I have installed lite'ning rom, but I need to completely restore i.e. remove root, remove CWM..etc
any pointers where to start?
p.s. I have downloaded the stock rom from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
Wipe data/cache from CWM recovery
Flash the rom you downloaded.
wouldn't that keep CWM though?
I'm guessing it won't after resetting phone to factory settings.

In samsung land the recovery joined with the kernel, so flashing a stock rom with a stock kernel will remove CWM.
if it's not clear, you have to wipe data/cache and then flash the rom via Odin or Heimdall.
I would recommend you flashing VillainRom 1.1 if you want to stay on the custom side of life.. or buying a usb-jig if you want to send it in for service or so.

OK guys, big problem here need ur help. Basically cut a long story short, overcome cwm caused my tab to boot loop as it wouldn't perform any tasks I wanted it to. So I was wondering if theirs another cwm I could install? Through Odin? Or can I install stock through Odin?
sent from my iPhone 4S.
haha I bet that confused ya
try this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1090289
if you are on bootloop you better start with stock rom flashing with odin. make a complete wipe and after install with odin a cwm kernel. from there you can later install any rom again.
good luck!
After you get that all set up put overcome rom back on your tab then what you should do is download rom manager and use it to flash 4.0.0.4 recovery and go from there
Thanks for all ur replies I fixed it by simply flashing cwm 4.0 in odin and then going from their I installed stock beforehand though. Thanks for all ur help guys

Ok so i flashed ICS onto my galaxy note with CMW. I then boot into CMW recovery and i pressed wipe data to factory reset. The phone got stuck on wiping data and i pressed the power button. This caused it to restart but it got stuck on samsung logo. I thought ok i will just flash GB rom using PC odin but this did not work. I will send it back to samsung tomorrow for repair, hopefully they repair it. My binary count is 'no', can they tell if i have CMW on it?
ANYWAY YOU ARE WARNED!!! DO NOT WIPE ON THE OFFICIAL ICS ROM.
If you are getting to the samsung logo, have you tried starting in download mode or recovery mode and then re-flashing the rom?

What is your phone's history? Stock gb or yours one used to be flashed with any leaked ics kernel or rom? This is giving people getting more details what they should or should not do.

search the thread on this forum and look for flashing prerooted gb lc1 rom with pit file via PC odin and make sure you are on the right pit file version bf flash.
Just read more and maybe this could help you at least back to gb when your phone still be able to boot into download mode.

Delete this thread! I wipe and wipe and wipe....no problems...all depend where u coming from....so stop all this stupid warnings......or stop flashing any ROMs.
I believe the problem is a little more complex than just wiping with CWM. And I believe OP should describe a little bit more of history before I got to that point.
I have personally just wiped data/factory reset with CF-CWM with NO problem at all.
I went from stock GB KK2 to stock ICS LPY using CF-CWM . Did not wipe anything before the update. Everything went smooth. Today I decided to wipe in order : Dalvik - Cache - and finally data/factory reset , all from the CWM recovery screen, that I started from the CWM Manager. Rebooted my SGN and everything was fine.

As quoted many times, some people can wipe 1000 times until brick or even forever and it may never happen, even on leaked kernel, if you wiped 500 times still dont mean it is safe for everyone.
I can only speak from my experience, but I also have had no problems with LPY ICS.
I came from CM9, but I decided to flash stock GB with PC odin before flashing LPY.
Rooted GB with the zergrush exploit, then flashed LPY with CF_root kernel using mobile odin pro.
Made a backup of LPY and a factory reset wipe in CWM. No problems at all.
No idea if I just got lucky or not. Bit nervous about using it, thinking to go back to CM9, to be safe.

Stock recovery does not work fine - we have at least one incident of someone experiencing eMMC damage after a wipe with stock recovery
As stated EVERYWHERE - Just because some people are able to wipe successfully doesn't mean everyone is safe. The chance of bricking is maybe 5-10%, but:
On safe kernels it's 0%
Those who have wiped before are not guaranteed to continue being OK - over in the Epic 4G Touch forums, some users experienced problems after safely wiping 10-20 times or more. Some people's devices died on the first wipe, other's continue to be fine

Hmmm...
Interesting... actually in the 1st place y did u press the power button during wipe? This mayb the reason rather than Germany ICS for ur case...
If the phone got stuck, the phone wont respond even if u press the power button.. i suspect its doing wiping in the background... need to b a little patient.
I once had wipe data for abt 15 - 20 mins but i juz let it do the job till it said its completed...

I absolutely do not understand this at all. But, I guess no one does.
There's GOT to be some variables that are similar with everyone that has the bricks happening. I have not bricked and I have been on about 4 or 5 leaked ROMs (and kernels). But, I decided not to take any more chances and I am on official ICS rom now, however, I did not flash CF Root kernel with the Open Germany ICS Rom. I got root by flashing CWM.zip and Busybox (per Dr.Ketan's post).

