[ROM] OEX - Huawei Ideos X5 U8800

I don't have an u8800 but I did this for a friend.
I was unsure on whether to share it but oh hell, here we go.
This is Oxygen 17/08 + franco.Kernel 17/08 + Many tweaks I included.
So basically, Oxygen Express = OEX.
All credits go to dzo and whoever he credited on his own Oxygen thread
and franciscofranco for the kernel. In comparison to them, I did nothing.
Make sure to buy them a beer.
Main features (in contrast with Oxygen):
- EXT4 with proper mount options and no journalism
- Removed some applications (torch,terminal,download,talk,gmail,...)
- A thousand tweaks (no seriously, they are many, too many to list)
- zRAM enabled by default, Loopy Smoothness tweak, Auto-Zipalign
- Patched hosts, SE supl instead of Google, blah blah I'm tired already
Download:
Instructions:
- The usual.
Obs:
- It will format system, data and cache.
- Hint: switch to V(R) I/O Scheduler.
- There'll be no support, I don't have the phone, I did this for a friend.
- If you get stuck on boot, go back to recovery and use ADB to ls /system; if it's empty, well, it happens sometimes. Reflash.
- Don't thank me; thank dzo for the port and franciscofranco for the kernel. Moreover, if they want this thread closed, I will abide.

wow. just installed cm7 yesterday, will try this soon!

i'll try..thx 4 this noejn...

seems to rock it all!
will flash it soon!

Tried flashing 3 times after wiping data/cache/davlik doesn't boot at all..
Edit: On the 4th try and after waiting a while it booted! Will try it and report
Edit Again: 1st bug that i've reported at francokernel thread too is that hands free microphone is not working when you make a call. Unfortunately that's a big bug for me can't continue using it will flash some other rom..

3800 quadrant is kinda impressive. cpu at how much? thats after a clean install?

thanks very much ,i will try it later ,and i hope you can fix some bugs that all the third rom have in comman, such as wifi hot spot so on(sorry for my poor english)
and thank you again for what you have done to the X5 user

thanks , trying it now . Will post if there is any issue/bug .

''- Hint: switch to V(R) I/O Scheduler.'' wHAT do u mean by this?

I will try it now to see if works!

Ok...Flashed at 1st try, just did a quick quadrant @ 1.8 minMax and got a 3500... will further test today but seems that this is the pick for pure performance as is typical of Noejn work anyways... Obrigado!!
p.s (the antutu scores seem a bit low, especially Ram and cpu integer, @1.8 i got 3500 when i used to get 4k any ideas?)
p.s 2 (Wow... for some reason on my second round of tests @1.8 just had a 1000 points drop in both antutu and quadrant, strange.... Wich gov do u recommend Noej)

guys .. is oxygen still cant play 720p video ??? noejn , is there anyway to get it work ?? hard decode fail .

works for me until now no problems thank u!

Yep, my friend also told me Antutu dropped a bit.
Some of the tweaks aren't benchmarks friendly but as long as it is snappier (which I've been told it is), it's fine.

Anyone else having issues with android market app? it crashes everytime I try to install any apps.
Completely fresh install on a brand new phone (updated to b136 before installing this ROM)
Edit: Now it crashes when starting market filename: com.android.vending.

pretty cool mod!

i only got 6.9 mflops on my x10 benchmark!

Hello folks,
I just tried to benchmark my x10 with linpack and got only 6.8 or 6.9 mflops. is this normal, is there anything i can do to make it get a higher score?
I'm using the latest .435 firmware and rooted and have all the junk pps from the 'x10 junk apps' thread removed from my phone.
Thanks for any help.
How does the phone perform? Are you satisfied with it or does it lag considerably? A benchmark really means nothing other than bragging rights. If it feels fast and feels good then why worry about mflops?
Sent from my Delorean using a flux capacitor!
If you look in the developer forum just pick one of the ROMs and you will find info on enabling JIT
Sent from my 2.2.1 Beta4 using XDA App
My score for mflops is always around 39 and my highest is 40+

whether you updated via flashtool or through seus or pc companion, to optimize your phone is very simple especially if not wanting to root or install custom roms. download latest flash tool, once installed and up and running. make sure your phone is set on debug mode. connect to usb and plug into comp. though you may not want the apps that are in the custom folder. hit the customize button, you can remove them later. you will now notice that the optimize button is now highlighted in black. click on that button and let it install the files. This installs JiTv2 Files. this will bring mflops up and quad scores up. it however will not give very high scores. quad will be around 800-850 tops. mflops will be increased to about 20-30 maybe 35. notice on quad when running the rotating planets test. you might hit 33fps!!! instead of the supposed 30 that its only suppose to get. if you run neocore test you might only peg and 25-28. Good Luck!!
-OP
try running the test again after the unit has settled down (no activity for a while). you might get different results.

