I know I know...I CANT be the only one debating it. But now that its officially out, I must admit that despite how much I HATE the Samsung Galaxy phones, this one looks pretty tight. Hardware wise I know Samsung are great. But I have 2 friends with Galaxy phones who DESPISE them and have even offered to trade them for a Nexus One straight up.
I know dual core phones will be out very soon, but what Im actually only interested in owning Googles "baby" when it comes to support and updates.
So here it is....
Are you going to sell your Nexus One for a Nexus S?
I LOVE my Nexus One..LOVE IT...Im a bit stuck on this one.
Thoughts?
No, I found it too difficult to get a decent price for my Nexus
IF there is an AT&T version then I will get one. My Nexus One has a broken screen and I'm in desperate need of a new phone.
Nope. While it has some advantages over the N1, they are not major enough for me to change. With dual core around the corner, I think I'll pass on the S and wait it out till Q1.

Yep. Only if I can get 3G on AT&T.
I put mine up for sale, and just took it down. I'm gonna wait for something better. When N1 was released, desire came out. I'm gonna hope that when Nexus S comes out, HTC will release something the same, but hopefully more features like an SD slot. Besides... Phone isn't even a year old yet!

Most I could get responses for on Craigslist was a measly $350...
Do I really want to take a $225 loss ($575 original N1 price / tax minus $350 Craigslist sale price) just so that I could upgrade to a SuperAmoled screen and front facing camera? Nope
Im staying with the nexus one...the screen res. is higher on the nexus one then nexus s
My Nexus one has been great for me but I just love shiny new tech toys and the Nexus S kinda looks bad ass and ninja stealthy in all black so yes I'm going to get it (though spec wise it's nothing to shout about). Will still keep my nexus one though for hacking with android.
I'm getting one.
It is not looking good, is is crippled from stock Galaxy S:
- No MicroSD slot, only 16GB onboard
- No 720p video recording (!?!?! will this come in Honeycomb or something)
- Bluetooth 2.1 instead of 3.0
- 1mm thicker than Galaxy S
Things it has that Galaxy S doesn't have
- Gingerbread (Galaxy will get 2.3 soon hopefully that a similar phone has it)
- LED Flash (Couldn't care less)
- NFC (By the time this is mainstream i will probably be through to a new phone anyway)
So looks like Galaxy S is a better buy

You're aware Samsung makes the Nexus S, right?
I plan to sell my Nexus One. Its in great condition T-Mobile model with 16GB SD card. If anyone is interested let me know .
I'm going to pass. I'm happy with my AT&T/Rogers Nexus One. I hear it's quite rare now!
The plastic Nexus S is a dealbreaker. The thing looks too plastic-y for my tastes. It's all about teflon / brushed metal!
I'm passing too! I <3 my N1. The new S isn't standing out at all for me. Sure, 2.3 stock but ill get 2.3 once Cyanogen (my fav mod) releases their version in a month or so. I also love how i can upgrade to up to 32gb sd card which is awesome.
He** NO, after samsung lied about the updates to the Behold II they will never have me as a customer again, Nexus One forever! or at least till there is a Dual Core HTC.
dual core phones coming in future with the tegra 2 and the orion chips, not to mention a possibly newer google phone with honeycomb which might also have dual core.
LG and Samsung are also developing new screens which they will implement in the near future and not to mention there isnt too much that the nexus offers. Most people will only buy it cos it comes with vanilla android and will get faster updates. It also lacks 4g which i suspect will become norm for phones in 2011 with more networks using it.
Was hoping for a higher res camera and screen and by the looks of it this phone also misses out on features already available on many other phones like Wifi direct, DLNA, HDMI, MicroSD slot Bluetooth 3.0 etc. The NFC is basically future proofing your phone as not many things currently support it, its like having a 3D TV with hardly any 3D content. Much better off waiting for the next flagship phone from Samsung and since the Nexus is a rebranded galaxy s then we porting over the new updates the Nexus recieves wont take too long i think
Nope. I have a G2 and an N1.... love the N1 too much plus the Nexus S doesn't even have HSPA+ on it....
No, I'm selling my Vibrant that I got for free.
I keeping my Nexus.
Depends. If Samsung releases a car dock and desktop dock similar to the N1's, then I'll consider selling my N1. Otherwise, I'll keep the N1 for roadtrip use and use it as a bedside tablet and alarm clock.
http://tinyurl.com/3m8t8xx looks like it might be it but even better with the 4.5 inch screen instead of 4.3.
From this article here http://tinyurl.com/3cvcy47 it says that Sprint, AT&T and Verizon Galaxy S2 will be getting this accessory and maybe T-Mobile wasnt added to this list because the T-Mobile version will maybe be getting a Galaxy S2 with a modified form factor then the rest of the carriers, what do you guys think? It has a new Quallcomm dual 1.2 chip in there instead of the Exnos or Tegra im not sure if that will be a good move or a bad move because Samsungs chip was proven faster then Quallcomms dual processor in the HTC Sensation but maybe this updated chip will have better results..
Was just reading up on this as well
http://androidandme.com/2011/05/new...idandme+(Android+and+Me)&utm_content=FaceBook
Android 2.3 Gingerbread
1.2 Ghz Dual-core Qualcomm APQ8060 Processor
4.5-inch Super AMOLED Plus display with a resolution of 480 x 800
1GB of RAM and 16GB of ROM
8MP back-facing camera with flash
Front-facing camera
1080p video recording
HDMI-out with the microUSB port
4G support for both T-Mobile and AT&T
NFC support
Not SUPER impressed, but looks pretty nice.
Im very interested in how this new Qualcomm chip will do againts the Qualcomm chip in the Sensation.
It's rumoured to come out in Q4....when Tegra3 devices will begin popping up, doesn't seem as awe inspiring as before :/

