Completely random restart - Blade General

Hey everyone.
My girlfriend recently moved from a ZTE BLADE to the Xperia Play (grr) and thus, I 'inherited' the blade.
Ever since she had the phone, it would randomly restart, and now that i've got it i've done a complete wipe, its using the default stock rom, and it's still doing it.
Has anybody else had this problem? Or does anyone know any reasons/solutions? Perhaps its restarting to clear ram or something, i'm not sure, but it is very annoying.
Any help is greatly appreciated

Not sure, if you've done a wipe and it still occurs then it might be a hardware problem of some sort.

Hmm it may be, but the device did it from day 1, brand new. I wondered if anyone else has had the problem. By the way it's the branded 'orange san francisco'

Well I did some more searching on the net and someone said the battery didn't fit 100% right on his, so he used something to wedge between the battery to push it tightly onto the contacts, i've done that now, i'll see if it lasts without rebooting now

Well i dont think it should be. Such a kind of issue generally turns off the phone rather than restarting it AFAIK.

Yeah thats what I thought, and I didnt think it would make that much difference, but it hasn't restarted a single time today...

Ive had maybe one or two random soft reboots happen since getting my phone.
I haven't had one in quite a bit now though.
Really mine shuts off atleast twice a day

You using a task killing app? If so how aggressive are you with it? Seems like task killers affect this phone WAAAAY more than on my Nexus One.
Random shut off for me = once a week
Yes I have it but ive never played with the settings just downloaded the app and went on from there.

Also my droid x usually freezes alot when I only have 2 apps running. Have any tips? I've only dropped the phone once but its was about 1 foot away from the ground need help!!

Mine doesn't freeze but will reboot twice a week our so on its own
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
I have had this happen to me twice. I was more on the line of thinking that it is an app that I installed. I hadnt thought it was the task killer set to killing an app that would do this. I will turn off Auto Kill and also do an inventory of apps that I installed since I noticed the shutdowns.

If I bring my phone to verizon what would they say?

I used a task killer on my Nexus One because old habits die hard. So when I moved to the Droid X I still had this habit. I quit using ATK this last Friday and havent had a single glitch or reboot since.
Could this be the case for others with reboot issues? Maybe, Maybe not.
If you have a task killer installed try uninstalling it for 2-3 days and see what happens.
I have never used a task killer but I had the same issue. A factory reset nor an .sbf restore from a brick changed it. My new phone just shipped yesterday as a replacement.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
I was having atleast 2 reboots a day and when I deleted my task killer last week I haven't had any problems my phone is actually faster with out it. I think the task killer stops programs to make your phone run effectively.

I have been having the same issue. My phone will just rest to the animation screen not the motorola M. At first I thought it was chomp sms causing it cause a few times as sms texts would come in it reset. So I removed chomp but issue was still there so I wondered if set cpu was the issue cause I am ROOTED. So I remove that. Issue is still there. I done two factory resets and no help.
I do not see this being a hardware issue...... Tho if it is please someone enlighten me....
Reason is if it is software then I can wait til 2.2 or custom rom...
Please any help or insight would be great. My exchange period with verizon is ruining out. Don't want to return a item with proper hardware.
Please assist thank you.

I haven't ever used a task killer on the x, and still had the same issue. It got slowly worse, up to 2 or 3 reboots and 2 or 3 freezes (battery pull required) per day. Verizon shipped me out a new phone, and I just got it yesterday.
edit: the speaker's a good bit better, too. Not great, but definitely distinctly louder than my original one.
Any idea if I was to un root it if it would matter? Or if rooting did cause this... Is the damage done then?

