[Q] In Search of 8.6.5.9 cwm - Eee Pad Transformer General

I know Roach2010 posted the 3.2 update that was CWM flashable, but I was wondering if I was over looking the 8.6.5.9 or if it just hasn't made it's way on here yet. Keeping my eyes peeled for it. Thanks for any info.

If you use Brk's Rootkit Script, then you can install the 3.6.5.6 version of CWM. It will work. Just do not flash ROOT.

Asus Update
I have CWM on my tab right now and I have it rooted. I was wondering about the update Asus just released. I haven't seen anyone say if just allowing the update would mess anything up or if it works just fine. Roach released a zip that you could install via cwm and since I have a lot of faith in him and most xda devs, I just wanted to see if that option was available. I really just want to nagging update message to go away. Which might be something else to look for, how to disable auto updates.

Thanks Mike,
These manual update files just posted on their site this week. Odd when Asus announcing the TF HC 3.2 starting its rollout tomorrow 7/28...
With the news of the official Honeycomb 3.2 OTA starting tomorrow, if I reloaded with this zip, I'm wondering if it will restore to stock 3.1.
Right now I'm running Revolver 1.1.3 ROM with CWM recovery. I think I would have to reload stock recovery first though then load the zip from Asus's site. That way I can get the 3.2 OTA update when it's pushed out.

If you have rooted using nvflash, then you might be ready for a big shock. I have been trying for days now and to get an OTA ....in vain. it seems that nvflash changed something. the only way was to flash the ota manually now. right now, back to stock i am still on the 3.0.1 rom waiting for a miracle. ( and to clear thing up, when i bought my tab, i did get the .11 update on startup.so the thing that the update might not have hit me is out of question)

Perhaps Asus aren't offering it to you because you are logged at their end already having got it? As usually you wouldn't be going backwards, once you have it, you won't need it offering again.

yes. you have a point here but imo i dont think this is the case. users who have used the previous pure root method recorded no problems whatsoever unrooting and still receiving updates. please understand that i am not critisizing or anything. i am just looking for a solution right now for a 2nd transformer which i intend to pass to someone who wont be loading customs roms.....)

[WARNING] OTA2 will fix root exploit!

As writen by the Lenovo Staff in the lenovo Forum:
1. OTA2 will fix the root exploit of OTA1. It is unacceptable to our enterprise customers deploying a business tool like ThinkPad Tablet to have a known root exploit - so we have no choice but to fix the exploit. My advice to anyone who wants to keep root, is to stay on OTA1. Fixing the root exploit took less than a day - it is not (and never has been) the reason for OTA2 delays. Nobody within Lenovo will have anything more to say about rooting the ThinkPad Tablet, so please don't ask any follow-up questions about this - or at least don't expect any answers. Thank you in advance for understanding this.
2. OTA2 delays are being caused by various issues found during testing. We are trying hard to get OTA2 done right and everyone within Lenovo understands how many important fixes are in it. Bsnf will probably have more to say about this tomorrow - whether OTA2 will release this week, or if there will be another delay while we fix a last-minute issue found during testing. We apologize for the delay.

Well if you have cwr and can flash unsigned zips, then both should be possible after some modifying
Remember, the stock ROM overwrites the recovery ROM at every boot!! The new OTA will re-enable that feature...

I meant modifying before flashing. But thanks for making it clear for everyone.
This is extremely lousy. I am regretting buying one of these now. What are the chances it gets rooted again? Unfortunately I updated to the OTA2 before seeing this.

Hu? Where did you get OTA2? I can't find it on the lenovo servers.
I didn't realize that the OTA2 wasn't out yet. I just hit the auto update and assumed that it was the ota 2 update. I am on build "ThinkPadTablet_A310_02_0037_0075_US". I will try the root exploit and see if it works. Hopefully someone can modify the ota update to maintain root.
According to a post over in the Lenovo forums it is, but those on root will not get the update OTA naturally.

That was released in Nov 2011:

ok, 0086_we is available via ota.
i just downloaded it automatically.
the update.zip is stored in /cache, just in case someone wants to delete it and prevent the update on next restart.
might it be possible to manipulate the update.zip and include su (maybe a silly question, but i'm far away from being a dev or android-expert).

