verizon wireless - Fascinate General

Recently, I moved into cm7 rom and 'm actually satisfied but 'm think i have some problem: on my lock screen at the upper right side, "verizon wireless" title is written , and since I'm in a different zone, which isn't use in verizon wireless, and actually i'v never seen this title before,I wonder if everything is ok? When I think about it, actually I have a problem withe phone calls (sometimes the phone is ringing when getting call n sometimes not...)

I think thats just a title the rom has.
I believe u can change it look around in the settings.

i looked around the settings and couldn't find it! is still show me this title on my lockscreen and still i have problems with messages sending and even with phone call from time to time

You'd have to edit eri.xml. I forget which framework file its in.
Sent from my Incredible 2 using XDA App

sry but i don't know what it is... how can i do that?

@times_infinity, it's in /data
I'll post a modded eri.xml in a minute.
edit- here:
1) extract xml and place in /data folder
2) use text editor in root explorer to edit the text "Captain Pickles" to your text.
3)save and reboot

Text Messages loading slowly

SO, when I access text messages, I noticed they have been taking longer and longer to load. I am thinking this has to do with the fact that my phone has over 3200 text messages/threads in the memory. Is there a way to auto delete messages when you go over say 1000 in memory? I've searched everywhere for a setting and could not find anything.
On mms.apk (messaging) there is an option under settings that lets you limit how many each conversation can have.
There is also an app called Delete Old Messages where you can have it set to auto delete all messages except the ### most recent. you get to chose how many. But for that feature you have to buy it instead of using the free version.
Hope that helps

Where?Ghost text.
My bad, its on the AOSP mms i pulled from darchvanilla - the one with the green icon.
But its right under settings > storage settings > Text message limit.
I attached the apk if you want to use it. First nand backup and then rm the old Mms.apk under /system/app/ After that, push the downloaded one there.

Also, can i do those steps with root explorer while the phone is running? Oh wait, i have to nandroid anyways, disregard....
EDIT: I swear it wasnt there 2.5 seconds ago when i posted. Lol. Thanks bro. I really need this option. Just met a new chick recently, and her conversation got to over 350 messages in less than two days. I was like why is my ish running sluggish. Oh yeah... hundreds of messages to load.

I tried using root explorer to just switch them, that was a no go. So i put the original MMS back and tried to install the ASOP one over it, but it wont install. Any thoughts?

[Q] Default Android Messaging. apk?

I can't stand the messenger on the D2. I want to have every message send when I hit enter, instead I have to press the send button on the screen.
1. Does someone have the default messenger apk from froyo (or whatever)?
2. If I install it, will it work like Chomp and let me choose it as a default app?
Same
I did it on my Droid Incredible. Found an old mms version and installed it then updated it and it works great, However I did totally delete the sense mms app. I would love to do it on my wifes D2 but can't find the original .apk...
Update: I googled "mms.apk" and found a couple downloads, worth a shot anyway. If they don't work right check for an update before you delete it.
I'll try it on my wife's D2 later today

keep me updated and a link to the one you ended up using.
if your only issue is wanting to press enter to send a message, i found today that if you just hit the right arrow after you're done typing, the cursor jumps right to the send button. then all you do is press enter. one extra key press. not too bad a work around.
i was able to pull the mms.apk from my original droid and install it on my d2.
contact pictures were not showing up and i'm not sure how the phone would react if i reached the 1000 message limit with the stock app. but it works.. kinda
Check this thread out, http://www.mydroidworld.com/forums/droid-2-mods/4510-tranquility-droid-2-a.html. Gets rid of the Blur and it has the stock messaging app.

i wouldn't say it's my only issue, but it's a decent one. i'll try this, although i'm not happy about it.
I have a stock Mms.apk if someone wants I can email it to you so you can post it up for everyone.

I tried and *loved* the Tranquility ROM, but at the same time I love having the Blur and Social Networking apps on my D2. Is there any way that I could just get the original FRG22D stock mms.apk to work on my D2? I've already bricked my original Droid2, and I don't want to brick this one!

DL the file, extract the stock messaging app, install it on ur phone... ?
Install HTC IME keyboard... on my phone or id link it... i think its under nexus 1 themes in here... u can customize ur keyboard and theres n option "enter key sends message in stock messaging app" or something to that extent

I was able to extract the mms.apk file from the Tranquility ROM. I renamed conversations.apk to conversations.apk.bak, then clicked on and installed the mms.apk. I have no problem sending or receiving sms and mms. I'm loving it!

[Q] Question about my new DX (new for me anyway)

