Governor setting recommendations. - Nexus S General

Besides smartass governor what is the next best setting to use?
This is with GPA17 and Pete's modified kernel.
using Tapatalk.

If you don't mind random wakeup lag I'd stay with smartass, ofc I can't tell you how BuglessPete did optimize his combo (ROM/kernel) in regards to a certain governor setting. My #1 is ondemand, #2 smartass.

I've been underclocking and undervolting and getting amazing battery using either ondemand or interactive, not sure what the difference between the govereners is, seems to me that clock speed and voltage seem to have the biggest effect on battery life, and performance wise I can't tell a difference between the different governers

Smart ass is good when you put your phone a lot of time in stand by mode,
Ondemand is the best

Thats what I'm using now. Thanks for the replies.

I'm assuming this all holds true for when using SetCPU as well? I have it set to max 800mhz, min 100mhz and a custom profile for "screen off" at max 400mhz and min 100mhz, all "on demand". I'm on stock rooted ROM GRJ90, kernel is by the pete alfonso dude...

smartass lowers the cpu when the screen is off. if you're always turning the screen off/on, this can slow down the phone/cause instability.
ondemand is very stable for me

CPU: 800mhz. Governor: Smartass. Homescreen scrolling: unbearably slow.

Anyone know why?
Oxygen 2.2.2, Smartass Governor, underclocked to 800mhz.
I've seen many people state that there was no appreciable difference from 1000-800 mhz.
Thanks.

use the ondemand governor. smartass on the ns sucks.

Smartass is probably not ramping up the speed as moving the home screens is not taxing on the cpu. Thus your phone is likely running at your min CPU speed. Try setting a different governor or raising the min CPU speed.

What kernel do you use? Try netarchys for stock. Then change to smartass with 200 min 800 max mhz.

Netarchy.
I changed it back to On Demand, 100mhz/800mhz. Problem solved.

Then it must be something with the oxygen ROM because I'm on CM7 and it doesn't make any difference smartass or on demand.

I just had another person in another thread swear that smartass was the best on Oxygen for battery life and performance. I'm confused now...
To be fair, I've experimented with interactive, on demand and smartass all at 800mhz and not noticed any difference in either performance nor battery life.

Why would my NS4G running Oxygen and yours running the same rom and settings behave differently?

General rule of thumb (for my phone anyway):
1200MHz, ondemand governor. Ondemand works the best on the NS :O

How's that on battery though?
After running at 800MHz, I really haven't noticed an appreciable decline in performance, but I have noticed decreased battery consumption.

Not all hardware is equal. My CPU may be able to run lower voltages than yours can. Your CPU may OC higher than mine etc. There could be a setting in a rom or kernel that your phone runs fine, but may cause mine to reboot.

Show off your OC and UV settings here.

Every TF is different. Someone has reported being able to unvervolt by -250 or more. I don't know how the hell he did it. Anyway, I thought I'd start this thread to let people show off their OC and UV settings. I thought I could get a feel on what the stable limits are.
Remember, guys, it's only considered stable if the camera doesn't freeze. I don't care how much stress test you do. If your camera doesn't work, then it's not stable.
The 2 lowest clock settings there are, it's like 250 and 320 mhz or something I can run a 250 undervolt. This is extremely useful because I run on interactive and my tablet runs on almost no battery at all while on standby.
As for my underclocks up from that to about 1590s(My tablet can't handle 1600s) I have a steady 65 undervolt for all frequencies. I found battery life to be amazing...

Hi there! What are you using to undervolt and/or overclock? I'm using CPU Master Free to overclock, but it doesn't have any undervolting options.
EDIT: also, which kernel are you using that supports Undervolting and Overclock?
Prime kernel doesnt seem to support uV at the moment
Blades does
Clemsyn does
Dont think netformer does
Settings im still playing and waiting for uV on prime kernel as ive found it the most stable at the moment will post back later

Does your camera work when you set everything to -65? My camera will not work if I unvervolt 608 or 456 mhz.

NoFrills CPU and Arc S

Hi,
I am currently using an Arc S with DoomKernel 18 (1.6ghz) + Arconium 7.0 on .62.
I've used NoFrills CPU to set max at 1.6ghz and min at 0.3ghz but when I used the app CPU Spy I see the following: 1ghz 15%, 249mhz 47%, Deep Sleep 37%.
How come my arc s is never running at 1.6ghz? Is this because it never saw the need to and could perform at 1ghz or is it because it is clocked in some way?
Usually it depends on the governor you are using.
After you set the processor speed, try to reset the timer in the CPU Spy, which might help.

Is there a governor you recommend? I am currently using SmartsassV2 but it was initially set on interactive I think

[POLL][ARC/ ARC S] Which governor do you use?

This is just to help out those who are wondering what the majority of other xda members are using.
SmartassV2
Ondemand
conservative
Are so far peoples favorite governors
smartassV2 on Doomkernel for GB, works beautifully with sio scheduler, a great combination for our Arcs

Since ICS, Sony has implemented Interactive in stock kernel, so I use that and it seems to be helping a lot overally.
iR¡[email protected]!* via Tapatalk 2
doomkernel + smartassV2 + noop for stock GB rom.
It's the best. no doubt about that.
No option for stock?
I mean surely that would be the most common answer, surely?
DooMKernel v4 ICS, SmartAssV2, SIO. Works like a charm.
Normally interactiveX, but on ICS it doesn't go over 1017MHz
Using ondemand atm untill that bug is fixed

I noticed that as well when I used CPU Spy so now I just OC with smartassv2 !
Atm I'm using brazilianwax, very smooth and fast andit doesn't stay at one of the highest frequencies like lagfree.
But lagfree is also nice
EDIT:
Using lagfree now.
I have the smallest lags with that governor. Well, performance has even less but that can't be a daily driver

ondemand here.
Can someone please explain the differences between the i/o choices. What do they do.
What settings are best for keeping good battery life and performance.
I'm on I'm on night kernel with the option to oc to 1.8ghz

Tasker governor question.

Is it ok for me to have a task in Tasker that changes the governor everytime the phone sleeps and wakes? Is that harmful to my device?
not sure about if it's dangerous or not but I am curious a to why you would want to... sleep is sleep not much of anything happening to warrant a change

Well, I've found that my battery lasts a lot longer when the powersave governor is on, even while in sleep. When the screen is on I have it change to ondemand so i get a nice smooth UI. When in sleep with ondemand on, it drains faster than when I have powersave on and have it clocked to 288000 MHz.

Lol. My bad, was just copying what Trickster Mod said.. :/ I have the min at 288 MHz so when power save is on it underclocks to that.
I just don't want to screw up the hardware by jumping back and forth between ondemand and powersave.
