What do you look for in a rom? - Droid X General

Recently I began wondering what the community looks for most in a rom.
Whether it be many custom themes, battery life, or support.
What are the things you look for in a rom?

This is my opinion: (in order of importance)
Debloated-performance-stability-battery life-new/improved functionality-visual appeal

I don't use custom ROMs, but if I did, I'd look for the size of the user base before committing myself.

Custom ROM environment

How is the environment on the Fascinate? I've noticed leak based roms but are there any aosp builds like cyanogen?
Im currently on the Droid X but the encrypted bootloader hinders it. Is the bootloader opened fully on the Fascinate?
Thanks

I just came from the x, you wouldn't be disappointed

So what type of rom selection is there?
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Not much development until 2.2 hits. No functional aosp, most of if not all are just debloated stock roms.

So what's the hold up? Is there a security feature in place that prevents building or porting other 2.2/2.3 roms?
Also, wasn't there a port of gingerbread to galaxy s phones? What prevents this on the fascinate.

The Ril is holding us back which is the thing that allows us to call, text, ect. and Samsung gave us a crap code which essentially didn't work I think, but our devs got it working.

OK good to know.
Sounds like more hope than the encrypted bootloader on the X.

Any good roms for this phone?

My girlfriend has this phone and i have it rooted with clockwork on it but what i am looking for next is a good rom.

Seriously? Just search a little bit.

There's only a handful of rom's available for the aria. Just look around the development forum. We've got roms based on android 2.1-2.3.3.

Tweaked Stock Rom

I've been looking through roms and I'm not seeing it. Could anyone tell me if there's a rom that is based on the latest ota, stock sense, that has been tweaked and optimized? An added bonus if it had dt a2sd baked in as well.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Look at Calkulin's. Unthemed and tweaked and optimized like none other.

Downloading now. The rosie and lockscreen aren't stock but the rest is perfect. Thanks.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
No problem. Always forget about the Rosie, as I always use a different launcher haha. I was going to use that ROM as a base for a Senseless ROM, but I suck at making scripts. Flashing a custom kernel with that?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
Not sure yet. I tried savaged a while back and my battery drained like crazy. I really wanted to get away from stock but aside from Konis Elite every rom I run has had some issue that bugged me. Is there any other kernel that you'd recommend?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
GoldenMonkey and Freedom are the only GingerSense kernels I know of. I use Freedom, you would need to use the Universal kernel with it

@wgallt Sent you a PM with a good ROM for your interests. I'd just put it here but I can't post links.. Enjoy!
@swagstr can you pm that same rom to me please?

Tablet UI.

Which ROM has the best Tablet UI?
Sent from my PG86100 using xda app-developers app
Without a doubt, AOKP.
Might as well asked what's the best ROM... nobody can tell YOU what the best rom is. You're just gunna get a bag of opinions. Just go flash one please.

I don't want to know the best one. Just the one with the most tablet UI features.

Go to the Android Development forum and see for yourself...

AOKP always has some nice features. Most of them get ported to Codename Android (CNA).
I don't know what CM offers for tablet mode.
ParanoidAndroid has some wonderful settings that let you decide how each app behaves. I like it a lot, but I couldn't find the ability to add additional software buttons, Linario combines AOKP and Paranoid, but I just didn't like it as much as CNA.
I keep meaning to try others but that's all I've really had time for at the moment...

I do flash a custom ROM because

I'm really curious about the reasons for flashing a cell-phone.
Recently a lot of people are flocking to xda with clearly no basic understanding about flashing in general.
Is it the coolness factor? Is it the "control-back"-thing? Flashaholics by any change?
Because Samsung wont give us 4.2.1 that's why CM10.1
Because even without any and all programing knowledge i can learn how my phone works, and follow the process of adapting a rom to a phone, and in the worst case fix it myself. Because with a custom rom, you always know what and why is not working (assuming you know how to use a search button). Because of the ∞ options (was waiting for a chance to use this symbol). Personalized quick settings. Lockscreen weather. Undervolting. Backups (TB/CWM). better keyboard when longpressing "a". SMS popups. Designs. No bloatware. And last but not least the ability to laugh at damnsung. They want me to buy a new phone because my phone is supposed to be on ics and long since outdated, and here i am, running 4.2.1...
I get laughed at when i mention my flashing and phone-nerdness in general, so not the coolnessfactor.
What's a custom ROM?
I already did it on my Galaxy 3 and I want to get the best out of my phone.
