don't have any weird drainage issues over night, i sleep with it at 80% and wake up with it with about a <5% drop. I just have the usual apps running, nothing too crazy. All I use the phone for really is to browse the web.
I find that System Panel doesn't reallly help too much when i had a weird drainage issue a few months back, a hard data reset fixed that.

I wouldn't say meaningless. i.e. 10% drain from a 1500 mAh battery is 150 mA no matter how you slice it.

No it's not. It wouldn't be even on most Li-ion batteries in the first place, but even more so on the Evo. The firmware is programmed to oscillate between ~ 500mA and -500mA depending on voltage, all while keeping the status you see at 100%. Download Battery Monitor Widget to see this in action.
Just thought I'd give a quick review of Cyanogen Mod 7 battery life and performance.
Standby battery drain of about 1.5%/hr with 3G, backround data on, auto-sync on, wifi on, GPS on.
I've never obtained such great battery life on any stock rom or stock-modified rom (I've tried a few different ones over the last year or so)
The performance is also much better than any of the stock-based roms (no lags).
No need to create new topic for that information.

Which nightly are you using? Which kernel?
After a night my Galaxy S is always dead. I solved the problem disabling 3g connection and sync. Stock rom 2.3.3 and semaphore kernel.

Sorry to say but useless thread. Just keep the damn charger always near you and battery life wont matter.

haha I had the same thought
I used to always hear about CM7 having god-awful battery life. I don't know if people were lying or if they fixed some major bugs, but I certainly have no complaints about my phone's battery life (running CM7, of course). I get through way more than a day.

That's my current battery stats. Haven't used the phone too much the last little while, but getting over 24 hours is not uncommon—I actually very rarely see my phone last for under 24 hours, and that's usually because of 5+ hours of screen on time. For that battery, I'd say about 75 texts, 30 minutes of phone calls, and about 30-60 minutes of web browsing. Fairly light use, but nevertheless, the battery life on CM7 is nothing to complain about.
EDIT: Looks like something was causing a wakelock the last ~6-8 hours while I was asleep, causing my phone not to deep sleep. If that hadn't of happened, it would still have quite a bit more battery (when I went to bed it was 44%, so it shouldn't have dropped to 27%—it should have dropped to ~40%). This just proves my point even more: battery life on CM7 is not bad at all.
seriusly?
do you see any battery change in that period compared to one earlier ))
when it was awake on your funny screenshot it was discharging with the same when the phone was not awake acordding to that stats so no impact registered
Thanks to share that information...

This sounds fantastic, Cm7.1 is my next choice, on XXJVT battery life is only 12h
thats using juicedefender to activate the data connection when screen turns on, emails still push to phone straight away with gmail so it is fine for me.
WIFI seems to drain the battery a bit quicker but not enough for me to bother flashing different kernels
I saw someone who did 2 WEEKS without charging. Normal using with black wallpaper on 2g network.
seems to be even better on ics... the best i had was ~2% per 8 hours...
3G + WiFi + email max 1 day
Getting some great battery life on evervolv's ICS rom. Anyone else getting similar performance?
EDIT: Today im at 50% with 12 hours use... some tiny tower, about 20 mins of phone calls, gmail, google voice, and facebook sync

That's good. Might be a glitch though if your battery is not calibrated. I had an issue when my N1 was showing over 20% and then shut off. When I turned it back on, it showed 0% and turned itself off. Try to discharge it all the way and see it if will shut off before it hits 0%. I would do it as a precautionary measure just to make sure that your phone doesn't die unexpectedly when you need it most.
nice battery life mate
I have calibrated battery and it lasts around 12 hours with fairly good usage.
But my mobile shuts down when battery at 15 %.
Do I need to calibrate it again?

This will not help. I have calibratet again and again. I'm using the medroidmod ics 1.4.0.

what are you guys using to calibrate for your battery? Mine used to turn off around 20-25% remaining but after I reset the battery stats its been more accurate. I get nowhere near the same amount of battery life that the OP has but I also am in a bad reception area.
I'm on the MeDroid HWA Mod and I cannot believe thatmy battery lasts for about two days now.
Do you really recalibrate or do you use the function out of your recovery, which function is busted meanwhile?!

