Verizon PRL Hack - Just Don't

I don't know how many of you have been kicked off for this (doubt anybody has as not one of you that do use the hack have ever potsed about it finally working) but please stop doing it, all youre doing is upping the costs for everyone. To get kicked off the network we all know you have to constantly roam (excessive roaming) however Sprint will still check and require proof of address to have your ETF waived, once they see you're constantly roaming in a coverage area you will still get stuck with the ETF. Just a heads up, we all complain about prices going up but there's also tons of people that participate in making costs go up.

I don't know about anyone else but I've been using this hack for months and don't have any roaming data. I know it's working or doing something because I notice a great deal of improvement in coverage.

Sprint's data service is so bad that many find it as essential. If I pay $10 for a PREMIUM data add on, I expect premium data not 200-500 kbps. I've yet to do the PRL hack but everything is so damn slow. Downloading apps used to take a couple of seconds now it takes a couple of minutes.

I'm not talking about the speed, I have horrible speeds too for the past 2 months, i'm talking about people using it to get kicked off.

He's talking about people that use it to get out of paying the etf...for instance they download torrents 247 just to get excessive roam instead of just using it for Verizon coverage...I read it pretty clear, don't know what's wrong with everyone

i kinda agree but then again i understand why they are doing it been fighting with data speeds to the point i thought about doing the prl hack to get released from my 5 phone contract

I just hate to see good things come to an end because of a select few. Prices are going to go up, no doubt, but there's no sense in having them go up faster. It's a lose-lose situation. Customers get less for their money and employee's get less (benefits).

so, what you're bringing to my attention is that there is a way to get out of my contract without an etf?
this is news to me and probably several others. I had no idea there was a vzw prl hack. can you explain in great detail how this is done and what I should search Google for?

Or you can educate them that by doing this hack you won't be let go ETF free as proof of address is still required to have ETF waived.

Although I see where you're going with this, we are a very small percentage of the Evo owners. And a smaller amount of rooted Evo owners that actually user this hack. I know quite a few Evo owners that don't even want to root their phone, one of them being my wife. If Sprint set their plans up like TMO, where I could bring a paid off phone to their network and pay less monthly since I wasn't on a subsidized phone then it would different. Rates are determined partially about how providers will recover phone costs, and that is the ETF (obviously), but what about all the people that have paid there phone off by contract and continue to pay the same rates. This came to my attention, or rather opened my eyes when I wanted to add my daughter on our family plan with a blackberry that I had laying around. And even though it was paid off, it still required a 2 year activation..WTF...i didn't understand when I wasn't buying a subsidized phone, since I wanted the ability to shut the phone off for grades, behavior, etc. I mean why would I be responsible for etf for a phone that wasn't subsidized. I wish a plan similar to TMO would come to other providers.

You can start a line without a contract if you bring your own phone, don't let anyone tell you any different.

I encourage you to call Sprint yourself and clarify that. That is not the case when adding a new line. I can activate a phone under my line and not affect my contract, but adding a line is different.

Where is everyone?

I found it appropriate to kindly ask, where is everyone that was hating Sprint 2 weeks ago? Funny how phones change peoples minds, even if service in their area still suck. I can't see myself paying a company that doesn't cover my area just because they have a nice phone, but I guess if you like being tormented enjoy the new phones! I sure will.
And to clear some things up, my area sucks for Sprint service as well, I drop every single call inside of my house if im in my living room and Sprint doesn't give employees free Airaves

Well, my speeds have gotten better in some areas, so that's why I'm not complaining anymore... and I can't really beat $54 a month...though, virgin mobile's new deal looks pretty good.

Sprint loves me as far as coverage goes, and always has (I've lived in Los Angeles since I've had Sprint).

On other carriers? So what, we're all supposed to be happy now even though many of us still have crap data speeds because Sprint came out with a new phone? Dont get the logic..I mean if our data speeds had gone back up hell id be the first one on here rejoicing.

I am so pissed about this whole losing my upgrade that I've been saving since December knowing more great phones would drop in Q2.

I just got off the phone with retentions (i was very civilized on the phone) not only did they completely stonewall me on the upgrade, they were delighted to terminate one of my lines and bill me an etf.
I will definitely let my contracts run out, shop the competition and if I do stay with sprint I sure-as-**** won't sign another contract.