Hi SErooted,
thank you for your helpfull respond. i pressed the customize and then the optimize button like you said and the phone rebooted and the result was better. linpack now get about 32 and some change, quadrant about 757, and neocore about 21fps, shouldn't neocore get better frame rate than this?
can i get it even faster than this?
i have heard about clearing the dalvik chache when installing JIT for the first time. well i didn't clear any cache when i press that customize or optimizer button. did it do it automatically or do i still have to do it manually?
what i wanted was to have the interface and games run fluid and smooth. like no studder at all.
does the processor throttle down when the system is at idle?
should i overclock?
also, i have notice the video recording in hd mode have less studdering now. though its still there, but less. do you think it probably have anything to do with the memory card performance. i'm still using the stock 8gb that originally came with the phone.
My score for mflops is always around 39 and my highest is 40+

hello Michael7168,
thank you for your respond to my message. can you please elaporate more on your statement. is this an x10 you using? i would like to get this result too.
furthermore, i prefer not to use custom firmware at the moment as i use this phone frequently day-to-day and i need to have full functionality of it and reliably. custom firmware are still buggy and lacks some functionality of the phone that i still find usefull for my daily task. but if there is a better custom firmware that really does utilize all of the phone functionality, then please point me in that direction.

Hello xxcysxx,
yes neocore normally runs higher scores. round about 27-28 avg. i personally havent ran a stock firmware since right around mid december. i have alternated with a few and have finally settled on z.s 2.2b4. and have checked all roms available to find which is best. and custom firmware is sometimes shere you get the desired result. i have done some testing on my x10 with various settings and roms and will be happy to share with you what i have going on. my phone is very responsive. quad scores as of ten minutes ago was 2011 without having overclock widget installed. if yo install overclock widget and max out on screen and off screen min and max to 998mhz, you can achieve slightly higher quad scores. but really not needed if you follow settings below. i have a free app from market sysctl. it works!! not sure if you have read the thread on it yet but if not i will have to post there as i have found perfect settings for performance but at cost of battery drain. install if you have root, if not, the call to root is yours.
if interested.... download sysctl from market.

like i said performance not battery. i know for battery saving settings set these numbers close to what the default are. the lower the better battery, the higher, performance.
if you are really worried about daily performance and custom roms.... when/if you decide. i recommend eminence for 2.1 theme of your choice but i really dig bitsnackers theme its awsome and who wouldnt think a tron looking buzzlightyear isnt cool? its awsome. has a cool bootlogo too. all phone funstionality is there video, camera, flash. EVERYTHING!!
BELOW>>> Optimized, xrecovery, root<<<< ENABLED
if you are interested in a 2.2 rom which really does boost speed on phone and what not. i recommend z's 2.2beta4 as video is not working as of yet you might hold off. if you dont use video you should be ok with camera for now and that works. install gappsfreex10, z's data2sd, and theme of your choice. i like xfx10 cant remember name of creator (sorry) but this theme is great! all of theme are great to be honest this is just the one i use.
2.3 roms are out and they are snappy alone without having any adjustments, however there are things that dont work, camera is really the only thing i can think of right now. but by this time it might be fixed, cant say havent checked status but will when done replying.
you can install and run sysctl on these roms as well and gives great boost.
update: not sure if this is a result of sysctl or problems due to network overrun... mflops as of now are 3.2 i normally run 38+. Mmmmm, I wonder?
update 2: double checked after a little while and low mflops was due to network overload not settings. also once upon reboot from my settings i have a quad score of 2233. screen shot below. mflops picked back up but yet are not as high as usual 34.xx
as well to answer on dalvik cache... yes clear cache and also install cache cleaner from market. i have mine set to clear every twelve hours. when installing custom rom not always a case but recommend to wipe user data as well. a few minutes to reset your phone and make sure everything smooth is worth doing this. as well, clear battery stats.
either way, let me know what you guys think and if these settings help.

no video games or leisure activity involve. full day of work as in taking the phone off the charger in the moning and comming home around eight or nine o'clock in the evening.