Not stupid.
Same thing has happened to lot of people including me.
I didnt ever touch CM9. Went from GB safe kernel straight to LPY. And did data/factory reset from CWM and bam... Phone is bricked.
DId not touch Nandroid, Did not restore, did nothing other than wipe.
I can get into download mode and CWM recovery. Even managed to flash the redpill recovery and GB rom via CWM but phone wont boot. ODIN cannot flash and gets stuck at NAND flashing step.
Its not stupid warning. Its a valid warning.

I didn't even do that. I got root using Mobile Odin Pro and injecting SuperSU from the CheckRom/Abyss 6.2 GB ROM. I cannot imagine anywhere else I may have got root. I did not use CF Root during or after the flash of LPY. I have stock recovery with fully rooted Stock LPY.
Now My question is how to flash a ZIP file of a Custom ROM without using CWR... Unless they release them in Tars as well as Zips. In which case the ROM is likely to have the CWR in the kernel anyway.

Stay stock and rooted. Study what these custom roms have modified and do it yourself. Most of the time, it's eye-candy flavor that they add for those who want it the easy way. They should be aptly called "customizer" instead of "devs".
Then again, that's just me

Hi,
I have installed the latest build (15/7-2012) of locera's UNOFFICIAL CM9 build - and it went fine.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1542911
Im using CWM-Recovery 5.5.0.4 that locera also created
But after i tried to shutdown the tablet, i just keeps showing Samsung splash/CM9 Splash and then reboots.
I have tried to clear the cache, but it does not help.
Anybody got any ideas?
Just flash ics stock rom with Odin and make data factory reset (this will remove all things in device if you have any important files move to extsd)
Then flash cwm recovery and flash any custom rom you want
Good luck

Going from CM9 to official ICS I was also getting a bootloop. To get official ICS to work, I had to flash official ICS with Odin, then reboot in stock recovery and make a full reset. I think that going to or coming from CM9 creates a problem with stock rom. Even with stock HC rom it wasnt working anymore.

You can try a wipe data, then wipe cache and wipe dalvik. (wipe data will remove all you apps and system setting, but your files should remain intact). If still bootlooping, (restore you backup thru CWM if you have one), reflash CM9 via CWM after doing what previously mentioned.
If that doesn't work, do what acc_kareemomar suggests.
I have the international i9500 and i wanna install a custom rom (AOKP to be exact)
now my question is can i backup the official samsung rom and then return to it using recovery?
if i can so which recovery should i use? (CWM or TWRP)
i'm asking that because i couldn't backup the official samsung rom on any other device i had (S1 and S2 i9100) but maybe i did something wrong!
Anyone?

Afaik I don't think you can literally backup any ROM. U have to have a flashable copy of it be it .tar or .zip and just backup apps

You can try to backup in newest CWM.

You can do this from both type of recovery. Take backup on external sd card and save it to some where on HDD.
Yes flash a custom recovery (cwm etc) and backup from within there. If you ever need to reinstall, restore it also from cwm recovery and flash stock recovery and that's it. Burn to fully stock.

I think yes.. you can back up.. (maybe Im not sure with this one)
But before restoring your back up from stock and you are coming from aokp make sure that you flash first stock rom in odin to avoid problems..
The answer is No, you can't back up your stock unrooted rom.
You can however root it, install a custom recovery and backup the rooted rom on your phone. You will need to check if it was backed up on your internal drive 1st before flashing as you will loose it if you wipe the data on your phone.
You can also go to Sammobile.com and see if they have your rom there. Go to the firmware part then check your firmware at the top . It will ask you for you device (I9500) and country then give you the latest firmware available. You will need to register to download these roms...

You don't have to be rooted to flash / use a custom recovery. Therefore he can backup without rooting his device.
I did it myself before I rooted / customised my stock rom.

Grab your stock ROM (either from Sammobile.com or around on this very forum) - N900 I assume since you are using Ketan firmware? (this is important to get right) - Exynos Model yes? -
Get Odin, load the .md5 stock rom into Odin AP/PDA slot, put your phone into download mode, and connect to PC - hit start.
Make sure KIES is not running and you have the correct USB drivers installed.
yes its sm-n900 exynos one
and it doesnt matter if i m on cwm recovery?

is there any problem with dr.ketan firmware? I just want to try it.
To go back to your stock rom / firmware just download the stock rom first from sammobile.
On cwm do wipe / factory reset, then wipe everything else such as cache partition and dalvik cache.
Format the /system, /sdcard etc. That the step that I always do to go back to stock frimware to make sure I got it clean.
Hope it help.

I'd say he probably just wants stock back. @dr.ketan's ROMS are, from what I have read one of, if not the best for Exynos models of Note 3- I cannot comment myself due to having an N9005.
