Has anyone noticed that after around 3 weeks of using the HD2 the battery life magicly gets bareable?
After 24 odd hours the batterly life is at 76% were as before it would be on its last legs.
Its made me slightly happier with it now, not having to charge it every second i got.
I recall someone explained before that it's simply becoz one tends to fiddle with the device more when it's newly acquired. Now your battery can last longer probably because you are playing with it less each day.
Or did you do any magic power-saving tweak that you can tell us more about?

Lion and LiPo batteries achieve their max capacity after a period of use similar to the time you have reported.
To keep them there charge as often and for as long as you can.
Exact, it's not your battery lasting longer, it's just you not spending your day playing with the thing anymore.
It's always the same thing, the more a device can do, the more you do with it. On my first 1h train journeys after getting my HD2, I was able to kill 50% battery in 1hr. My first thought was "wow, with my Kaiser I would only use like 15%!!"
But then I took a second thought. I used 50%, but I was browsing the web, in bad reception areas, while listening to music the whole time. With my Kaiser, I'd put music on, check 3 webpages, then put it on the tray with just MSN connected and just pick it up to read/type a message once in a while.
On a next trip, I "forced myself" to do the same with the HD2. Just checked the news for 5 mins, then only listened to music and picked up msn once in a while, plus an unexpected 10min phone call. Guess what? I've only used 20% battery during the trip this time
The "problem" is that browsing with the Kaiser was just painful, so I'd just check the news and put it away. On the HD2 it's so comfortable I forget it and just spend my whole trip browsing heavy pages, which obviously kills battery in no time...
It may be also that battery charge controller incorretly displays battery charge.
It may be that it shows you 75% after 2 days and then by 1 hour your battery will fall down to 1%.
So this afternoon I decided to charge my phone for the first time in 3 1/2 days as the battery level dropped to 9%. I last charged it fully on Thursday night, and unplugged in on Friday morning. I unfortunately don't have screenshots to prove it because I plugged it in briefly (for no more than 10 minutes) to update to FRF72, and also rebooted.
If you are wondering, here are my settings:
- Wifi on (Sleep disabled)
- 3G on (Set to WCDMA Only in the secret menu)
- GPS on
- Sync on
I'm using stock Froyo (FRF72), and have had quite a lot of stuff running:
- Facebook
- Twitter
- Meebo
- FotMob (World Cup alerts)
- A fair bit of browsing
The only thing I haven't really done which I think kills the battery is listening to music. I listened to it for about 30 minutes on the train this morning the battery dropped from 32% to 16%.
So to the people complaining about the battery life being terrible: You're Doing It Wrong!
That's impressive if true. I've been getting really great battery life lately with CM and IR's kernel as well. I can go two days on a single charge, but I plug it in every night anyway.
I find that the biggest battery waster is phone calls. Maybe switching to EDGE would help with that, but I don't feel like it's worth the effort.
Lucky bastard. I get like 1day 4hours for typical use with Cyanogenmod 5.0.8 with 3G off, wifi off unless I need it, sync off, gps off, and maybe 200 texts sent a day and a phone call or two for like 5mins. The battery life is really bad for me...and has been ever since using CM but i can't go without it, I'm just too use to it now.

That is good.
I only got 3 days but to be fair I did have to jump start my car with it, that may have upped the consumption.
i unplugged my phone 7.5 hours ago, and i am still at 95% . using stock froyo on 3g with wifi on.
i even took a screenshot but will post it later.
You're either a liar or didn't use your phone at all
I have serious doubts you can get that kind of battery life. I tried not using the phone at all with lots of services stopped and it could barely go through 2 days.
3 days is a bit too much.
3 and a 1/2 days on a single charge is great... I doubt u'd get much better battery life on any phone with the same features as the N1...
I get 6 to 8 hours on stock 2.1 - no fair!