Well i didn't complain about it on here, but my speed at full service near my house were 150kb max, now that upgrades are nearly complete im feeling the love of 1.6 -2.1 with 75 ping on 3g and 12mbps all day long on 4g

I've seen that before, but I never tried it because I'm already getting a total 30% off of my bill. Really, I was just messing with Shrooms. I get a 5% "courtesy" discount on my bill because I called them once *****ing about something or other (this was years ago; I don't remember what my complaint was) and they offered this to me as a consolation. I also get a 25% discount because my employer is under Sprint's list eligible companies that they give discounts too. So in total, my $69.99 plan comes to $78.49 including the $10 data fee, the $7 for TEP, and all local taxes.
I have no complaints.
Oh, and I've been with Sprint since 1999, so I get all my Premier benefits. My plan is so old, that I still get the first incoming minute free. lol Anyone remember that?

...informing me my account was being cancelled for excessive roaming data usage. I knew it was being throttled and it's why I'm switching providers and already have a phone with a different provider. I wasn't abusing it, but when sprint changed the terms of their service agreement when I got my evo it put me in a bad spot because I work in the mountains of CO 2 days a week and have a lot of down time to watch videos. Previously, my grandfathered SERO plan had no restrictions on data usage. 10 years with Sprint and this is the call. Awesome.

Some will tell you this is a blessing.

You're right, you are now because you're with another provider (and they all do except att that just doesn't have unlimited)
Sprint doesn't throttle phones.

I sort of want to be canceled because I want to switch to Verizon or AT&T.
I know how to do the Verizon prl. My question is, are they making you pay an ETF? And, if they cancel you, do the do anything with your ESN? Will I be able to sell my phone to cover the cost of a new phone on another provider?

Just a regular sprint one, I think I was on the 190.001 or whatever the number was. If that's not the one you were talking about either way I didnt do any of the semi-shady flashing anything to Verizon.

Unfortunately they dont make you pay an etf although they should make you pay extra for every KB of abuse.
Hopefully they lock down your esn so it can never be used again.
You want out of contract? Be a man and pay the etf.
No one made you sign the contract but you.

Maybe I wasn't being throttled. Up until 2 months ago when I was out of normal coverage I could still watch things on megavideo. Within the last 2 months all of the sudden I cant even get data coverage that is fast enough to sync my email without timing out. This area is covered with a Verizon 3G signal. This has happened with 2 different EVOs on stock ROMs and steel H rooted rom as well as myn's 2.2 RLS5 ROM

I know nobody made me sign the contract. I could pay the ETF. I just don't want to. That's the beauty of America. I don't have to do anything I don't want to, and there's a way around everything.

I think this isn't even remotely directed at me (I see who you quoted) but on the chance that it is... I wasn't doing any of that and am not under contract with Sprint and haven't been since December. Before I got my EVO and had a winmo phone my grandfathered SERO plan had a $5 option for data roaming while off the sprint network as long as it didn't go above a certain percentage of your usage, which it shouldnt have ever anyways because unless I'm snowboarding or exploring CO I'm not off Sprint coverage more than 2x a week

I'm going to bold what I'm about to say because you need to understand it.
This behavior right here, your behavior, is the PROBLEM.
It is EXACTLY WHY carriers get away with throttling and limiting and ****ing the customer.
It is EXACTLY WHY there is always a new law to bend people over even more.
You're not just ruining it for Sprint customers, you're ruining it for everyone in society and the day this is understood is the day we might actually be able to mature as a people.

If Sprint stops providing coverage in your area then they have to waive your ETF and that is a separate issue.
However, if you sign up for Sprint and you use the coverage and then just decide you don't want it anymore and therefore are going to abuse your way out then you can honestly go jump off a bridge.

Question for Sprint Employees

I was looking at my account today, and realizing that between my wife and I we use VERY FEW minutes altogether.
The overwhelming majority, and I am talking about 90-95% of our calls are either off-peak or mobile to mobile.
What I am wondering is what is the best way for me to go about lowering this bill. We have 1500 minutes, plus all the unlimited stuff Sprint offers.
I want to keep the unlimited Data, but am not terribly concerned about anything else.
Ideas? Anything at all would be greatly appreciated aside from calling me names and questioning my humanity

I'm not a Sprint employee (soon to be one), but I have found that the 1500 minute plan is the cheapest plan that includes the mobile to mobile talk (I looked into this a few weeks back for myself) and found that there's not really any other options. There is no plan less than 1500 minutes that includes data and text.

