Reported Memory and Memory Leak - Epic 4G General

I am currently running EH06, stock/deodexed and am experiencing seemingly random reboots. I was curious to see if this issue is memory leak related, and from general RAM checking, I believe it may be. Of my available 342 MB of ram, RIGHT NOW my phone reports 241 MB taken up, I have seen that value getting up into the low 300's at it's peak, and unfortunately I haven't seen it immediately preceding a reboot.
I decided to check the memory usage from the command line, and when I run 'free' via the bash shell, of the 350400 KB (342MB) of potential RAM - which matches nicely with what the phone is reporting - I am being told I in fact have 321 MB of RAM taken up. Now I'm no Linux/Android guru, but that doesn't seem right.
So I opened up a bunch of apps, visited a couple of websites, backed out to the home screen and rechecked my numbers. I am now at 302MB/342MB according to the task manager app, but 338MB/342MB according to 'free'. Using the 'Clear Ram' button, I was able to knock it back down, but I have seen it in the past few days not drop the used RAM amount upon pressing that button...

I'm experincing similar problems , it seems every day I need to do a reeboot to keep my ram usage down cause when I first boot , let everything load ... then kill tasks I have around 180 free but after about a day when I kill tasks I have around 80 free and I need to reboot for peace of mind I don't know what it is but I hope I get fixed ....

I get random reboots when my phone is just sitting idle doing nothing. I've so had them when running Apps and going from screen to screen. They are just random.

People have had mixed results with the 3G Turbocharger script and KickAssKernel scripts. The V6 script is the one many are reporting helps with the RAM leak. I used oprion #9 MegaRAM2. This is the lastest script. You need to get Script Manager from Market. Select "run as root" then "run". http://db.tt/oUYakOc

In the world of software, there is NO random, everything has a cause. We call things random when we haven't defined the problem's pattern.

So check it out , I instaled the new eh06 plus kernel without really getting an answer as to what a kernel was and it seems to have helped I haven't been on it for 24 hours yet but I will update and let you know

The paid "Full" version of Memory Booster allows to to set (raise) the minimum RAM threshold supposedly. I just got it and will see if I change it and install and run a bunch of apps if it prevents the reboots. Huh, I got the "Full" version but the minimum RAM threshold is set in the MB RAM Optimizer app. I will change it from 15% to 35% and see if it stops reboots tonight.

I've been getting these "random" reboots with all of the GB leaks. Been looking at my logcat but I can't make heads or tails out of what the messages mean. Currently using catlog for the logcat reader, never seen anything under the lowest level "what a terrible failure" but get tons of stuff under the next level up "error".
currently running eg22.
Would love a thread detailing how to do anything with this that might help figure out what's causing these issues.

Great John, let us know. The free version is great for seeing what is REALLY using your memory. Not the little bit the stock task manager kills. Apps are constantly loading in the background even if you haven't used them in months. If you go to Task Killer in Memory Booster Lite you will see this "ninja" apps stealing your memory. This is what people keep calling memory leaks. They are real apps loading.

ive been running stock odex eh06 since it first leaked on samfirmware and i never had a random reboot
but i am seeing memory problems. such as maps running using a whole 6MB of ram. Think, 10 years ago, that wouldve took a supercomputer. Why are these apps running even when i dont launch them?
such as engadget, maps, telenav, THREE DIALERS TAKING UP 11MB EACH WTF I THOUGHT THERE WAS ONLY ONE DIALER. anyways yeah i usually have ~100mb free but still. when i CLOSE an app, it should CLOSE. I also shouldnt see the app UNLESS I LAUNCH IT.
will v6 stop this? im scared of borking something thats why i ask...i cant afford to use the "trial and error" method like i used to :/

Memory Enhancement

Is there something that will provide an enhancement to memory usage on a dinc that requires root. Like preventing apps from automatically running in background. Tired of using a task killer when memory gets down to very low levels.
Maybe a Rom that's efficient at doing this.
Anyone have any ideas?

+1 on autostarts. Instead of killing your apps, autostarts prevents them from starting.
And why do you need to kill these apps? Have they tried to injure you?
Seriously... you probably don't need to kill them unless one of them is acting up. The phone will free up memory as you need it.
Those look good. I'll try them out and see what works better.

I tried RyanZA's 2-3 batch file fix and I'm not having any problems...to which bugs are you referring?
The bug I’m aware of happens with apps that store data (such as texture) on the sd card outside of the new partition. Some games such as Asphalt 5, Homerun Battle 3d, heavy Gunner, maps... This is a problem with all the lags fixes. If you don't use those apps or apps like that it probably won't affect you.
For instance the load times for Homerun Battle were three times longer on start up, if it started up. I had several times where my phone just shut off. If it eventfully did start it would run fine. Chainfire talks about the bug in his thread found here.