Hi guys. I was on the Motorola Droid X page, under owner support, and came across this:
"The battery charger shipped with this device is a high rate charger specifically designed for your DROID X.
Other chargers might take longer to charge your battery, cause your calls to fail during charging, or cause your phone to continuously power cycle."
I know that I had been using my BB Storm 2's charger with my DX since they both use the same connectors, unaware that the charger actually made a difference. I also noticed the shut-down/restart issue, and had called VZW about it twice, prompting the tech to send me out a new one. I only found this tidbit by chance afterwards. Maybe myself and others might be doing the same, and unknowingly creating a power issue...just my $0.02

Cuz if its just the screen that is normal, its the proximity sensor

Its weird, I haven't had this problem on any other android phone, its happened twice in the last 24 hours. I'm completely stock. Unrooted
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
I can count on one hand the number of phone calls I've been on since I got the thing, but I haven't had it shut down on me any of those times.
I've had it happen every time when rooted and had apps. I went back to no apps and still had it happen. I went back to stock 2.3.1 via the nandroid around here and locked it back up, still doing it.
The only thing I didn't test was 2.3 vs 2.3.1 but I do believe it started happening to me, at least, when going to 2.3.1, now that I think about it.
I have this problem but rarely. It will reboot the phone show the nexus startup screen without the backlit LED. Is that whats happening to you?
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
Same here, and I have used every T-Mobile Android phone to date, never seen anything like this before! This is the only phone I haven't rooted yet, not sure what the issue is...
It only happened once so I didn't think anything of it.
I didn't know it was a common problem.
Btw I will be exchanging my phone cuz this one has done really annoying bugs, like freezing in between homescreen slides and apps constantly fc during use
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
ya i havent made very many calls, but thats why it kind of concerns me. i have probablly made 10 calls and i think its rebooted 3-4 times while on the call or at the end of the call. i wonder if its a bug with the phone app?
did you root the phone or something ? if its still on stock firmware like how you bought it, then try to restore factory sittings, if its still doing that you then you have a I/O chip problem. and you will need to replace your phone.
thats what the HTC care told me when my HD2 used to have this issue

I would believe it was hardware if it happened randomly, but for phone calls only, that sounds like software.

Happened to me just now. Stock 2.3.1 with an international call.
I'm not rooted, I just cleared data for the dialer app and cleared cache on the whole system, we'll see if that does anything. Good thing I rarely use my phone for making calls or I'd be pissed

ASUS TF101 Does not turn on unless plugged in...

So... I cannot turn on my Asus tf101 unless I plug it in to a power source, once the screen lights up I can unplug it immediately and it functions normally when turned on. I bought this device refurbished from best buy a few months back, I dealt with the issue but now am looking to sell it. Any ideas on how to fix this? I have never rooted the device, however I have tried factory resets and cold boots.

Are you holding the pwr button long enough. If so,it sounds like the switch is bad.
I hold the power button for 12 seconds and try it with different variation holding volume keys. It functions fine when the device is powered on.

It could be a bad battery or your charger is only giving enough to power the device on. I would try a new charger first.

Do you have the keyboard docking station for it?
Are you on custom ROM or OEM?
What "app killers" are you running?
Some custom ROM's have had similar issues a long while back. maybe yours is getting that issue IF your running custom.
Keyboard dock, if you have it, does it do the same thing for powering on, where it needs to be plugged in to start the screen?
I only ask about the app killers because I had experienced a similar issue about a year ago due to an app killer I had installed. Removed it, and the phone worked fine. Put it back on and it reverted back to having to be plugged in to start the screen.
Have you tried a clean wipe of everything on the tablet? And I do mean CLEAN, no dirty flashes here (keep your pants on bud).
Lastly have you given the charge port a good ole blow out lately? Long bursts aren't really going to do any damage, but I would stick to short quick bursts of compressed gas, again NO VACUUM CLEANERS. They create static and the charge port is quite susceptible to static discharge.
I know your pretty intelligent, but let me put it out there again. DON'T be a fool and use alcohol on your tool.
This post made me laugh. I do not have the keyboard docking station. I have never installed any task killers as I do not believe in them. The tablet has been running the stock ROM the whole time and has never been tampered with.

