Considering they can't even GIVE the HP TouchPad away, and Acer have struggled to make enough Iconia's to cover the demand, I'm kinda dubious about that chart's numbers.
I will believe people want the iPad, mainly due to advertising and people being morons.

I was about to post that yesterday. I don't think the chart is true since HP has not sold over 10% of its touchpads and I do not know anyone who even knows about the touchpad. If there was better advertising the Iconia might be farther up the chart.

+100000....

I question that graphs validity.
I find it very hard to believe that more people would choose the Playbook or flyer, over the Acer.

I agree with you guys. Both acer and asus have been struggling to keep up with their product demands. My gf had to wait a month to get her docking station for her transformer. And yet they put the asus and acer at the low end of the graph. Gee, I wonder who funded the study... Heck, even the moto xoom couldn't sell that well. Their vice president even said their sales figures have been "underwhelming".
I'll tell you this much. When I got my iconia, I had to drive out of my way to get it. I talked to managers from 3 stores. They got plenty of xoom. They couldn't supply enough iconias and transformers. And I wasn't the only one asking about them.
Edit.
This article is still bad news for the iconia and transformer, though. It shows that most mojos out there don't know anything except the word "ipad".

I also question this mainly because I really struggled to get my Acer in our country.
It only came in stock a couple of months ago. I had to get mine from Germany.

Well most people here in the US love Charlie Sheen, but I don't give a damn about it. So ok , most people want an iPad, but what they are buying is the important, and I see that Android is doing fine, even with all this fragmentation and all market issues (some have , other not). Of course iPad is right now the king, is a closed system, controlled by Apple, software, hardware, music, films, applications... But if Google repairs the damage done with the 2.1, 2.2, 2.3 android versions at the same time and the market fiasco, they gonna be the next king.
Right now at my home we have 3 tablets and 3 phones, none of the from Apple, but Android.

..but good news for android, which is all I care about. I calculate around 26%, not counting "other", which is good and will only climb.

If the poll on the right-hand side of this page (http://hcapps.blogspot.com/) is truly indicative, it seems the Iconia is DOMINATING the android tablet market!

Saw today that HP has killed it's TouchPad and by association WebOS (nee Palm).
http://money.cnn.com/2011/08/18/technology/hp_pc_spinoff/index.htm?hpt=te_bn3

You sure that list isn't about what people dislike the most?

The study used for this article only had a sample size of 1114. That seems kind of small.
Edit: actually that table itself is only based on 531 people.

Can you show me advertising push for the wifi only tablets, only time I see zoom is on tv with verizon
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA Premium App

It's amazing how biased that report is. It's probably as bad as how biased consumer reports has gotten.

Who came up with that poll????........ Apple

insane
The sample size that this poll is based from is a tiny fraction of a tiny fraction of a tiny group of a few people.
Would have purchased an ipad myself - but things like MicroSD, custom rom images, over clocked kernels, full size USB support, Adobe Flash support, and a truly hackable customized device kept me from considering the current apple tablets.
Sure, they move more units. That does not in any way mean they are "Better" units.
The simple fact is - i cannot be the only be the only person smart enough to compare features and check the specs before purchasing the product - but no one has ever and probably will never ask me to be part of any group of hardware owners that results in silly charts like this.

As a Best Buy employee, specifically with tablets, I can tell you this, in 1 week of my sales (we have to personally record every sale at my store, the info was easy to get):
15 Galaxy Tab 10.1
27 iPads
4 Acer Iconia's ( ran out of stock, could have ordered ~ 5)
2 Asus Transformer
2 Toshiba Thrive
0 Xoom (wifi or 3G)
0 Touchpad
0 Playbook
0 Huawei S7 Slim
0 Galaxy Tab 7"

So how many more would you have sold if you didn't run out? I'm guessing another 5 more based on another BestBuy metric -- go online and checkout their tablets sorted by bestselling.
1. iPad2 16GB Black
2. iPad2 32GB Black
3. iPad2 16GB White
4. iPad2 64GB Black
5. Iconia 16 GB
6. iPad2 32GB White
7. iPad2 64GB Black 3G
8. iPad2 32GB Black 3G
9. Coby Tablet ($180 7" tablet)
10. Galaxy 16 GB
11. HP TouchPad
12. Galaxy 32 GB
I guess this does measure something different than that original survey. The first is asking as much about name recognition. When asked to name a tablet, the most well known one will get named the most. But when you go out there and actually see what $180 dollars (Coby), $300 (Iconia), and $500 (iPad) gets you, the Acer picture changes a bit.

