I want to contact Samsung!!!! - Galaxy Tab 10.1 General

Hi everyone.
Recently i have updated my galaxy tab 10.1 wifi to touchwiz ux. I haven't rooted my tab, so i got all stock roms.
The tab was so so good and smooth before touchwiz. I was playing any video format with the stock video player. After updating to touchwiz, i got "sorry, this video cannot be played" for mp4 videos. So, the touchwiz has removed the video support.
Can anyone give me the site or email to contact Samsung support and ask them:
Will u roll an update to resolve Touchwiz bugs?
Thanks,
Sultan,

Just shoot a tweet to Koush. I heard he got a sweet gig there.

Try the number in the link that JYE75 posted. I find it surprising that you're having problems playing videos after Touchwiz.... my 2nd Tab (3rd one is on the way) played those types od videos with no problems both before and after the update. Hope they get it resolved for you.

I love Samsung for quick and easy support... have you ever tried to get something from HTC?

By the way, your "bug" is "working as intended".

Not sure what HTC support is like for carrier phones, but the couple of times I had issues with my N1 they had overnight cross-shipped replacements to me without any complaint.

Koush got hired by Samsung too? I didn't know that, I know that they grabbed Cyanogen.

not sure why it is not working for you? I converted a bunch of videos to mp4 before touchwiz update. After the update I removed RockPlayer because the stock touchwiz video app played all my videos flawlessly, including the ones I converted for 5.1 surround sound...

OP is correct. It was widely reported that TW update won't play certain H.264 video encoded with certain profiles which plays fine in 3.1 non-TW ROM. Check the earlier TW threads and you will find all the complaints there. I suspect Samsung will roll up any of these fixes into next ROM updates instead of releasing a quick fix. Of course, next ROM updates will also come with new bugs.
EDIT: see this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1203895&highlight=touchwiz+h.264

Ironically my experience is exactly the opposite of the OP. I often received the message that a video couldn't be played on my Tab. I had downloaded 3 other players to be able to play all the video I had.
Once Touchwiz installed that went away and it will now play all of my videos in the supplied video player.

Incredibly smooth Hong Kong version of the Hero

HTC just announced the Hero in a press conference in Hong Kong today. Given the support of traditional Chinese interface and an incredibly smooth interface, it is very likely that these demo Heroes are running the future firmware that Slashgear reported would be available for download very soon.
Take a look at the series of videos below (they are not taken by me, I didn't attend the event):
Look at how smooth it is when scrolling through the contacts:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CABaEfQNqL0
Browser:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4eoTT74obss
Smoothly moving between different home screens, no lag at all:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LcwbBjEsyxg
Some more:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OtsPVXJyLtA
Hero will be on sale in Hong Kong in early September. More or less coincide with the reported timing of the availability of the firmware update(s).
Update:
According to this website
http://www.eprice.com.hk/mobile/talk/?prod_id=3402&tid=29166
the camera app now supports iPhone 3GS' style Tap to Focus function, and adjustable ISO (up to ISO 800)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CXemcWjMYeQ
Does this update improve video because like all HTC devices its crap
Maybe you're not doing it properly. Videos encoded for iPod Touch profiles work perfectly on my Hero.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LcwbBjEsyxg
And it seems they have improved the flash support as well:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WrRmZCuPjuo
BTW when is this coming to INDIA!! OMNIA is already launched here!!
Definitely MUCH smoother. If you look at how fast the Messages and Mail widgets refresh, you'd see that this firmware works a lot smoother and faster. That said, it does leave me wondering if it will suffer from a slowdown after a day of usage.

That video was dated August 12 and the interface was in English, it was NOT running the Hong Kong version of the Hero.
BTW, double clicking the flash element on a website to enable full screen flash typically speed up flash performance a lot, because it enable the phone to ignore other parts of the website.
Are you saying that the HK version of Hero does not have English? I find that a bit hard to believe

It has. But all the Heroes in that press event were set to the Chinese interface (if you want to waste your time saying that someone switched it back to English, go ahead). The date of the video shows that it wasn't the HK version (if you want to argue that that could be a leaked version, go ahead).
So what's the conclusion? The HK firmware is just BLISTERING quick but no idea if Flash is faster?
According to this reviewer who attended the event and talked to people from HTC:
http://www.eprice.com.hk/mobile/talk/?prod_id=3402&tid=29166

