It seem that 25% of all the apps I try on the wifi zoom crash and force close. Pandora, slacker, just to mention two.
Is it a Honeycomb issue or xoom issue?
Will it ever get better or are some of the older apps never going to work?
I also have trouble with web sites that have flash video using either the standard browser or firefox.

Everything will work soon - XOOM has been out a month now only and it's the first device with Honeycomb. Samsung, LG and others have announced their own Honeycomb devices and Google has their dev conference (Google I/O) coming up soon which will also help. Like previous years people think they'll be giving out free XOOMs to devs so that will help.
Look at Android - when 1.5 came out you could have said the same thing but now look we're at 2.3 and the apps are plenty. You just have to have some patience and enjoy the ride!
I'll say is more like 45%
Since geting the wifi version on Sunday I been having a lot of fc on apps I use daily. I'm begining to regret selling my archos 101 to get this
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA Premium App
Other than the chrome browser being sluggish and closing when it feels like it, all the apps I have work as intended. This includes pandora. I don't use slacker.
Agree. There still needs to be time given to get the devs up to speed on honey.
Search for the nook version of pandora it works great
Fwiw : the only app that FC on my Wifi Xoom was the XDA app. Solved that by dl'ing tapatalk. All other apps work fine for me. And my browser works fine. Not laggy at all. Only one FC in 4 days of heavy use. Don't know if its hardware, firmware, or the apps and web pages that are different.
Sent from my Xoom using Tapatalk
I'm getting a lot of FCs too.
what I did is downloaded spare parts and put compatibility mode and it seemed to make apps that fc'ed work make sure and reboot though
Have 117 apps in my drawer, and uninstalled numerous others for random reasons. Only FCs I've had are Facebook.
Only difference I can think of is using ROM Manager to fix filesystem permissions. Always fixed FCs on my phone after ROM switches.
I keep seeing mentions of XDA, but the app has worked perfectly for me from day 1 on my Xoom. Same with Pandora.
All of that aside though, it has been in CONSTANT use, almost every waking moment, since a few days after release.
EDIT: Different critter though, that WiFi thing? I can't say that is true, because these have popped up about 3G as well. Try running the permission fix, if you're rooted.
I get a lot of FC's and it seems like a lot of apps crash.. Def not a good feeling, but the fact that I can do a lot that the iPad can not, i am going to stick with it. I know it will get better.
But in my world, I have gone from old Windows Phones (pocket PC's) Palm OS's to iPhone, to Android, and a lot of other I think.. I mess with all of them, hack them in some way of ROM's outside software or whatever.
I seem to make them ALL unstable, and with that being said, FC's are not new to me. BUT I will say that the Xoom seems like the most buggy, but it's also the newest at time of purchace. witch makes me think that it will just get better, as 3.0.x and 3.1.x etc come out. I am almost sure that Moto will upgrade it.
X fingers!
but no matter what, I hope you and everyone else, keeps supporting the openness of the Android platform!
Other than Facebook and a Bible app, I have had 0 FCs among my 41 apps. ??
Xoom certainly has its issues. They seem more severe than the nexus s issues as far as software stability is concerned. Some legacy apps work flawlessly, others are horrible and crash or generally misbehave. I haven't had any os instability though, just individual app crashes.
This os is a big jump. The devs need to take notice and start building compatibility. A good thing to start with would be adding that one line of code to enable hardware acceleration. Some apps are laggier here than on older android devices. You can tell when that's been added to an application when it's as smooth as butter.
I'm pretty happy with it though. Currently just need to find a good news reader that's not pulse (ie need 2 way Google reader sync). Currently I'm using Newsrob, but it's not optimised for tablets. But at least it runs!

