Setcpu is pretty good if you're not using a rom with it built in (such as CM7)

First and foremost if your flashing anything always make a nandroid, you can never go wrong in that department. Wipe cache/dalvik 2x each (preferably with Amon_RA), Flash kernel, reboot... Rinse and repeat every time.

How should I go abount intalling intellikernel on cm7rc3 . I am a noob and do not really understand the importance of having a seperate kernel (incredikernel is supposed to be superior than the default CM7) .. would I have to do some tweaks after I flash this?
Do I need to wipe anything before I flahs this or any new kernel? is it stable?

That is for the Droid Incredible.
That is why it will not work on our phone.
You can only flash 3rd party kernels related to your phone, and your skin design. meaning you cannot flash an AOSP kernel for Sense ROM, nor a DInc kernel to a OG Droid.
But I am running CM7 RC3 ... which is AOSP.... I am a little confused.

But the Kernel you are looking at is for the Droid Incredible, not for the HTC Glacier. They are two different phones, with two different hardware packages. You must use AOSP kernels for the HTC Glacier.
Could you suggest one that you really like? and do I have to wipe anything before I flash any kernel?

Personally i suggest running the stock kernel that came with your ROM. And i will only use the kernel that comes with the ROM. The developers have built the ROM to run around that kernel. So it should work the best. I know Faux123 has built some top notch kernels....but i cannot speak first hand.

scroll down until you get to cm7 kernels and download the latest grandkin kernel! instructions are on the page =)
I use fauxs oc/uv just cause he's awesome and you can oc it to 1.8 ghz but you have to be careful when overclocking I'd suggest setting up the governers and profiles in setcpu after flashing the kernel. But no you don't need to wipe anything just boot into recovery and install

Hey y'all, I have CM7 on my Evo and tried to flash incredikernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=848453 using clockwordmod rom manager. Everything seemed to go fine but now it will not get past the white htc evo 4g boot screen. How shall I proceed? I was going to just reflash CM7 but wanted to see what the 'correct' thing to do is, help please!
SOLVED, I definitely learned something new today. Kernels are phone specific haha!
I understand the newer nightlies are using the new kernel and need an update u-boot? If I flash within ROM manager will this be done automatically, or would I need to do that and the kernel flash manually? Been using 7.03 for a while but I would like to try the new stuff with the sleep fix if it's not overly complicated.
Also, if I go back to 7.03 can I just restore a backup in CWM or is there more to it since I've moved to a whole new kernel?

I am under the impression that nightlies beginning with 86 are including the new u-boot by default.

I am very interested in responses to this too--as I am running cm7.0.3, and would like to try the nightly route. what is the best way to move over to nightlys?
I believe just flash them. It worked for me and I jumped from 7.0.0 to 87!
Just went from 7.0.3 to 87 myself.
This is correct. Don't need to flash u-boot for n86 and on. Just flash the nightly itself, then the 5/23 OC kernel if you want to overclock.

You can just flash the latest nightly right over cm7.0.3, followed by the 5/23 OC kernel if you want to overclock. Did exactly that just today without any problems, and everything is now working wonderfully.
I wiped cache and dalvik cache before flashing, as I always do. Some say this isn't needed, but I always do it anyway. Only takes a few seconds and can't hurt anything.

One more quick question- Do I need to flash gapps again along with the nightly and OC kernel?
Thanks!

hi guys,i just got my nexus 4 and rooted it and have installed pac version 22.0.1
android version 4.2.2
base band version m9615a-cefwmazm-2.0.1700.48
it has the
aokp/ cyangonmod and paranoid android build inside.
dated wed march 27th 2013
and the kernal is 3/40 vertigo
is this a good kernal to use?
i am looking for something which can give better sound quality and better life battery actually
and is this the steps if i wan t to just install a new kernal ?
i mean can i just install a new kernal?
eg : go to recovery mode then install from sd card?
I would say Franco.
Yes, you just boot into recovery mode and flash the new kernel zip file. No need to wipe anything. (although some would say wiping cache is a good idea)
Matrix or semaphore are my choices

I would recommend wiping cache and dalvik cache before flashing a kernel, however that is just me. I have had issues in the past when I have not wiped the cache before flashing kernels.
I have to second franco kernel. I have never had a problem with it and I cannot complain about the battery life.
and i say trinity kernel is best for me. but this thread is pointless. everyone will list whatever kernel they use, pretty soon youll have all the kernels in the forums listed. might as well read which kernels are available. anyways, theres no best kernel, theres only the kernel thats best for your needs and best for your device. you have to try them, every device react to them differently. it only takes seconds to flash a kernel. after trying them all out, only then youll find the best kernel for you and your device.

wiping dalvik/cache for flashing a kernel is like wiping your ass to fill your car up with gas. it is not related. you never ever have to wipe anything when flashing a kernel. you had issues for other reasons. do you know what kernels do? do you know what the dalvik and the cache are? you best learn.
ahh franco kernal
ok, thx guys for your opinuons
im just wondering if this rom im using now .. the apc one.. is it actually heavy for my nexus.i feel its pretty fast but are there others which u think are better?as in wont use cpu so much?

Hi,
I flashed PA 3.95 yesterday but I can't see some of the options that I saw on youtube.
Maybe I need to install something else or it just not in PA?
If I won't find the others options I'll flash other ROM so I want suggestions for a stable feature packed and fast ROM.
Thanks in advenced

What options? Most of the customisation options for PA can be found in the Hybrid settings where you can customise almost everything.

I would suggest Slimbean 4.3 or wait for Carbon rom. Both are good.
Why not CM10.2 if you want a stable ROM?

If you are on 4.2.2 factory reset first otherwise skip this step.
rest is alright.. also flash the latest bootloader and radio from PA thread first post.. z20i is the latest bootloader and .84 is the latest radio.
very imp after flashing and wiping is done before rebooting FLASH SUPERSU V1.51 so that you wont have any root issues.. Done.

You can Flash MIUI rom if you are bored with the regular android looks.
Nexus is stuck on Google logo when I flash it.
Here's the procedure I followed :
Flashed Matr1x cfs 10.5 (Not CM version)
Flashed mako_JSStoJWR zip
Reboot System and now stock on logo.
I already tried to fix permissions and clear dalvik+cache.
does someone have any idea what I could have possibly done wrong ?

You have to flash a JWR kernel. Matrix is only JSS.
PA is now based on JWR.