Here's a product brief of the Qualcomm MSM8x60 (MSM8260 for Sensation) and APQ8060 (for Hercules).
http://www.qualcomm.com/documents/snapdragon-msm8x60-apq8060-product-brief
Here's some info on the modem Qualcomm MDM8220.
http://www.thesearethedroids.com/2009/11/12/qualcomm-looking-ahead/#more-613
"Qualcomm’s MDM8220 dual-carrier HSPA+ solution, based on the 3GPP Release 8 standard, provides peak downlink data rates of up to 42 megabits per second (Mbps) and 11 Mbps on the uplink, allowing carriers to easily upgrade their existing infrastructure equipment to achieve significantly higher bandwidths. Its dual-carrier technology doubles networks’ bandwidth from 5 MHz to 10 MHz by aggregating two HSPA carriers in parallel."
The Hercules sounds great, but I'm worried that it won't get much support from Samsung or XDA since it won't likely sell very many if the $350 on contract rumors are true.

theres no way that could be true. I mean whats the highest price phones go for? 199 usually and 250 with a $50 mail in rebate? still puts it at 199 after MIR. I doubt they would want to be the first to break that by a good $100.
i mean cmon, Apple hasnt even done it for the iphones yet! hahaha
i was desperately trying to buy the SGS2 last week, and iu was about to hit the buy button. i wanted that full RGB pixel display instead of hte pentile.
but i went to ATT and played with the Infuse, and i actually was not that impressed as i thought i would be. the pixels actually looked a little better on my nexus one cause of the smaller size even though the pentile stinks.
so now i'm not so sure about all these 4.5 inch AMOLED plus screens coming out. a little too big i think.
That 4.5" is big that I also tried the Infuse...I'll be checking out the Sensation's 4.3" for size/feel once released.

The $350 pricing is off-contract. According to the Samsung leak, it was in the "over $350" price category. Considering the SGS2 retails for $800 off-contract...

That's good news. I guess the remaining issue is how long it will take for the Hercules to arrive and would it be smarter just to wait for the SGS3.
I'm either getting the nokia n9, Nexus 3 or this phone.

i dont see how it can have the apq8060 or w/e apq it is. because that's a processor without a modem for any data, so the specs have to be wrong. ive done some research and it's been a pain in the you know what. if it's the msm8x60 im not getting. i want this because of the high speed hspa+ 42mbps. thats insane. i saw a video of the rocket 3.0 pulling in 25mbps down and 5 up. would be cool if it were 4.3" with the exynos processor though. i played with the infuse seems too big. but the "hercules" is just a tad bit shorter not much though.