Check out 'NewsR'. It's awesome and the dev is working with me on iterating it pretty fast so it'll get better fast.
I know it's $3 so maybe try it quick since you have 15 mins for refund but you won't be dissapointed. Just keep in mind this is only a second release but he's got an aggressive roadmap ahead.
Now that 3.1 is finally out is everyone pretty satisfied with it? I know I am. Seems like a very smooth tablet experience now. Feel sorry for the guys who traded in there Iconia's and couldn't wait for the update.
It's pretty good, although my A500 was already pretty responsive with 3.0. Still, I do notice a slight improvement.

One of the biggest improvements i noticed off the bat was youtube. Loads great now without stuttering.
I gotta say the mouse support is pretty spiffy. Overall it seems a lot smoother and snappier. I haven't tested it fully yet, but video support is definately better. It now seems to play all the videos that my Gtab plays. The one semi-disappointment is that while some widgets can be re-sized, I can't seem to make them smaller. They go bigger no problem, but smaller is a no-go on all the ones i've tried.

anyone having problems with mouse support? my mouse at the office doesn't work but the one I have at home works perfectly!
don't notice any difference
To be honest I don't really notice a difference. After the first rebot I actually found the performance slower. Rebooted once more and it now runs much like it did before. I think I'm one of the fortunate ones who didn't experience any issues under 3.0.1.
No support for Xbox 360 controllers at this point, the ring just keeps blinking.

It seems like it fixed cell stand by issue
Mine is rooted running Virtuous Asus w/Thor's latest. I have not seen, read, or experienced anything that has convinced me to jump on 3.1. I am very happy to keep my current rig and wait for a nice stable custom ROM.
I can now plug my digital camera into the A500 and with 1 click have all my pics download
it is a nice improvement from 3.0 . Then again this would be my first real update on any android software going back to the original mt3g days.
I have noticed that my wifi icon shows that I have horrible connection even when I'm next to the router. Snappier, nicer, better feel I am glad I forced my wife to buy this and the fact that xda talks all about this unit.
If it was not for y'all I would be lost.

Although my tablet does seem a bit smoother now, it refuses to play any of my videos i put on there (moboplayer, arcmediapro, act 1, rockplayer lite, none seem to work now?) gonna try moving the vids to "movies" folder and trying the stock player and see what happens.
Is it me or does it seem that the random shut downs are not happening anymore with 3.1?
Im monitoring for a while now, i havent had none yet.
It was the only thing i was bothered with a bit, but it would never occur to me, to trade the A500 for another tablet, im loving it since day one.

One thing I've noticed is video playback is a lot better. Rockplayer lite and moboplayer work fine on mine although mobo sometimes fcs. I'm sure rockplayer didn't let me play vids in hardware decoding mode before. It would always fail but now it works.

I had the same issue in Moboplayer and change the settings to be "Soft decoding by default" This seems to have fixed the issue.

Since 3.1 I seem to get randomly booted out of the browser, but not a proper force close. I do lose all open tabs.
Also the onscreen keyboard now seems a lot more laggy
3.1 wass not bad. Better than 3.01, but still a little sluggish compared to virtuous galaxy. I am headed back to that rom.

You are not he only one, mine also has lag, every Android tablet is ****ty. I also have 3.2 rooted with ad block and in Pulse Reader, it lags like hell, pages load without full content and the socalled "flash" is inexistent most of the time. Scrolling is crap, tired of stuttering. Everybody that say that their tablet is "smooth", either lie, or have no perception of smoothness. They should try an apple bitten logo tablet, I won't say the name, because haters will flame me.
Or they have overclocked like hell, but i don't like overclocking, it eats battery like a termite. And standby is crap also, only 2-3 days max, compared to 30 like "others".
thanx i am hope that acer will fix that it is a big issue ,makes me nutz sometimes..

