Hey guys,
After playing around with the webtop via mods and webtop2sd stuff, I officially messed it up.
Is there a stock image of webtop, or a factory reset of webtop that someone could link me to?
Thanks.
Way to go einstein. Nah. Just kidding. Will flashing a new rom get it back? Isn't webtop in the osh partition? Did you back that up before you fubar'ed it?
I voided my warranty.
I didn't really mess it up. Everything works fine, even the chroot mod works.
However, I have tried everything to get full working ubuntu through webtop2sd. The only thing I have not tried/wiped/cleaned/deleted/reinstalled/etc is flashing back to original webtop.
I used CWM to backup Alien #4, but idk if that backs up webtop. Flashing a new rom does not get it back, it is separate from that.
Well try that. I havent got around to trying install ubuntu yet. I probably wont either. The lapdock is fairly sufficient for light duty. I do hope google adds hw acceleration to ics though. Webtop could use a little more oomph.
I voided my warranty.

You really don't read do you in that post you'll find the link to the OP's web site where at the bottom of the site he posted the stock images for gingerbread Its even posted in () at the bottom of there very link to the stock room that the images are posted here as well, read!!!
I don't understand, is stock webtop preinstalled into stock gingerbread?
I read it originally and I see nothing about webtop there.
Im done rooting unlocking and all of that. I have had custom everything for weeks now. I just need to restore webtop.

Oh yeah I see now thanks a lot. Sorry about that
I dont want to install the whole gingerbread, I just want to install the webtop.img file located in it. How to I install just .img files? I made webtop.img to webtop.zip and tried installing it through CWM but it didnt work.
Edit: I even tried installing the whole package in CWM (its a zip), and it aborts the installation. What now?
Edit again: Wait, all is good. I didn't know recovery backs up webtop. Thanks for the help. Sorry to be a pain.
OP, just look for Webtop-joe.zip
As far as I know, that's the original webtop image.
And yes, flashing a ROM will not always get a stock webtop.
P.S. @Pukemon, your joke was hilarious!!!! LOL
Cheers!

I have got CM7 to boot on my Captivate using some of the same methods used to boot the stock Gingerbread ROM. I have had a lot of questions about it, so I figured I would post what I did in one location and once I (and others) start to play more, findings can be posted here.
I take credit for nothing... All I did was switched around a couple files to boot CM7 instead of GB.
Requirements
You must be root on your phone
Your /data must be converted in Ext4 by Voodoo lagfix or another Ext4 lagfix.
You must have proceed to complete backups before
Some busybox installation is also useful for tar.
Another Important note
Be absolutely 100% sure you have access to the download mode using the 3 buttons combination.
If you don't, it will be extremely difficult (even if in theory not impossible) to to flash another kernel back.
Steps:
1: Download CM7 dump to SDCARD:
2: Run the following via ADB
Code:
adb shell
su
cd /data
mkdir gingerbread
cd gingerbread
busybox tar zxvf /sdcard/CM7.tar.gz
busybox cp -a /efs efs
sync
reboot recovery
3: Flash attached "I9020_reoriented_alpha_1223.zip" via CWM Recovery
Watch CyanogenMod 7 boot on your phone!
How do I get back?
This is a dual-boot setup... Everything is still intact that you were running before this.
All you have to do is download and flash your previous kernel via ODIN. Once you do this, the phone will reboot into Froyo. Simply reinstall the I9020_reoriented_alpha_1223.zip and your back on CM7 again, just like you left it. MAGIC!
What's about this port:
- It uses the Nexus S kernel compiled from sources by supercurio that has been reoriented for the Captivate by xcaliburinhand
- It runs the exact /system image release, that I pulled from a CM7 alpha .zip file posted in the NS forums.
Which filesystem?
This is simply a mod of supercurio's early gingerbread preview, so it runs on Ext4. no RFS at all, the kernel don't support RFS.
Does everything work ?
No; will update as I discover more of what does and doesn't work.
KEEP IN MIND
CyanogenMod ROMs do not come with any Gapps and using this method, you will not be able to access CWMrecovery to flash the Gapps files floating around. I hope to have an answer to getting Gapps installed with ease by late tonight.
For now; I'm going back to work,
Thanks for all the devs who did this hard work in such a short period of time... please donate to them. I have contributed nothing thus far!

Dropbox: CM7.tar.gz
Dropbox: I9020_reoriented_alpha_1223.zip

Uploading files to cut down on the amount of directions... had to manually add AT&T APN, but I was getting good network upload/download and voice... haven't tried much more than that, just got it booted about 2am last night and had to go to work at 8am... so I flashed back to GB; will be right back on this as soon as I get home this evening.

More than likely... anything not working on Gingerbread won't be working here either... these ports are going to be using the same kernel, for now.

