I believe its part of froyo update. I have not seen anyone overcome this issue. I just got used to it.

Hey XDA ..
My Legend have been doing a pretty weird thing lately.. Sometimes when I press the Menu button, it thinks I'm holding the Volume Down button. And of course it switches to silent mode and starts vibrating like hell ..
It stops when I press Volume Up or Menu. Afterwards won't any of the 2 and home buttons respond
After a little break or a reboot, it all goes back to normal... Well only sometimes ..
I think it is a software problem, so I did a hardreset but it didn't solve anything ?
My Legend was all stock with Android 2.1 .. It was not rooted or anything ..
I don't really have an idea what this is caused by.. so does any of you know wtf is going on or have a solution ?? Cause it pretty annoying
Thanks !
Sometimes pressing menu and back at the same time causes some really weird things to happen. I'm not sure of a solution, but it's always been a minor issue for me too. Although never in the same way as yours, not that bad.
Never had that problem before. But I do have the menu + back button issue, not a big deal though. My advice is your send your phone for warranty and have them check it out.
It did it several times yesterday and had to reboot all the time ..
Mine doesn't really seem to have that back and menu problem.. But what is it doing? Maybe I have the same issue without knowing it ?
But yeah could send it back for a check ...

Hello,
I have the same problem.
I don't think its a software problem I rooted the phone to sereral roms even froyo (azure).
Now I'm back to stock 1.31.405.
I'am thinking to send it back for warranty but i'm afraid they won't do anything or see that i rooted the phone.
Please keep me update what your are going to do about it or if you find solution.
Nice to know I'm not alone
I don't really know what to, and I'm was kinda hoping that some of you could help Cuz I'm not really pro at Android yet
But it haven't done it the last 2 days which I find really weird!

I think i'm gonna send the phone back.
I made a video to show the guys at the store what the problem is:
http://nl.tinypic.com/player.php?v=25i0i00&s=7
If someone has any suggestions to make it dissapear thx
I also have the menu+back issue, maybe it is a feature (lol)
It is really weird: you push both buttons and the phone shakes and lags a little bit and after few seconds it vibrates three times. I have no idea why...
PS: I have not found any info googling about this.

Mine does the exact same problem After a couple of minutes of usage, the problem suddenly appears..

Piacer pls keep me updated ..
I made a video too

But I'm also considering to send it in..
Had a very similar problem with my first legend. It didn't happen with the menu button but the volume was constantly being turned down, as if I was holding the volume down button. Brought it back for a replacement and have had no trouble with my new one.

Same problem for me!
if anyone have a clue, please help.
My warranty is in thailand... too far
I have the exact same problem. I tried everything. I even sent my phone in for repair and they "fixed" it and sent it back but it still has the exact same problem.
It seems like a hardware problem with these phones.

Damn i'm just going to send my legend for repair(first i will try out froyo).
I hope it will be fixed, not like yours
Hey
Have anyone of you got Froyo yet ? Just to see if it solved the issue ?
My Legend is unbranded so no Froyo for me yet .. But hope I get it in a couple of days
Mine is just back from warranty, they just put new software on it. Played one hour with it and it seems normal.

After reading this thread I just realised holding Menu brings up keyboard..
I read somewhere that the pressing back + menu button thing is a way of producing bug report for ppl who are using custom rom? im not sure if custom launcher does that too though...
when i press menu and back nothing happens to me, stock 2.1 and sense.
Same here, nice to know

I read that in the Cyanogen nightly thread also. Not too sure where the file ouput would be though, so its hard to check.

About three to five times a day I pull my streak out of my pocket and my touchscreen wont work. I'm forced to take the battery out and restart the device.
Phone is under a month old.

I have seen that happen once in last one day!
(Its my first day with streak, and I have really loaded the phone with market apps! lolz.)
I guess there must have been some conflict-condition with multi installed apps here.
Have you tried factory reset? ( works for many such issues..)
I will try that, if it happens again et-all!
OT: I have observed that many a times, the screen starts carrying error touch-here-clicks-there!
care,
Sony.
this topic is all over the forums and people have cracked it down to too much static on the screen which confuses the capacitive sensors. a quick easy fix someone suggested that has worked for me is a screen recalibration but if the problem persists there really isnt a fix. the quickest way to recover the screen is to get rid of the static by wiping your hand over the entire screen
also please your the search function in the forums as this has been discussed numerous times, thanks
The screen recal seemed to have fixed it. Thank you.

