Ns4g coming from E3D - Nexus S General

Would I be able to use roms for the regular nexus S on my ns4g or would it not work right?

I also came from the E3D, hated it lol. Why did you decide not to keep it?

I also returned my EVO-3D for the Nexus-S 4G. I am a sucker for this Super AMOLED screen and pure stock. I am rooted with Oxygen 2.2.1 ROM and Matr1x 5.5 kernel. Phone is smooth as water and good battery life.
I had the EVO 4G too was just getting sick of a heavy brick phone. And the screen look washed out. Compared to the EVO 4G the Nexus-S feels like a big upgrade in tech. Compared to EVO-3D the Nexus is on par speed wise I just like the form factor better on the Nexus fits in the hand perfectly.

there are plenty of good roms for the nexus s 4g. just download rom manager and download a few. I like CM7 nighties with matrix cfs kernel. A lot of people like MIUI (it is closed source, so no 4G... and 3G speeds suck in my area). Hell, even stock rooted kicks the EVO's ass! There are plenty of good ROMs though, you'll be happy with any of them I think.

I'd honestly recommend Oxygen 2.2.1. Fast, stable, and has theme engine just incase you get bored with one color lol.

This. I love my NS4G. it's one of the most beautiful phones in the market, the screen and form factors are PERFECT, I really hope the next Nexus phone has a similar form factors cause i won't be getting a 4.3+ inch phone... I haven't really gotten to root my phone cause i love how smooth stock is but i might look into that Oxygen rom.

Definitely recommend Oxygen ROM it is a pure stock rom but gets rid of the bloat and speeds everything up. But still makes the phone look and feel like stock.

Has that been 100% confirmed? if it is, i guess i won't be buying it.

Damn I'm running Pete's Tom because I remember bugless roms from the Evo. Oxygen on the other hand was voted most stable and reliable rom on the DHD is it the same guy? And I left the E3D because it wasn't like oooo super cool like I thought it would be and i wanted this phone anyway at first so I said hey why not. Plus sense for boring.

Try miui, it's mad cool. I've never tried oxygen but buglesspete's rom is stable and fast.

Soon to be nexus s owner..

As the title implies, I will be acquiring a nexus s soon. I currently have an epic 4g I'm trading even to this girl that hates touchscreens lol
Anywho, I love my epic. I'm sure ill love the nexus s also. I was hoping to get some input as to where this community is at the developing stage. What some of you guys are most excited about, and what kind of performance and experience you guys are getting from your modded nexus'.
Cheers!

Welcome buddy. Pretty much the development is great. Just about every rom here is straight aosp and has no issues lol. Just make sure u read before flashing because not all roms are nexus s and nexus s 4g compatible.

I was wondering about that lol. I noticed there are 2 development forums now for both the GSM and cdma versions so it should be relatively easy. I just have to translate what I know from the epic to the ns4g as I'm sure they're somewhat similar when it comes to flashing them.

I doubt I will lol like I said I love this phone. The keyboard is awesome. But I'd rather give it up for a thinner phone I can put a case on and it won't feel like my old HTC tytn2. Also I'm sure the ns4g will be getting ice cream sandwich relatively quick. Also, where's cyonogen mod at with cm7 on the ns4g?

Cm7 is at nightly 95 for the past few days. Someone hacked something. I forget what but hasn't got anew nightly. However it's very stable.

CM7 is super stable and is at a code freeze so only small bug fixes are being made. The website for the Linux kernel source was hacked and until that has been verified no files were harmed no new nightlies can be compiled. Nightly 95 is the latest and is awesome.

Are you sure its the GPS that has issues or is it the compass? There is a known issue with the compass on the Nexus S. Not sure when it'll be addressed, but Samsung/Google are definitely aware.

Ive found that running cm7 without switching the kernel works best. I've been using nightlies for a week now with absolutely no issues whatsoever. Now before I would switch kernels just to overclock and that's when issues started arising. Try running your roms with the kernels they come with. Guarantee you a much better experience.

I love my wife's Nexus. I've got an Epic on SRF 1.2 and Genocide. I've done a lot of work to get it just right so that it's stable, fast, and gives great battery life. However, I can't do a lot of things with Go launchers and themes with it and stuff. Her Nexus is stock rooted, with the Go launcher and different themes, runs nearly as fast stock 1.0 ghz as my Epic running 1.2 ghz, and gets about the same battery life despite using a brighter screen setting.

I miss alot of things my epic had. Touchwiz, the multimedia capabilities, the camera, gorilla glass. I've yet to break 15 hours of battery life on my nexus. I've hit 35 on my epic. (Though I think its because I was able to shut 3g off and keep 4g on.) I never used 3g, so I'm sure shutting it off got me awesome battery life.

Nexus S is the bomb diggity. Love the ROM selection, love the screen though gorilla glass would be a plus. I use Zagg screen protectors on all my devices so the scratching isn't really a huge concern. I waited for the white Nexus to come to Telusplanet north of the border and I have never been happier with a phone. Definitely no buyers remorse here even after a month of use.

I just got this phone today and I'm all stock at the moment. Coming from heroc so even without root this phone is so much faster than the hero that really the only thing I am missing is the ability to take a screen shot to show it off online...yes I'm too lazy to do that through usb. Actually, I miss the notification toggles too but for now I'll live. I'm sure I won't last too long without rooting but I'll be doing a bit of reading first.

I'm loving my NS4G, coming from the hero. I'm rooted, running cm7 with Matr1x kernel, oc'd to 1.3. My only complaint is the external speaker volume but overall I feel great about this $30 upgrade. I think that it's worth it for anyone out there that doesn't need 'bleeding edge'.

I totally agree. I LOVE this phone. It's amazing. It runs everything I need smoothly and accurately always. It's one of the top phones on the market right now for it's price. New to the Nexus S 4g! Coming from the Epic 4g!

I cracked my phone screen today on my epic 4g and the sprint rep told me it had to be a 100$ insurance claim to get a new one but offered me a new phone/free upgrade instead so I picked up the Nexus S 4g!
Was wondering what the most stable rom with best battery life for this phone is.
Interested in BLN mod for sure, but besides that, just stable(minimal bugs) and one that drains the least amount of juice.
Thanks!
Welcome old fellow epic user I would recommend crossbone if u want ics it doesn't have bln but u can flash a kernel that supports it like galados.

Congrats for getting rid of that soul crushing phone.. I had the Epic 4G for close to a year and hated most of my time with it.. You'll love the Nexus S and like me should convince you to never buy any phone again that isn't a Nexus...

If she is giving the phone to you without any strings attached then definitely go for it! Its a no brainer! Lol As far as I know the camera on the E4GT is almost on par with the latest smartphones(one x, sgs3, iphone4s) or even just as good! The phone is a power-house(Exynos & Mali chip set) and the design is sweet! Take it and run!!!!!