Dear deio,
I have a perfect perception of smoothness and I'm not going to lie to you - I have A500 with Lightspeed 1.0.4 with stock kernel. Runs SMOOTH AS BUTTER! My brother owns an iPAD 2 and trust me I've played a lot with this useless (for me) thing if that's the idea of "ultimate smoothness". OK, this thread is not about iPADs vs Android tablets (no matter your conclusion that every Android tablet is ****ty), its about the lag OP experienced with OTA 3.2 . huurux , either go ahead for a custom ROM or return your device for replacement.
Having the same problem since i downloaded ota 3.2. When i say lag, i meant like it takes me a couple of minutes to open up an app (not a specific app, almost any app causes the lag) and even that, when i try to execute anything with the app it takes a few more minutes. Android Market also tells me i have updates for my apps, click on update, and the download status bar will marquee endlessly and would not let me download anything. Was thinking i had a bad update.
My question is (and help me out cause i am a noob): Is there a way i can reflash the stock ota 3.2? I have tried the "check for update" but it will just tell me that my android is up-to-date. Please help, have tried looking in the forum but couldnt find a similar solution.
Another noobish question: If i factory reset i assume it will wipe all data. Is there an easy way i can reinstall all the apps i previously had before the factory reset? If so, will i be able to retain all the progress i made in the app? (eg: game progress, rss list, etc)Tks in advance =)

Get Titanium backup from Market - its the most usefull app for me that's why I got the paid version. It will backup all your apps with data. The free version would also do the job for you but the batch process of restoring apps later will require pressing OK on each app that is currently being restored.
Thanks for the fast reply. It seems that i am not able to download any apps from the moment because of the problem. Although internet seems to be working.
Try to download Titanium Backup from their web site. As for the lag, I'm on stock 3.2 and I don't have any lag, the tablet runs even faster than with 3.2, so something is causing the lag on your tablet, I suspect a bad application, it happened to me with my iPad and iTouch, that went slow as molasses, and it was bad application. Uninstalled and everything got fine.
So for those so quickly to blame any android tablet, pleas check first that really you didn't install any crap application, specially cracked or pirated ones, that is slowing the system.

I also have this "LightSpeed" ROM, is laggy as hell, this is not a hardware problem, tried with a different Iconia, I also had a TF101, it was a bit better, but lack of USB on the slate made me chose the Iconia.
Sorry but this is about all Android tablets, and I must apologize to you, but I don't believe you. There is no smoothness in ANY Android device.
Ok, recommend a ROM that has the lowest lag, I'll try it.
I really don't get any slowdowns. I am however using tabooney with Richard trip kernel set tobuserspace in setcpu. Its been really good for me

I'm running EZTerry's "stock" rooted 3.2 OTA ROM without any lag, choppiness, or basically any issues at all. My battery life is what it's always been since buying it in May.
Unfortunately for the OP, if you accepted the OTA you can no longer root so apps like Titanium Backup or flashing a different ROM are no longer an option. You'll have to wait for someone to get root for OTA 3.2.
If you don't mind losing some of your apps, you can try a factory reset, load one app at a time from the market, and see if you can determine if an app is causing your problems.
Deio, continuing to call the A500 community liars and idiots in thread after thread is likely not going to result in much help coming your way. At this point my only advice to you is to eBay your A500 and go buy an iPad. Clearly, the A500 is simply not the device for you and you're never going to be happy with it.
deio, buy a f***ing iPad and leave us alone!

My roommate has the Transformer and I have the Iconia, we both lag like hell every two to three hours for about 5-10mins.

I also have the power/charge lag problem. I'm on stock rooted 3.1 using Richard Tripp's kernel to OC 1.4. Lagging during charging/ac power has been a problem for my A500 since new, with no root. Something about this engineering that makes it a problem for some units.
Going to load Taboonay and see if it makes a difference.