i have a question about xrecovery.
are you familiar with bare metal restore, acronis true image, or norton ghost.
i use these software to customize my laptop for different occations. whether i use my laptop to play games with my buddies at break hours durring schools, or do homework assignments in the library, or other general work. all i have to do is lay the image at boot and i have a completely different pc. it can be any os using any software customize in anyway, and took about five to ten minutes to lay down the image.
now back to the xrecovery question. can i do a "full backup" or a complete snap shot of the flash of my current android os and then restore it back at a later time in the same state and condition it was in just before i left it?
this is just incase i might have a remorse when i try the custom firmware.
i put a lot of time in making all the settings and adjustments just to the way i like it and i prefer not to have to do it all over again.
I have another question about the JIT software.
how many jit versions are out there?
i'm using the x10 flash tool version 0.2.6 to install the jit software on my phone. do you know what version of jit was distributed with this flash tool version?
thanks again, your time and help is very much appreciated.

i always keep several older phones for camera use, or other things so this is always a good idea.

i agree in holding off, really overclock widget should be utilizes when operating stock 1.6. anything after that 2.1 2.2 2.3 their optimized with jit or are optimized enough without it

to my knowledge is has not been tampered with by sony, cant recall if the dev had placed any se apks in theme. but it is a great rom. so is blue sparks. if going 2.1 anyway. these are roms and not just themes overlay. so should be as open source as the dev made it.

yes you can. when in xrecovery, go to back up and restore. and backup. this will save all settings, phone book, contacts text message, everything! if not happy with custom software you have installed. just go back to xrecovery>backup and restore> restore. back to 2.1 software before the custom rom
I have another question about the JIT software.
how many jit versions are out there?
i'm using the x10 flash tool version 0.2.6 to install the jit software on my phone. do you know what version of jit was distributed with this flash tool version?
the JiT version that is with the new flashtool is JiTv2 i believe.. dont quote me on that. i believe it is as i have looked at the files in the optimizer and compared them to the copy of JiTv2 i have saved on my comp. to my knowledge, there is only two versions. again, dont quote me on it. i havent seen an chatter going on about newer versions so this might be all we get. not sure though

Sorry took so long to kget back to you. hope you catch this.
Sysctl settings really dont make large change in how fast all functions of the phone operate. most increase in performance for settings is shutdown and power on time. as well as a little better scrolling of menus.
basically running the 2.2 software from z or trip, adding the data2sd.zip will get you well into having quad scores of 2+++. if aiming for higher closer to around 3000. which i am very near doing. ill show when i have the proof not till then
anyway, getting mid 2+++ scores and higher, do require using something like set cpu or Overclock widget, in order to get your phone to run at top speed while doing the test..
after that run a test then another and so on until you have achieved what is perfect W/O for you.

i did tried the setting parameters you suggested earlier before your latest post and i found the improvement is not that noticable, but the battery did die very quick. i found the original configuration work just fine at this point.
i'm still doing some reading on the custom firmware to make sure i make the proper approach without any hickups. i still have a lot of school work to finish and a part time job so the custom firmware is moving along quite slowly.

hi, i already patched the script, then i tested the quadrant standard then i got about 1050 score lol... how do i know if i patched it right? by the way inside my init.d are the following: 00tweaks, 01apps2sd, 99complete. which one should i delete? im running the coderom v2x-2b rom...
Hatshipuh said:
I see now you put the script into 00tweaks.
I still don't feel any difference though, only that Quadrant dropped from 1800+ to 1700ish, but well... it's Quadrant
Another issue I have is with these changes it closes SetCPU from background after opening a game so I have to restart it manually, it happened with v2 too.

Thanks for your feedback!
appreciate it.
This script is a best of both worlds deal! better ram optimization+battery life!
so that's the reason for the drop!
as you said "Quadrant" is Quadrant after-all. ahha do the benchmark twice you will get a better score hah !
also yes 00tweaks thats true. ketu helped me in testing
not sure with why SetCPU is giving troubles! i will check it out.
if u really want to know the difference this script produces.
flash to FirstUA rom and then compare before and after installing the script u will definitely see a huge difference!
Thanks again for the great feedback.

This patch should overwrite your old 00tweaks with a new one.
So no need to delete anything.
Did you convert your file system into ext4?

Hahaha thought darkyy is female all along, my bad.
Female developers are rare though. I'd say 90% xda users are guys with gadget fetishes.

The default max cpu speed is 800MHz, change it to 1000MHz should help to improve the speed.
You may also try to change the model name in build.prop, pls refer to the second post in this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1048813) to improve game perforamce, I didn't test it myself though.