He mentioned that HTC Hero support Flash Lite 3.0, but the performance was not that good when playing youtube video on its desktop website (i.e. not using the youtube app). HTC response was that the version of Flash Lite provided by Adobe for cell phone is not very good, and the flash support is mainly for displaying flash animation on websites.

cheers for the tip, did a couple of conversions for ipod touch in Xilisoft and the video is indeed excellent now. No stuttering
hmmm... I tried HandBrake and the encoded video using the iPhone/iPod Touch preset looked great, gave a far smaller file than I had previously, but still stuttered.
Using the stock 2GB card.
doesnt seem like it really faster than my hero mines scrolls as fast as that one
is there any leak of this firmware, there but be leaks somewhere if they allready have them built on the phones...
Holy crap that is looking smooooooth and faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaast. Can't wait to install this onto my Hero.
EDIT: Would have liked to see the software keyboard in action though - one of my biggest gripes is the intermittent keyboard lag/keystroke delay
BTW, the hardware specification of the HK version Hero is the same as the European ones. According to the user manual available on HTC HK website, the product ID is still HERO100 (North America GSM Hero is Hero130, CDMA Hero is HERO200). So once the HK version is released (Sept 1) and someone dumped the ROM it, it can be installed on current Hero without too much problem. Of course it would be much easier if HTC releases the firmware update on the website.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hK8c9Bs581I here's a clip of how smooth video play back is now. I really hope they improve the format compatability to include avi and wmv.
maybe thats a custom made video meant to be seen by the customers only and make them feel that the video play back is good...anyway if this is actually working under the update then i really wish for it to come tomm. as promised...but promises are meant to be broken! fingers crossed!
BTW aany info when HTC is launching hero in INDIA?? its released in hong kong now..so it shud be coming soon here as well...but no date!
I have to agree with the person that said the smoothness isn't mindblowingly better in that version. My Hero is about as smooth if I wait for the clock animation to finish before starting to swipe back and forth. Same with web browser, depending on web site, of course...
My contact may be a tad more stuttery, but I have photos for many of my contacts and it seems to slightly slow down every time a photo contact comes up...

"Flash isn't hardware accelerated"

Just wondering, where does this come from? I've seen this in multiple threads now, but have never seen any official source?
I read this somewhere on a reputable blog can't remember which one. That is why it is still beta apparently.
Adobe hasn't pulled the trigger on tapping into the hardware yet.
semi related question but I don't feel like creating a thread for that : Is Flash included in the FroYo update ? I thought it would but I just installed Paul's pre-rooted FroYo update, and I don't seem to have flash :-/
It is not included. But it is supported. Go to the market and search for it. Then download it.

Can you link where this was posted?
Again, I've heard this so many times now, but I've yet to see where this information is coming from!
I've mostly heard it from interviews with adobe people, and presentations of the beta from months ago.
A quick search brought this first link up.
That might change with the formal launch of Android 2.2, when handset manufacturers use hardware decoding for Flash. In the beta, it's done through software.

Even on computers, flash isn't tapping into hardware. It's the reason people hate flash. It's a huge resource hog as it calls on too much ram and cpu instead of asking for the graphics side of the computer.
Yup, that's what I read. Beta = software only.
Oh thanks Markdental, got it ^^

Hmm, not exactly official...
Did Adobe (or Google) ever say it themselves?
OR is there a way for us to determine this ourselves?
Flash has always been based on software, on any platform.
10.1 is supposed to bring relief to computers, phones, laptops and netbooks alike. The beta is still based on software. The end goal of 10.1 is to have it hook into hardware, but that hasn't happened yet.

I think Paul is just looking for some proof that this is the case. Not just more people saying the same thing.
In the release notes (new user, cant link) it says:
H.264 video hardware decoding
Flash Player 10.1 introduces hardware-based H.264 video decoding to deliver smooth, high quality video with minimal overhead across mobile devices and PCs. Using available hardware to decode video offloads tasks from the CPU, improving video playback performance, reducing system resource utilization, and preserving battery life.

but under Known Issues it says
Flash on Android supports software decoding for all the same H.264 profiles as Flash on the desktop, and uses the hardware decoder for videos using H.264 Baseline Profile and Level <= 3.2.

which makes me believe that GPU acceleration is in place, but not for that many videos yet.

