When you type in a new URL on your normal pc with a browser (Firefox of IE eg) he selects all the text and you can immediatly type in a new address. However, with the Tab when you click on the URL bar you always (at least I do) have to backspace the address that is shown in the bar and only after this you can type a new address. Is there a way to do this like on a normal pc?
ps. I tested it with Opera, stock browser and Dolphin and it s there with all three.
Doesnt do it with my dolphin or stock browser. When i touch the url bar, it highlights the whole thing blue so when i type, it deletes it all first.

Although I do not have Galaxy Tab (I have Galaxy S), I'm experiencing the same thing, both in Opera as well as in stock browser. I'm sure it was not so from beginning. I suspect that some app must be interfering but as till now I couldn't find which.
I'm on JK5, and I can confirm that both in stock and Dolphin, when I touch the address bar it is already highlighted, so I just need to type to delete what is there.
Regards,
Dave

For me on my Galaxy S (Froyo) it was also like this, but after some time (probably after installing some app) it stopped behaving like that. When the browser is in portrait mode everything works fine, but if I switch to landscape then after selecting address bar initially the url is highlighted, but then the keyboard appears with some delay and selection is lost and cursor placed at the end of url. I'm pretty sure it is fault of some app, but till now I couldn't confirm it. On Eclair I've never experienced anything like this, so I guess it also has something to do with Froyo too.
quicker way, don't click on the address bar, just press the search key

simple but great tip! thxz
I could be wrong but I've noticed this only happen on AT&T Tab with JK5. I didn't see this issue on Tmob tab which I no longer have so couldn't confirm.
Besides the searc tip above, anyone knows how to fix this (clicking on URL it highlights the string instead of bringing up the full keyboard)?
TIA

This is what I do and it works on all browsers: touch and hold the address bar until popup menu shows up and use "select all".
Funny thing. It only happens to me when i have my tab in landscape mode; in portrait when i select the address bar, it highlights the url, but in landscape it doesn't. Uhm?

Anyone else try out these slide-out browser quick controls?
I 'love' them. I turned them on a few days after getting the tab and havent looked back.
How about you?
To enable this feature for the stock browser go to settings - labs - quick controls and make sure the box it ticked. Now in the browser, slide in from the side and a wheel of sorts will pop out with all your controls.
Very slick feature.
I have been using them since day one. Love it.
Yes, they're handy once you get the hang of them.
Very nice, thanks for sharing that tip!

Where is this? Dont have an entry for "labs" under "settings"?
Settings in the browser, not general setting on the tablet. Top right corner in the browser.
I think it actually comes enabled by default on the Xoom; needless to say it was refreshing to see when I first started using the tablet. Using the menu in the upper right hand corner is not as user friendly.
The only thing I have noticed is that it is difficult to initiate controls with the acer case, because the edge comes right up to the screen. I usually have to attempt the gesture a couple of times in order for the controls to come up.

I've never had that problem. Simply slide your finger 'into' the screen, from the bezel. Works like a charm every time and I love how it appears at the exact position your finger made the sliding motion into the page, rather than a single static location.
If I had one feature request, it would be 1 more button you could use to hold it as a handle to slide the wheel up or down the side, and tap it to pin it or unpin it.
Heh - didn't even know this existed until I saw this thread. Not sure I like it though - I usually close the last tab to close the browser (since back makes you step through all pages viewed and home would leave it open.)

How do you close the browser with last tab? The tab disappears and browser turns full screen everytime specially when there's only one tab left. I find it hard to bring the tab to appear again.
Sent from my A500 using Tapatalk
funny I know... I open up a new blank one... close the last one and then hit the back button to close the whole thing out... he he... I woudn't mind if the tabs were up there all thetime or use a quick menu to pop it up and down...
You can actually just do a long press on the webpage and it will bring up the tabs at the top, then you can close them.

That's how I do it right now, but sometimes it selects the text for copy/paste instead of displaying the tab. You really have to find an empty spot on the browser page to make it work. Adding a new tab and closing, then closing the last tab requires a really fast finger to catch the last tab. Sometimes I'm slow to click on the last tab and it just hides again. How I wish the default browser has an option to exit, similar to Dolphin browser.
Why the desire to have an exit, to hide the porn your surfing?
Keeping the browser in memory is useful, because that is alot of what I use this thing for.

Hi TF fans,
The question is what happened to the tabs in the stock browser? I have updated to 3.1 and I'm using the quick access buttons. but I can't see the tabs as they were before? At the top of the browser screen?
Where can I find help about the new layout and buttons from the quick access menu?
Any ideas,
rio
Yes you loose the tabs when choosing quick access.
IIRC it was the same way with 3.0.1

No, I've been using quick access since i got my TF on UK release day. Always had both visible tabs and QA.

Oh OK, it's been a while since I was on the older firmware so I don't remember.
Might nandroid back just to see.
You still have the ability to open new tabs with the quick access tab and now in the quick access tab you can scroll thru all the open tabs you have.
Cool option but takes a little getting used to work.