I don't have time to check the graphics yet, besides it is quite ok on my phone.
I've uploaded a new build, it should be the final release of CM 7.2, but I doubt there is much differences between the last build and the new one regarding graphics performance.
You can use Taitanium Backup to remove those app, regarding market app, once you install the google apps and run market, it will update itself, if you got trouble with the update, try clear the data and cache of the market app.

Gaming on stock kernel

GAMING (This post).
Added: THE RETURN OF ATIFROYO (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=29546400&postcount=14).
Added: TWEAKAGE (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30130560&postcount=23).
Gaming.
Let's face it. For some their phones are just a gaming console... that can also happen to make phone calls! For whatever reason you ended up with a Xperia X8, case in point: my younger brother.
I happen to have a knack for computers, he just cares about what they would do. So, this is my small journey trying to help him. Probably someone can benefit from it.
So, here's my experience with ROMs running on stock kernel without overclocking. Why no overclocking? For the life of me, I couldn't tell the difference, even tho I really wanted it to work.
I judged the performance on gaming running Fruit Ninja: Puss in Boots and Dead Space. Arbitrary, I know; but it has worked in determining how stable and fast a ROM would be. Dead Space was specially helpful in determining stability since some ROMs would reboot or would close Dead Space after trying to open a saved state. What's more, I would have a frame of reference to test the ROMs with what would prove to be two demanding games for the X8.
· Stock 2.1.1 doesn't run PiB. I don't know about Dead Space because at the moment I didn't even know about that game.
· FroyoPro 2.5 would occasionally run PiB, when it would open it would be lag free. Dead Space wasn't tested on this ROM either.
· GingerDX from v26 onwards runs both. PiB runs with a little bit of lag. Dead Space would become laggy at parts, tho it is quite stable.
After those three ROMs, I tried a few more, mainly Gingerbread ROMs. Most of them were quickly changed. The next are the few who lasted more than half an hour to an hour, also a few of the most popular oner, which are bound to bring up questions.
· FroyoBread v23b. PiB would seldomly open and it would be laggy. Dead Space wouldn't open saved states.
· KuyaDroid 4.5.4. Fast first boot... that caught my eye, plus the cool bootanimation. Dead Space was slow and wouldn't open saved states. PiB had some lags, but it was playable.
· XG!N V8 (LinuXperia Xgin v.0.10). This one caught me by surprise, my first thought was: "This is one ugly ROM"; however both Dead Space and PiB were for the first time fast. Too bad Dead Space wouldn't open saved states. On a second run of this ROM, I might have made a mistake. The ROM originally tested couldn't possibly be XG!N V8 (not the same looks), it probably is LinuXperia Xgin v.0.10.
Tests up to this point seem to leave no clear winner... until:
· AtiFroyo 5.2. Both PiB and Dead Space run smooth. Dead Space opens saved states. First boot is fast... That fast that it deserves mentioning. The only drawback is auto brightness. I like installing Lux Auto Brightness so my brother doesn't burn his eyeballs at night but it's rendered useless since autobrightness is always ON. I tried changing hw_config.sh values, but nothing. I even tried deleting the whole settings that are supposed to manage auto brightness and it would still be active.
My advice: if you can live with the autobrightness bug, use AtiFroyo. Hands down. Use x8toolbox to install the DualTouch modules without hussle.
So, what's my brother's phone running now?
He needs Lux Auto Brightness. So AtiFroyo is ruled out. A shame, really.
Here's the set-up, keep in mind that I want my brother to mess with the settings as little as possible:
· GingerDX v28b. Minus lots of apps (see: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=26683929).
· RAM Manager Pro. Balance is checked at all times. Couldn't tell the difference with the other settings. In fact the only difference I could tell while using RAM Manager Pro, is that when an app starts acting funny, it gets killed faster.
· Chainfire3d. With Reduce Texture Quality always ON. It makes even the games that don't need it run a little bit faster, or at least start faster. The only time you'll notice the difference is when there are gradients present.
· Zeam Launcher. It's a launcher. Seriously, if you only care for getting to your apps/games, this is the answer. For an ICS look go: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1558419. Word of caution: apparently what this modded version does, is pull the icons from the theme; so, if you're using, for example, the system theme the icons won't be the ICS icons.
The results of this set-up: PiB is not as fast, but playable. Dead Space is stable, some lags are still noticeable, but overall is playable.
A final note:
Thanks to all the developers here. You all pushed/discovered, and continue to push, the limits of what the X8 can do.
Who would have thought that some of the X8 phones had real dual touch capabilities?
This list/post is not, by any means, a final judgement/call on the ROMs on the forums. My brother has a very narrow specific use for his phone and this has been my experience trying to fill what he wanted.