My config A500 3.1 rooted, I didn't have this issue be4 3.1 update.
Try thors newest v11. I only get lag on this website for some reason, it takes a quick second for the whole page to show. Its hit and miss. Every now and then it will go away. I watch alot of 720p videos. Both streaming from my home server or downloaded to one of my sdcards. All my daily uses, email, surfing, videos, etc. have almost no lag.
Ok here we go...
The best I can guess from reading about all of your lag problems is that there is a program or programs that are running in your background processes and eating up cpu/memory. Go to settings-applications-running applications and see what is on right now; subsequently see what is running directly after a reboot. If a bunch of random apps are running, it is very likely they are causing the lag. Especially if they are syncing or accessing the web. My suggestion would be to either uninstall these apps or go into their individual settings and turn off anything that would have it constantly working (not just running, it is ok for some apps to run in the background, as Android is programmed to control memory usage while allowing apps to run when not it use, but specifically 'working' in the background will eat up resources). Also, how often do you have your syncs scheduled? Any info that you do not need to have constantly synced (ie backup email addresses, facebook, weather intervals, etc.) should be either turned off or set to sync only a few times a day. For example, I have 11 running apps right now (been running without a reboot for a few days), consisting mainly of core Android processes, my keyboard, email, cpu scaler, and just 2 apps that I have downloaded that run in the background (mind you I have about 50 apps installed).
Furthermore...
All this talk about the iPad and how smooth it is...that's because it utilizes hardware accelerated graphics, something that Android will now have with the release of Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0. True, the level of smoothness on an iPad typically surpasses that of an Android device, but that is soon to change. Then what will the iPad really have? A boring home screen that consists of nothing more than only our app drawer and a ton of games. Android brings WAY more to the table, no question about it.
Going on...
I am running a custom rom (Taboonay 2.1b) with an overclocked/undervolted processor (1.4ghz -150mv) and my Iconia gets kick ass battery life. I need to really try to kill this thing, no joke. I play hi-def/3d games, watch flash content on the web, Netflix, internet browsing, email, create word docs, use external usb peripherals, and more. To get the best battery life you just have to be smart about it.
Suggestions:
Turn off auto backlight. I don't think it works very well on the Iconia anyway, I have my brightness set at about 20% and it's perfectly visible (if you're used to having it brighter give it some time, you'll adjust) and when I am in bright light I simply change it as needed.
Check sync schedule. Weather really only needs to be updated like every 3 hours at most. Do you really need to know the temperature AS it changes? Don't think so.
Do you have multiple email addresses? Unless they are work related, you can probably just set them to sync manually and check it a couple times a day without it turning on itself.
Facebook/Twitter syncing is the devil. Unless you are a 15 year old girl that needs to know what her bff is doing at all times, slow down the sync on these apps!
Is your WiFi set to turn off with your screen? This is a BIG ONE! Settings-Wireless/Networks-WiFi Settings-WiFi Disconnect Policy-When Screen Turns Off. You'll notice a change immediately.
For some more info on what's killing your battery, and therefore more than likely sucking up resources and causing lag, go to Settings-Applications-Battery Use. The blue lines should line up accordingly: Your device should only be Awake and have the WiFi on when the Screen is on, except for a few dashes here and there for normal syncing. Large blue squares of Awake when the screen isn't on means something is running in the background that probably shouldn't be. WiFi on all the time kills battery. Get it? Also, the list of apps that take up battery should only be ones that YOU KNOW you are using on a constant basis. If something is on there that you don't normally use a lot, it means it's running in the background and sucking up a lot of resources (other than screen, tablet idle, and Android OS, these should be there).
Moral of the story...
I gave my 3 year old kids my iPhone. It's a kids toy, same with the iPad. Period. An Android device is one of the most powerful, customizable and capable devices available. There is a lot more that can be done with it than with most other more simple devices. With great power comes great responsibility. Take control of your device, what you do with it and what it does. Lag? What lag.
Phew. I'm a little drunk at the moment, so hope I didn't go too crazy here. What was this post about by the way? Ha! Hit the thanks button if this made any sense to anyone out there
Honestly, I couldn't have said it better myself. I'm running stock unrooted 3.2(mostly because I've been too lazy to revert back to a rooted ROM)and have very little to no lag. Realizing that its all personal perception and that I gave my Ipod to my kid so I don't really have anything to compare it to, I'm way more than happy with the performance of my tablet. The only time I have to wait is when I open up the Acer content folders, sometimes it takes a second or two for them to open. I can definitely live with that, if the trade off is a fully usable tablet that I can customize to my own needs. Battery life is well above expectations as well for me. Usually two days of semi-heavy use before I start to get that panicky feeling that comes when my battery meter drops below 30%.
hi guys, I'm finally Xoom owner as of yesterday, haven't even gotten the thing rooted yet so.....falling way behind. Man, I love this thing though.
So the problem I'm having has been hard to research because I don't know what some of the basic website types are called. The biggest problem is my bank website so sluggish and choppy it's really not useable. Actually though I'm noticing that posting here is causing the same trouble so....what is this dialogue entry, scrolling animated called? Cause if I can't get it to work with this, the enemy is going to pull rank and make me take this back for the laptop she has picked out.
Is there any browser, or add on that will hook me up?
If Pnc's app wasn't so half ass this wouldn't be an issue!

