I recently bought an AT&T Atrix 4G from a person. It is already updated to the latest software
-------------------Current State---------------------
Android Version: 2.3.4
System Version: 4.5.91.MB860.ATT.en.US
Baseband Version: N_01.77.30P
Build Number: 4.5.91
-----------------------------------------------------
I read at a few thread here that we should not update Atrix via the over the air (OTA) update. Now I am not sure how this particular phone was updates and I have no way to find out.
Any of you people have an idea?
I am not looking to install any fancy ROMs at the moment, may be in future.
All I want to do right now is fix the battery issues. Right now my battery percent never shows in increments of 1%. My battery only jumps in increments of 10%... that is 90%..80%...60%...etc.
In order for me to root the phone, I read that it is good to know the way the phone was updated to 2.3.4
Thanks all.
This looks like the official Gingerbread ROM from Motorola that you would get via OTA or their updater from the website. The battery only showing progress in 10% increments is a "feature" of that, so it's not broken per se.
I need to get root on this phone.
Is this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1138204 the advisable way to root a phone with OTA update?

I've been getting a notification about a security update on my magic. It claims to have already downloaded it (4.6mb), and is asking to install and reboot.
Does anyone know any details about the update? Version numbers, etc? What it changes?
Forgot to mention my current versions:
baseband - 62.50s.20.17u_2.22.19.26I
Kernel - 2.6.27-00392-g8312baf [email protected] #72
Build - crb17
I never received such notification. When I go to System Update, it says that my phone is already up to date. It got exactly the same version as yours.
Me neither - all versions the same. :-o
all Magics with CRB17 software will soon receive an over the air
(OTA) software update approximately 4.5 MB in size
This is a security patch, and nothing to worry about it, everyone with the affected software should get it in the next week.
I'm more worried about it blocking any future hacked firmwares being installed - eg the new rooted firmware 6.0
Upgrade in Vodafone ES network
I have just updated the firmware of my magic. It had CRB17. After the upgrade the new software versions are:
CRB43
62.50S.20.17U_2.22.19.26I
2.6.27-00393-g6607056
bye
i have received today the same notification in my htc (vodafone spain). But, what about the root??
@IsAhT sorry but I did not have it rooted before the update, so I cannot tell you the effects of this upgrade over a rooted terminal.
got the same thing right now...i just updated it..
i guess .......... if it is just a update to the firmware system should not effect the rooting.
How does the update process work? I'm on a rooted Vodafone UK Magic, but using the Orange mobile network. I've installed Haykuro's SPL, and About phone -> System updates says it's up to date, but the build is CRB17.
Maybe I should give his 6.0r1 ROM a try...
well i am on voda uk and i am not getting any updating because im using the 6.0 sapphire rom were the system update is disable obviously.
that you are on orange and still running CRB17 should be able to get the update. i think they roll the update gradually like TMOBILE done with the G1 to upgrade to cupcake 1.5,they started with 10% then 20% and so on of the G1 population till they hit 100%.
so after the rooting process installing haykuro's SPL, whats the 'best' rom to choose and where can i get it?.
im on CRB17 as well after trying to get root, which i dont think worked. Is there pre-rooted rom floating about?
im on vodafone UK magic as well
hi all,
I wanted to confirm a few things...
I am rooted and running DC 2.08 with a2sd
in settings > about phone > system updates
what can I update?? There are 4 choices to update. I dont want to create issues on my phone.
Can I update these?
1. Firmware update .. yes or no?
2. Update Profile... i think i can update this.
3. Update PRL... I know i can update this
4. HTC software update... i am guessing NO on this.
Next, i am still on the stock Radio for Hero/cdma/sprint/usa/texas
baseband version: 1.04.01.09.21
PRI version: 1.70_003
Kernel version: 2.6.29-d30020a8
Should I update my radio??? i have been very very hesitant to do this because of past issues with CDMA/Radio. Currently i really dont have any issues. Just low signals. I want to see if it can improve my signal and data connections and battery life.
thanks

You can update all 4. HTC will tell you there's no updates available. I'm assuming that's an app that will be useful at a future date. Updating profile/prl is no big deal. Update firmware will upgrade your ROM if firmware exists. I'd avoid that one. I used it on my wife's hero for the 1.56 update, but the 2.1 updates will be OTW, not OTA anyhow.
Updating a radio has risks, but I've done it. There are several out there, and flipz is the man when it comes to that. Here is a how-to and he also has links to about four different radios, including the original in case you want to go back:

I just recently picked up a dell streak. It's brand new with what I'm guessing it the latest shipped rom which is build number 15274 running android version 2.2.2
All I see is custom roms and reflashing back to other roms to root....blah blah blah...is there a way to just root my current rom and not have to flash a completely new one? I'm all for supporting the community, I'd just like to keep this as device as clean as possible and remove all the bloatware.

Download SuperOneClick v1.5.5 and root away. Dont forget to put your phone into USB debugging mode before rooting, its very important that you do that. Or just follow the steps in this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=925853 good luck.
Wow thanks, I totally skipped over that post!!! I guess from what I was reading I was expecting the whole process to be a lot more complicated.
Thanks a ton!
Anytime.