In the Browser, go to Settings, Labs, and enable Quick Controls. It lets you swipe your finger in from the bezel to access a "quick" menu.
I remember specifically the reason I didn't use the quick controls when I first got my TF (back on 3.0.1) was because it hid the tabs and URL bars. I have a US TF though, maybe that's where the difference lies!

Yes I went back to the old firmware and the tabs are there but the
new 3.1 there are options to switch tabs, add tab, ect. in the Quick access.
Yeah to confirm, with quick controls on 3.0.1, if you had 2+ tabs you'd see the tab bar. However with just 1 page you'd see no tab bar until you opened a new tab. I too preferred the old way as you could see everything you had open...
I had the same "problem" (and actually posted here about it) until I got used to it. Now, I barely notice it as I am fairly proficient with the quick access side swipe.

how do you close a tab when using the quick controls? i can see & switch to which ever one I want, i believe i can even open a new one, but i don't see how to close one short of turning the quick controls off and closing the tab at the top.

try dolphin v5 its rocks, and make sure you use the gesture feature.
I am trying to remove the 'exit' prompt when hitting the back key. The FAQ at their website says go to Menu/More/Settings to turn off the prompt. Problem is that I can't find Menu/More/Settings. Where is it?
Hit the system menu button at the bottom left of the screen. Go into settings (you might not have to hit "More"), change settings.
Entropy,
Thanks for your reply. I'm sorry for being so slow but I do not see any menu button at the bottom left of the screen. When I bring up the Dolphin browser I have a left arrow for back, a up arrow that brings up the tablet home page, a layered rectangle that brings up a graphical column that has My Apps, Team Stream, Gmail, Google Search, and Settings.
If I hit Settings I do not get a "More". The last icon at the lower left, a rectangle grid brings up the a bottom six options; refresh, bookmarks, toolbar, forward, exit, and uh-oh "more". Oops! There it is. Found exit settings and fixed the problem. Thank you very much.
lmao!
Glad you got it! Totally got a chuckle out of that stream of consciousness style there lol

Hey Gmfeny, did you get you random wifi disconnects sorted... I read that you used the wifi analyzer (where did you find that..?) and then at your womans pad, it started working. What is the latest. Later on.
I've noticed that after pressing the home button and swiping between menues there is a VERY SMALL, yet noticeable lag. Sometimes the clock/weather widget reloads. It was like this out of the box the first day. Then you start swiping between homescreens and its gone and everything is smooth as butter literally.
I saw this in one of the review videos too. Hopefully a software update addresses this. Somewhat annoying as the phone has 2GB of memory.

Same here... Swiping the home screen is smooth but returning to the home screen via the home button causes a 1 second delay...
I have also noticed the clock / weather widget refreshes when returning to home screen from apps at times...
Overall it's not big deal and I am sure it will be fixed in the next update...
yes~!!! this is one of the annoying parts of this phone.
it isn't performance related either. in nova launcher i have it set that pressing home when at the default screen brings up the app drawer. doing so causes the same fraction-of-a-second delay. but pressing the actual app drawer button on the screen is immediate. something in the Android software is causing this delay between button-push and action.
Thought it was just me.
I'm going to root it and flash ultimatum. Hopefully it gets rid of it.

Thanks guys. Glad to see its not just my phone. Its by no means bad, just annoying. The home button needs to be more responsive. Hopefully in a software update. If this is all we have to worry about then I'm good.
Yea. Same goes for me, tried both apex and nova just to test if the lag depends on the launcher. I'm on apex now though, a bit less laggy than nova.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Nova with fancy widgets (sense style clock) and voice disabled not really seeing any lag.
There is a setting you can turn off to fix this home button delay actually.
What you do is
1. Go to apps
2. Find "S-Voice" and open it
3. Hit settings button
4. In settings there is a option for "Launch S Voice" near the top of the settings.
5. Click the box to stop it from launching S-Voice when you hit the home button.
6. Now the home button works very quickly, no more second delay.

The delay is there because if you double tap the home button it brings up SVoice, so it gives a small Window waiting for the second press before going to the home screen.

If I wanted to be a "talking to your cell phone like its a person" douche I would have bought an iPhone. Keep your dignity and just type in whatever you're trying to do, it will probably take less time then getting the voice recognition to get it right
TW is pretty weak for a launcher though.. I put on my ol' trusty ADW launcher and no lag to be seen there..

The one and only thing I ever use android's voice recognition for -- and you don't even need S-Voice for this -- is setting alarms, because it's quicker than doing it manually and very accurate.
e.g.: "set alarm forty five minutes"
lol, didn't yall watch any reviews on Youtube? They stated there's a slight delay because it's waiting for a second press for S-Voice. I thought everyone knew that.
Not when pressing the home. When swiping through home screens. There is a slight delay. Its Ever so noticeable. More so when having a few widgets on the home screen.