You've got to give the Xoom a real chance. To me, rooting and installing the Tiamat Moray rom, overclocking, installing the overclocked gpu Odachi kernel over it, will fix you up. Also, I find that the alpha Ice Cream Sandwich build by Team Eos (aka Tiamat) is fantastic--fast and smooth as butter. Also, use a launcher like ADW EX, and you'll love using the Xoom. I use Dolphin HD browser and like it better than stock android. Not all apps are optimized for tablets yet, but they are getting there. My Bank of America app works fine.
I am struggling to figure out wtf I was talking about to be honest. I have a newborn and I haven't slept in a few days.
So the type of site in referring to, I am thinking it might be java. basically it's a constant fight to keep the courser where you want it to be. Then it still winds up typing in the middle of some other word. I thought it was just https sites but during this post it realized it was the desktop version of the forum too.
Our laptop has about had it, this thing may have to be a full replacement for a while. The only way to do it banking is through the full version site, their half ass mobile site lacks the functionality......so if we, can't use this for banking I'm going to have to get a laptop. I really like this thing. I'm just hoping there's a way around it that I'm not aware of.
For videos....let's just say hypotheticaly someone for whatever reason would want to go to....oh I dunno, "you corn", a farming site loaded with streaming videos. Let's say that person were to click on a clip starring his favorite farmer, Bella Donna, when my wife is finally out shopping or hair or something.
The only thing that would show would be the first five seconds, then it would stop and say buffering. Eventually the slider would start moving again and your can hear the combine running but the video status frozen.
First of all, congratulations on the baby...been there and it's a tough first few months, so you have my sympathy. Lack of a good night's sleep will wear you down, fast.
I love my Xoom, and for most of my purposes it has replaced my laptop, but Imho, the Xoom is a personal device and it would probably not suffice as the family's sole computer. You can definitely improve the Xoom's performance by rooting and running custom roms/kernels. You can possibly improve your home's internet speed, which will improve your downloads and reduce some of that streamed video buffering. But there is no tablet, not Xoom, not Transformer Prime, not iPad, that has what the comparably priced laptop has. Of course, the Xoom can do things and go places that the laptop can't match, but for your needs, and for peace in your home which you need right now, maybe the laptop is the better choice. I'm sure you'll make whatever is the right decision for you. Good luck with everything.
I searched the 2013 Nexus 7 threads to see if anyone started a thread with their feedback on Lollipop on a stock device like previous updates and did not find any. I received the OTA notification for Lollipop but it went away after 8 hours. I have my stock 7 setup exactly I want it. I have setup certain ways like streaming movies from my computer to my multiple emails and much more custom configurations but with a bone stock 7, not even rooted which is why I was hesitant to do the update.
I'd like to hear your feedback on Lollipop. Is it faster/smoother? Does all your apps work. Do you like it better than Kitkat? etc.
Thanks in advance.
I had the same thing - the notification for the OTA popped up late at night on the 17th and I didn't have time to deal with it. In the morning, I tried to start the download but nothing happened and the notification disappeared and wouldn't come back.
Anyway in my impatience I flashed the LXR21P factory image and, after a few hours playing with it, I wish I hadn't. Kitkat was way smoother, animations, scrolling, gaming performance, everything basically. Lollipop really feels like a huge step backwards to me.
As for my apps, mostly everything survived the restore from Titanium Backup with one exception - Weather Now by Hamsterbeat seems to keep thinking its not licensed. Games were a different story unfortunately - out of the 10 or so games I had installed, five of them no longer work (Conduit HD, Deus Ex: The Fall, Call of Duty Strike Team, Modern Combat 4 and N.O.V.A. 3). The ones that do work don't run nearly as well as they used to, even Modern Combat 3 which used to run glassy smooth is now lagging. Modern Combat 5 lags so bad in the campaign when you scope in its pretty much unplayable.
There are a few things I don't much like about Lollipop but I'll get used to them. The performance right now is godawful though and I'm probably going to restore a Kitkat backup in a week or so.
Much Thanks on your detailed experience the Lollipop. So far it sound this discouraging.