Nexus T?

http://androidheadlines.com/2011/05/rumor-10-inch-toshiba-tab-is-nexus-t-and-google-io-swag.html
what do you guys think? will this be the nexus tablet? i sure hope it is.. as i am still waiting a announcement from google i/o before jumping into XOOM...
i should had have my xoom weeks ago, but my supplier delayed me.. and now google io is just a week away, i sure hope they announce that this is the nexus tablet.
and i quite like the specs. (don't mind it being heavier and thicker).
it has HDMI port (i belive is full size, not mini), USB port, mini USB port and a dock port as well.
the only thing missing is a micro SD card? but if the USB and mini USB works, we can just plug in any card reader.
But it is ugly. As you said, thicker and heavier. I hate that silver thingie.
Oh my, i hope this is not google nexus tablet.
Website says it does have an SD slot.
I am curious what the retail price on it is. if it is above or below Xoom mainly.
i hope it isn't a Nexus Tablet. I mean the specs are pretty dam close to the Xoom. Its like the Nexus S all over again. anyone who has a tablet already has no reason to buy it. Now if it had a Tegra 3 in it and not a 2 then yes it would be something to buy. I mean the USB port is nice and all but really the Xoom has a SDcard slot kinda the same to me.
how about the battery life.
it suppose to be 3x better than normal lithium battery plus its interchangeable..
my concern is always about updates coming stright from google.
at the moment, xoom's update comes from motorola, not from google directly.
hence at the moment, i am holding off xoom untill after google IO....
Pretty positive that at I/O there will be welcome packages of either the Nexus S 4G and the usual T-Shirt. At the keynote, I think they'll announce that everyone's getting either the Galaxy Tab 10.1 or the Xoom.
All I know is that it is what I am getting, I just purchased the Xoom to hold me over until it was released, my return date for the Xoom is in June when this is to be released. I hate motorola products but wanted something to see what Honeycomb was like and since this was the only one worth getting at the time well the only one that was around.
Acer and Asus are worse than Motorola, have owned laptops from both and quickly disposed of them!!! I have three Toshiba computers and like them very much, plus the back of that tab can be replaced with different color backs just like a silicone case and that is the ONLY tablet with a removable battery!!!
This is the link to the tab's web site. http://thetoshibatablet.com/
hmm good point made in the comments over there ... both front and back cameras are in portrait mode... Honeycomb is made for landscape mode use...this looks like a potential 2.2/2.3 tablet... hardly a Nexus.
Doubt it's the nexus tablet.
Evo Better Than The Best...
i guess we just have to sit tight till google IO to find out. which ever it is, as long as google is going to provide the update, i am getting that.

Yea this is a really big indicator. Honeycomb's UI is almost exclusively made for widescreen landscape use, not portrait. Not sure why they'd have the cameras set up for portrait use.
No, it is a Honeycomb tablet.

The xoom although receive updates from Motorola but it has no custom skins or anything anywhere whatsoever. So, xoom or nexus tablet are both good choices. Plus, the xoom were given away at either CES or mwc by google. That proves the xoom is already one of the few chosen kids.

weird camera placement for a honeycomb tab then. very weird.
love the XOOM cameras ... they're both very very good.
I'd guess it is simply being called 'Toshiba Tablet' judging on the URL etc.
and why not?
Also with the Xoom being out and about - I can't imagine Google needs a Nexus X device for a tablet? wait till 3.1/4.0 for another Nexus device?

Acer's new quad core tablet, the A200

Acer launched a private video of their new quad core ICS tablet, and guess what, I got the link!