So for some reason, the last few days the touchscreen on my phone was being super slow, and id have to turn off the screen, then turn it back on multiple times and keep trying to slide it to unlock. I dont know how this started. Ive been using the NexusHD2-Gingerbread V2.9.
Ive tried other ROMs and restored previous backups and nothing is working. The screen is still not responsive. Ive never had this happen before and not sure what else to do. Its just stuck on the lock screen but everything is unresponsive....any ideas???

Unfortunately, your touchscreen digitizer is dying. This is related to the hardkey malfunction. The only thing you can so now is flash back to stock WM Tom and send it back for repair. The phone's touchscreen need to be replaced.
Good luck,

Yeah thats what ive been reading, and right after i started this thread i was reading on another and read that you can fix it if you hold the power button down firmly (apparently the digitzier is right behind it)....that worked for me.
I think too much flashing and changing ROMS using the power button didnt help hehehe

Try using zMooth or Button Savior. This help your hardkey a lot. Since I have zMooth and Button Savior install on my phone, I no longer have to use the hardkey.

!!!!! FIND SOLUTION !!!!!
The digitiZer is under the hangup button. press the button bit hard till it nudges the digitiser a little. it worked for me.
(found it from : http://www.htcphones.net/htc-hd2-problems-with-touchscreen/ )
I'm so cool now!!
I have been living on this solution for almost 2 months now.
However I can't take it anymore not because I am lazy!
but because when sometimes you need to make a quick call or grab that
camera instantly I tend to waste a good 5 minutes trying to make that hardpress on the end key work with the digitizer cable.
My question is, would changing the digitizer work? or is it something else?
Ever noticed that T-Mobile HD2 has soldered digitizer connection to the LCD vs. flex-cable socket in standard Leo?
hey everyone.
My wife has a problem with her UP button on her phone. The DOWN works fine but pressing UP doesn't do anything. I tried to clean it as best I could but it didn't help at all. Anyone ever have this problem or have any idea what I can do?
Thanks lots =)
Was it nasty from her dirty fingers?

I guess that was a good try at a witty response but it just didn't work. Better luck next time.
If anyone has any ideas I would appreciate it.
lol at the attempt to troll. The hardware button might just be wearing thin, try disassembling and cleaning with a qtip? worked for my power button
yea, thanks. That was my next move. Just wanted to see if anyone else had similar problems before I started unscrewing stuff.
cheers
let us know how it goes
My Friend's N4 has developed a strange problem. The Soft buttons (Home, Back & Recent Apps) are not working when the phone is held in portrait orientation. However, they do work in landscape orientation.
He tested the touch screen with a multi touch tester app and found that there is no touch response at the lower portion of the screen exactly in that area that would get occupied by the soft button bar in portrait mode.
The phone is all stock. Non-rooted and bootloader is locked.
Anyone faced such an issue? Please help!
I have the exact same problem, as many other it seems. If i turn the phone clockwise, so that the back arrow/home/apps buttons are displayed where the signal bar is, the buttons work as ecpected; on the other hand, if i rotate the phone the opposite way, the buttons do not work.
It's curious because, as you can see from the partial screenshot below, the phone is rotated counter clockwise and i have swiped to test google now (you can see the dots near the back arrow). So i guess that means that some touch input is registered after all.
I'd like to make some test with those multitouch apps. Can you suggest one?

Hello I have the same problem!!
I have already did a full wipe and installed CM 11 and Paranoid Android but still facing the same issue!!! Any ideas?
Sounds like you have a hardware problem, you'll need to buy and replace the screen and digitizer assembly.

Same prob
i have the exact same problem and my warantee expired. it seems most people have this prob after the warantee expires.
Check out the guide below and hopefully you can avoid replacing your nexus 4 screen or digitiser
