Currently the only internets I have is from tethering my nexus. I use native wireless tethering and leave my phone plugged in on the night stand. Ill let a few torrents go overnight, but even though my phone is plugged in I have a drain on the battery. Last night I plugged in at approx 90% when I woke for work I had 8% remaining. Fortunate for me I have a charger at work as well. But honestly how can this phone use that much power to drain while charging. I used to do this all the time on my old evo it wasn't the fastest charge but I always woke up to a full battery.
I guess my question is. Is this the norm? Something I have to live with. Or should I visit the sprint store?

The nexus s charges slower than the EVO. By using the hotspot and especially torrenting(against tos btw) uses alot of power. is this on 3g or 4g? On 4g the battery drain would be even worse.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
Its only 3g. As far as the tos issue until sprint slaps my wrist no harm no foul in my opinion. I'm not using it to pirate anything so whatever...

You need a 1000mAh charger to keep up with the power drain. USB is not high enough voltage. It will drain even though it's charging.

It has nothing to do with pirating. It is about bandwidth and usage. Just giving you a heads up because sprint can cancel you as a customer.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
As long as he's keeping his *non-pirating torrent* usage, and all data usage in general within..say...a 5GB limit per month, i really don't have any qualms per se.
I see 5GB as fair-use enough..
I agree 5gb is fair. I wasn't playing internet police. Just giving a fellow member a heads up.

This belongs in question and answers section.
You might be able to fix this by reconditioning your battery, otherwise your battery is just getting old
It could not be getting old I just got it last month
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA Premium App
Thats how it is.
cm7 and miui have same problems, and its to save you from over charging, and thats some phones start heating up too much.
Don't worry about it, its for your own phones life.
Ok that's good to know and my phone charge extremely slow and sometime not at all but then I reboot and my battery life goes way up wat is that about
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA Premium App
Thats because your phone is mis-reading your battery's charges.
a Re-condition would help phone re-read it more accurately, but idk how you'd do that since to re condition you have to charge till' 100% lol.
Will they change rom to make it 100 cuz I don't want to go back to 2.2 rom cm7 is to good

the CM7 your using is not OFFICIAL, so the problems your facing is up to the developer to solve, not the CM team because as far as i know, they haven't even supported CM7 for us fully yet.
it's just how cm7 is reading the battery. on one revision i would get a max of 95% then 97% on another. just recondition the battery after its been plugged in for while after hitting the 97%. worst case is you have to recondition your batter again after you flash another rom or it gets fixed.
Do you know what cm7 version they've used as a base for the vibrant version? The Nexus S does this by default, to protect the battery as others have mentioned.

YOU need to re-condition, YOU can fix it.
the people on MIUI or CM7 can't.
As stated its a known thing.
I used my Samsung Focus to charge a battery to 100 percent put it in my phone and it discharged to 95% then back up 97%. So the phone isnt charging the phone up all the way as it is. This is also good for the life of the battery and the battery will last longer. Also it gives and accurate reading. Sometimes with phones if it says 100 percent it is discharging thus you actually only have <95%.
I fixed the problem I just switched to best rom(trigger) then reconditioned and it charges perfect thanks for the help

This is by design and should occur on all Roms. Below is a link to a good Phandroid article tiled "Your Smartphone's Battery Gauge is Lying to You and its not Such a Bad Thing". It really does an excellent job with a fair amount of data explaining why your battery will only charge to 95 - 97%.
It boils down to three options:
The phone manufacturers essentially have three choices:
1. Use older charging styles which actually maintain a full battery, thereby decreasing its eventual life
2. Use new charging methods and have an accurate battery gauge
3. Use new charging methods and have the inaccurate battery gauge

RECONDITION.
I told you before everytime you flash a different rom, the battery is going to be different, so reconditioning is going to help you make it more accurate reading. brah.

