hi,
my desire hd fall on the floor and the touchscreen is cracked at the bottom (lcd display is still ok).
so what to do? buy a touchscreen for about ~40-50$ at ebay and replace it? (is it difficult for somebody who never did it? is there a manual?
pay 200$ for repair is extremly expensive for a glass but the advantage is you get gusrantee...
somebody who has experience in this problem?
thx in advance for help
I did it on my "old" Dell Streak 5...
no problems... http://android.modaco.com/topic/331525-morning-face-plant/
but if i get it right... after you repaired it the lcd was completly broken too after some time?
btw do you need special equipment to replace the digitizer/tochscreen?
YouTube: [`htc desire hd replace screen'] = List
1. `HTC Desire HD Disassembly Video'
...
thx for the video but i found this already.
its a complete disassembly of the htc desire hd (not for touchscreen replacement). if THIS is really necessary to change the digitizer.... no chance... found some other videos who are easier but not for desire hd....
i asked a local smartphone repair shop and they submit that a digitizer replacement is not possible because the LCD is glued with the digitizer (touchscreen). so i should buy a complete replacement including the LCD Screen which is really expensive....
is this true?
No
Sent from my Motorola Startac running Atari 2600 software!
I'm not sure if these will help you.

You probably saw them.
trust me you don't want to f..k with it: the digitalizer is glued to lcd and lcd is glued to mettar board and I have no idea what kind of damn glue is that it is so hard to rip it apart and when you do it is even harder to fit it all back in, trust me take it to a service shop here in croatia it is around 100 euros to change both lcd and touch digitalizer i'm sure that you can find cheaper service
fu...ked up my desire hd tryng to do that
thx bruno this helped me alot. if its glued i will do that and keep my guarantee.
but anyway 3.5 feet fall = 120-140 € is extremly hard. i will never ever buy a smartphone like that again without an insurance. if you think back to the good old nokia phones who can fall 300 times on the floor without any scratch...... and if they have any scratch buy a express on cover for 5$

the lcd is ok also the touch screen on top is ok
what is broken is the layer of glass/plastic between the lcd and the touch screen....

If you have warranty try to apply it, if not use original HTC replacements, just google it
good luck,
I've see what you need on ebay, it cost 85 euros...
the part u broken is glass maden! 85€ it's a good price, if u send the device to htc in order to be repaired, 85€ it will be just a happy dream.
wich part exactly do i need ?
i was looking at the HTC_Blackstone_Service_Manual and i see in the Disassembling procedure that the screen come together with the front cover

Hope you had some cover, we had a similiar thread like this a few weeks ago i got my HD insured soon after, for £6 a month with orange, cant afford to folk out £100+ pound if that happens to my HD. by the way how did that happen was much force needed?

i was surprise Very surprise
Spicefabry, did you find a good replacement?
Mine broke too two days ago
It start to ring and vibrate and felt from the table.
HTC service told me the glass come with display and they have to change both. For around 220Euros
And this is almost half of the price of a new HD
Hello,

Exactly....But the touch screen digitizer is very hard to replace. I have taken mine apart only to find it near impossible to replace without damaging the rest of the phone. I only wanted to replace the housing, but you must replace the housing and digitizer together.
NOTE: If you attempt this, remember to remove the stickers over the little ribbon cables before sliding them out. Found that one out the hard way.
Your best bet would be to send it to hTc for a repair. I really wouldn't risk it if I were you... I only did because I have trianing in electronics.
oh ok, any ideas of the costs when sending it to a repair center ?
The repair cost me 157 euros for replacing the housing and touchscreen sensor.
And if you want to prevent further costs with such issues .... uh ... quit smoking
Hey all,
Had my HD2 for about 3 weeks now, while walking yesterday I tripped and fell, this caused the digitizer to break. I have contacted HTC on a quote for repair. Seeing as they quoted 200 euros, I can't afford to have it fixed. I do have the skills myself to fix the device, all I need is a replacement digitizer. After many hours searching I have yet to find one on sale.
The LCD panel underneath is fine it's just the digitizer that has been shattered. Stunningly it does still responds to input, but having small shards of glass in my fingers isn't ideal.
Can anybody here help?
Thanks in advance,

