I say is Google's loss on that one, thay had all this time to actually get with the man that changed this OS and made this happen (CM). Now Samsung is going with the expertise from someone that knows this code and will make it more user friendly!

CM is good, but I still prefer plain old Android myself. Good for him though, dude.

That's pretty wicked.

Kudos
Wish i had programming skills but alas i have the attention span of a drain fly. Every time i try to teach myself something i end up either playing video games or some how in a strip club...... I got kind of into php but then just sputtered out.
Congrats

Awesome. Cant wait for those tablets....
Only a small glimpse to be sure, but it definitely looks like phone/tablet android is gonna fork. Everything you can see looks absolutely amazing however, like miles above what we have seen on a tablet so far. Youtube looks sick. The UI actually looks "cool." Like futuristic, badass, sweetness. But its hard to tell from a minute video.
Edit: Looks like the video is now private

Try refreshing. At first, it was a video from youtube but Engadget uploaded theirs.
Between my Evo and my Notebook, I don't really have a need for a tablet...but I really, really want that Honeycomb goodness. Dammit Google, now you've made me drool all over my desk!
It looks nice but I'm sure that oems will screw it up with proprietary skins unless google grows some balls and enforces a standard.

LOL. That motorola tab that was showed a few weeks ago seemed really cool! I want a tablet!!!
so what will be the next build for mobile phone devices? i assume ginger will be the last evo update then? might be time to start to look for a new phone in a few months.
Thats a good question. This looks absolutely fantastic, and absolutely nothing like android does currently. I for one am excited to see where the two forks of android take us. This looks like it has absolutely no place on a cell phone.
I still wouldn't mind a port though. My evo screen is room enough especially With honeycomb running on landscape .

COOL !!!! Hope this works out well for us EPIC owners !
Well hate to be the one that breaks the happiness. This may be a double edge sword...
If he's working with Sammy remember that they are corporate and he is a member of their corporation now, and he must follow by their rules and regulations. This could mean the end of Cyanogen era as well.
Remember these corporations don't care 100% of what we do with their phones because they consider it "out of bounds". Hint: Remember what MS did with the dev group that was hacking their phones?????

Nope, never gonna happen.
Steve hasn't had any input w/ CM on any samsung device so far, and he especially won't now.
SO it finally seem's the big boys are finally getting recognized sloooowly?
From my understanding...without the GB source code...Tony Stark couldn't put this together in that cave regardless right?...this is assuming the official (no disrespect to our developers we luuv y'all!) CM developers all had source code for the officialy supported devices? Correct me if I'm wrong

As someone who has never used Cyanogenmod, I just don't get the hype surrounding this project. I have a general understanding on why development is where it is for the Epic currently, but I definitely don't get the butt-hurt posts/threads on this topic. (Not inferring that this thread is one of those types of threads. )
Aside from the AOSP look/feel of it, what's the real hype over the project?

Agreed. Im sure they want to use his CM7 for a base and they may make him sign something like that. Ive seen this happen in the Apple jailbreak world. Developer gets taken by Apple and all his side developments stopped.
Does this mean cyanogen will become official? God I love that they bought moto, but I sure hope steve is just gonna be used to help build android, and they leave cyanogen alone

What I'm confused about...is he the ONLY person that maintains the CM mainline? If there's a team of people, what's to stop them from making sure this ROM base is updated (i.e. reflects changes made with ICS when CM8 is made, etc.)? I mean, it's open source and non-profit...
I can't imagine the most popular Android ROM all-time could just die, but I ALSO don't foresee this one guy maintaining it at a level appropriate for ~570,000 phones that have it installed since he's now gonna be occupied with greater things for himself.
It sure would be a shame if Samsung sort of grabbed exclusivity over CM...Samsung gets CM, Moto gets AOSP, which to choose!?

For sure, man, i see that so far. Everyone contributes to each other which is awesome. i hope to be like that one day.
One quick question, since this forum's dev portal is split in 2 (GSM / CDMA) Nexus S 's, i've seen that the one for the 4g just isn't too active. Do the ones for the regular non-sprint ones work for the 4g version?

BLN for led notifications.

what is this BLN and ICS you guys speak of? what i've realized about most croms i've flashed is the virtual keys light up, but even then they're not that bright, and the nexus' vibration intensity seems kind of low. but, that part might be the rubber shock resistant case i have on it.
EDIT: lol never mind, did some lurking and apparently that's what i was just talking about. but i didn't know that i needed to dl the app. i was wondering why i couldn't change the setting in android's native settings. thanks a lot guys for your responses!

My impression from skimming that ongoing discussion was- the final consensus was that our phones don't have the hardware to support it. Despite probably some misleading tidbit of information a long time ago.

Ability to live without it or not, they won't release it. Its somewhere in the spectrum of "unwritten rule of XDA" to potentially a law, I'm not sure. Regardless its a good idea. Don't want a buggy ROM to lead to someone dying!