Benchmarks only tell part of the story.
Which is why, for example, I should expect a considerable boost in performance from overclocking; but no noticeable difference.

You mean old, right? Then, the question would be old for what?
And if you paid atenttion, with the tests GingerDX came on top: it would open PiB every single time.

Saw that ROM but wasn't actually going to try it since the latest LinuXperia, the base of this new ROM, didn't passed the tests. Plus: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=27499552&postcount=241.
But I might give it a go this weekend along a few things.
There's this one ROM I would really want to try: LinuXperia Mika v9b. If anyone of you could hook me up with a working download link, it would be great.
PM'ed.
Since Alessio was disabled due to problems in paradise, I will send you the link by PM.
But as far as I remember, it was not so great in terms of batery or 2d/3d.
Also, he developped starting from XGin + Xperiafan, but lately he started to OC @691 and appeared is faster, but once you revert to 600 then is quite normal.
Also quite heavy on theme and colors.
Cheers,
The Return of AtiFroyo.
There. You already know how this post is going to end. However you may want to ditch RAM Manager if you're in it to play games. Wait. What?
In this second batch of testing, a few games come into play: Aby Escape, Ninja Fishing and the ARMv6 ported version of Sushi Chop. Fruit Ninja: Puss in Boots was also tested and runs more or less the same on all ROMs with the underdog being GingerDX.
The candidates? GingerDX v28b, LinuXperia Mika v9b (the one with amazing AnTuTu score), GingerCruzt Revision 8.4, LinuXperia FreeDom S1, VivoPrime V01 and AtiFroyo 5.2.
Let's start:
· LinuXperia Mika v9b. One more reason you shouldn't put too much weight on benchmark scores. Aby Escape and Sushi Chop are laggy to the point of making them unplayable. Aby Escape would just close when starting the actual gaming; had to reopen it to make it work. For Sushi Chop, phone just froze when trying to exit the game; had to reboot the phone.
· GingerDX v28b. Aby Escape would close when starting the actual gaming. No apparent solution. Sushi Chop, unplayable.
· GingerCruzt Revision 8.4, LinuXperia FreeDom S1 and VivoPrime V01. Why put the three together? Because they would perform on par with each other. Both Aby Escape and Sushi Chop would be playable. The edge on performance goes to GingerCruzt, which would be a little bit more responsive in Aby Escape. Now LinuXperia FreeDom makes my eyes bleed. So, in looks, the edge goes to VivoPrime. Also GingerCruzt is bloated with a lot of widgets, a few apps, and some manga and anime wallpapers I have no use for.
· AtiFroyo 5.2. Both Aby Escape and Sushi Chop are playable. The difference with the last three ROMs? Responsiveness. Aby Escape would get a little bit laggy in some parts just before a jump, costing you the game. In AtiFroyo, the lags are less frequent and briefer. Sushi Chop is also more responsive, resulting in cutting more sushi. Also, in the last three ROMs, Aby Escape would close if I played for a few minutes and then try to enter the in-game shop. Guess what. In AtiFroyo, it doesn't happen.
So, AtiFroyo is winning... and not in a Charlie Sheen kinda way. If it only weren't for the auto brightness bug, right? Well, now it's solved. Modify the hw_config.sh values in the ROM zip before flashing it. Done.
But if you just have to have a Gingerbread ROM for playing, I'd probably go with VivoPrime V01.
Where does Ninja Fishing enter into all of this? You won't play it. Here's the thing in all the ROMs, it would enter the game, but when you tried to actually start gaming by entering a level it would close. Enter Chainfire3d. In all ROMs but GingerDx, with reduced texture quality and size, you would be able to actually play the game until the end of the level. Then it would close. Winse and repead. The end.
Obvious question now is: can't I just change the looks of the ugly ROMs? Of course. The easy way is with themes. However most themes don't go that deep into the framework to change everything you might not like... especially some colors. Then, a stock look is preferable because its colors won't clash with most themes. Now, if you want you can go the hard way and modify the framework... Too much work.
That's all. Wait. RAM Manager, right? Don't get mad. Here we go.
Here's the thing. If you are with a Gingerbread based ROM, you might want to disable/uninstall it. How come? Remember when I said there was no apparent solution for playing Aby Escape? Well, the "apparent" part was intentional.
After testing GingerDX, I went ahead and installed GingerCruzt. After playing the games, I wanted to see performance with RAM Manager. Aby Escape would close when attempting to start the actual gaming with Balance enabled. Hard Gaming? Same experience. Hard Gaming (Less aggressive)? No luck. Déjà vu. Didn't this happened before with GingerDX? Which, by the way, had RAM Manager enabled? Let's first disable it, the game starts. Time to go back to GingerDX without RAM Manager. Confirmed. The culprit is RAM Manager. Aby Escape starts. Laggy to the point of making it unplayable, but it starts. Sushi Chop would cause less problems, but playing it would make you very angry.
Back to AtiFroyo. The games would behave the same with or without RAM Manager enabled. So, for now, no RAM Manager in the phone.
One last thing. What does AtiFroyo look like? Well, for sure it doesn't look like Froyo, it's modified to look like ICS. It even has a Sensified option... which I haven't tried. The font may upset some people, my brother likes it and I think it's got some flair. This is easily changeable, tho.
I might put some screenshots later to finish up this paid advertising for AtiFroyo...
... At least, I'm hoping Attis112 will give me something.
Well, as you stated, benchmark is not everything. But also playing games is not everything.
For some reason, on my device the one Rom with the best quality of sound into calling is FroyoPro 2.5. Also is the only rom who can score higher than stock in AnTuTu. that's why I allways go back to it when I'm tired of "trying out".
On the other hand , I tried the HoneycombFroyo also by Attis and it looks really nice but it has 2 problems: the backlight and the floating point which scores 17 ???? Please test AnTuTu on AtiFroyo and see if there is the same issue on variant 5.2. - maybe that is one cause also for lags....Anyways maybe I did something wrong when installed. I downloaded it from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1763389
Please let us know if is any way to improve it.
Cheers,