I call shenanigans.
Either the OP is trolling or using a non-stock battery.
dude thats great battery life! i get like 1 day lol

if i don't do anything i also can get 3 days. but i play so much that i have to charge every 7 hours my tipical day is something like this:
Listening music 3 hours straight (i travel 3 hours)
Reading the news
Browsing the net
sometime a little talking
playing with the phone
and when i arive i got 60% left after 3 hours. i think it's impressing but i got better battery on my Hero. i also carry a power pack with me as emergency. i can almost charge my phone twice
My wife gets that on her Hero running 2.1 (was also getting that running 1.5).
I have a hard time getting a full day to be honest. One thing I've always wondered is what kind of reception these people get and how they store their phones.
At home and at work, my 3G reception goes from 1-2 bars while I'm connected to Wifi. I find this drains the battery.
I also carry my phone in my pocket without any case whatsoever.

Admittedly this weekend I haven't used it as much as I usually do, however even so I still get pretty good battery life. I've had quite a few occasions when I've easily had 2 days of battery life. I don't understand how people get less than a day.
Here are a few things that I have noticed definitely help:
- If using 2.1, install a custom kernel. On stock 2.1 I barely got a day and a half.
- Connect to wifi where you have it, and set the wifi sleep state to none. Although wifi uses more power than 3G, when it is idle it is a lot more efficient, and due to the increased bandwidth it can be idle longer. You also save on your data plan. You may also want to disable the feature to notify you of open wifi networks, however I don't know if this has an effect on battery life (I suspect it does).
- If you are in an area that has 3G coverage most of the time, in the secret menu set it to WCDMA Only. This will prevent it falling back to the slower and less efficient GPRS or EDGE.
- Keep an eye on what apps are using up the battery life. It is rather easy to accidentally create a service that prevents the CPU from sleeping which will quickly kill the battery. If you find one let the developer know and / or find an alternative.
- Turn off things you don't use (i.e. Bluetooth).
When I left the office this afternoon my battery was at 76%, and it has no dropped to 65%. On my 30 minute subway journey home I listened to music, however I also had no coverage. I'm not sure whether this drop is mainly due to music or having no coverage, so I'm going to investigate more. The battery usage panel says that 'Cell Standby' has used the majority of my battery since it was last unplugged, and it also recommends to enable airplane mode when in an area of no coverage. I should probably also note, that other than this I'm always in an area of strong coverage (yaye microwaves!).
I got about 3 days without using the phone AT ALL.
On a fresh brand new N1 with Cyan ROM.
3 days with moderate usage is false, I'll put money on it.
There is no way that is possible yet with a stock battery no matter what ROM you're using.
If you want to confirm your claim I'll be happy to see the screen shots.

I'm using the Phillips Power2Go http://www.philips.co.uk/c/power-so...=85F14C383C63DDF5599FE5DA0A89CD07.app102-drp1
A followup from my music tests: Playing music for 25 minutes on low volume dropped the battery percentage from 64% to 61%, so I'm guessing that isn't the major killer I thought. I'll try switching on airplane mode before I go on the train tomorrow and see if that improves things
I would gladly trade you my 8 - 10 hours on a stock n1 with moderate use for your 3 1/2 days. That is with everything off. If I start playing a game or listening to the radio I better have a charger close by. My phone is only about 2 months old if that.

I'd be happy with ONE full day of a battery. I'm positive your not getting 3. N a half. Stock kernel. Stock froyo. Basic battery nd decent usage?? Ill donate...no give yield $50 if that's so..