It's all rumor though right now. It could potentially end up with a exynos cpu if enough of them are made available. If they tried to launch a "Hercules" today they probably wouldn't have exynos stock due to the popularity of the GSII.

yup this indeed has been confirmed by the Tweet from Samsung
Recently, there's been a rumor going around saying that there will be a Galaxy SII Plus or Galaxy S3 that will be released with the iPhone 5 launch.
The new Galaxy SII plus would feature a 1.4 GHz dual core processor and possible upgrade on the screen resolution.
This one article kinda sums it all up.
Maybe the delay is because the phone needed some more upgrades to fight with the iPhone 5 (although I think the current Galaxy SII beats the speculated specs for the iPhone 5). Remember the SGSII passed FCC in April?
I would love an upgraded Galaxy SII on Sprint!
http://www.headlinesnews.net/15165/further-delays-suggest-samsung-galaxy-s2-‘plus’-for-us-market
The Samsung Galaxy S2 Plus or S3 is rumoured to boast a 1.4GHz processor and 1GB of RAM, along with the ever-popular Super AMOLED screen and TouchWiz user interface. The original S2 has already gained a massive following overseas, currently selling in volumes across the UK in excess of the iPhone 4.
As such, an upgrade to an already superb unit could be just what Samsung need to deliver the extra ‘wow’ factor required to give the iPhone 5 a run for its money. Of course, attempting to better the iPhone 5 is akin to grasping in the dark, but it certainly seems that Samsung have every intention of setting the bar for the market, and setting it rather high at that.

interesting ... we shall have to wait and see
Guys, this is what I've been waiting for. :good:
Samsung just released it’s Android 4.1 Jelly Bean kernel source code for the LTE Samsung Galaxy S III (GT-I9305). Don’t confuse this device with the dual-core snapdragon S4 US Variant as this is the European LTE variant. GT-I9305 has the same Quad-Core Exynos 4412 CPU and the same ARM’s Mali-400MP GPU as the international Samsung Galaxy S III (GT-I9300).The only differences are that the European LTE variant uses 2GB RAM instead of 1GB and has LTE Radios.
This means that 3rd party Android developers, like the CyanogenMod team, can use European LTE Galaxy S III’s (GT-I9305) Android 4.1 Jelly Bean kernel source code to fix major bugs like the Memory Leak, HW Composer and Mali GPU related issues they were having with the International Samsung Galaxy S III (GT-I9300) as these both devices are very much identical. This source code can vastly improve and improve their Custom ROMs.

What do you think, best phone ever? If they would only pack it with a non-pentile-screen also, but at this point I can't say no any more, coming from my Arc S.
It will be interesting to see benchmark results and what difference the RAM might do.

My thoughts exactly. Seriously, what company releases a new model to replace their top of the line phone within 4 months of release. I love my Samsung phones but this is really bad form on Samsungs part.
Imagine if Apple releases the iPhone 6 in 4 months time. There will be riots. It won't happen. So much for resale value on the S3 i9300. Once stock runs out here in Oz it will no longer be sold. Replaced by the i9305.

Frankly, this is what I expected the initial GS3 to be like. This and a non-pentile screen. Maybe old Sammy didn't finish LTE-integration in time for the GT-I9300, and maybe they packed it with only 1 gig RAM to save a few bucks. Idunno. Sorry to say, I think we're gonna have to live with 720-pen-tile 'til spring next year.
But this version is going to be... blistering! Especially after the buzz with launcher redraws due to lack of RAM, I'm looking forward to the comparisons. It comes in all-black as well.
I wonder what the coming Nexus will be based on. Do we dare to hope? I don't think Sammy will allow a copy of GT-I9305 as a Nexus, but man would it be nice.
Let's sit and wait for a release date.
If all GT-i9300 ROMs work on this i9305 then I'm sold instantly.
From what i've heard LTE uses quite a lot of ram so that's why it's needed in the I9305 version...