Sure: 146.
HoneycombFroyo is build based around MiniCM6 as AtiFroyo. There shouldn't be such a big difference. Tho, the file sizes certainly differ: 106 MB against 80.6 MB (including fixes).
If you have the time, you could try formatting cache, data and system. Then doing a full wipe and wiping the dalvik cache. Install the ROM and see if that does something. I had a nasty GingerCruzt problem that I could only fix by doing that.
As for the backlight, if you mean it's always ON, I can give you the propper values for hw_config.sh.
My nasty experience with the backlight was that it was allways OFF. I had black screen and no chance to see what's going on for seconds, and after several pressing of menu button finally backlight would be revived....But also, I downloaded a variant of AtiFroyo 5.2 of 100.9 Mb from a polish site linking to a hotfile link....since I did not find it in xda.
As opposed to this HoneyFroyo - also by attis - here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1449144&highlight=froyo
So I would appreciate if you could send me both: the link to your AtiFroyo 5.2 and the hw_config.sh (values of the file itself) - but I guess by PM because there must be a reason it was removed from XDA...
Thanks a lot,
Cheers

Interesting since both have the same hw_config.sh values. And, yes, I have HoneyFroyo downloaded but I haven't tested it yet.
Here go the proper values:
# lm3530 LMU configuration
dev=/sys/devices/platform/i2c-adapter/i2c-0/0-0036
echo linear > $dev/br::mapping # linear exp
echo 32768 > $dev/br::rate::up # 8, 1024, 2048, 4096, 8192, 16384, 32768, 65538
echo 32768 > $dev/br::rate::down # 8, 1024, 2048, 4096, 8192, 16384, 32768, 65538
echo 255 > $dev/br::limit # 0 - 255
echo 19.0 > $dev/br::fsc # 5.0, 8.5, 12.0, 15.5, 19.0, 22.5, 26.0, 29.5
echo 30,70,110,150 > $dev/curve::borders
echo 100,115,130,175,254 > $dev/curve::targets
echo high-z > $dev/als::r1 # high-z, 9360, 5560 .. 677.6 (see chip mnual)
echo high-z > $dev/als::r2 # high-z, 9360, 5560 .. 677.6 (see chip mnual)
echo 512 > $dev/als::avg-t # 32, 63, 128, 256, 512, 1024, 2048, 4096
echo i2c > $dev/mode # i2c, pwm, i2c_pwm, als, pwm_als, i2c_pwm_als, i2_als
Don't forget to change the values directly in the zip ROM before flashing it. And just to be sure that you won't get an episode similar to what you experienced with Honey Froyo, find the next value in build.prop:
settings.display.autobacklight=1
Change it to:
settings.display.autobacklight=0
Could you pm me a link to atifroyo? Just wanna test it out. Just curious. Thanks!

