4gb is a limitation of the fat32 file system
so unless someone's made a way for it to read NTFS there wont be
I was thinking that 800/480 is slower than 480p . I dont know verry well howbis with resolutions . Thanx

480p = 720x480 or 854x480, 1080p is 1920x1080 which is over 4 times the resolution of the phone screen. Quality and speed isn't based on resolution.
Thank you. What is the best torrent downloader that all fo you use?

Except Android is linux based and uses the ext2 filesystem, if I got things right, so the filesize limit should be 16GB minimum (I'm not sure about android ext2 block sizes?)

+ 1 for this.
I use my phone for films with HDMI output at my parents house when I visit and full hd would be awsome.
So has anyone been able to get the phone to mount the SD card with ext2 partition? I am receiving unsupported filesystem error.

When I look my partitions I see that my SD Card and my external SD Card are formatted in FAT32.
The only solution for microSD is format the microSD and use
fuse.ko and ntfs-3g from this post
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15167790&postcount=41
if the video is mkv it should be simple to cut in pieces, even without recoding.
yeah, we can use file splitter to split that video instead of converting it to lower resolution thats what I did with my transformers 3 hd and it works fine

i think it wont work for memory card....its for mounting usb....
memoy cards with ntfs file system may work with minor modifications in kernel....and system......
any dev may focus this issue...then we can get rid of this limitation........

What program/script is the best option for converting my high profile mkv's to a usable format on my xoom. I'm not really interested in 1:1 quality as I think 720p is overkill for the 10" screen. Thanks,
i tried looking around for conversion apps and i only found one. Its called MyView(on the market). I didnt get a chance to test it out yet tho. And if that doesnt work you can play .mkv's from the rockplayer app(its my personal favorite). I hope that helped

You can plug in any drive but you'll need a special program if the drive uses a NTFS filesystem (USB mount all, Drive mount,...).

You must check the filesystem you are using. By default, ie. without any additional apps or such, A500 supports only FAT - or FAT32 - formatted drives. Either format your drive to FAT32 on Windows or install the NTFS - app the above poster mentioned. After that it works just peachy, I've got several drives I use and haven't met a single hitch yet.
Thanks guys, I'm using ntfs drives and wouldn't like to change it to fat. I'm having a hard time locating those app on the market, are those paid apps, one refers to mount sd card, I need a little help here please.

Do they have audio in AC3 format? Lots of people -- ie. most people -- can't get audio when it's AC3, I don't know if it's a limitation of Tegra2 or what. If you have AC3 audio in your files then your only reliable option seems to be transcoding the files.
I personally have never even tried, there's no point in having multi-channel audio when I'm only using stereo headphones to listen to it.
Try mobo player; its located on the market. I've found it to play any of my vid formats.

I did some checking, no support for exfat either. So fat32 it is.
If anyone has a spare laptop hdd or old laptop lying around, take the hdd, put it in an enclosure and use easeus partition manager to format the whole thing to fat 32 regardless of capacity over 40 gbs and velcro that to your Iconia and u will have all the storage ud need. Just keep your files under 4 gbs.

If I am not mistaken for FAT filesystem max file size is something around 4GB. So with that file system i don't think it is possible to get larger.

I've tried VLC media player to rip some of my old movies I have, but I can't seem to find the ideal settings. I rip on the preset "Video for android sd high" but the movie still wont transfer over without my phone wanting to convert it again when I transfer. Then after it does, my 2 hour movie takes up 1.4 gb, and that seems to high. Any recommendations on a more efficient setting or maybe if I should transfer directly to the SD card and reinsert it into the phone? Thanks
Try a program called "Handbrake". I've used it rip my DVD collection and I set it to encode on a "universal" setting, ends up being in .m4v format and my phone plays it fine. I'd say that's a normal size (at least what I've experienced) for a 2 hour movie.

Not sure if this is even an issue here... your 1.4GB file for a 2 hour movie at 1080p sounds exactly right... The 700MB file you mentioned sounds right for the same movie in 720p... are you checking these files after loading them on your phone to see what resolution they are? I've never seen one of my movies at 1080p turn out smaller than 1.+GB... even recording with the camera for that long turns out that big at 1080p...

Makes 100% lossless backups in mkv format. Then you can use handbrake to condense.

Yeah DVDS are 720 at best. Blue rays are 1080. You can upscale the dvds to 1080 but it's not really worth it. You would be better with just the 720 verison.

If you convert DVD of the VOB format to any other formats, the quality will be lossy. But if you just rip DVD to VOB format which if of the same format as DVD, the original video format will be kept maximally as there is no re-encoding process. Also some software allow you to convert DVD to HD format. I think the output quality will be good.