Update: Turns out that its the same old tegra 2 after all, with all the same feature of our A500 but lighter!
thanks for sharing! Looks like Acer will finally have their own tablet UI rather than vanilla. The buttons look nice, and the ring is interesting

I must have missed where it stated in the video that it was a quad core tegra 3
" Acer has spilled the beans on its upcoming Iconia A200 tablet in a melancholic promotional video.
The new tablet was spotted a few weeks ago by some keen observers over at androidcommunity.com, but now we can finally see it in action.
What sets the Iconia A200 apart from most upcoming Android tablets is that it is a rather frugal device, clearly aimed at the value market. However, it still packs a 10-inch 1280x800 screen and Tegra 2 processor, so it’s hardly underpowered.
The Iconia A200 also features USB connectivity, Bluetooth 2.0 and microSD slot. There is no word on the launch date or pricing for that matter, but it should end up on the cheap side."
http://www.fudzilla.com/notebooks/item/25013-acer-leaks-iconia-a200-tablet
" Credited for posting the video on YouTube, a French blogging site called iLoveTablette.com (English translation) offered a few more specs on the A200.
Powered by an Nvidia Tegra 2 processor, the tablet will offer 1GB of RAM and sport a resolution of 1280x800 pixels. Weighing just 1.5 pounds, the A200 will be lighter than its A500 predecessor. And it will be offered in a choice of two colors: black titanium or metallic red."

Got hands-on with one. Missing docking port, rear camera, and HDMI out. Also, no fake SIM slot. Front camera is centered on a long side instead of an inch from the edge on a short side.
according to all the posts and forums and web videos etc.. the A200 is Tegra2 i.e. dual core. The biggest thing about the A200 is it will come with ICS more ore less out of the box. It will ship with 3.2.1 but an OTA update should be available by ship date.

I had this tab for 48 hours. I have the 500 and 100 so I figured I'll take this for a test drive. I have to say its the best feeling tab out. The back is like butter. Performance wise nothing different. Custom widget is actually good. Screen appears to be better then the 500. The reason why I didn't keep it was no HDMI which I use while traveling to watch Netflix in the hotel. Or at home I sometimes will hook my tab up to TV and use my Bluetooth keyboard and mouse for internet TV. Or if it had a dock port that would have been acceptable. give it 2 months this tab will be 250-275 all day.
Just a side note while returning this tab I was able to get a open Sammy 8.9 for 350. Never thought I would like it and its pretty good. Especially since the mic works (with BT head set too) now I can Skype.

Asus needs to slow their roll n make sure all their current devices working properly..lmfao they trying to pump out new tablets left n right. This would make like 3-4 new tablets Asus is making.
All the french text says is that it looks like the Prime (TF201) from the front, and the back feels similar to the original Transformer (TF101).

Hmmm...maybe a redesigned prime with complete plastic backcover like OG Transformer? It'll be interesting to see what the specs are if this truly is a prime, internals wise. Either way Asus setting themselves up for more outrage from current owners if this is a truly redesigned one. First the tf-700 then now this...I'm sure an exchange program is in the works or something if they addressing the issues n redesigning the device. With it being under warranty, it be in their best long term interest to just replace sent in units with newer model ones. It'll cost them less in the long run. Will be keeping an eye out for further details on this.

Prime power button on top also.
Same place as the Prime.
Lytos was shopping their light field camera to phone/tablet makers. Any chance it has one of those?
well, i'm glad i got rid of my 201. if this is exactly the same, but cheaper and with good wifi/gps, i'll consider buying it
Based on the mention of GPS and improved design, it could be an updated version of the Prime to deal with the wireless issues. With the 7" at $249 and the TF700 at $599 it could make sense that the TF300 would be at $399-449 and have less features than the TF700 (and the current Prime). It would make no sense from a cost perspective for Asus to have the TF101, TF201, TF300, and TF700 all in production at the same time. My guess is only two will survive.
Here's the translation:
The deformation of another new Asus Tablet TF300T debut, is it new or improved supreme?
Well, so much to see in my colleague's sake, plus about addiction science and technology group, but fans were right XD.
What is this? The new Asus Tablet is it? Yesterday, my colleague from the strong to get information (colleagues from friends over there to get the message), as a concentric design. As confirmed to the model TF300T, coupled with Extreme deformation of the plate before the GPS, I think they would not be a simple flat deformation of the new color version of the Extreme. Well is a new product to either need a flat deformation Supreme improved design.
In addition, the above figure, there is some light to have a long white sheet, which is called the TF201's Extreme deformation of plates, is similar with the iPad 2 speaker design (refer to pure looks), but has now become a long I do not know whether it will still be speaker.
In short you can see, ASUS Android tablet is indeed spent a great deal of effort, the first half of this year, to see the TF700 and TF300 deformed plate, wow Woo, machine sea come, do not know this will not be on MWC happen? Oh Yes, Oh foundry for the Wistron. After the jump you can see the evidence (certification date is January 19, it seems TF300T should be listed on a fast?)
Okay, so, yeah, if ASUS comes out with essentially a Prime with a plastic backplate, then there will definitely (and rightfully so) be a ****storm. I can't imagine that they wouldn't at least quietly offer a trade-in program. I didn't feel that way about the T700, because it's a different device completely, but if this one is similar spec-wise to the Prime, then... well... yeah.
There had better be a program that offers a trade-in, or something in order to compensate for our "suffering" and money spent on a semi-faulty product.