Played around with maps, gps on/off, zillow app., switching back and forth and phone froze on Alpha 1 as well as 2.3. Also this is a know issue and I got it too, on 2.3 I was not able to change fonts. And I hate default font
When i use RyanZA lagfix it works but when i reboot the phone everything gets screwed up anyone have this problem itll take ages to boot up and when it does alot of force closes and widgets outta place etc
Use chainfire. I believe it may be the safest, easily the most automatic one.

That is your punishment for using task killers
The only possible reason to use a task killer anymore is if for some strange reason you want to kill your battery as fast as possible.

It's still better than my Captivate and Desire HD, though.

I've had resets after quitting games too.
I only had one random reboot during phone call (-_-)
But except that everything's been fine.
I've had two random reeboks since getting the phone.
Once on 2.3.2 and once on 2.3.3 whlist using Opera mini.
Opera Mini also randomly closes on me way too often, I think a lot of apps aren't fully compatible with 2.3 and it causes the OS to spaz out and shut down.
cpu's are designed to reboot if they detect any kind of extreme (heat or high/low frequencies ect) some cpu are very sensitive to very high or low frequencies, if sony has changed the tables, it could be somthing as simple as a big jump in the frequency at high load time that is making the cpu reboot the device, check the log function in setcpu, i think you maybe able to change the frequencies, i know with my DHD and the same cpu, i had some reboot issues when the devs started messing about with the tables

reading about the appkiller which kills more battery life... is that the case with the built in app killer in cm7/deck 's rom?
hi
in my nexus it is showing 345 mb. i am getting around 160 mb free
count me as -1 because i do feel the need to force close some apps in order to regain smoothness and speed.
Android memory management might be good but it's not always enough as it feels ok if you only have 40mb or less free ram but the launcher will probably become sluggish and lagging.

What's the reason for battery pulls on the evo 4g?

My 4g constantly requires a battery pull once a day, this is my 4th evo and all of them are the same. evo freees, have the pull battery to get it back working again, getting tired of it and it's not rooted.
What's the cause for this and why haven't htc produced a fix?
Also I'm thinking of picking up something else cheap and selling my evo, Motorolla photon or htc evo design? what's a better be?
What's the resale value of my evo 4 g/ 120?
Are you updated with the latest OTA? Have you done a factory reset recently?
Yes, all my evos freeze.

I had 3.0 and it frooze too, it's either all the evos freeze or its a program I'm running.
Can someone comment of the other phones?
It's something your doing, because the EVO 4G has been around almost 2 years and never heard of anyone having that problem before. And even if someone did have that problem on 1 phone, it wouldn't happen on a 2nd, let alone 4.
So I highly doubt changing to a different phone will help you at all.
Mine freezes occasionally, usually when I'm impatient and try to do a bunch of stuff right after it boots up and is still loading. Other than that, no freezes or other problems. It could be an app that you always have installed, maybe you should try factory resetting and see if it still does it. If it doesn't, slowly reinstall your apps until it does, then you'll be able to narrow down the problem more easily.

That being said the EVO Design 4G is a nice handset, my brother has one...with little rooting or 3rd party ROM support as of yet...I don't think there's even a forum for it on XDA.
Only time my phones freeze is when I try to do something right after boot b4 the media scanner finishes running or when I try to push the clockspeed past its limits just to see what will happen like the time I clocked the evo to 1.6 and it would freeze the bootani and need to be restored or on the et4g I tried clocking it to 2ghz and it would boot but then go to sleep of death once the screen goes off gotta pull the battery to turn it back on
Yeah, I've had my Evo since launch day, and the only time I have to do battery pulls is when I've tried clocking too high, or running a really experimental ROM.
The problem is on your end, I would say. Good luck. There's already good advice posted here.

If he's unrooted/stock, I don't think there are many apps/mods that would cause this kinda behavior.
Sent from my PC36100 using Xparent Blue Tapatalk
There are tons of apps and mods you can use unrooted, you can sideload apps on any rom by checking the unknown sources box and downloading and app from the internet and installing it even if it isn't mean for your device, and there are many mods you can do to unrooted devices such as 3rd party launchers, some scripts that can be run that don't require root, changing the SD read ahead cache, setting up profiles for CPU clockspeeds in apps such as setcpu or something similar, plus he mentioned he wasn't rooted then said he was rooted, he could be trying to use an app that requires root on an unrooted device, the possibilities of app conflicts on a rooted or unrooted device are near endless, especially if you use sideloaded apps that are cracks or warez such as games