No it doesnt use that much ram it would use as much as the korean version and I have a screenshot showing 1.1gb Free Ram and thats with alot of tasks running. I have been waiting for this phone for over 1 month now its pretty old news, It was released in australia yesterday but its 16gb version so I am waiting for the 32gb which I will snap up straight away shouldnt be that much longer now.
And this will the the final release of the flagship phone before the S4 who cares why is everyone crying they releasing a better phone. Better for us we have more options now. I actually cant wait to get my hands on this one in my opinion this is how the original specs should look like finally they actually thought abit and released it
Because many people bought this phone outright for $800+ at launch

Its a nice phone and if I was in the market today I would get one instead of the i9300... 1.1g of free ram is nice, but frankly if you have that much "free" at any point in time its just wasted. Had zero multitasking issues with the i9300..
Don't worry guys.... after all releases of any Samsung models you will still go for whatever phone you want to buy...you will always be disappointed, that's how they control consumers... just think!!!
I thought we already know how this works! This people at Samsung sales are just laughing.... So why don't we just stay with what phone we have and maybe change it after 2 years, that's how it's suppose to be.
Except if you have a lot of money to spend with buying top of the line phones. Then go for it!
It was when there was a problem of getting a quad-core to work with a 4G LTE Chipset (Reason why all the American S3 's have dual-cores). They only were able to find a solution when they were testing the Galaxy Note 2. Since then, they can now get the new Quad-core into the Galaxy S3 with 4G. 4G also will use more RAM than its predecessor.
Even Apple tried to fix it, until recently they were able to fit the quad-core A6 chip into their iPhone5 with LTE. They could have put in a quad-core into their iPad 3, but didn't at the time cuz of the 4G / Quad-core incompatibility, instead they used the A5X (The original dual-core A5 processor hyper-threaded to a logical 4 cores) not a quad-core.
Well, now we're all gonna be getting more powerful quad-core powered phones with 4G!!!
wel I will let you know if its wasted ram or not when I get it I will report back. I also bought the l9300 But I didnt pay 800, Few hundred dollars less. And I will sell it after I buy the I9305, I will be out of pocket maximum $100 so I think that's a good deal.

I'll never understand people who pay an absurd amount per month on a phone plan when you could just outright buy a phone and it pays for itself in less than six months by paying for a reasonable plan. I pay $30 a month. I have 5gb of 4gLTE data.

What?! Surely that must be a typo? Why would it only have QC 2.0?
Benefits I can see
-Snapdragon 835 vs 820
-Newer Adreno for GPU
-Bluetooth 5.0 vs 4.2
-Slightly more pixels.
That's about it.

I have to agree with TPMJB, I think it would be a bad move. There was a nice offer to get a S8 on Amazon, but the differences are against the S8. The A7 has such a greater sound, greater battery, already a great screen, its CPU and GPU are more than enough for any game (but I don't play), 4GB RAM is also more than enough, ...
Why spending more to get less or something that's not yet needed?

ZTE AXON 8 will be released in 2-3 months and will address any Snapdragon gap, plus keep lower price and stereo speakers.
Plus with a paid off phone you can go pre-paid on major carriers. I pay $38.25 total monthly with no taxes/fees on AT&T (GoPhone, AT&T's in-house prepaid brand) for 6GB high speed data/unlimited calls/unlimited texts.
You can tell that's "pure" AT&T by the low ping speeds. MVNOs have higher ping speeds (higher lag).
But I bring my own phone, so I can get the pre-paid prices. I will never be "post paid" customer" where they rip you off.
I also make sure any phone I own can be rooted and have custom ROMs.
________
The only thing the S8 has the ZTE Axon 7 lacks is the Qi wireless charging. Other than that, the 1-year old ZTE Axon 7 still beats the Samsung Galaxy 8 in every significant way (award winning DAC, front facing stereo speakers), etc.
If I were to get an S8, I would make sure it was the Exynos variant that could be rooted, surely NOT the AT&T branded model!

but is there really a snapdragon gap? I mean, is our snappy already a has been? Serious question, not trying to start a flame war or anything