Would like to find out about this battery calibration as well. Battery life on my N1 hasn't aged well, and I wonder if the batt's showin its age or something.
Mine isn't that good
I'm on latest MedroidMod but my battery drops fast with screen on and wifi but data off. It's like 20% each 25mins. But ICS is so sweet and cool that I don't wanna go back to the buttersmooth GB.
P/s: Which home launcher are you using/do you recommend to run on ICS?
My battery life seems to have improved slightly as well. I guess the complete redesign Google did, has done some good
wow its amazing
I'm running medroidmod remix and I'm happy when I make the day with one charge.
When my screen is on you can almost see my battery discharge.
With texice i had a huge drain (10% per hour), with medroid it was a little bit better but not nearly as good as with cm7.2RC1 now.
I've also finally updated radio to 5.08 yet.

DK ICS latest update has a really awesome battery life, as well as a very good performance. recommended ROM 100% =)

Please make sure to include your screen on time, as that is the best indicator of light/heavy use.

I can't believe how good the battery has been so far, 84% after 13hours (over night)

I wish I could get some stats like that. The screenshots are while I was sleeping and 7% seems like a lot of drain for it just sitting there. Only thing on was wifi. Cell standby time on is always the same as the time on battery, is that normal?

No, they will carry over until you re-charge or change the battery.
I was going to make a thread like this, but it was already here! Here are my results after my second full charge and regular usage. The results are on par with my fully modified and decked out Epic. Of course, this device has a bigger battery, but it also has a larger screen. Between the hardware and software upgrades, I'm very impressed with the stock battery life. This includes wifi on at all times as well as signal w/data. Some motion features are enabled, nfc is not, and google sync is off (I use stock email). Now how much further can this be improved?? Remember not to be discouraged, Screen On times will vary depending on what the phone is used for. Showing pictures is much less battery intensive than watching YouTube videos.

Anyone else gettin better results?
I can't give any quantitative data, but qualitatively battery consumption is just awesome. I'm an ingress player so I'm used in measuring phone batteries in terms of ingress usage time. (screen on, GPS on, data on, moving around continously). The battery goes down sensibly more slowly than my previous phone.

Hey Ben it's pretty impressive indeed. Any stamina mode or so activated?
Nope. Just as it comes.
That's pretty awesome. Mine currently lasts around 16 hours, with heavy usage (I'll try to get screenshots in the coming days). Mind sharing the settings you're using?
Wow amazing! Do you mind sharing your app usage as well? Thanks!
That was just with general browsing using Chrome & tapatalk, video streaming using Showbox & BBC iplayer and general messing about with the phone. No games.
Auto brightness is on, stamina is turned off, but I do use greenify (non-root mode obviously) to kill apps when I've finished with them.
Amazing battery for me as well. I used the phone HEAVILY today! Lots of browsing and talk time.
There will be no problem getting over 6 hours on screen time.
This includes a lot of music playing as well, and the total is off by about two hours since I rebooted the phone at the AT&T store.
I had stamina mode enabled for some of that, but only the performance part, I disabled the part that turns off networking when sleeping. I honestly can barely tell any difference (except for longer battery life) between having stamina off/on when it's just the performance part, so I tend to leave it on now.
This is my 2nd day, I have 4h screen time and I'm around 45% now right before going to bed. Should easily get me to 2 days of full usage. Which is amazing. This is just the best smartphone ever if you ask me...

Forgot to mention I also have Acdisplay - came from a motox and can't live without this function now
Two days so far using it from 100 to basically zero.
Not as impress as I thought I would be. Does this seem normal to you guys?
No stamina mode activated because I wanted to see how long it could last alone. I was really hoping for the "2 day" battery life the reviews were raving about.
Think it may get better after a few more days?

Of course. I have double tap to wake on. BT and LTE are disabled unless I need it. Wifi/3G always on. Brightness is at about 30% with ambient sensor on.
Lost 3% over night, but I had a battery drainer app trying to access location all night! And I also really like, in battery stats display and cell standby are on the top. With my Samsung Android system/OS always was on top and it drove me crazy
Btw I'll post stats after another few cycles. This is just a first impression kinda thing with alot of usage time while setting up the phone.
Turned phone into stamina mode before going sleep with 37% remaining. T2w on. WiFi off.
Woke up 8 & half hours later and it dropped only 1%.
This phone is legend in standby mode. Bonkers
Does tap2wake supposedly increase battery drain?
I know it does on phones not designed for it but I figured phones designed for it would have a special kernel or something to reduce drain to normal levels...