But you never said if you gave the ole girl a good ole cleaning in the slot.
I would venture to say that you need to send it in to Asus or take it back to Best Buy (if your able to). It sounds like there may be a voltage issue with the digitizer or the inverter.
And NEVER EVER EVER Invert your digits while cleaning out the slot.
You also didn't say if you went deep up in the ole girl and gave her a good rootin.

Please keep us posted as I am curious to know how ASUS customer service is to deal with.
Well, I am trying to send my TF to Asus to fix the problem and they are a bit annoying. I have just dealt with HTC before and that was wonderful, but here they have send me 4 emails asking me to wipe, to update and to do everything that I have already done, and after that they have sent me to another web to fill another questionary. With HTC I just had to told them the IMEI and in 4 days I had my phone back
I had similar issue with mine. It was one of the reason I took back to best buy and used the buy back.
I then picked up the Nexus 7.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
I had a similar issue, do you use your device often ?
I figured out after a couple of months that each time it showed this behaviour the battery was in fact empty and it was in fact the root of the problem.
My transformer take much longer time to boot when plugged even with a full battery, and when it's empty it doesn't boot at all.
I must plug it, wait for it to be enough charged to boot unplugged, and do so. Then plug it back when started.
Considering that the transformer on stock cannot shut off when plugged to its keyboard (or even to USB ? Or is it just mine ? When I shut it off plugged to the keyboard then close it, it boot on again) When the tablet is left for several days unused the battery will be empty.

Do the power and volume buttons work normally once fully booted? I have had similar issues, one was improperly seated power button, the other was a loose ribbon cable way down in the guts of this beast. Also, was this happening the whole time you've had it , or after a firmware update?
Right now I'm dealing with one that the screen won't stay on once I get into ics unless I'm plugged in. I went in and noticed that if the auto brightness wasn't set, it works. So I tweaked the settings in display time off when unplugged and uninstalled some screensaver app, and now it's working fine. It was probably the first thing, even though was already set to one minute. Anyway, just letting people know sometimes it isn't hardware. But the op probably is since he's done factory reset.

Hating my S3 lately

So I've getting the no sound+drop signal problem these last weeks where you don't hear anything when making a call and then the phone loses all signal. Looked everywhere online no solution. I really need my phone these days and i am having to use skype to make a call which is total crap. Then today all of the sudden the phone stops recognizing the sdcard out of the blue, also can't seem to find any solution online. I don't want to send the thing to repair because I use it a ton. This is really inconvenient.
Just venting here , sigh.....

Which problem you mean, the call issue or the micro sdcard issue? I am running stock 4.1.2 jb and i have orange. The worst is that these problems start on their own all of the sudden with no previous warning. It drives one insane because it's so hard to pinpoint what happened and how to fix it.

I am sorry but I read the rules and didn't see anything that said that no venting was allowed here, this is a general forum and in most forums general means general chat, venting included, or anything else that doesn't fit in more specific boards. Now regarding your question I didn't do wiping nor factory reset but I did reinstall the Jelly bean ROM I am using, and also I tried reinstalling the modem making sure it was the right one. I didn't do more because I've read in the big "no sound during calls" thread that those methods haven't solved most users' issues so far so seems like a waste of time. Anyway spending my time fixing the phone is my idea of a good time. I've had it for one year btw.

Yeah usually only when a metal case is used does it ever really interfere I suppose.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Possible problems:
1) Wrong modem. Flash one that worked previously.
2) Mobile phone network problems (we tend to overlook this a lot). Contact your carrier and ask if your networks keep going down.
3) Signal interference (maybe some casing, maybe something in your house)
4) Damaged phone (maybe the signal receiver got damaged in a fall)
I've been having similar signal drop issues. Phone shows 2 bars but no data use, no sound when trying to ring out, can't receive a call. If I toggle 2g, signal will spring back to life and data will show. Changed bloody everything trying to resolve it. Orange UK.