My brother in law recently switched over to SPRINT and gave me his pretty new DX. I can't activate the phone until next week (because he made the mistake of porting the phone number BEFORE he gave me the phone) so according to VZW i have to wait until that process is completed and the billing cycle is finished before I can use the phone. (I don't think he plans on paying them )
My question is...can I root the DX before I actually get it linked to my VZW phone number? (like remove google apps and just use the phones capabilities like camera etc. without having to call and activate it) I'm coming from HTC Droid eris so I don't know much about rooting the DX yet.
Can someone help me please.
I believe you can, I think theirs a way to bypass the activation screen. You might be able to find it on the forums or if not just Google it I'm sure you can find it.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Yes you can root it without being on a network. all you need to do is go back out of this thread and read the first sticky and go to the wiki. I would post link but since this is my first actual post i cant
And after your phone reboots you can get passed the little android man by touching each corner in a circular motion.
I hope for your sake that your brother in law pays Verizon. If he doesn't in they most likely blacklist the phones esn.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
But keep in mind if the phone doesn't have OTA 2.2 you might want to keep all apps because the update might fail because missing files.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
You don't even need to do the 4 corner trick.
Touch the android, hit next until you have the options of "create google login, sign in, or skip" and just choose skip. That easy.
That's assuming he's at the "touch to begin screen" which he probably isn't being that he's the second owner.
...but yeah, check the sticky and root away.
Thanks for the information guys. Yeah I really hope that they allow him to give me his phone. I kept verifying with the rep that it would be okay to transfer the phone, he said it should be okay since it's HIS property. But i never know with those guys...
I don't plan on removing any apps at all I just want get the root access and ready so when I do hook it up, it'll be ready to go.
I'm excited to see what you guys have in store for this phone...especially coming from the Eris.
Just connect with wifi and use as normal. That easy. You can even setup a google account and use market and have all the sweet and chewies of using the X less the ability of calls and texts.
As stated above, if he doesn't pay the bill VzDubya will (normally) put the phone on the do not activate list. Again though this wont effect use while connected to wifi.
Will I have to set the phone to USB debugging mode if I try and root?
If so, I dont think I'll be able to root since I can't even get passed the "Activation Screen"
Also, how can I check to see what android version he is on (2.1 or 2.2) How do I look at the bootloader info...can I do that w/o Root? Is that dangerous? I don't want to brick the phone...
sorry for all the questions guys appreciate your patience.
Anyone?
Press menu then setting scroll to the bottom of the list to about phone click it and your info will be there. Just a thought if you don't know how to find something that simple are you sure you want to be playing with root.

Actually if you read the first post. The phone is not activated yet, so I don't have the option to "menu>settings".
And Yes, I rooted my Eris. Thanks.

Wallpaper location?

I was having trouble finding decent (HD) or there abouts wallpapers for the d2. Im about to sbf and cant seem to locate my current wallpaper again on the web, when I got it, I just long touched on the screen and chose save as wallpaper. Trying to backup all my stuff and for the life of me I cant find this dang file on my phone/sd card. Anyone know where its located? Thanks.
Sent from my DROID2 using XDA App
I'm curious where/how the wallpapers are stored as well. Just for kicks, I went to Google Images, searched dragon, and pressed and held a file named red-dragon.jpg, then selected Set as Wallpaper. Using Root Explorer, I went through every folder on my phone, excluding the ~/sdcard, searching for "red-dragon," ".jpg," and "dragon.jpg." None of which gave me any results.
So, sorry to say, but I think the D2 really likes to hide your wallpaper. :/
Did you know that you can actually google how to boil water? In any case, google is your best friend. Rarely picky and almost never down...anyways, back to topic:
I recommend googling: current wallpaper location android. The first hit helped me a little bit into it. It seems there is this folder called data that you can only access once you rooted your device. Since Im in no need to do so and myself new to android I leave you to do whatever you want with this information.
Im also sure that you will need a root file explorer...only guesses though.

Maybe you were too busy being smug to read my post, so I'll just give you the tl:dr version.
I searched through the entire /data folder with Root Explorer for ".jpg" and found nothing when I was using a "red-dragon.jpg" as my background.
Thanks for your mastery of searching on Google though.
I am not rooted but whenever I save wallpapers from the internet on my phone they end up in a folder titled downloads..that shows up in my gallery and when I look at mt sd card..check to cee if you have a folder titled that as well

I think the system puts things like that in a database file. I have my walpaper of a picture I took but it is no where on the phone. It is defined in an xml file but where actually stored i think it is in a DB file. Sorry I can not make the "thumb keyboard" do commas.

I'm going to investigate this hunch further. I'll search the /system folder for all .xml files or database files. I can't say I'm an expert on the matter though, so... No promises on results.

I don't know if you are still looking for this, but if others stumble on this like I did, here's the answer. in the /data/data/com.android.settings/files/ folder there is a file called wallpaper (no extensions). it is actually a jpg file (if you copy it somewhere else and add a .jpg at the end you'll be able to see it)
@tsachi Here is my question: I would like all these lovely wallpapers I downloaded to show up in the dialog when I press Menu...wallpaper then hit the wallpaper button. The same default papers are always there and I would like to move my downloaded wallpapers to where ever that is.

Thanks tsachi. I was able to confirm this. I couldn't see the contents of /data with ES File Explorer, but I was able to do this through adb:
Code:
su
cd /data/data/com.android.settings/files/
cp wallpaper /mnt/sdcard/Pictures/wallpaper/wallpaper.jpg
exit
exit
Then I was able to look at it in any image viewer.
Not directly related, but I used adbWireless so that I wouldn't need to connect the usb cable and I'm using MultiPicture Live Wallpaper as my wallpaper switcher.

Hey there,
I wanted to set my Wallpaper manually to avoid cropping when choosing a file in the gallery.
On my Nexus 10 running Android 4.2.1 the wallpaper is found at:
"/data/system/users/0/wallpaper"
The file has no ending but is a jpg file (as sad by others).
If you want to exchange the file with yours remember to set the right permissions.
I dont know exactly how they have to be, but if you give all users at least read access it should work.
After a reboot the new Wallpaper should be set.
My wallpaper now has a resolution of 3966x2560 and there are no black bars anywhere. The system seem so crop it on the fly.
Confirmed on JB 4.2, the location is
/data/system/users/0/wallpaper
Copy wallaper to somewhere else and change its extension to wallpaper.jpg and you are done.

[Q] How to disable screen turning on when texts received?

Isn't there a way to stop the screen from turning on whenever texts are received by using a tool like Root Browser to edit a config file somewhere? I thought I remember reading that somewhere but now can't find the thread where I saw that (I searched this site and google in general).
Thanks.

You need root to do so, here is the thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2785118
The Wanam module in Xposed can also do this