How come Dell don't push out the 2.2.2 version OTA to their customers?
I check for updates every day, but have just once received any. (2.2)
Their way of saying; "we just don't give a f*ck about our customers"?
You should have gotten that update weeks ago. It's been OTA for probably about a month now. And I don't know how much you've read, but a lot of what happened with not updating from 1.6 was probably AT&T's fault because they wouldn't okay the build (speculated). Dell had the source up for 2.2 for a long time, if I remember correctly.
I'm on unlocked stock EU ROM since day one. Just to clarify.
Do you mean the 2.2.2 was shipped OTA, for EU users too?
Ohhh. Didn't notice you were on EU. I don't know if Dell released one for EU yet (probably hasn't since you don't have the option to OTA). Just remember that it's not just the phone maker responsible for updates, the carrier has some say in it, too. Are you still on 1.6? Because you could always try out DJ Steve's ROM if you wanted to try something different.
No, the one OTA update I received, was the 1.6 --> 2.2 on last October.
Since then - nothing. I guess it's only in America people get the 2.2.2.
Thanx for taking time to reply.
No problem, haha. I hope you get it soon
I really want the update to, I'm in the Uk and I'm still on 2.2, I would do it myself but its just to complicated and don't wanna mess up my phone. Has anyone in the Uk got the 2.2.2 upgrade? And to be honest I really wont the 2.3 upgrade, but seeing as we still don't have the 2.2.2 upgrade, I think we'll be waiting a long time :'(
2.2.2?
If someone updated from 1.6, to the "non official" 2.2, is there any difference between it and 2.2.2?
2.2.2 is supposedly immune to the malware loaded from the 50 or so infested apps that Google removed recently from the market.
Hi,
a few weeks ago I updated my stock german Xoom so the following:
Model Number: XZ601
Android Version: 3.0.1
Firmware: GAS_EMEA_USAEVRSTUTMDE_P007
Baseband Version: N_01.83.21P
Baseband Configuration Version: UCAEVEUB1B8EU02D.0R
Kernel Version: 2.6.36.3 [email protected] #1
Build Number: H.6.1-38-5
I think this was not really software update but I did this to root the thing. Now, when I click System Upgrade, the device tells me it was up to date. Is this update functionality gone since I rooted the tablet or is Motorola still not providing Android 3.1 in EMEA?
Is there a working manual update to german 3.1 out by now? I think last time I checked there was none. Can someone bring me up to speed plz?
cheers
mathiase
My stock german xoom is not getting update either when i check for update. and its absolutely stock, i did not root it or do anything to it.
i guess 3.1 did not land in EMEA yet...at least not in Germany...
Hi,
okay that means it does not necessarily have to do with my rooted version. But the question remains: will I get the update through the usual channel with the rooted device?
Motorola is really straining me here ... What about manual updates? Is there something out for german devices by now?
cheers
mathiase
I hadn't heard of any updates going out to anyone other than japan/china/australia?
Yes, this has probably been gone over ad nauseum throughout the site. Due to time constraints I cannot dig through the forums as much as I'd like, so I'm simply going to ask.
Phone: Samsung Note III (SM-N900V)
Carrier: Verizon Wireless
OS Version: 4.4.2
Baseband Version: N900VVRUCNC4
Kernal Version: 3.4.0
Build Number: KOT49H.N900VVRUCNC4
Hardware Version: N900V.07
It was purchased November 2013 with OS 4.3. Over the summer I accepted the OTA update to 4.4.2. My phone went to hell. Battery gets chewed through like a woodchipper, phone is horribly laggy, antenna connection is always 1-2 bars under where it was prior to update (and doesn't get reception in areas it did before), changes to the UI are less than desirable, etc.
The phone was never rooted, as this was the first phone I've ever had that worked well enough on stock software that I skipped it.
After giving it a few months on the update and trying changes/tweaks within the updated stock software to fix the issues the update caused, I'm at the end of my patience. Contacting support at both Verizon and Samsung was pointless, with one blaming the other for the problems.
What I'd love is to take the OS back to 4.3 and leave it, but in lieu of that I want to root the hell out of it and put a build on without these issues and a better antenna software. I'd prefer not to void the KNOX, but at this point I'd microwave it if it'd help.
I have no backups or root access from before the update to base a root on. I tried towelroot; install button doesn't work and I understand the maker Geohot works for Google now. I started to play with Odin, however the install seems to have an oddly high amount of other software it wants to install, and even after declining those it doesn't want to install (tried 3.09 and 3.10, I'm using Windows 7 w/latest SP and updates). Also, it drives my AV software crazy, so even turning that off and working with it didn't get me very far.
So, at this point, I'm open to most anything to get this crap off my phone, and my only requirement is that I don't brick it.
Options?
Thanks in advance for any help.

This is the best breakdown of what you need to do. Click here, scroll till you see the blue outline for NC4 OTA.
Be sure to hit "thanks" on @az_biker link for this tutorial!
Unfortunately this won't work, I've already tried. When running the towelroot installer the Install button is not clickable. The other buttons function normally.
Op did you ever hey the note rooted....did you get the towel root to work

No to both, unfortunately.
I've had no issues with towelroot. But for giggles make sure you have install from unknown source checked, and then unlock your developer options and make sure USB debug is enabled, then give it another shot.

did you take a ota
I have not, since the leaked NC2 firmware was leaked out. However on my s4 I just used towelroot with the latest NC5 firmware, and it worked flawlessly.