Pretty sure they moved to the nexus s kernel source and just bolting mods on now, breaking stuff on the way...
We have full source for the Nexus S, kinda confused as to why they are so bent on using AOSP and porting code over to make it the same kernel... seems like a lot of extra work for no reason to me.
Gapps
I'm testing a method I came up with to install gapps right now, it might take a while but hopefully it'll be quick and easy. I'll report back if/when I get results.
This dual boot thing is MADNESS!!! (In tone of 300) hahaha.... Gotta try this when I get home.!
My i897 just need VolUp+Pwr to enter Recovery mode,
and VolDn+Pwr to enter Download mode.
To get out of any trouble,
don't flash any bootloader, and exclude(delete) any bootloader inside any update(whatever).zip
Normally you don't need to flash or update bootloader.
However, if your phone lack of 3butt comb.,
flash a i9000 bootloader then you will have better access to Recovery and Download mode.
If anyone wanna try this NS rom,
be sure to make backup of /efs.
It store your imei, product code and all identification data,
and this partition use RFS which NS doesn't use.

Read the first post... It's all stated right there...
Working on it now... been fighting with an SMS problem for the last two hours; come to find out it's a network/carrier issue, not ROM related. Ugh...
Ive had another Android phone, but in that case I had an unlocked bootloader and full access to custom ROMs. SO I am a lil weary at the whole Locked Bootloader, but Rooting is too important to ignore.
From what I understand, doing an SBF just puts you back at stock, so SBFing when you are stock doesn't do much, but do I need to backup before I try a new ROM? Or anything of the such?
Also - Is using ADB to root the recommended method? I'm very familiar with ADB, and have no problem using it.
What are the top ROMS? There seems to be so so many - and so spread out, are they basically just alternate themes and bloat removed, with a few changes in apps? I notice a few replace Blur apps with Aosp, which is nice in some cases, and a few replace the framework with generic Android completely.
Also - Again, I heard that the Droid 2 was able to be over-clocked by adding a module temporally during an active session, that would be lost after a reset, but I cant find this anywhere. Any help?
Is Hardware Acceleration enabled on stock? Also, are there any local.prop / build.prop changes that are recommended?
Any and all help would be appreciated! Once I get used to the different phone, I'll be more than happy to do some theme development on the Droid 2!
Thanks all!
z4root is the best way to root the D2:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833953
It's always good to do a backup before flashing ROMs.
Also note that you can't install a custom recovery due to the locked bootloader. Instead you will need to get Koush's Bootstrap Recovery app (from the market for $2.00). After you root, install the bootstrap, hit bootstrap recovery (grant su permission), then after it says success, hit reboot recovery to get into clockworkmod. You'll only have to hit bootstrap recovery once, unless you change ROM's.
As far as overclocking, loading custom modules manually can be very confusing. I suggest getting D2 Overclock app from the market (its like $1.50 and well worth it). Has profiles just like setcpu as well.
The top ROMs seem to be Liberty and Fission (both de blurred), however Apex is also a good ROM. If you like Blur, I'd go with Squidly 2.3.20
Hope this helped some.
Alot of information thanks alot! Is Koush's Bootstrap the only way? Im broke atm and dont have $2.00 in my paypal! Guess I'll just have to wait a week to try some roms! lol
Yeah the bootstrap is the only way. I read that koush's blog had a free version to download but it seemed the download link was down. Maybe try googling for it.

If I use TI backup, and Uninstall an app - will SBF restore it?

Sbf returns the phone to stock, like ruu's for htc phones, so all data and apps are wiped.
And your right, its always good to donate, even if you get the app free.

It wasn't there, but I did find it, and am installing Libery now! We will see what happens!

Hi!!!
I was using aura rom on my device, but i flashed back the SBF of FROYO!
After the update, my WebTopMod doesn't work anymore.
I was using this config:
Rom: Aura 1.2.1.3
Kernel: Faux`s 0.2.0 Stock
Baseband: N_01.77.33P
Webtop: WT-1.2.0-110
Now i'm using
Rom: Stock Froyo 2.2
Kernel: Stock
Baseband: N_01.77.07P
Webtop: OSHWT_U1_6.46.0
When i connect the atrix to the dock, the WebTopMod doesn't be show on the list. Why?
if you flashed using SBF method everything was overwritten, there fore you loose any hacks/mods/settings. i am trying to work this outright now, ive tried a couple different sbfs which im sure have webtop, but am experiencing exatly your same problem. you would think if you flashed back to stock then webtop would work.
Ive done a check and the apk files required to show the webtop option when docking are not in the system/app folder this is why the option does not appear.
there probably is a way to manually inject the apk ad change the perms but im after a more natural way to solve this. i wan tto jsut have a stock atrix rooted with webtop at the moment this appears impossible.
the reason for me wanting this set up over some nija mixxed up crazy awesome rom is that battery life. when running any of the other rom avaialble (i mean ANY!) theyre all screwed up an battery life is around 3hrs. stock froyo works like a dream. but as you say no webtop!
hopefully ill find a cure tonight.
edit: nm disregard
I've executed some erase fastboot commands, like CACHE, USERDATA, WEBTOP, PREINSTALL, -W, etc...
If we try to install webtopmod hack to use webtop without dock?
I've not tried any mods at all not really bothered about modding the webtop my ideal setup would be
Stock rooted atrix froyo on latest available build (not 1.3.1 orange uk, I'm currently on 2.1.1 Froyo). With working Webtop. No hacks just regular good old webtop working as it should out of the box.
I think I may have found a rom and fix for the crazy CPU issues but tph I'm more interested in just having a reliable phone with webtop and root for screen shots etc. Pretty low end request really not sure what I'm missing!!