You can always just remove the http://www. part to provide a text link.
Anyway, found it: http://labs.adobe.com/wiki/index.php/Flash_Player_10.1_for_Android
As you said "Flash on Android supports software decoding for all the same H.264 profiles as Flash on the desktop, and uses the hardware decoder for videos using H.264 Baseline Profile and Level <= 3.2."
So... Wouldn't that be proof right there that Flash on Android already *DOES* support hardware decoding?
Engadget states that; "according to Adobe, the pre-release beta they have doesn't support hardware acceleration" - unless they are using a different beta, there currently is no hardware acceleration in the version of Flash we are currently using.
http://i.engadget.com/2010/05/20/android-2-2-froyo-beta-hands-on-flash-10-1-wifi-hotspots-an/
There is an official statement from Adobe that the final version will be hardware accelerated using the H.264 codec. This does reqiure websites to update their flash content to support the mobile version... however some sites won't if they already use H.264 for their video encoding in their flash. Games are the big one that will need to be updated and optimized.
I am at work, so can't really search too much for it, I am limited to only a handful of phone websites, with my phone I can find info, but copying over a link is a lot of work.

Nexus S Multi-Codec Video Playback Support just like Galaxy S

The rom is made by Real_G, and I'm going to ask the developer to post the rom on here.
OF COURSE, THIS IS H/W DECODING.

Moboplayer (or anything else) doesn't have audio for most 720p H.264 videos when using hardware encoding.
With software audio works, but video playback is choppy.
I have been anxiously awaiting this, coming from SGS where u could play just about anything without lag. I hope this is made available to those of us who don't use custom roms cause I like to stick to the regular Google releases.
Props to real_g and anyone else who is working on this; greatly appreciated.

Want to buy A500 - Whats about Video Compatibility Problems ?

Hi there,
i m not yet a Iconia A500 owner but i m thinking about buying one. i read a lot of tests and iconia seems the right one for me and i think i would be happy with it for this pricelevel.
How ever, ... i read in different tests that this tab would be better if it would playback standard video formats.
What is the meaning with this ... ??
can´t believe that standard formats should not play. i mean there a tons of developers building their roms and in none of them i read about "added video codec pack" or something like that.
Would be fine to get a feedback with your experience about videoplayback on iconia.
One more question: is it possible to get android 2.1/2.2 Roms running on honeycomb 3.0... what i mean: Is the honeycomb system of iconia downwards compatible to "older" install files .apk ?? (Want to install few things what i ve on my android 2.2 phone)
best greets,.. hope you can help me
Psy
Video playback performance depends on the player app you are using. The best video player for the Iconia is the DicePlayer. You can get it from the Android Market for about 5 US-$. This player plays DivX and h.264 MKVs (up to 720p) flawlessly.
Best regards, maris
Not all old .apk's are compatible with Honeycomb. Some of them don't fill the whole screen. In 3.2 it's possible to make them fit but they look ugly.
The apps that doesn't work on Honeycomb are not in the tablet market. But you can try to load them with your phone and put it on the tablet sd card.
Then install it and see if they work, some of them do.
But you will find the most important apps on the tablet market and they work well.

I'm getting issues like this too. I can play the videos but they always are extremely laggy and are almost impossible to watch. I mean, you can't even watch Netflix in HD anymore either without it freezing. Hopefully an update to fix these video problems come out soon because although I'm aware of rooting, factory resetting, changing GB to US or whatever, I shouldn't have to do that -_-
Same issue here, impossible to watch Netflix and other videos. I hope some stock-based custom rom can fix that, because I do want hdmi support.
There's a temp fix for the Netflix issue. Go to the Netflix site on your PC and under settings bump down the streaming video quality down to BETTER from BEST.

Same problem here. I'm really disgusted with Samsung. Make us wait forever for an update, then have it perform worse than the previous version.
Video is the primary use of my tablet. It's bad enough I had to pay for a decent video player (Dice player). Now that is laggy too.
I hope Samsung comes up with a fix for this (although I'm not holding my breath).