If you want to keep data, text messages then you are on the best plan for you two. Trust me.

Yup, I'm with the other guys as well. I'm on the exact same plan for that reason, and we don't come close to using 1500 minutes, even though we don't have a landline.

I work for Sprint corporate and I hate to say it, but the $129.99 Shared Everything Data Plan 1500 Minute one is the lowest plan you may have if you have one or more smartphones or one of the 3 Samsung Instinct Series devices on your wireless account with us. If you don't already have an NVP discount on it, you may wish to stop by one of our retail stores to inquire on how you may qualify for one of these discounts.

From another Sprint employee, this is true. You'd be surprised how many ways you can get a discount. AAA membership, student id, credit unions... Pretty easy. Had a girl come in that worked for a local restaurant chain that got 15 % off. You never know.

Whosdaman helped me get my AAA membership discount, any other person I called at sprint were like no I have to work for AAA to get the discount.
I save 13 dollars every month,its not much but helps

Ok...I have a question ... my roommate works for Citibank and I found out she gets 27% off with sprint....so here's what I wanna do..
I saw that there's a 700 minute family plan for 70 bucks a month....but its just basic phone service... then I saw that getting a "pro data pack" is just 30 dollars more....so I'm gonna try and ***** my way out of my contract...give her my epic to activate with her new account and I can get a e4gt....$70 family plan + 30$ pro data pack + $20 (2 4g phones) and still have all the data and messaging we need for around $120 after taxes.....
Does my plan sound good??? Or is there some hiccup I'm gonna run into??

So, is there anyway to get an employee discount w/out having to agree to a two-year renewal?

the 30 dollars for data is "per line" i believe. not the whole plan for 30 bucks.

I need to look into this..... its offered with family plans so I'm gonna cross my fingers and see if this works between classes Tuesday

Yeah, you can get any corporate discount without having to sign a new contract. You should be able to do it through your employer (or where ever you get your discount from) and it will take effect without a new contract.
All else fails...call Sprint and have them work it out.

I've got a Citibank discount of 27% off, but it's only on the main line and my bill is still $178/month on 1500 minute shared. (I have 4 lines total.)

Summery:
The phone will primary use wifi for voice and texting and if no wifi is within range it will jump over to the Sprint network for voice, texting, and 3g data (no data cap). I guess you will need a CDMA android phone. Not sure yet if you have to buy a special phone from them but I'm sure someone will come up with a rom to flash to a Sprint android phone.
If this is all true it would be great to have one phone number, text, and unlimited data for only $19 with VoIP! I'll sell my G2x and find a phone that will work on this in a heart beat.

I think I'm going to get one. If the phone if just an LG Optimus maybe someone can help me dump the ROM and flash it to a normal Sprint Optimus so you don't have to buy there phone.

From what I've read, you need a phone with special hardware sold by Republic, and judging from the picture on the website, it's probably going to be the LG Optimus S/V.
If it pans out and works like they say it will, I'd considering switching from Virgin Mobile. I'm already using the Optimus V, so it wouldn't be that much of a change for me.

I wonder how much they are going to charge for the phone?

BUT, I have a feeling it will be relatively well. But I want to see their off-Wifi plan in details more.

Thats not bad AT ALL! of course i don't have the $200 for a new phone, but I do have a sprint branded lg optumus. I hope there is going to be a way to flash over our own phones.

$19 vs $55 a month. Maybe by a pay per day plan and some minutes with a few megs of data.

The pay as you go plan is 50 cents/day for unlimited web, only on the days you use it. It's 20 cents per minute for voice calls, but if you froze the dialer (or never used it) and didn't give out the Boost number, voice would never get used.
Since GrooVeIP will work over 3G or Wifi, your max cost per month (after phone and GrooVeIP) would be $15.50.

Sounds like a pain in the ass compared to Republic Wireless's option just to save $3.50 a month. Why do people love there iphone so much? It's easy.
The current phone offering and Sprint network is a deal breaker for me, however.