I said "any" gap. I was just addressing the points listed. Where the Snapdragon 835 is different is allowing much faster carrier speeds (eventually), like 1GB LTE. Not that you'll see that any time soon. So, there's no rush to buy Snapdragon 835 phones until your carriers can deliver the speeds... But yes, the Snapdragon 835 and comparable (like Exynos) are an evolutionary step forward.
My point was, don't jump for the Galaxy S8 when there's LOTS more phones coming out in the next few months that will also have Snapdragon 835 and will be better than the S8, and probably less expensive. Including, but not least the ZTE Axon 8.
I still have a 2014 Snapdragon 805 phone. I'm not buying another phone until a manufacturer released a phone that has all the features I want, or very close to it. The ZTE Axon 7 came very close -- only the lack of Qi wireless charging kept me from buying it.

Just got notice Friday night, that I'm eligible for a device upgrade on my At&t plan.....Since then, all's I've thought about was a Galaxy S8! It also doesn't help that 3 people at work and my brother-in-law all recently picked up the S8 and I've help them get them set up... These are seriously some nice looking phones!
There's several reason's I'm thinking of switching....But I'm seriously considering it?!?!
Am I crazy?

I was on the same boat until I had it physically on my and hand, and the design is sexy af, but honestly, that's all. I have always been away from Samsung devices because I hate capacitive buttons, and when Huawei (favorite brand) started to put them, I started to look for something else, and Samsung made the contrary move by remove them and improve the design.
Screen is more less the same, and you have to know that battery is noticeable worse when using the device in full resolution, because they come with FHD as default and most of the tests about battery were done with this resolution.
Speaker is average, but is mono. Is a big dealbreaker for me, because no point in having that nice display when you have a mono speaker, is just ruins the multimedia experience.
And the final thing for me to make me pass for the S8 was the fingerprint scanner, next to the camera is the most retarded place to put it, so pretty much is unusable for me.
Price is not important for me, fortunately I can buy any device I want, and I was going to buy the S8 until I had it on my hand. Also I was considering the P10 Plus, mostly because of the camera, but that capacitive button is just not that nice and gestures don't work correctly. I was playing like 10 minutes with it, and gestures were all buggy and not intuitive. Before that, I also had the Mate 9, but I returned it and came back to the Axon 7 because of the screen and sound, even when camera was slightly better.
In conclusion, I won't be changing the Axon 7 until I see a real contender to it. Real stereo speakers, nice battery, good display and decent camera are enough for me, which none of the devices released in 2107 have. In my opinion, exchanging the multimedia experience for a "better" design is not the best move to do.

what I meant is that there is not really a gap, it's not like the 820 is so slow already that one NEEDS a 835. A real gap is something like a a notebook with an Atom and a real laptop with a Pentium or a Core.
So the S8 has a faster processor but not needed by any application around.
Beside, I've read so many times that the S8 screen is very fragile. One drop and...
What are you tempted by? The stupid price? Locked bootloader? No root? Red tinted display? Random reboots? Subpar battery life? Fast charging not working while the display is on? Bloat? Lag? Lack of updates? Lower Android version than what the Axon is currently on? help me understand this temptation.

My boy chrih steps into the ring and immediately delivers a knockout blow early into the first round.
LG V20 here, Samsung sucks. Don't buy any of their phones unless you want a bloated piece of **** that'll run like ass after a few weeks of usage and break more than iPhones.

Will the Axon 8 be released soon? I thought they were going to release an Axon 7S or something like that. Slightly upgraded Axon 7 (more ram, I think and slightly better snapdragon)
Edit: It's the Axon 7S, not the 8. There's not much difference between the 7 and the 7s

There will be an Axon 8. The 7S is just an update for China, with Snadragon 821. It probably won't be released to other countries.
The AXON 7 was announced end of May last year, released in June. The previous flagship (2015) was middle of summer (announced July, released August). With the Snapdragon 835 situation could be June/July.

As far as I know, the Axon 8 will be the same device as the Axon 7S, and they will just change the name for international market.
It seems the real change maybe will come next year when they released the Gigabyte phone the showed earlier this year.