I have no choice but to charge every day with my use. I've found that the battery is usually empty after the screen has been on for about 3 and a half hours. Where my display accounts for about 70% of the battery drain. I always have the brightness at maximum though so I guess it's to be expected.
Hi people,
I have recently dumped a Omnia2 for a Desire, just to try Android.
Although it's a beautiful phone, battery life is [email protected], so I'm considering a come back to WM, maybe to HTC HD2.
But before I make my decision, I want to know if the HD2 battery can last for at least 40 hours in my normal usage:
- 40 minutes of phone calls (made/received);
- 90 minutes (1,5 hours) of listening to music over bluetooth, using a bluetooth stereo headset;
- Auto-sync weather every 3 hours;
- Auto-sync email every 3 hours;
- 10-15 minutes of internet browsing;
- Manual sync of my Google account to update agenda and contacts twice a day.
All connections are made using 3G, I'm over a 3G network all day long.
With this daily usage, I got my Omnia2 running for about 65 hours! Let's say, almost 3 days long! I even left it on all night long, without worrying with the battery. Each day consumed 30%-35% of battery juice.
With that usage in my Desire, after one day 45% to 50% of battery juice is gone. I have to turn it off at night so I can use it the next day without recharging. It's about 26-28 hours of total usage before I have to charge it. I don't know if this is normal, maybe I just got spoiled by Omnia2 battery.
What about HD2? Does anyone have a similar usage? Do you think that if I use a HD2 that way, its battery will last longer than Desire battery?
If I had usage like that I wouldn't carry two batteries around with me Music trashes my battery and takes usage above 300mah which in theory is just over 4 hours and I listen quite a fair bit. The desire has a larger battery than the HD2 anyway and I don't think win mo has that great power management.
Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but i seriously doubt that you will be happy with the HD2 battery performance (based on your usage)
im sure you're aware there are many threads re: the poor battery issue, personally i use my phone much more conservatively than you do & struggle to get more than 1 days use (usually 30% charge remaining by the end of the day).
i mostly use edge (switch to 3g if i want to download large email attachments/ web files or watch online vids)
all updates are manual & wifi & bluetooth switched off.
i decided to stop worrying about the battery some time ago & invested in 2 spare batteries. its not ideal but in this case i think the pros of the HD2 out weight the cons.
probably not what you wanted to hear, but this has been my experience, maybe someone can offer more positive feedback.
however if you like winmo, im sure you wont be disappointed with this excellent phone.
all the best.
battery extender
you could try a battery extender like the just mobile gum pro that i recently bought for UK £33 shipped. it's Li-ion with a capacity of 4400mAh, sufficient to fully recharge my hd2 2-3 times from flat without the inconvenience of having to pop the back and soft reset the phone as you would swapping in a spare hd2 battery.
wow, sorry to say this but hd2 is no match for your usage

that is interesting. How long does it take to recharge the phone???
See this thread
Hi,
Take a look at this thread -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=718173
I regularly get more than 48 hours out of my battery but then I down listen to music much and definitely not via bluetooth so I have no idea how that would affect battery life.
I dow however use my phone a lot for reading ebooks which mean the screens on for extended periods and I still get to 48 hours +.
I'm busy transferring audio books to my phone so will be able to report back soon about extended periods of audio listening but that will be with the wired headset.
Regards

similar to the mains charger -- a couple of hours, and you can use the phone while it's charging (albeit slowing the charge rate). note: this is using the htc-supplied sync cable to charge which might be limiting the current draw to 500mA. the gum pro is rated for 1000mA output and i've just ordered a mini-to micro- usb adaptor with the data lines shorted which apparently fools the phone into thinking a mains charger is connected so that it may draw more current and charge faster still.
i forgot to mention before that the gum pro is relatively small and light -- think the weight of a pack of cards and about 2/3rds the size.
I do;
30min calls a day
1hr wifi router
30+min video playback
20 reminders a day (sound n vibrate)
All net updates every 30min (twitter, 3 emails, weather)
6am off charger - 6pm back on charger and usually has 40-50% battery life...
I reckon the HD2 would come close to your needs but there would be no margin for error. If it did what you asked the battery would die doing it...
I don't get people who want a phone to last 2-3 days...
I mean, don't people sleep at least a few hours everyday (during which the phone could recharge)?

It's a very good battery life you have there. I guess it would fit my needs.
BTW, you are on Telstra operator, right? If I'm not wrong, Telstra has 3G 850mhz. Wouldn't this better battery life?
Question for those who have the Venue Pro: For the past two day that you all had the phone how is the battery holding up?
I'd like to know that too, battery life is the reason why I don't want a HD7.
I took mine off the charger about 7am yesterday, went to work, used the phone to browse the web on the train, make a few calls, send some messages and mail & used the media player. Got home around 7PM with about 20%, which was about what my brother's Venue Pro had as well.
His phone died around 8:30, I had mine on the charger by 9PM, so I would say the battery lasts anywhere from 12-15 hours with moderate usage. This was on the first full charge though, so that may improve.