I have been able to find digitizers for other models from HTC on ebay.
But currently there isn't anybody offering a spare HD2 digitizer, Does anybody know how I may be able to get my hands on one?
I have vacuum packed my HD2 for now to stop corrosion. Hopefully I can find a replacement part soon.
Thanks for reading,

Hi! How did you manage to seperate the digitizer from the lcd without crushing the lcd?? I tried and now my lcd is useless I've found a new digitizer on ebay, but not the lcd screen, and I need both.. Do you know where I can find a new one??
hi all,
today i suddenly dropped my hd2 during my daily commuting out of my shirt pocket when i bent doen to pick sumthing up...even thgh it was in the pouch,,,the inside lcd screen developed a long crack across the upper face ..thgh it is visble only on dark screen prominently..
worse is the touch functions have suddenly stopped responding..i can not access my phien features by touch as nothing happens..
screen is stuck in unlock screen..cannot slide across to unock
tried soft/hard reset, practically everthing
its just 20 days old for gods sake,,wh culd be the matter
I feel for you ... is it insured?
no..will warranty cover that,,the i can recive phone calls fine....thru buttons only...is there any way to remove that lock screen so at least i can access function thru keys
Even so, you can't do much with those buttons alone. But sounds like you only broke the digitizer. It costs much lesser than the LCD. You may want to try fix it yourself.
Sorry to hear this chap. If it's not insured (I don't understand why if it's not) then your best bet is to send it back to HTC to get it repaired.
You must be gutted.

You can Insure your phone my friend.. check this
http://newindia.co.in/per-mobile.asp
From what I know..
National Insurance Company, Oriental Insurance Company, New India Assurance Company and United India Insurance Company cover mobile phone insurance. They fix compensation equivalent to cost of replacement by new mobile of same specifications and capacity, including all taxes and duties.
Hope this helps..

hi all..my dealer says he had forwarded hd2 to htc service center and since its a new model the screen replacement is not avalible..he said they quoted estimated price of 20 thousand for the screen.obnoxious..thts 400 dollars!!!
i searched ebay and found digisters selling for about 60 dollars..
my question is shuld i go ahead and buy .what is exctly a digitiser ,,
i dont want to find out after spending the money that its not a digitser problem,,is there nyway to acertain its digitser proble..i no more trust my dealer
400 dollars? that is half a hd2.
the upper layer of the screen is afaik the digitizer.
touchscreen is built of two elements. the lcd and the digitizer.
the digitizer is for handling touch. that may be the part which cracked and is not responding now.
however I am not sure if it's easy to replace the digitizer since you must seperate the lcd and digitizer which are tied closely together. maybe someone experienced here on xda knows how.
ummmm..so u mean basicslly there are 3 components
1..outer most glass which we touch pysically
2..digitser which is embeded on
3 lcd screen
is the digitiser made up of plastic material which is crackable or in my case lcd whihc is 3rd layer has cracked while digitser is intact
unfortunatly cannt post snaps as the instrument is with dealer..
Hello guys,
today my hd2 fell on the floor and the display cracked. the lcd and touchscreen are still working fine, even in the area where its cracked.
Is there a chance just to replace only the plastic case on the lcd? Or do i have to completly renew it?
Thanks!
Nope, sorry.
There's no plastic display on the HTC, nor anything plastic. The LCD is soldered to the digitizer and normally both should be replaced. They cost around 100$, and the replacement is about 200$ in the HTC center. You do the math, it's the price for a sec hand HD2. Otherwise, you can buy and change the digitizer (costs around 50$). But this is a very delicate operation to do by our own -you have to cut the LCD from the cracked digitizer and do many other things. As someone have said for some other reason "it is an easy operation, but if you have no experience in soldering, do not try to learn it on your laptop motherboard". So, your choice is between repairing it in HTC for 200$ and "repairing" it some other service for 100$, with questionable quality and voiding your warranty.
As you may guess, I have walked that road already. My HD2 was 1 week old. After some sleepless nights (as I was wondering what to do AND because the "perfectly working cracked screen" had cut my fingers) I sold it 100-120€ under the second hand market price and found a new one. That's also my advice to you. I.e. the first one. The second one is to buy a silicon cover for your next HD2.
