Final leak of gingerbread - is it true? - Milestone 2 General

rootzwiki.com/showthread.php?t=3406
It seems it's the final version, and as I understood, motorola will soon release a version like this or liker. But I have a question. I have motorola milestone 2 (A953) and the leak is for A956. If I flash my A953 with this A956 version, will i have problems related to network? And if I want, am I able to restore original sbf version of my A953?
Thanks!!

Network won't work. And downgrade is not guaranteed (40% chance you can get back by flashing a Stock SBF).

if you have problems with baseband (gsm) you can use this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1182050
I use this on 2.2.2 and 2.3.4 and works.

Sounds risky. I'll just wait for official Gingerbread update from Motorola.

Yeah, I'm afraid of that. I'll wait till the end of time when motofail will release the official version =p. Just for notice, google will soon release ice cream sandwich, and motofail still stuck on updating their mobiles to gb -.-

Upgrade 2.1 leak to 2.1 OTA

So I thought I read on here multiple times that it was impossible to upgrade the Eris from the 2.1 Leak to the 2.1 OTA. Just for the hell of it, I gave it a shot. To my amazement it worked. Did I misunderstand the forum or is this really not supposed to happen?
Edit: Grammar
Can you explain more clearly please? Ota from Verizon or?
If you are referring to the "so-called" Verizon OTA release candidate it is possible to update from the 2.1 leak to this version, it's just not possible to update to the 2.1 root which, I may be mistaken, at one point had been called OTA in a few places.
Well When the first 2.1 Leak came out I immediately upgraded to it.
It was this one
HTC 2.1 Leak Rom
Verizon test rom, REJECTED. Do not Install if you want root.
Rom: http://www.sendspace.com/file/frqze0
I downloaded it from the original post from the Taiwanese guy who posted it on here in the first place.
Then just today I thought why not give it a shot and install the newest one. Which was this one.
HTC 2.1 Release Candidate (AKA OTA) Leak Rom
Verizon test rom, possible OTA leak. Do not Install if you want root.
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=RHNAWUR0
Was this not supposed to be possible or not? I thought I read on here that once the Leaked 2.1 was installed, nothing else could be installed. That we were stuck with it.
Let me know if you need any more info.

Oh ok, I guess that's what I did then. I was just confused. This version seems to run A LOT smoother.
Thanks for the answer.
On the contrary, from all I've read, I was of the understanding that upgrading from 2.1 old leak to 2.1 new leak was not only possible, but recommended, if the few bugs in old 2.1 leak...bugged you. Did my upgrade a few days ago from leak old to leak new, and it I like it.
Thanks for all the hard work, leakers and devs!

This is good to know!!!
It depends on how verizon packages the update. If its OTA, without an RUU or PB00IMG.zip, chances will be small (unless they do a format, then complete install, as custom roms do.) OTA's are targetted from one platform to another.

Froyo ROM Confusion

Myself, I'm waiting for a rooted stock incremental or full ROM.
To clarify some confusion. This is what I've learned.
Ava 2.2 is a full ROM based on a leaked official update.
An early release (temporarily hosted by HTC later version than the ava leak) ota update has been released. It is of course not root safe and is incremental. You should be using 1.47 stock to flash it.

Ava is a pre-release, version 3.25. The real deal hasn't come out yet but will be version 3.26.

Is there an ETA for the official 2.3.4 release?

Having decided I'll stick with 2.3.3 for the time being since I don't feel the need to risk ruining my warranty with the leaked 2.3.4 version, does anyone have any info on a possible timescale for the official version of 2.3.4 to be released? Also, on the right hand side of the wikipedia entry for android, it say:
Latest stable release
Phones:
2.3.4 (Gingerbread) / 24 February 2011; 4 months ago[3]
suggesting it's official and has been since february? I thought it was only leaked in the last couple of weeks. I'm presumably misunderstanding something somewhere, lol
The 2.3.4 leaked update does reduce the Android OS a bit but in general not really solve the problem.
I would flash a custom ROM, you can always go back to stock and unroot if your really worried about risking your warranty.

There is no official ETA just rumours which state sometime this month and the 2.3.4 will be for the Nexus which gets all the updates first as it's a google branded phone.

Well, even if 2.3.4 becomes official sometime in the next month or so, that's not too long a wait for me. So Nexus gets priority, ok. And then they'll presumably make it an update for the SGS2 as well?
What about that wikipedia entry, they must have made an error with the last digit of 2.3.4.

i don't think you understood what he said: nexus already got the update, hence the february date. our phone runs a customised version (touchwiz launcher + custom samsung stuff) so we have to wait until samsung is ready to roll out their version of 2.3.4.
obviously these "leaks" are there so that more users can test the firmware. i'm guessing the official update is not far away.

How do I update to 2.3.5?

When I bought it used, it was running 2.3.4. I realized that 2.3.5 came out recently, and would like to update.
Supposedly, I should be able to get OTA updates, but the problem is that I don't have a data plan, so I would not be able to get the updates that way.
When I go to system updates, it tells me "your system is currently up to date," which is a lie. Is there another way to update? Would it require me to lose all of my apps/contacts?
As of right now, I'd like to run stock android, and not CM8.
2.3.5 is not currently available for the Nexus One. If you want 2.3.5: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Nexus_One:_Full_Update_Guide

As the poster above me stated, 2.3.5 was for the Nexus S 4G (Sprint). 2.3.4 is the latest official ROM for N1 so your phone is not a "liar."
You don't have to have a data plan to receive OTA updates. As long as you are connected via WIFI you can still receive new OTA's once they have been pushed.
Lastly, when you update via OTA, you do not lose any of your contacts or apps.
Hope this helps clear up the confusion.

There is a 2.3.5 branch for the N1 in the AOSP. Would be nice to see some completely stock builds, I think the closest is Mark Denver's ROM but he has added some of his own tweaks to it.
That's unfortunate.
I guess I'll keep 2.3.4 until ICS comes out. 2.3.4 still does everything I need.
why to update to 2.3.5. I think 2.3.4 is enough.

the only way to get 2.3.5 can be achieved by rooting and flashing custom recovery.
you can get everything u need in custom rom which will have tweaks( degree depending upon rom you want to use) lest u need to keep ota rom ..
Just wait, 2.3.5 is just incremental
why would you want a new update? 2.3.4 is good enough for a phone.
The major item in the 2.3.5 release was for Near Field Communications (NFC), which is not supported on the N1, so 2.3.5 is not really necessary.

Got my OTA this morning in South Africa. Android Ver 4.0.3
PMB, South Africa
I see my update is ready to download, ICS at last ....
And here it is in the UK... Downloading now. 199MB.
Interesting that it says it does NOT include Flash Player.
I wonder if that was the reason for the delay, so that it could be stripped out.
Yup, got it in Macedonia. Finaly

Which version is it?
Still the .021 build?

Yep.
Is it possible to obtain a "temporary root" under ICS on these tablets?
I don't want to move away from stock because of warranty issues but I really would like to be able to use Titanium to back up the apps. What I'm looking for is an equivalent to "Visionary" on the Froyo platforms.