Thanks, that's n ot to bad.
Feels like it's similar to my HD2 in usage. Wish the battery lasted a little longer but then again i'm using the thing more then usual since it's new
Those of you with the relaunched DVP, could you comment on battery life please? More to my query, can you use it as a Zune all day and still be able to have a full day of usage?
would like to know this as well
battery is decent, I had wifi running while I was planted in the phone for a straight 2 hours and it lost about 1/4 of the battery. I have yet to go a full day straight without putting it back on the charger about mid day. So maybe tomorrow I will give a review on the battery
Today it's been going for about 15 hours of really light usage and it's at half power.
Yesterday I used it web browsing for an hour or two and used it about as much as I ever will and it got about 18hours.
First day with over 300MB of downloading, syncing and first charge resulted in about a 6 hour battery life.
I would like to test straight up MP3 playback time but ran into the problem of volume. It rings through the headphones if you have headphones plugged in so I wouldn't be able to hear my phone ring. Not really an option. And I'm not keen on tinny mini speakers playing music for a couple of hours.
Yesterday woke up to its first full charge.. used it to surf and text and made about 30 min call. Texted off and on all day, even played with a few apps and had wifi on for about 3 hours. It died in about 10-12 hours.
So it should last a full work day, and if your at work you could have it on charge.
On standby today (havent played with) and about 30 min of talk time. Its showing almost no charge lost in 4 hours..
Charles
I don't know if its just me but on my first full charge I only got 4 hours of usage. On the second charge it jumped to 7 hours. I'm pretty sure its because I was constantly using it, but it was still a bit of a surprise to see my battery life drop so quick, especially after hearing reports of 10-15 hours of moderate to heavy use.

Same here, I have been so disappointed by battery life.
on idle
2 and a half days
moderate use
1 day and about 5 hours (no playing just sms very few calls)
heavy use
18 hours
my phone just died and this is after 1 and a half of use! this thing is incredible compare to my G1!
I don't even have to lower the brightness and turn off all the features unlike my G1, which really hindered my experience with that phone. It's the same story with my friend's new MyTouch 4G. His die after 7-8hrs of use and he has to turn off features and turn down the brightness.
This phone on the other hand, I used it quite often in those 1day and half. texting, phone calls, internet, playing games, watched an episode of family on Netflix app, took many pictures and played with camera settings and many other things, yet it lasted that long! WOW

this is my experience also
hi, just got this huawei u8800 phone. and heard the battery is bad on this phone. so just want to ask what is normal/expected battery time on this one.
my phone went from 100% to 75 % in 12 hours.
usage in this periode:
* about 8 hours phone was off/standby
* about 2 hours normal usage (playing with the phone settings)
* about 2 hours connected to PC with usb
is this "normal/to be expected" battery discharge time form this type of phones.
my last phone was a sony ericsson K750i and that looks like it had better battery time, but that was not a smartphone, so was just wondering if this is normal for smartphone/this phone.
thanks for helping out.
My u8800 spent 50% the battery time from 8:00 to 17:00 .
I have to recharge it everyday~
mine spend about 10% in 1 hour. I guess the poblem is from chainfire 3D v3.3
Mine holds up to 2,5 days, but generally 1,5 days with normal use

Mine too with MIUI and FCC. Overclocked at 1.2 . I end up charging it during the night having most if the times about 30% , and I use phone a lot...
Sent from my u8800 using XDA Premium App
Mine is running at 1.5/800 on MIUI 11.04.11 and it lasts about 15-24 hours even with 3g on. Totally depends on what you are doing.
My phone went from 100% - 64% and that was in 2 hours without touching it
Sent from my u8800 using xda premium
Mine is really weird, it lasts over 20 hours with wifi on and connected and only 10-12 on 3G.
My phone holds about 3 days with a little use, few calls, some playing (10 min/day), some wifi use... i use to turn off what i'm not using: gps, wifi, BT, etc
Mine is always under %10 after max.18 hours from unplug it.In fact.
Specially,1 hour active wifi connection continously (facebook,twitter...etc.without direct download anything)drain my batter about %20.Basic math says,if i use 5 hours wifi continously, battery will die at the end of 5 hours.
Is it normal? Can anyone confirm or deny?
Mine usually lasts 1.5 days. Everytime I'm in a room/building with Wi-fi, I turn it on, send a lot of SMS and talk about 1h30/2h every day. For me, its fine!

2 hours on USB is probably enough to full change the battery, so those stats seem to have no meaning. You can use the phone with everything switched on and play games and watch youtube videos, that if afterwards you put it 2 hours on USB, the battery will be almost full.
