a few weeks ago I updated my stock german Xoom so the following:

I think this was not really software update but I did this to root the thing. Now, when I click System Upgrade, the device tells me it was up to date. Is this update functionality gone since I rooted the tablet or is Motorola still not providing Android 3.1 in EMEA?
Is there a working manual update to german 3.1 out by now? I think last time I checked there was none. Can someone bring me up to speed plz?

My stock german xoom is not getting update either when i check for update. and its absolutely stock, i did not root it or do anything to it.
i guess 3.1 did not land in EMEA yet...at least not in Germany...

okay that means it does not necessarily have to do with my rooted version. But the question remains: will I get the update through the usual channel with the rooted device?
Motorola is really straining me here ... What about manual updates? Is there something out for german devices by now?

Hello everybody,
I have a g1 that I got in france. The annoying thing is there has been no real news of the cupcake update yet.
I was wondering if it would be an issue if I go ahead and use the OTA US or UK upgrade available here. The french version of G1 does not have gtalk and is a different from the other G1's (US or UK ones).
If I upgrade to either one, will I get those features?

About 5 weeks ago my Hero (unbranded and unlocked!) got an OTA update for 2.1. Then i had a KPN sim. After that update i switched network to T-mobile. I wonder if i have the full 2.1 update now looking at the information:
Firmware: 2.1-update1
Kernel: 2.6.29-063c4d24
Build: 3.32.405.1 cl 191507
Software: 3.32.405.1
When I check with system-software updates the phone repiels with no updates available.
If i don't have the full 2.1 update how can I get it? Or, what can i do to install a custom 2.2 ROM with the actual firmware on the phone?

Yes, you do. it says 2.1, that's a big hint.
I thought 2.1 has a two stage update. Because it says 2.1-update1 i assumed that i only had the first stage.
Am i wrong?

no you're not wrong you just misunderstood.
two-part update..
part one - boot rom update FW remains at 1.5
part two - update to FW 2.1
update-1 is just the revision number/version.

This may be a stupid question, but what is the different between the JI6 update and the 2.1 update1?
I just got a replacement phone from T-Mob and it claims to have firmware version 2.1 update1 but the baseband version is JFD.
Or maybe I'm trying to understand what things are in baseband vs. what is in firmware. I assume one difference is that its easy to change the firmware, but that does not help me much.

JI6 is latest and 2.1 update 1 is the old version
I really don't know if there was a pre release version 2.1 (without update 1)...
as far as i know, the very first vibrant came with 2.1 update 1 (or JFD), and that's what you have now.
You should get this updated to JI6...

There are no stupid questions, only stupid answers....
Eclair 2.1 update1 is the stock ROM that comes pre-installed on the Vibrant.
JFD is the launch version of that firmware.
The newest revision of the Eclair 2.1 update1 is JI6 which, I'm sure you've seen a thread or two about, attempts to fix many of the issues users were having with GPS/Sync/etc. If you realllllly wanted to simplify it, and I know this is completely wrong but follow me here, you have Eclair 2.1 update1(JFD). JI6 would essentially be Eclair 2.1 update1(JI6).
Since you've got a vanilla Vibrant, I'd suggest you charge up your phone and head over to the Kies Mini page to grab the JI6 update. Of course you could also wait for the OTA (over the air) update if you felt like it.

i have used the guide here in this forum after creating a Gold Card
i have already did that to get the 1.83.415.4 update for my phone to be able to use the Arabic official keyboard in this newest update
or at least root my phone and get better custom stable software
i have checked the software update after downgrading but it still saying my phone software is up to date!!!!!!

i need your help getting the answers for the following:
1- Does my phone became unbranded now after downgrading? i did not saw the usual vodafone logo when starting m phone
2- is there is anyway to force my phone to update the new official software after downgrading?
3- if i can not force it to update ..what i should do to root my phone and which the most safer way to do that (please refer me to step by step guide and a working links to the required tools)
4- what's the most stable software which contains Arabic support and how i can install it in step by step guide..

1. Yes its unbranded.
2. You can update officially by downloading an ruu but don't. Best to get radio s-off.
3. Search the development section. You want to perm root and s-off.
4. Leedroid arabic edition.

Well, in another forum (Arabic one) they just adviced me to download the official new rom 1.8xxxx on my pc (they provided me with the links)
then to connect my phne to my pc and then start the installing through my pc
No S-Off needed... No Rooting needed
and guess what... it's working like charm now

Got OTA system updates on my 2 VZW G2's this am. My G2's are just 3 days old, so I don't know if this is an old update or not.

Sorry for the post - after some research, it looks like an old, catch-up update.
Weird that it took days to get to my device.