I remember that i've changed some files in webtop to work with debian disk...
There's a way to CLEAN ALL WEBTOP FILES and install it again?
Thx for the information! By the way what is TPH?
Probl meant to write tbh (to be honest)
Let us know if there is a fresh way to install webtop. And wether its linked to the build of android we run? Would we be able to flash a newer webtop from an gingerbread build to a froyo device?

I will wait... if you know a way to correct this, let me know! =]
Stock Froyo 2.2.2
Hi guys
Fenny developed these for me, mine is on stock Froyo 2.2.2 (4.4.80.M860)
I did root my device, and copied the 2 files manually, and rename the other to .odex files to .bat.
Hope it works for you!
All credit to Fenny!
Cheers I'm trying it now, the question still remains why doesn't webtop work out of the box when flashing a stock froyo sbf I even made sure it was the full sbf not the service variaty
Also should I drop in system/app with no permission change
Ok trying now renamed existing .odex-.bat and existing .apk-.odex
Ok nothing happens and renaming the files doesn't put it back to how it should be. Is olyem_u4_2.1.1 (froyo 2.2.2) sbf latest for uk atrix? This is what I'm running ATM. Just flashing it again as we speak. I'll keep looking this is a nice Rom fast and smooth, and contrary to what allot of pol say i think blur is good.
Not great but good.
This works for me too!

Rename the original files for backup purpose!
First of all, try to reboot your phone and replace files while phone starts.
Reboot, replace and set permissions! Reboot again and enter on webtop. Wait a few seconds and reboot again and enter on webtop!

Ok im deffinatly lost now. Im fine with copying the files in there but how should I change permissions, I've heard of doing it via adb, im guessing thats what u mean when u say doi it before the phone starts up.
Ill have another shot at it this eve. If anyone has any adb comand tips im not sure how.I would change perms. (Im ok with setting up and usin adb (there are flook many threads about adb use on the net.)

I dont like CM7. tried it a few times on the aria to get used to it. but just couldnt.

yeah you're able to backup the roms. you have to root it first so download this:
http://mophoforum.com/the2dcour/RSDLite5.5.rar
then use that program to flash this:
http://diamantephoto.com/IHOP_Bell.rar
then download fastboot and type in devices then take that special code and type in fastboot oem unlock "device code"
then download this http://server1.underpants-gnomes.biz/~romracer/atrix_recovery/recovery-atrix5.img and put it in the same directory as fast. I just renamed it to 1.img lol so i don't have to type out the whole filename
but anyways you type in
fastboot erase recovery then fasboot flash recovery 1.img then after that you'll have and unlocked bl and a custom recovery. then you download the alien rom place it in the main part of the directory you hold down the lower volume button and the power button then go down to android recovery (use the volume up button to pick) and go to backup/restore and backup (use the power button to click)
then you go to wipe/factory reset and then advanced wipe delvik cache, click yes to everything. then go to install zip files from sd card then if you put it in an sd card click that and if you installed it from internal then click that. and after it's done you go to wipe cache partition and advanced then wipe delvik partition. i don't know if you knew how to do any of that but i was just putting it out there. i got the links from the bl unlocker forum btw
lol just about got all that...
so what does flasing that first file actually do.. i cant just flash it, and not know what it does, or how i know it worked etc.
Im pretty sure i can figure it all out, just dont want to brick the thing.
p.s. the first link is dead...

guyz i need some advice as im currently using optimus 2x but i wanted to switch moto atrix is this a good decision or not and i wanted to know that weather atrix will get ICS update or not plz reply my question
Ok so the phone is rooted. its been a while since i did my aria, I think i need to get Hboot, or fastboot on it, so i can backup the rom..?
If its unlocked and rooted you can download Rom manager and just use the official CWM recovery to nand backup and then flash or after flashing CWM you can download RomRacers modded recovery from the development section, it's what I use just for the little modifications it has, and after Dow loading the CWM flashable zip of RomRacers recovery just reboot into recovery and flash RomRacers recovery. This method will give you RomRacers recovery and it will make Rom Manager think you have CWM installed so you can utilize all it's features. Hope this helps and if you need anything cleared up just let me know.
Link to RomRacer's recovery: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1204500
On each color for the recovery, the first link is the .img only flashable with fastboot like you mentioned and the second one is obviously the .zip CWM flashable update.

Again see link in my signature for ICS install instruction. I suggest you play with a 2.2 like Fishman 's Bionix and familiarize yourself with handling functions like flashing, restoring, ram tweaks, ....otherwise you might get into more than you can handle. ICS is a pretty advanced flash and could potentially brick your device if something goes wrong. Not as easy as just flashing update.zip, hence my guide. Also see warning at the top of the guide. Very important and the cause/solution is still WIP.
Also you are on your own for finding the needed files. Sorry but my dropbox acct has been getting flexed lately so i am giving it a break. Good luck and make sure you hit Xrider's thanks for posting in two separate threads to helps you with the .apk.
Going to bed. Good luck.