If that's the final design, someone mentioned the absence of flash for the camera. If it's a lower-spec Prime and priced less, Asus could say it's not a different Prime but an entirely new model. Since price sells non-Apple tablets, it (to me) makes sense to leave the TF700 as the high-end flagship and offer a second value-based offering with a bigger price differential to compete at the low/middle end. From a production perspective it doesn't make sense to offer a $399, $499, and $599 10.1" tablet. A $399/449 mid-range tablet and a $599 high-end tablet would represent solid and competitive 10.1" tablet offerings. It would also align with the killer $249 price they've put on the 7". All pure conjecture of course.
One thing is for sure, Asus driving everyone crazy with all these new tablet announcements very similar n spec to Prime. Seeming like Asus just don't give a @?!#&..lol. and covering all corners of the market to increase their sales/profits. Unless a trade in option, ill be keeping my prime. These new ones don't entice me to want a new device. People with problematic ones, I can understand.
This is in no way a downgrade to the prime! It has to be an upgrade with that new RGBW cmos sensor and not require a flash... Everything else is in the same place as the prime....
Other than the backplate it is just an upgraded camera! Unless it has something hidden we can't see...
But this is odd.. Maybe someone just put a skin on their prime lol! And forgot to cut the camera hole

Amazon's pre-orders are sold out, you have to wait for the next shipment.
This does look like a great tablet at an amazing price.
However I will wait for the tablet to have a 2gb ram instead of 1gb. Using a fully customized TF101 with LWP and other widgets keeps the ram at 600-700 and using a browser like overskreen does push it close to the limit.
Also, I will have to deal with the problem of selling my TF101 with dock if I do plan to get another tablet.
Does anyone know if the original dock will work on TF300 ?
I was under the impression that the TF300 is going to be the low end device of their new tablet lineup. Hopefully, it does better than the Prime at launch (as in no Wi-Fi issues, glitchy GPS, etc) . I'm more interested in the Pad Infinity, but only if Asus solves the software problems on the TF101 first. Otherwise, I can't say I'm too confident in their firmware with ICS.
I would also doubt highly that the original dock will work with any of these, but I suppose you never know -- they might be nice to us (yeah, right!).
TF300
You mention software issues with the TF101. Could you elaborate as I don't think I have any but may have missed them.

Some people are experiencing random reboots and other stability issues after upgrading to ICS.
Im quite sure they said the new devices will NOT be compatible with previous docks, and will have their own docks.
But if it will be compatible with any previous dock - it will be the TF201's. TF101 is too old, and I do believe they have stopped production of the dock as well (at least, a lot of stores here in sweden has stopped selling them and wont receive any new shipment)

And unless you root right after getting the TF101, the ICS update will be force fed to you and then all these issues of rebooting, freezing and apps force closing will ensue.
I'd wait for 300, may be the Wifi/GPS issues they had with prime will be fixed and she will be root and overclock friendly tab .
I do like the back of it!!!

From the leaks to the media, the 300 looks to be a 201 clone with plastic case, slower soc but longer battery life. After seeing excellent performance of the fully functioning gps dongle on the prime, I have high expectations on the performance of the 300.
Hmm.. should Asus call this the Spartan 300, meager and mean?
Damn it. New phone comes first now(EVO 4G LTE).
I really dont have a problem waiting though. Very curious to see how win8 tablets pan out in the next 10 or so months.
After seeing the new intel ultrabook concept. Very interested.