You may need to do it a few times.
But since you are on a 2.2.1 rom... no need to worry, when it tells you its at 97% it's actually at 100, soon when you don't notice going from 1% to 2% will take more than regular time, it'll make up for the 3% somewhere along the lines
Ok ill let u know the results of this second try and do I have to recharge when phone off

So I remember reading somewhere that if your battery starts to lose charge fast do to having it for a long time, that you can take it to a Verizon store and get a free battery and this can only be done twice for the life of your phone. Is this true.? I'm concerned because I find myself charging my phone everyday so I'm gunna need the extra. And please don't respond with battery saving techniques lol. Thank you

Haha...most people are lucky to only have to charge it once a day. Its a smartphone and being that android phones are always syncing something somewhere on the phone, you're not going to have superb battery life. Ive got an LG Dare ill sell you though. Gets great battery life XD

Hello
My friend have a Nexus S (9020A) the problem is when the battery dies it's impossible to charge the phone, it won't turn on! I have tried with a lot of batteries now and it kills all of them! it works like normal when you don't let the battery die completely but it should not do this anyway, what is wrong?
I think I know what your talking about.
The phone consumes more power than it receives when its using data. Do if your at 5% and charging, but also using the internet. You will last for mere minutes.
Best thing to do is to simply let it charge and not touch it when its doing so. You can still hotspot, text talk. But streaming music, data apps (like tapatalk or skype) and web browser WILL KILL YOUR BATTERY WHILE YOU CHARGE.
But if your saying it won't charge. Sorry. No idea

no, the phone kills the batteries, I would have test the batteries on other phone if I had, but atm I just have the Nexus S, it won't let me charge the batteries when they are dead.. if there is 1% left I can charge but when it dies it's dead forever... there must be something wrong with the phone, right?

don't work.. when battery have some % left the phone works like normal... but if I let it die, then it's dead.. I can't even turn on the phone, it's like there is no battery inserted.
The phone should shut down automatically when the voltage reaches a certain threshold. Is the phone not doing this? These batteries are not meant to drop below a certain voltage and doing so could damage them.

This is so insanely inaccurate. Using the hotspot is one of the most battery intensive operations the phone can carry out. Streaming music, Skype, and browsing don't even hold a candle to it. The only thing that comes close would be navigation (and that can be even worse sometimes), followed by talking on the phone by a pretty decent, but not massive margin. It also depends on the charger. Where do you get your information?
Sent from my PG41200 using Tapatalk
if the phone is doing the same with all type of ROMS, then it may be hardware related issue.
I have been running various Roms since the start but never faced this issue. A lot of times battery has drained fully. With some of the new roms that are there my phone lasts more than a day with Data on Roaming full time.
I know most phone batteries will not be chargeable if you deplete them completely. Usually this happens by throwin it in the drawer and not using it for a long time but ive never heard of it happening just by using the phone. Id say its definitely a hardware issue

It's strange that yours charges so fast? Most of the stuff I've read so far for charging with the stock N3 wall charger is that they're charging at around 35%/hr
How's yours doing so fast??

Hello!
I have an AT&T Note 3 running on root and I've noticed that my Lightflow & Swapps app keeps automatically force closing at random times in the day.... this never happened before until I decided to root my phone, and even then, in the beginning everything was running smoothly. Any idea of what could be causing this? I am using the NOVA launcher but I wouldn't see why that would cause an issue... and on Kitkat 4.4, I'd appreciate anyone's input!

From what I do, it actually does last me a while but I do have to charge it when I am at work. From 9 to about 3:30p.m I have to charge it because it's at 10% due to me watching Netflixs all through my work shift, including lunch, while also texting back and forth whenever I need to. My shift ends at 5:30, so by then it's at 100% because I started charging it around 3:30p.m. On a day like the weekend, I hardly use my phone at all since I have my PC so my batter life lasts a really long time without me having to charge it by the end of the day and even then I have about 60%. On a day where I am up and about, my batter lasts me till about 40% all day until I have to charge it. I hope that makes any sense. I don't pay much attention to my battery life since all I use my phone for is netflixs while I am at work and SOMETIMES some gaming, but not all the time. I also hardly call or text anyone.