Hi,
I've been working on this kernel for some time with improving undervolting in mind. It's based on CoCore Refresh r10 by CoCafe and of course the credit goes to him where it's due.
Main changes:
- rewritten liveOPP internals.
It improved stability a lot - it now allows to use 300/500/700/900 MHz frequencies with no problem and it allows to undervolt low frequencies even more. Freqs >1GHz are now stable at varm=0x32 (at least on my phone), which also saves a lot of power.
Freqs <=400 MHz now use 0x12 (0.925V) voltage by default - It's the original voltage for 400MHz and you can go even lower when undervolting
- rewritten Mali booster algorithm.
It's far from perfect yet, but it eliminated instability due to the fact, that CoCafe's mali booster and "original" booster (switching between APE 50/100 OPP) were working independently and could cause a crash when the original algorithm switched to APE_50_OPP while mali boost was active. APE_50_OPP voltage is 1V by default (0x18), so when clock is boosted to i.e. 700MHz and it switched to 50 OPP, the result was 350MHz @ 1V, which mihgt be too low.
- allow to set APE and DDR OPP with liveOPP
echo apeopp=25/50/100 > arm_stepXX and echo ddropp=...
before the kernel would set ape/ddr opp to 100 for freqs above 400MHz
- allow changing ape_50_opp voltage
echo 0xXX > /sys/kernel/mali/mali_gpu_vape_50_opp
- make wlan/mmc boost tunables available through sysfs in /sys/kernel/performance/*
- Memory split changed to 2G/2G and switch highmem off - it's not needed with this split
- removed some unnecessary drivers and moved others to modules to reduce kernel size
- changed kernel compression to LZO
- 631MB available memory
- 7800ms kernel boot time

That's partition image - flash it with dd:
Code:
dd if=kernel.mk-r1-release.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p15
It's also good to create a symlink from /system/lib/modules to /lib/modules - it'll allow modules to autoload, enable modprobe to work and also you can use KoControl app to manage module loading.

GitHub
TODO:
- create a package for flashing with recovery and place modules (7MB) in /system/lib/modules instead of a ramdisk
- touchbooster has a bug that causes it to limit max freq to 1000MHz on boost.
- figure out how to enable setting of minimal cpu freq - now touchboost always resets it to 100MHz
- add interactive gov from Zwliew kernel
- create more power optimized, auto tuning 'foreground' governor (long story)
My voltage settings
(default kernel voltages are more conservative - set those from init scripts and test them for stability!):
100 - 0x0f
200 - 0x10
300 - 0x11
400 - 0x12
500 - 0x14
600 - 0x18
700 - 0x1d
800 - 0x24
900 - 0x28
1000 - 0x2f
1050..1250 - 0x32
Mali gpu voltage
Default voltage from CoCafe is way too high - idx0 vape could be just 1V since that's the voltage, when mali is running at 1/2 speed (200MHz by default).
My settings (for safety they are 3 steps higher than the lowest working voltage for given freq).
#0 - 0x17
#5 - 0x1c
#9 - 0x23
I don't overclock the gpu - my low index is set to 0 (200MHz), and hi (boosted) to 5(400MHz), which is the original mali freq. That gives mi 100MHz when working at half speed. I don't use any fancy UI effects, so it's enough - when not plaing a game, mali is only working at 100/200MHz and only boosts when loaded. Params:
boost_low idx=0
boost_low threshold=30
boost_delay 2000
boost_high idx=5
boost_high threshold=220
Default kernel settings are left unchanged - set those manually from init scripts.
I place the thread here because I'm not allowed to post in developer forums (<10 messages limit).

Wow. Thanks for your work, mate!
Most people are using CM or CM/AOSP based ROMs nowadays, but there are only a few people (like me) who still use Jellybean. So, I'll try your kernel very soon and I'll post a review after using it.
You joined XDA on 2010 and yet, this is your first post. That just doesn't feel right.. Anyways, keep up the good work, mate. :good:
Good to see another kernel developer for our phone! I'm on stock rom now, I will try it out

The code is on github and there's no problem with merging it with some cm kernel. When I'll try my with some 4.4 again (so far each one had something broken and didn't suit me), I'll probably do it