When it comes to the tablet world, I realized it was probably better to get an iPad. Now, believe me when I say this, I am in NO way an Apple fanboy and I despise the iPhone lol. But in all honesty, as great as hardware and specs may be for an Android tablet, it's not worth the loss of customer support and many apps you can get on an iPad. Sure, the iPad is in no way the best tablet out there when it comes to specs, but at least it's reliable. And if it's not reliable, at least you can get some good customer support.
As much as I hate the Apple fanboys and most Apple products, selling my tablet for an iPad doesn't seem too bad since all I wanted anyway was to be able to watch some videos and play some games =\
P.S. I know I can root my device and install CM10 on there, but in all honesty I shouldn't have risk bricking my tablet to have things work.
Have you guys all opened support issues directly with Samsung. If they don't hear about it directly from customers they will not address it.
I don't have any 1080p content to play - otherwise I would try mine to see if it is the same. Does it matter what drowser/video player you are using? Or is it the same for all ?
Same here I cant even barely use Youtube it goes from smooth to locking up to about 3 FPS tops. Unreal fail Samsung did they even test it?
I have this issue, a co-worker has this issue and a relative has this issue after upgrading to ICS.
Mine is the only one that has been rooted or had custom roms flashed.
The other two are completely stock never been touched.
I have tried custom roms based on the official update and all lag/freeze for me.
When I flash back to stock honeycomb the problems go away.
The ICS nightlies were working fine less the camera.
Seems that Samsung bungled this update and now I hope our devs correct this issue... until then the official ICS is pretty useless for me.
What is interesting is that everyone I know with a p7510 is having issues but it seems we are in the minority....
Does this affect p7500 as well as p7510? I looked at build.prop of the Italian (p7500) and the US (p7510) builds, and there's about a month difference in build date... (with US being newest). FWIW.
Oh well, if video playing become worse then I see no reason of loosing Voodoo sound as well with upgrade to ICS.

transfer all my backed-up folders back to the tab?
Robert: You have to back up from the PC to tab.
Visitor: Do I have to restore ALL the folders, or just the ones with my
data in them?
Robert: The one with the data.
Visitor: Thank you.
Visitor: Talk to you later.
Robert: You're welcome. Is there anything else I can assist you with?

OK, well I followed the instructions, and the video seems to be playing better. The bad news is that I didn't back up my stuff properly. -- I just dragged and dropped folders from the tab onto my PC, and then reversed the process after the hard boot. None of my apps survived the move ... I'm in the process of redownloading and reinstalling everything!!! Oh well, live and learn.
Hope this info helps somebody. If so, please hit yer thanks button. Thanks!
I'm back on HC 3.2. O, my God, HD Youtube is great, when it works!
Did that fix your issues? You say it helped? I guess I really dont want to lose everything on my Tab if it doesn't fix the issue. This is pathetic even when you watch youtube in SD it lags like crazy and jumps all over the place. What a joke.
Edit*
I went ahead and Hard Reset my tablet and the video performance is still horrible.
Sorry to read about those having video playback issues.
Having no problems here; You Yube plays fine.
Only exception is streaming videos fro Amazon Prime, and I'm pretty sure that's due to the limitations of my access point, and Apple Airport Express, original model.

To answer your question, yes, my video for the most part plays smoothly now. Except for one 1080p video I own, which previously played flawlessly -- it now has a hiccup in a certain spot. Can't figure out why. But YouTube, Vimeo, etc. play fine. What are you using to play videos? I use Dice Player. The stock Samsung video player sucks.
can anyone gives a specific example, like a like to a video on youtube?
What app is used?
What format is the video?
if it is transfered from a PC, how did you do it? Did you "convert" the video?
Every video on YouTube I watch is doing it. Slows down to a halt them jumps forward pauses goes to like 3 Fps. Seems like stuff with alot of movement. Like if someone is filming the same stuff like themselves in front of a background its not that bad but if someone is like filming out side and theres alot of different info it goes to crap quicker.
can you provide a link, I just tried this one:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R7YGoVyRSik&hd=1
and it plays flawlessly
I've had zero issues personally. One night while using HBO GO, I had a lot of stuttering, so I just restarted the tablet and the problem fixed itself.