I didn't notice it earlier but there's actually a sticky thread up top, don't know if you've read it. Lots of people complaining about poor gaming performance.
not all apps work and some don't work as expected. I like the new interface, but for now I stick with KitKat as App World is not yet ready for Lollipop ( I play tons of 3D games and not all of them work and those that work, they are slow as hell).
App developers have to update their apps to run properly on 5.0. They should have already, but many have not. More are being updated every day. The system is smooth as silk. Major step forward for android in becoming a fully mature operating system. Many new features the more you look.
I like it. Think it's quick and more responsive. But as already mentioned not all apps work with it yet. Titanium backup has had an update so works very well for me.
The battery life improved alot for me
I like it. Did a clean install with NRT. Unloaded all the junk in the previous system. My Nexus 7 is running fine. I does everything I want without problems. I am enjoying Material Design. I would like to see more apps adapting MD. Now I only wish Samsung and Verizon get off their asses and get Lollipop to my S4.
So far I like Lollipop although i'm really missing xposed and certain modules that i used on 4.4.4. I haven't tried any graphically intense games yet but it seems to be running really smooth with no lag. Not sure whether it's my imagination but performance wise it feels smoother and faster than 4.4.4 but unsure whether battery life is as good. Also miss mx player but hopefully that will be updated soon.

I contacted MX player. They sent me to their website where they have a test build up that has been updated to work on 5.0.

I updated to L and now Dungeon Keeper runs like crap. I also have a Nexus 9 with L and it doesn't have a problem. Weird...
Something's definitely weird here. For me, Lollipop is kinda sluggish compared to KK, yet some report Lollipop would be much smoother compared to KK.
My OTA went away also. After a couple days I got pissed and sideloaded the OTA. Everything is much smoother it seems. Haven't run into any app issues at all yet. Hopefully it stays bug free. I'm liking it so far.
I like it. Much smoother and touchscreen is a lot better now. But I've noticed battery life has sucked. Getting like 5 hours screen on time. Not as good as kit Kat.
Also, the brightness is all weird. Its only ever bright when I'm halfway on brightness. Anything lower is too dark.

For brightness its probably the adaptive display- go to display settings and turn it off.

It runs smooth for me, except when running games like MInecraft, Dead Trigger 2. Even Wheel of Fortune is laggy at some points. Hopefully the hardware isn't becoming outdated this soon. Maybe these laggy games will be fixed in future updates.
I have to say I despise the vast amount of changes to move settings, launcher, etc. to white background with black text. It makes my eyes hurt. I wish I could get back black background and white text on most of the common screens I have to use all the time.
Battery life sucks for me. 2h24mins screen on and at 54%.

You've had the screen on for 2.5 hours straight and you have 54% battery, and you think that sucks? That means you would get over 5 hours of constant screen on time. How much did you get before?