To keep it short let just say that I'm not a sociable type of guy... but when I have something of value, I try to share...
One more thing (most probably know it, but for those who don't) - 99% of "user experience" depends on the settings of governor, mali and touch booster - if you screw this up, no kernel will work smoothly. I had this problem with my first vanilla jb - it sucked as hell(ondemand), but when I set sampling_down_factor to 3-4 suddenly it was very smooth. Default gov params aren't always the best. Thats one of the reasons I'll try to write a governor that tunes itself and adjusts itself to the app currently in foreground - but that's just an idea and it'll take me some time to refresh all the math needed for it...
Anyway - enjoy the kernel.
Hmm I really wanna test this kernel, but I'm currently on Vanir
I definitely gonna follow your thread, it's good to know Janice is still alive and kicking

You can always ask rom's devs to merge my changes - it's just a few commits.
And how is that rom working for you? At the time I was checking up 4.4 roms each one of them sucked in a different way. Carbon was the closest (in fact it was the only one acceptable) to being useful (feature- and ui-wise), but it had some process spinning in the background and It was draining my batt (it was unkillable because it was a part of lock screen I think - the bug was known, but no fix available at that time).
If it's similar to carbon I might give it a try...

Well I use to be a Carbon die-hard fan before, but since the dev have got himself another device, so I just had to change rom.
And then I try Vanir. Surprisingly it's pretty stable, and we have official support by the Vanir team too.
Feature-wise its just as good as Carbon, but I kinda miss the pie, since Vanir doesn't have it.
And I think Vanir have a bit more features than Carbon do.
Anyway can you go lower than those cpu voltage on your OP? Or is it really not stable?
Mine's 1000 is at 0x2c, 800 at 0x20, and that's the lowest I can go.
And thanks for the gpu voltage :good: , I actually use that value now

It's a pity... but I understand that's only the S Advance branch of Carbon thats dead - the rom itself is being developed further?

Actually I didn't recheck those two and focused on lower freqs - these were the limits with older LiveOPP, but now I can go to 0x22 and 0x2c.
In fact, 0x24 and 0x2f are already undervolted values - original are 0x28 and 0x32. But every bit counts, especially on higher freqs.
Thanks for the tip
But what's more interesting - 900MHz works at 0x23 (didn't test that before - just took a voltage halfway between 800 and 1000)... there's something wrong with this ARM_100_OPP, but I don't know what yet... Will test the rest again later and post my results.

Yes, only for our device. It's not really dead yet.

Yeah, I could understand that. Too much of a hassle. Got to reinstall everything back again.
But you know, I always do clean flash, even with nightlies. Imagine backing up, factory reset and restoring everything in every 3-4 days.
But now I get really used to it

No problem man, thought that information would be useful to you.
Yeah, it would be really nice to go lower, especially on 1000 and 800.
I'm gonna test the rest, and later I would let you know the lowest working voltage that I can go.
And honestly, I have no idea about kernel stuffs :silly: The least that I can do is to play around with it

Anyway I got a question about gpu, lets say my mali low_boost is 400 and high_boost is 480,
does it use the two freq only or it use the other freq in between 400 and 480 too?
P.S. hey you could just spam in OT threads to get 10 posts

If you don't get random reboots/crashes than it is - when following my guide, the resulting voltage should be stable, but it isn't always so... I'ts just a starting point that can save you some initial crashes or the other way around - if it doesn't pass freq_jump test, then it isn't stable for sure

Only those two - three actually - also 200MHz (that is low_boost/2), but with ape_50_opp voltage, not the one from dvfs_config. There's not much point in doing any smarter gov because gpu intensive apps usually load it at 100% no matter how much power it has - they just have more fps then.

Hey, just letting you know, about opptop script, we don't have prcmu-qos folder in /debug. I thought maybe it have a different name, but I couldn't find ape_requirements and ddr_requirements. The others are working fine

I forgot... this feature was written by me, so it's available only on my kernel for the moment. But it's not really that important - it was more for debugging purposes for me, now I left it as informative.
I'm trying to build Carbon rom for out phone since last night... when/if I'm done, I'll patch the kernel with my stuff and push it somewhere. What is your kernel version? I think that both carbon and vanir use the same, or at least similar one.

Not really I't an old BMW F650 - only 48 ponies (of which some might have already died of old age ;P). But in reality you can do most of the fun stuff with as little as 125cc Anything bigger is usefull for longer trips/highways/trips with passenger/etc... I mostly ride small country roads and light offroad, so I rarely go over 100km/h, so no badass machine is needed something like 350cc would be best I think. Actually - it's not the bike you ride, but how you ride it... and on narrow roads with many turns a bigger bike is event sometimes harder to ride...