Should be possible. You have at least to edit the update.script in the zipfile and to look for parts like this (from the orignal script):
Code:
ui_print("Removing unneeded files...");
delete("/system/app/LenovoBookmarkWidget-1.0.023.apk",
"/system/app/LenovoConfigFileHandler-1.2.001.apk",
"/system/app/LenovoSetupWizard-1.2.001.apk",

"/system/app/dxtg-lenovo-usa_3.003.1049.apk", "/system/bin/aescrypt",
"/system/bin/redsocks", "/system/bin/redsocksctls",
"/system/app/LenovoAppShop_K1_b219.apk",
"/system/app/LenovoBookmarkWidget-1.0.022.apk",
"/system/app/LenovoConfigFileHandler-1.0.007.apk",
"/system/app/LenovoSetupWizard-1.1.001.apk",
"/system/app/dxtg-lnv-u1_3.003.999.apk",
[B]"/system/app/Superuser.apk", "/system/bin/su", "/system/xbin/su",[/B]
"/system/recovery.img");
"Removing unneeded files..." ... no comment...
You may also want to remove the recovery and stay wit CWM. Will look into it when i find some free time. But can't test it myself right now, because I'm playing around with a custom rom and the firmware updates in the update could make things more complicated.
What kind of custom rom do you use? Aosp? Ics?

I believe he is writing specifically about OTA Root Keeper which purports to have a temp-unroot procedure before running an OTA update.

Its ok I had rootkeeper and forgot it had a temp unroot, just did a temp unroot, updated tpt and restored root, all working fine and root access is confirmed.

before I even knew it, I had updated the ota2 after rooting. had root for about 3 minutes. LOL. does anyone know how to restore this thing back to ota1 or even the original firmware? I have the ota update kit stored locally, so if I had any kind of pointer to the original rom, I could probably downgrade it. Hopefully.
Anyone knows when will be available this update to ROW version?

Get Asus to stop sending me the wrong update?

I have been getting this update for my TF101 every few days or so. It downloads an update, then when I click on install update it reboots, starts loading the update and fails halfway through the intall giving me the sad android with the triangle exclamation point. I read on another thread that you have to clear the cache in DMClient, which I do every time this happens. But why does it continue to send me this stupid update? When I followed the previous thread I mentioned, I was able to see that the update was actually meant for the prime, not the TF101. Just wish they would stop sending me an update that makes me get my hopes up for ICS.
Anybody else having this happen?

That's probably the way to go, but I've had no luck thus far. I'm on stock Rom with Netformer 1.6 kernel. I tried doing this with OTA Rootkeeper. Unrooted, installed update, got same error. Then rebooted and re-rooted with the OTA Rootkeeper app. Does this mean I need to revert back to original kernel? Everything has been pretty good on Netformer, and it's definitely more snappy than stock.

Which stock ROM are you on? You might be getting the OTAs if you aren't running the latest (8.6.5.21?). The custom kernel probably installed a kernel module that is preventing the update from flashing.
Can you grab the OTA? I'm curious what they are sending you. It will be in /cache/dlpkgfile- you can copy that someplace and upload it. I think these should do it, but PM if you need help with terminal commands.
In terminal, type:
cp /cache/dlpkgfile /Removable/MicroSD/
OR with adb:
adb pull /cache/dlpkgfile
Here's the zip. Maybe you can tell me what this update really is. I guess my current stock Rom version is 8.6.5.19. Sounds like the kernel is preventing me from updating. The real question is, do I want to install any of these updates from Asus? Any disadvantage that you know of?
That file is the US 8.6.5.21 OTA. I lost track of the all the root methods, but I thought that Nachoroot was working with .21. I've never used OTA rootkeeper, so I can't comment on if that will work.
It's kinda odd how you are getting it now? There is a rooted version of the stock rom you can flash via CWM so that you don't have to unroot. It will have the stock kernel and you will keep whatever bootloader you have now.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1409584
EDIT: doaist has posted CWM friendly versions of the OTAs as well- there are much smaller files since they patch the existing rom. Look in the development forum- The OTA came out around Christmas, so it will be after that.
Thanks for the info. I'll flash the updated rom and see how it goes.

You're running an image that has different hash values than Asus original image has... that is why Asus validation does not work. Hence, you should revert back to the original image Asus provides.
This answer have been given ALOT of times in other threads already.