That does look nice..
I am in the same boat..
New phone on the cards..thinking of the HTC one..
Then am giving the tranny to the parents for thier trip once they arrive from Australia up here to China..thus leaves me in a bind..
Can't go iPad, prime just isn't enough of a step upwards for me at this stage..the 300 looks interesting..but the 700 if it actually does as it is billed to would be enough to keep me happy for 5-12 months..
O what to do...
sent from yet another MikG HTC Evo

Who's getting one and why?

Hey all
HTC has hit us with the latest "Nexus" tablet, the Nexus 9. It's a bit different from other tabs being released atm, It's gone down the apple route with its display ratio, a 4:3 number. I can see the benefits of this for ebooks and PDF's etc, but have we all got used to the 16:9/16:10 ratios of most android tabs? Both have their pros and cons, thoughts?
We also see a Dual-core processor, something that is different as most tabs now tout at least a Quad-Core affair, would this be a major factor in the decisions made when considering this device?
Its great to see HTC back in the tab game, i for one hope to see more, maybe with the sense UI:good:
So, who will be grabbing one of these?

I'll be getting one! Well, don't under estimate the processor, were talking Tegra K1 here. It did even beat the 2012 Mac Pro in single tread test.
Because it's a nexus ! Great development! To many to list
That Dual core Denver K1 is the most powerful processor at this moment
The scary thing is even it runs way low clock speed to what it is capable of(2.3Ghz>3Ghz),it still out perform Apple's A8 chip on both single thread and multi thread
And dat the GPU it is just pure massacre
The only thing disappoint me is the storage, but I'll get a otg flash drive to see how it works
Me and laptop replacement
I've got a 32GB white one pre-ordered. I've been wanting a ~8" tablet for a while now. This being a nexus device and the best SOC available atm made it an instabuy!
simply its a NEXUS 9
and its the best + i need an upgrade from my nexus 7 12
I have a tab 12.2 right now and it's just to heavy haha. The nexus 9 is like 50% lighter than the tab pro 12.2
I preordered mine (32 gig white version). I'm getting it for two reasons:
- My 2012 Nexus 7 has run its course. It's too laggy and slow in every task.
- I was waiting for a true upgrade spec wise, and the Denver Tegra K1 ticks all the right boxes:
ARMv8 based cores with 7-way superscalar and in-order execution. Even ARM's cortex-A57 is no match for this, which means qualcomm needs to design a new core in order to catch up with nvidia and apple
GPU performance currently unmatched in the mobile space. The Geforce ULP in the previous Tegra chips was terrible and an outdated architecture. Kepler is a huge upgrade.
I need a tablet mostly for the consumption of PDFs and other documents for work. Up to this point, the iPad was the ideal device due to its 4:3 aspect ratio. Now I have a large high-end device to go with since I do prefer the Android ecosystem over iOS.
I also do not have a tablet at the moment, so might as well spend on a device that would be my main device.
My first tablet was an Nexus 7, then I made the move to an iPad Mini, then back to the N7 2013, I have no tablet atm... But the N9 has a decent sized screen. Is made by HTC and Looks good, so yeah, I'll purchase one.

Well, I always had iPhone's up until the 4S was released, was then I switched to Android (S3) - As for tablet, it was easier for work having an iPad as I couldn't use a rooted Android for work.
I always used to say "If Apple built a bigger iPhone, I'd probably switch back" but I haven't seen the need. Not an Apple lover nor hater, to me an iPhone/iPad are superbly built devices, it's all personal preference. There is still Apple products in my household, I just choose not to use them. (except my Macbook)
Android and iOS= its like Liverpool and man united (love Liverpool and f&%£## hate man u.
Never used iOS or even want to! Would feel like I cheated on the Mrs!
Long live android
Just being honest. ?
Bug!
ordered the 16gb black model cause although i loved both n7s they were a bit small and i find i used them for 90% non-gaming/video watching so 4:3 is very appealing... also really like that htc is involved because of their build quality..

Well done! See you around
Got it for the 4:3 ratio. I read on my tablet 90% of the time and this screen will be ideal for it.
Other reasons...Android is the best OS for tablets hands down as far as I'm concerned and this comes with very little bloat. Lots of development support. Battery life should be great. Speed, it will be fast as hell, expect zero lag. I think this will be the (near) perfect tablet for me.