I'm on STOCK rom and STOCK recovery... very very strange....
Someone can help me?
Thx!
So, when you typed this thread title in did the posts you saw regarding this exact issue not seem like something you should have read?......
really can't understand... someone else had the same problem? Can't find the other post, sorry.... where is it pls?
edit: founded thx
Hello,
I'm sorry, I don't find this thread. I really searched.
I'm in the same case than asder00.
My Transformer is rooted, B50, European, and actually 9.2.1.11 official build.
The only way to update HoneyComb -> ICS was to use the version posted by MrNago http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1514658<br />
Today, I tried to update to 9.2.1.17 build. I received this update, but when my tablet reboot to install it, a triangle appears at approximately 30%. Exactly the same thing than when I wanted to install ICS.
I tried to install official ROM stock ICS of Asus with CWM recovery. Doesn't work (Status 7). No error about the version. I took WW build.
Same with ROM Revolution HD.
But retried with MrNago ROM, It works.
I don't know what to do to recover working updates.
PS : I think to know about which thread you speak.
I have read it. I don't think our problem to asder00 and me (and many others) should be over there. In my case, this impossible installation didn't appear after ICS.
And, those who posted our problem didn't have solution.
PPS : Sorry for my poor english. I'm not a moron. English is not a language I use every day.
Go to this thread and download and flash the file .
Note When you have CWM you cant ota.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1551652
Yeah, that's what I've done.
This micro update has worked with this file.
That's right, CWM is installed.
It was not when I tried to upgrade to ICS.
And if this is really source of our problem, I don't know how to remove that.
I have seen a method which match with what I've alreay done (reboot in recovery, install ROM stock... /!\ doesn't worked).
I believe I'm condemned to upgrade with files found over the web.

What did you do to fix this problem (with stock recovery and stock rom)?
I'm having the same issue, red exclamation mark. I never rooted my device.
1. Root
2. Install CWM
3. Flash update through CWM
it's really not that hard.
OK, that's a way. But keep in mind there are customers without knowlegde of rooting and stuff... what about them? The update should work, right?

Then you talk to Asus about it, not here.
Here is a place where people come to find information and learn how to do things.
If you just want a magic one click fix, call Asus.
I was also in a similar situation as you. I went back to stock rom and stock recovery and noticed I wasn't getting the OTA update to 9.2.1.17. Guess what?
I rooted my TF with a root kit found on this website. It literally rooted my TF with a click of a button. It was so easy.
I then installed CWM with an app posted on this website. It was just an APP. All I had to do was run the app and it installed CWM. So frigin easy
Finally, I manually flashed the update through CWM, which was made possible because some nice dude on this website posted a CWM flashable zip for the 9.2.1.17 update.
This entire procedure took less than 30 minutes.

You're totally right about that. I'm just curious what the problem might be. Would be interesting to know.
I'm now going to use the CWM method you suggested.
Same thing.
I would like to know if someone knows why few peoples have this problem, and many others not.
Why, since ICS is came, auto updates doesn't work.
There are solutions, of course. Sometimes we can search 30 minutes, 1 hour, 2 hours, more. For some people, it's easier than for others.
And what we all are sure, if we call Asus, they don't tell us how to resolve that. They will tell us to send the tablet to them. It's not what we want.
So, if messages like that irritate you, I think you should drink a herb tea.
Or close your eyes, take a full breath, and read another thread.
Because there will be always messages like that.
I don't tell that to provoke you. I would like that you understand that when people have problems, they go where they think to find the best solutions.

[Q] help! no update from android 3.2

Can anyone help me please.
I bought a 2nd hand rooted a500.

Have you installed the incona tab update enhancement from the play store
Sent from my A500 using Tapatalk
Thanks for the reply, yes i had installed the update enhancement from play store.
I have now solved the problem so i thought i'd share what i found.
The problem I had:-
I was rooted, but wanted to go back to stock to try the stock OTA ICS. I flashed a stock 3.2 full package from vache's page. The one I went with was 7.006.01_com_gen1. Carried out successfully, however no updates available when doing the system update search. waited a week still nothing, even tried factory reset to clear everything out.
Solution:-
I got impatient so flashed the unstable 3.0.1 rom intending to root again.
before rooting i tried flashing other stock roms (no reason it shouldn't work i reasoned). Successfully flashed full package 4.010.38_com_gen1 (vache's page). tried OTA updates from there and it was successful!!
OTA'd to 7.006.01, then 7.014.01, then on to ICS
Conclusion:-
the difference appears to be the version of android 3.2, I can only assume that 7.006.03 isn't supported in the UK where as 7.006.01 is. If i'd flashed that one in the first place I assume the updates would have worked.
Hey, can you point me to the files and instructions on how to get this done? I rooted it to 7.006.05 long before using thor rom I believe. Not very familiar with the rooting game, but I'm still unable to get ICS update OTA.
FYI, Acer a500 8gb model US.

My understanding from reading around a few threads is that OTA tends not to work if you are rooted and/or running CWM. Not sure on process of un-rooting as i've not done it. But i'm guessing one solution would be flash a stock version of same rom, then do OTA updates.

just follow 2. and/or 3.
I want to keep root and go to ics. I know I need to install ics bootloader but have not found a solid thread yet, at least not one that I can flash. Anyone that can direct me to a proven method from 3.2 will be appreciated. I am rooted and gave custom recovery installed cwm.
